No, read the bottom paragraph. It's not that these topics don't warrant discussion - there is a lot to be said about restructuring the inventory, zombie AI, and PvP dynamics. However, there are already thousands of topics on this forum covering those ideas. This isn't a "Do No Suggest" list as much as a "Don't Make Another Topic About This" list. Just because it's a major problem on the internet doesn't mean we should sit back and do nothing. That's like looking at all the bugs and eternally saying "IT'S ALPHA GAWD" and never fixing anything. This list is supposed to (if stickied) have a rule set that can be pointed to and referenced in topics that break the rules - start handing out warnings for threads that break the DNSL. As I mentioned, it's too easy to say "Well I didn't know there was another topic" or "The old topic was buried" when challenged over a dupe thread. You can thank Rocket for that quote, I guess I messed up the BBC for quote references (fix'd).

PSA: Do not wear alternative clothing in 1.7.2.0!
thorgold replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Now, is it possible to drop your entire inventory (minus the ghillie), put on the suit, then pick everything back up? -
Visibility is rendered server-side. Your own visibility setting will not influence what you see while using DayZ unless you set it to very, very low distances (<800, usually). Most servers have visibility capped at 700 or so meters, though some higher end ones push it to 900.

Which is why we need a sticky.

I had a very long-winded, rage-induced post that deconstructed every paragraph of this god-awful topic. Then, I realized that this video fit perfectly: (Transcript) What you just said... is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent, response... were you close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.

No. This is not BF3. Shock paddles cannot revive a person from hydrostatic shock.

Please make a "Do Not Suggest / Make Topic List". The "Use the Search Bar" rule is too easy to brush off with excuses (I didn't find anything! I can't figure out how to use it!).
-
Added Alt-F4, restructured the list.

For FUCK'S sake, use the search bar. 1) Safe havens have been suggested a thousand times and shot down a thousand times. There will be no "safe" place, ever. 2) AI survivors/soldiers/not zombies have been suggested and shot down by Rocket himself - the ArmA engine is already being pushed to the limit with 50 players and 500 zeds, putting in complex NPCs like survivors and soldiers would be technically impossible to do. If you want a safe zone to trade in, make it yourself. Get some friends and barricade Devil's Castle and invite people to trade. Set up shop in the Cherno factory complex and invite spawners in for beans. Don't ask the devs to hold your hand and implement game mechanics that are possible if difficult to pull of with stuff we already have. And, in regards to your other ideas: DON'T POST THEM. USE THE SEARCH BAR. They have been suggested a thousand times. Player infection? 3 just today. Rigor mortis? Actually new, but I doubt it's worth the space. Zombie pop. balancing? 2 today, several yesterday, countless before that.

Precisely. Search bar would kill most of the repeats, but there needs to be an overarching list that you can point to whenever someone doesn't follow the rules.

Here are the values I've found for visual aggro distance: Prone (flat area with no grass): 20 meters Prone (grassy area): 12 meters Prone (near building): 1.5-12 meters (1.5 is current observed minimum) Crouch (flat, no grass): 79 meters Crouch (bushes and light cover): 40 meters Crouch (building) 9-20 meters Stand (anywhere open): 110 meters Stand (near cover): 20-110 meters Walking will increase visibility by 20% Running will increase visibility by 50% Sprinting is 169 meters The building visibility reduction is very iffy. You can move forward 3 inches and go from 1.5 to 20 visibility. Windows in buildings pretty much will set you to maximum visibility for your current stance - so you'll go from 12 meters crouching to 79 meters when you pass that window in the garage.

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
thorgold replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES If for any reason, it prevents KoS on the coast. I'd shoot a spawner with a weapon on sight, but I'd help spawners that are unarmed. -
People use vehicles as mobile, death-permanent tents. Should they be removed? No. Barbed wire has its place, even if it is spammed a lot. Take, for instance, Freeside Traders - they've practically made Devil's Castle into a fortress during their trade meets by liberal use of barbed wire, tank traps, and sandbags. Want to get in? Use the guarded front gate or get shot while trying to remove a wall of wire 5 pieces thick. Even better, I once came across a server where a big group (9 people had their clan tag) had barricaded NWA. Yes, all of it - plugged up the fences with wire, and I could hear an ATV on the inside patrolling around. Great use of wire to completely set up shop in an otherwise deadly, high traffic area.

So, I was just mugged (see three posts back). I'm bummed and chilling in SE central Cherno, unwilling to risk Starry in a full 40 server. So, in search of the elusive M24, I head through Pogorevka towards the two deer stands to the east. Lo and behold, as I walk into the town, I see an odd shape in the middle of the road. Straight edges, a tint of red, not mangled enough to be a car wreck... My excitement grows with each step. As I burst through the last bushes obstructing my vision, my hopes are a reality - it's a fully repaired UAZ sitting in the middle of the road. I drop to my stomach and search for the owners. The UAZ was fully functional, stranded only by an empty gas tank. After 15 minutes of waiting, I decided to check out the town's industrial and farm buildings for a jerry can. I crawled through the town, using my trusty revolver and smoke grenades to keep aggro low, before I made it to the tool shed. Inside, I found a body - likely that of the UAZ owner - with nothing but a makarov and a bandage to his name. Inside the shed I found a treasure trove - two smoke grenades and a helicopter rotor assembly. No fuel. So, my epic 6km journey began. First, I went north, to Rogovo, seeing as two good farm and industrial buildings stood there. Once again, I was taunted with helicopter rotors and fuel assembly parts, but absolutely no gasoline! I headed 2km west to the farm at Sosnovy Pass, then north to Pustoshka. Strapping on an ALICE pack I found in the supermarket, I searched the warehouse frantically, praying that no one else had recovered the UAZ yet. Inside the warehouse, behind a cargo container, I found my prize. Two jerry cans and a spare wheel went into my pack as I made the treacherous journey through the Starry-NWA danger zone. As I left the warehouse, I jumped in fright as bullets pinged off the metal door next to my head. A survivor with an Enfield was firing in my direction, hapless of the zombies he was drawing in the process. Rather than take out the aggressor, I dashed around the wall of the warehouse compound and into the city, watching as zombies streaked by me, passing me up for the more attractive noise of the Lee Enfield ringing a dinner bell. Soon, the whizzing bullets stopped passing me and the shots faded into the distance. I returned to Pogorevka, victorious. I fueled up the UAZ, revved the engine, and mowed down the first zombie to cross the street without using a designated pedestrian walkway. I headed NE, checking my map for a usable fuel station, and I eventually came to stop at a farmhouse near Starry. As I transferred fuel into my UAZ, I again came under fire, this time from an M1911 at a distance of 250m. My attacker was trying to disable my tires instead of engaging me directly, presumably to stall while his backup arrived (speculation on my part, it's the only reason he would've logically not tried to sneak/assassinate me off the bat). I jumped in the car, cursing as my pristine hull was pierced by .45 rounds, and zoomed into the distance. Of course, I couldn't just have my cake. I had to flaunt it. So I buzzed Starry Sobor in a UAZ before riding off into the sunset.

WTF, Atlanta 18?
thorgold replied to noodlemaker622@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Guess what bro? Come 1.7.2 I lost a tractor, three tents, an M24, and a L85 AWS to the character wipe bug. I respawned and started over. Cry some more. -
I just got... Mugged? So I'm south of stary, raiding some deer stands. I have an m24 and really don't feel like stealthing past the new zeds, so I drop them from 250m. As I move in, I'm surprised to see another set of zeds spawn in, and I hastily drop them with my pistol. As I move in to loot the bodies, a voice comes in over direct. "Alright, put your weapon on the ground. Don't move." I comply as I see a bandit toting an M4A1 CCO run in from my side. Only then did I realize that the extra zombies should've tipped me off to someone else spawning zeds in. I drop my weapons and salute to show compliance. Apparently, the M24 is his favorite gun, and he asks if I've ever used a .50 cal. I reply no, as I've only been shot by M104s, but never used one. So he drops an M104 with four clips, takes my M24, and tells me to wait 5 minutes before picking anything up as he leaves. So... I wait five minutes, pick everything up, and go in the opposite direction. Sure, the way he went was across an open field on a downslope, but I think it was an honorable stickup. Good "trade," whoever that was on US 195! Gotta love chivalrous banditry that goes beyond KoS.

Can't tell if trolling or just stupid.

Change Deer Stands from Military to Farm Loot
thorgold replied to walrus2517's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah, deer stands are less hunting blinds than military lookouts. For example, the stands in berezino - out in the middle of the open, surrounded by barbed wire, in the midst of a city. Hunting? No. Or the ones at the Balota medic camp. -

Man on the Hill - 30 Kills, 6 Minutes, NWAF.

Nice shooting. The kill on the UAZ driver was nice, I'm surprised you didn't mark it as your most difficult. -
how to make day z better, 90% will agree
thorgold replied to Hoboleader's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I am the 10%. I enjoy having to deal with zombies that aren't blind as bats. No more walking 10 feet out of town and sprinting away like it's the state line in a municipal police chase. Sneaking is entirely doable, it's just much harder and more realistic than the "stand and they'll see you, crawl and they won't" stealth mechanic of <1.7.2. You shouldn't be able to just crawl your way into any position except a zombie's feet, the zombies should be able to see you if you can see them. They're mindless killing machines, not proximity mines, and they behave like it now - if you're within visual range, they'll attack you. I've done my share of sneaking in 1.7.2 already. Either you go Sam Fisher on zombies and time your movements to stay inside of 1.5m visual areas (beside fences, corridors, etc) or you engage the zombies from outside of auditory range (125m+, 1000m+ with an Enfield). Zombies are hazards, not just annoyances anymore. -
ROLL BACK, ROLL BACK, ROLL BACK..!!!
thorgold replied to Reash's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
*Ahem* -
The server rules are called "Rules" for a reason. If a server isn't following the set rules regarding side chat / difficult / naming conventions, report it. The current infrastructure isn't capable of enforcing specific server settings while preserving the "dedicated public server" system currently in place.
-
If you want to do it, then do it. Rocket has specifically stated that he wants to avoid hard-coded rules that dictate gameplay (specifically regarding punishment for PvP, but the point stands), so if you want a trading post, build one. Get a group of guys, throw barbed wire around Devil's Castle, and let people know there's trading to be had. Fix up a bus and give people rides, but just be ready to defend yourself. If you want something to happen in the game, you do it. Bingo. That Devil's Castle thing I mentioned? They did it for a weekend, and it was a smashing success. The only thing that stopped it was a hacker raid, but what're you gonna do about that.

Debug Monitor disappearing randomly while playing
thorgold replied to XAM's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I have also encountered this bug, and noticed that the zombie detection bars read at 0 no matter what you do. Might want to add it to the list. Also of note is the fact that the bug disappears once you disconnect and reconnect to any server.
