Yes. You can die. Don't eat or drink. Don't close the game. Switch on your display and go for a day somwhere. When you're back, you'll probably see "You're dead". Have a nice day :) -

Sorry if this was already mentionaed elsewhere. The Power of the Item Tag This idea came from a Reddit member Juan_Solo. So thank him and I attribute this suggestion as his idea and write here on his behalf. But I'll expand the idea a bit to make it consistent. You can create a public comment\tag for any item you have. You can write some 20 (subject to change!) characters long text adn it is saved together with the item and is stored permanently as other item's attributes (like weapon condition, ammo, etc.) Item Tag is shown anytime an item weapon name is show in UI. Item tag is shown either like this "Juan_Solo's zombie exterminator (AK-47)" or like this "AK-47 (Juan_Solo's zombie exterminator)" (or any other variant we can come up with in the discussion) The Item Tag can be rewritten by any player having that item. Any item you can pickup can be tagged (weapons, ammo, food, clothes, vehicle parts, tents etc.) This idea can be further expanded to the world objects as well. The concept of the "Global Tag" The Power of the Global Tag You can tag any separate object in the world A house A vehicle A tree A cow A lootpile A corpse! Your own poo if Rocket implements it It's not meant to replace the feature of leaving messages. It's another thing. This feature will contribute to it just by the fact you can tag the message itself :) This is immensely fun and extends roleplay aspects as well as extending Rocket's idea of "writing your own DayZ story". We are writing this story on our items and objects. If you like it - vote it up on reddit! Examples: Crowbar (Rocket's lawbringer) Hatchet (Holy Axe of FireFighter) M24 ammo (Five reasons to die) Hand grenade (New explosive taste) Can of beans (Don't eat. Give it to someone else or you get infected.) Coke (My last drink. I don't wanna die!) Meat (This is human flesh! Mwahahaha) Cooked meat (I added rosmarinus and natrium glutamate. Bon appetite!) Rotot part (WALL-E) Corpse (This dude died honestly. I looted good. RIP) Animal corpse (Fluffy was a good hog. I miss you fluffy.) Bicycle (It's a chopper, baby.) Dead zombie (Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.) House in Cherno (Abandon hope, all ye who enter here) Hospital (Dr.Wasteland receives patients on Saturdays 8-11 AM.) Huge round watertower (Gieant Chupa-chups! Lollypops!) Sturgeon, Zeppa, Solitude, youre completely right. Nothing to say. I won't close this thread just for lulz. But the concept is of course a failure. P.s. But Rocket's idea with leaving note in the world would end up the same I guess... but nonetheless, tags will boost it darmatically. I agree. -

My idea may be inconsistent and even failing, but the problem I described is consistent. There must be a way to get night back in game. Preventing server restarts to reset time is the best decision so far, partial but good. Those of you who have hackers as the argument, please, don't make me laugh, seriously. If you belive hackers will be that powerful as to dupe and create items... Well, let this suggestions forum deleted and closed forever! Why even bother thinking, inventing, being creative and suggesting anything at all if hacker will spoil everything!? Tell it to Rocket, suggest cancelling DayZ project because hacker will ruin it. Gosh... are you really serious? Again, this feature is more of an outlining of a problem of neglecting night as a huge survival part in DayZ. I came to think about it with you, together. -
Hey! Discovered a new brand for my teatime while in DayZ. Recently got Twinings "Lady Gray" and "Breakfast". Awesome tea! Lady Gray is bergamot with citrus pieces, and Breakfast is just very cool. Very much recommended!

While it is a most commonly suggested mechanics, this is solving neither Problem1 nor Problem2 described in the original post. And not being able to identify a person when you see his face is not very atuthentic\realistic either. It is the group\buddy feature which will be introduced as Rocket stated (may in some other way than wheelscroll "Ask name"), while I'm talking exactly about the strangers, the random encounters, and your personality suffering\enjoying the fame\infamy of your deeds. -

Exactly ;) Somebody will be running carelessly (mainly newbs who never experienced seasons). By the way, for each season there can be a very subtle but noticable visual clue made. For cold season it is obvious. For heat season we can have a slight yellowish tint in the atmosphere, that dusty hot vague impression... For Epizootic season we can have dead animals in the wood and a bit more gloomy forest surroundings. For hunger it may be a feeling of emptyness, may be a bit greyish colour and wind with dust. Not very obvious ones, but known to experienced people And this visual, atmospheric change is happening the day before the season start. So those who knows what's coming after this SIGN can get ready a bit and survive better. -

Zeppa, I thought, once you log in you have a new timestamp. So, one server - one time for all players on it. The time just gets updated I guess. But, yes, this is all not so simple. But the problem persists. Night is awesome in DayZ, we need it back. Something must be done... I hope somebody has a better idea. -

Yeah, time and periods I've chosen just randomly. They can and must be tweaked to balance everything out. The most important is the dynamics of the survival and unpredicted difficulties. P.s. Another name for "Fire" season, is "Ibiza" season, beecause I can guarantee everyone will be running around in just their single pants on to save water and not to have heatstroke :) -

NEW: "Fire" season Extreme hot temperatures Thirst appears much faster. Canned\Bottled drinks get rare. (not in zombie loot, never in industrial buildings) Walking in the bright sun without a headwear can get you sunstroke. Wearing very warm clothes can make you even more fatigue and have a sunstroke. Running causes more fatigue. Autmatic weapons get overheated more and jam more frequently. Foraging is not very effective, plants are dried. Transport gets overheated and can have engine damage if driven at more than 40-60kmh speed. Players stay mainly in shadow, in the forests, water sources become vital for survival. UPDATED: "Cold" season ... +Vehicles are consuming more fuel and take much more time to start the engine. +Air transport is having icing problems and is not recommended to fly. -

God, how I hate this IPB forum engine right now :facepalm: ... I just added a YouTube link in my OP and the whole POLL results got erased. The voted members number saved and their votes are saved, but votes are not displayed. I already had this many times in other posts. So frustrating. I restored the result as I remembered them... may be I memorized some old ones :( I like this forum engine, but polls kill me everytime I create them... -

1) Thank you! 2) I fully, totally agree with each of your sentences. Exactly my thoughts. I can't really persuade everyone it is going to be safe, because I cannot test it in DayZ or take part in the development. I just explain all this consistently, show to the dev team (hoping they will come here one day) and it is up to Rocket's team how they can make it safer, implement it or part of it or never implement this. They may even find a better solution or a safer idea... We just may hope we're heard and the issue is considered. For me, this infinite anonymity is a most crucial issue. This thing may eventually kill the game, because distorting social instincts is not a pleasant psychological feeling... It may destroy everything. Yes, I may be too dramatic about it... but you can't be too cautious when such phenomenal and unique projects as DayZ are at stake! -

I've made a video, showing one of the variants the nickname display may work. This video shows that no scanning is possible with 1s fade in delay. You must stop your looks at a player to see his name. This 1 second "safe-zone" can be tweaked even to 0.5s and it will still be effectively preventing cursor scanning. You see that prone players have the full nickname visible only at 5 metres. P.s. Sorry for the crappy quality :( Had some encoding issues -

1) I made some little additions and fixes. Additions are tiny, mostly formatting fixes and mistakes corrections... Also wrote a small warning for those who thinks I'm suggesting every bullet hole or a foot step mus leave a mark and stay forever in database and spam server with gazillions of objects to kill the server. Why people think I;m so stupid to not understand it. Please, read more attentively. I propose to leave marks and trails after actions, but HOW will they look, this is the subject to discuss. It can be a 2px texture on a single polygon decal which is scaled x20 times larger and look like a pile of garbage... Technical and design decisions are numerous! Look at World of Warcraft! This game geometry is primitive and almost terrible, BUT LOOK WHAT GENIOUS TEXTURES, DECALS AND LIGHTING THEY USE! They found it out and use widely to immenseley improve the performance. And now since the engine is in the hands of dev, they can make any graphic additions. Visual effects can be either in detail of geomety or in detail of a texture and proper lighting... Think about it before saying I'm retarded and think Rocket is a wizard... 2) But one addition to the OP I would like to highlight. The hands state. Please, don't tell me I must go and play SIMS. Save you breath and tell this directly to Rocket. It is his idea, but I just expanded and thought about different implementations and side effects. Wet bloody hands effect Your hands leave blood on everything you touch or everyone you carry. Hands look very red with blood, brigt high saturation bloody colour. If blood is not yours and is infected, if you get wounded or eat food - you have the same infection. Items get bloody finger marked Weapons get blood stains too This effect lasts for 10-15 minutes until blood dries out. After this your hands get the next Dry bloody hands effect. This effect is instantly removed if you wash your hands with any liquid (soda, water etc.) Dry bloody hands effect Your hands just look dark red dirty. If blood is not yours and is infected, if you get wounded or eat food - you have the same infection. This effect lasts for 1-2 hours After 1-2 hours your hands get simply very dirty without blood effect. This effect is instantly removed if you wash your hands with any liquid (soda, water etc.) Dirty hands effect If you eat with your dirty hands, you have a good chance of getting a disease. This effect is instantly removed if you wash your hands with any liquid (soda, water etc.)
