being able to create a group , and then progressing within in that group
thorgold replied to MartinCB's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If you want ranks and group professions, join a group and designate everyone to a job. I'm my team's overwatch sniper, so if we find ghillie suits or DMRs they go into my stash. Our lead looter gets all our silenced weapons. So on and so forth. Also, seeing your group's HUD (medical status and so forth) doesn't fit with the authenticity of the ArmA engine or DayZ itself. If you want to know how your friend is doing after taking a 9mm to the stomach, ask him or look at his character for, I dunno, spouts of blood coming out of him. Don't ask for hard-coded mechanics when you can do the same stuff with a little effort with what's already in the game. -
Defibrillators are used to revive people from cardiac arrest caused by heart attack, electrical shock, or blunt trauma interrupting a normal heartbeat. Gunshot wounds do not cause death by cardiac arrest. They cause hydrostatic shock, which literally explodes the brain with overpressure waves from the force of the bullet propagating through your bloodstream. The reason the heart stops is because your brain stops. The other way your heart is stopped by a bullet is hypovolemia, which is quite literally running out of blood to pump. The only case in which a defibrillator could save you from a bullet would is if you went into hypovolemic shock and your heart stopped. The defibrillator would restart your heart, but you'd still be on the cusp of death and dangerously low on bodily fluids. But once you're dead, you're dead. A defibrillator will not bring someone back from brain death. This isn't BF3 or L4D.

Will do. Getting started on linking relevant topics.

For those of you that value your eyeballs, here's a transcript of the ideas. For fun, and justification of why I hate his guts. 1) Remove vehicles 2) Nerf bandits 3) Select your spawn location 4) Safe zone NW of NWA 5) Missions / Build camps and barricades 6) Host our own servers (???) INTERLUDE: F*ck bandits, go back to CoD a) Fix all the bugs, don't use ArmA engine B) Add cooking timer, food poisoning, fishing c) Dig caves/trenches/holes to trap people (sort of contradicts the whole "fuck bandits" theme) d) Add global chat back e) Build shelters / traps f) Crafting / Fire arrows g) Horses h) Climb trees i) Start with pistol j) Radios are useless, everyone uses Skype anyway (so... global chat is still out?) k) Offline servers, cheats/hackers allowed INTERLUDE: I have so many ideas lol NEW THEME: Hardcore servers! a) No HUD B) Get colder quicker in rain c) More zombies - in woods and cities CONCLUSION Lol DayZ owns BF3 People don't post ideas because they're scared of criticism PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE ENDING YAAAY (Second Post) Correct, I do not respect your opinion. Mainly because I think you made this topic while high on some strong dope. Also because you look like an albino Scumbag Steve.

Alternate title topic: "Punishment for PvP" Read the FUCKING sticky ("If it has anything to do with PvP..." part) Use the search bar. Read any one of the "Bandit Solution" threads on the front page right now. Use your goddamn head. Rocket has specifically stated that he will not penalize bandits, ever. Bandit skins were removed for this reason. There is no "wrong" way to play the game and mindless PvP is perfectly within rights to do. Penalizing players who enjoy banditry is unfair and against the core idea of the game. Think of it this way. As a zombie survival sim, we should be running, not hunting, zombies. So for every zombie you kill, you start getting guilt over murdering what were once people. At 50 kills, you start shaking. At 100 kills, you get sick permanently (6000 blood and noises). At 250 kills, you can't reload your weapon anymore and pass out when you see a zombie or player. Now why does that seem like a bad idea? Because you consider killing zombies to be a core aspect of the game, any mechanic that penalizes killing zombies is a bad idea. So why is killing survivors any different?

1) Game engine thing. Could be doable, but the application is so limited it's pretty moot. I mean, listen for footsteps, they're louder than even the worst door you could make. 2) Three steps: Create squad .xml and add your friends to it Use a server with tags enabled Profit I'm serious. There are already squad markings and recognition methods, you just need to use the mechanic put in place for it by the ArmA engine. 3) No. Dropping stuff on the ground is simple and straightforward. You can even put stuff directly in another person's backpack, if you're short on time. Anything like a dedicated trade mechanic would be superfluous and unnecessary. 4) You have a surrender emote, it's just not bound by default. Use it or salute. 5) No. Anything like this would be adding an unnecessary complexity to the inventory system. Putting your primary in your backpack to pull out an ax is perfectly reasonable. At most, you could switch it to sidearm, but there are already topics on that. 6) Already covered to hell and back. See Rocket's interview with Gamebreaker TV - he says that fixing Alt-F4 is technically easy, but the rule making is hard. Implementing a spawn timer or a "You've logged out too much, banned" mechanic could be done in 5 minutes, but he's holding off on a fix because it requires a lot of tweaking. How do we balance it so people who legitimately need to switch servers / DC often don't get banned? How severe to we make punishments? How do we prevent mistakes? 7) Satchel charges. Uber-rare spawn for barracks. Not on the wiki because it's pretty useless. 8) Already suggested. Care to elaborate?

Should servers be able to choose the time of day?
thorgold replied to soapmak3r's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You're missing the point. A server's day/night cycle is based on the time it sets for itself, not the actual location. Yes, most servers use local time, but you can see in the tags if they have modified times (such as US###[1.7.2.3][GMT+7][Veteran]). There are reverse time servers in Europe, just look. Try filtering for "GMT" in the game browser. Alternatively, Dayz Commander can track the time on most servers and only display servers that are currently in certain time periods. So basically, this suggestion is moot and born of lack of knowledge of how the servers work (and that's not meant insultingly, mind you). Servers do have the option to set what time they run - it's just that servers aren't allowed to change that time in order to stay "permaday," as it messes with the Hive's authentication systems (Rocket commented on it to that effect). -
I think this sums up everyone's reaction quite well.

Dude, use /sarcasm tags when you say shit like that. ...you were being sarcastic, right?

The respawn after death thing is actually unconfirmed. As long as they're used regularly and saved, they seem to stay in game indefinitely.
-
Note to any bandits: you're perfectly fine if you want to attack. However, Ghosters will NOT be tolerated, and we've already banned two assholes who tried their hand at killing our snipers. Have a little pride. If you're gonna raid a peaceful operation, save a little dignity and play by the rules.

Again, today sees the addition of yet more: 1) Safe zone suggestions 2) Zombie changes 3) Inventory changes 4) Respawn button warning Lovely, lovely dupes.

Search bar. Upper right hand corner. Use it.

1) The chopper was probably a hacker, or this is a very out-of-date server. Sure, it's not a HIND or anything, but choppers were removed. 2) I don't think GI Jane and her partner were the chopper crew. That explosion leveled a city block after hitting the side of a building; there's no way the crew got out able to fight, if at all. It's more likely they were just a pair of survivors that got to the crash site first and shot your group on sight.

Add Random supply paradrops from c130 airplanes with weapons, supplies or so
thorgold replied to ukulele (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You know the crashed choppers we find? What do you THINK they were doing? Also, search bar. Suggested three times this week alone. -
The second to last one could do without the "Survive." It's a tad cluttered with it and the picture speaks for itself. The last one is great, though for some reason it reminds me of "Nightmare House 2" (the HL2 mod/game).

Respawn Helicopter crash loot?
thorgold replied to clintmbaptiste@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No. There are 6 (4? I don't get them... ever) loot spawns on every crash site. They only spawn once per crash site. You can empty the loot spots on the chopper and nothing will respawn until the server resets and the crash site relocates. Also, Quagmire, stop being an ass. -
Considering that there currently AREN'T helicopters in the game, this suggestion is moot. If you're sick of helicopter clans stealing your vehicle camps: 1) Get away from hacked servers 2) Get away from out-of-date servers
-
Nope. Works for all convertible ammo types, notably DMR-M24. Can confirm for all bullet conversion. ACP-M1911, DMR-M24, and 8rnd-2rnd can all be refilled by conversion cycling.

WTF?? HOW THE HELL DAYZ Z GET SELL NO.1 IN STEAM AFTER WEEKS?
thorgold replied to cyberzone10's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Guys, he's using Max Payne and Racoon City as examples of "good" games that ArmA is beating out on Steam. Obvious troll is goddamn obvious. Racoon City sucked. -
That was some party, man.

Respawn Helicopter crash loot?
thorgold replied to clintmbaptiste@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nope. Once per server reset. -
Cool story bro.

Read the OP... or heck, just the title of the thread. I'm the victim, not the recorder (Acebane17). And please, I have a little honor. He got me fair and square, spared my life, and left me a (sort of) superior weapon. Hell, I should've saluted as he ran off. As for the surrender key, I actually bound it specifically after I saw this guy's earlier Bandit Acts (1-6). Given that this bandit calls for surrender, I thought it'd come in handy if I ran into someone who didn't KoS. Guess it did!
