Mine just gives me a hard time when someone shoots me and I call the monitor all sorts of horrible names.

I can undertstand that, though vanilla ARMA or another mod would provide this for you. Perhaps its the community (a more casual bunch than the ARMA purists maybe) that has lot to do with its appeal and accessibility. My days of feeling any infected induced atmosphere have long gone. They just tend to bugger up my plans for the dayz more than anything. Its most definitely the human interaction that keeps me edgy. .

On that note a Winchester slug drops a player and zombie well enough at closer ranges and is hell of lot more shhhh

36 year old coastal hermit here Would be interested in teaming up if there are any other 'old farts with guns' (a Rogue Spear clan from ions ago) on Aus/ NZ servers. I'm not familiar with areas in the northern half of the map so less experienced in those areas and no huge stash or vehicles to share.. sorry :P Generally a medic, friendly, but kill if being killed at.

Eat them. You will gain a small amount of energy allowing you to communicate more on the forums.

Who would yell unless they want the attention of everybody, makes no sense. If you could alter the volume of your voice to whatever range you wanted, from a whisper to a yell that would be ok, but you could whisper in your mike and it would sound the same to someone right next to you and someone 20 feet away. Even direct chat text is has the same 'audibility' from 0m to its max range. As far as trying to ascertain if someone is friendly or not, your better off being in the superior firing position and having them follow your rules if they wish to come any closer. Seeing as most encounters especially in town is just running into someone as you round a corner or enter a building its really just a lottery. Being friendly is more that you do not intend to fire first in these situations which is obviously a risky way to play but firing first, saying friendly second is more so as you've probably already scared or angered the other player and they're likely to retaliate in an unfriendly manner.

Nameplates may give you some idea if you see your assailant. Only enabled on some servers though.

Quiet to set up without too much stress, when I'm sorted to go into town and play mr doctor / bandit hunter I join a higher population server. More chance to help, more chances to die trying etc

Seems now that tents are the way to block entrances as there are so many of them being duped and thus surplus to normal requirement. They're worse than wire as only the owner can lift them or you have to a ) find a grenade and b ) let everybody know where you are blowing the feckers up.

I'm not 'hard core' just a friendly loner. Initial aim is to find at least a hatchet, hopefully a toolbox and a Winchester, then head to Cherno or Elektro. Get medical supplies, find matches, hunting knife, go hunting, cook, go back to town and scavenge for whatever I don't have. Help/heal anyone that needs it and doesn't try to kill me. Remove any annoying barbwire or tanktraps. If I witness a murder I (try to) punish the culprit. Every now and then I'll head inland for a look see and explore part of the map I've not been to yet but that gets yawn after awhile. Sometimes I survive for days, sometimes minutes..tis just the way it goes

Really can't see a solution without making it harder for new players to get used to the game or making it unfair on those who die through no real fault of their own. The forums would soon be filled with "This game is too hard-unfair, I want my money back". There is another thread around that hit the nail on the head with a hatchet.. you can't really place value on a virtual life unless you the player place value on it yourself via role play/ imagination, anyone else will still just see pixels on a screen and not really give a damn.

Personally If i found myself not able to play for an hour I'd swear and curse at whom ever and simply not have time and/or the inclination to bother playing again.

The way they stand in fields with vacant looks on their faces at present I think there's something odd about Chernarus grass too.
