    1st post here hello.

    Hello and welcome.

    Which vehicles have you been?

Found a kind of yellow colored UAZ Jeep in a totally random spot in the woods, backed up against a tree. It was operable and had an exact half tank of gas, so I think it spawned there like that. Have found 2 or 3 UH-1H wrecks. One was actually on the northwest area of the northwest airstrip. Other two were in areas of open grassland. Unfortunately there were no zombies or loot at them.

    Spawning into Bug Forrest

My understanding is that when you join a server, the server creates your character in the bug forest area, before it gets your gear and location data from the master database, and then you are moved. I don't know if it is possible, but if you somehow got saved in that area, you might have to go to the menu and choose Respawn. You will die and have to start over unfortunately.

Taking literally forever to extract files on DayZ Mod Updater

Did you get Combined Operations on Steam? Or just Operation Arrowhead? The DayZ mod runs on OA but uses files from Arma 2 itself. You can use Combined Operations which is both, or buy Operation Arrowhead and get the Arma 2 free trial. I hear you will have some lower resolution textures if you go that route. Also, launch Steam in Administrator mode.

Taking literally forever to extract files on DayZ Mod Updater

Just to make sure you have the files correctly: Go to http://us.armafiles.info/ Download all the .rar files, you don't need the changelog.txt 1.) Make @dayz folder in #:\#\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead 2.) Make Addons folder within the @dayz folder Your folder stucture should look like arma 2 operation arrowhead > @dayz > Addons 3.) Extract all downloaded files to this Addons folder 4.) In steam, right click on ARMA2: Operation Arrowhead, select 'Launch Options' and type -nosplash -mod=@dayz 5.)Load ARMA2: Operation Arrowhead through steam and choose the Launch ARMA2: Combined Operations option. When the game loads, in the top right of the screen there should be a small line that says "@dayz" meaning the mod was loaded. I took some of this info from http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3481582 There is also information there to use a separate launcher program instead of steam, which is what I use and it works well.

Persistance and server switching with tents/vehicles.

It's my understanding that tents and vehicles are specific to an individual game server. The master server will not transfer them with you if you change servers. As Unkn0wn said, if the server you have a tent or vehicle on crashes or restarts, I think the items are gone. I am not positive though and haven't tried myself. Hopefully as the mod continues to develop it can get worked out so you can setup a camp with a tent or car or helicopter and if you change servers they come with you. When you are offline they would remain on the last server you played on, and then the chance of other players finding and looting them remains.

    Can't get into server

Is this a server you have played on before, or are you just installing Day Z? Do you have the current version, 1.5.7?

    Saving / Spawning issue

A lot of people were having issues logging in last night, and when I finally got into a server I found I had been moved to one of the random spawn points on the coast. Other people on the server said they had been moved also. Normally your location is saved along with your gear by the master server, and regardless of which game server you join you should have the same gear and be in the same spot. One thing good to know is the "Unsaved" state in your debug monitor. When it says True with some seconds listed after it, that is how long since your character was last saved. Before logging out find someplace safe and stand still until it says Unsaved: false. Then your character has been saved there.

Zombies no longer attracted to cans/bottles

I was about to post this same bug. I haven't had the chance to test it much, but I just did a run to one of the barracks on the northwest airfield and saw no effect on nearby zombies when throwing an empty whiskey bottle and a smoke grenade. The server was running patch 1.5.7.

    canteen filling bug

Currently you can fill water from the coast while about knee deep in the water. Everyone seems to assume this is an ocean and salt water, but it works. To fill water bottles in ponds / lakes, you have to be swimming in it. If the water isn't deep enough to swim it will not work. I think I've come across one small lake where I couldn't find a deep spot in it. Some you have to find the right spot. A lot of players don't want to do this because they believe they will lose their pack and primary weapon if they swim. This isn't exactly true. If you swim for too long, or try to swim when your character is fatigued (breathing heavily) you are forced to drop equipment to keep swimming. Rest briefly before you attempt to swim to fill water bottles and you will be fine.

    Possible counter to alt-f4

It's a good idea, however with the current state of the mod servers I do not think it would work out. People would only want to play on their server, and it's already hard enough to get on a specific server when most of them are full, at least during prime times. I am under the impression that you should have your character when playing the game, regardless of server. Some sort of player required action like camping or something through a menu to be saved is an idea. Removing automatic saves does not seem like a good idea due to servers being restarted or crashing. Add a character action that is required to log out immediately which also updates your character save, something like camping but should probably work anywhere. It should take some time, 30 seconds for example. Make it so if you Alt-F4 or disconnect via the normal game menus, your character remains on that server for some time, like 1 minute, and you are unable to log back in unless it is to the same server. If you are killed in this time it should be saved on the master server and you start over. If your character is bleeding you should also not be able to camp, and if you Alt-F4 or disconnect from the menu, your character remains and you bleed to death. I think however you should be able to log out and have your character saved if you have any of the other negative effects, like a broken bone. Just some ideas. Edit: On a somewhat related note, servers that wish to be private should then only be able to save character data locally.

    Should we scrap bandit models?

Leave them in. It provides consequence for killing survivors. It gives motivation to heal someone injured. Is there a maximum value for positive or negative humanity? More player textures could be added for various levels of each.

There shouldn't be any pvp-free trading post region!

I also think there should definitely not be any sort of hard coded safe area in the game. It goes against the theme of the mod entirely. However, I do think there is a lot of potential for content that fits within the theme that would potential promote longevity. I've heard a rumor that there is a radio item in game that someone found, and occasionally it would pick up a broken broadcast with grid coordinates or something. Whether or not this is true I can't say, and if it is I wonder what the intention is. I could imagine it would lead you to loot spawns in the current state of the mod. Now, I don't know anything about the Arma 2 engine and what it is capable of, but I get the impression from watching some game-play footage that there can be a lot of scripted events with NPCs and such. There could be randomly spawned events with NPC survivors trapped somewhere by zombies, with loot available if you can get to it. You could expand on that and have a small group of military NPCs under attack, but I don't know what the developers think. The mod has a certain feel to it with a lot of the world being deserted. Zombies could have loot on them like a map to a stash of supplies. It wouldn't do you any good unless you already had a map, and maybe a compass and GPS. I'm rambling now, but just some ideas off the top of my head.

Spawned items and structures on Chicago 3

This is still happening. I was watching a live stream tonight where two guys were running around together. Both had the 24 slot backpacks, NVGs, and assault rifles. The streamer had the M4 CCO, couldn't see what the other had. Yes its possible they found them, but those items are rare to my understanding. Someone commented on the NVGs and the streamer said he wasn't talking about it on the stream. Later the streamer got sniped, and his friend logged out and said something about going to a specific server and "spawning". Please do something so this great mod doesn't get ruined by a handful of players. Also, please make it so scrolling the mouse wheel to get the action menu up while panning the mouse doesn't show characters in the distance, even if they are behind cover.
