The first step to recovery is admitting that you have a problem. Ignorance and blatant idiocy can be beaten, you just have to want to change! Loving how you ignore my arguments with a simple "Lol, guy doesn't agree with me, troll" handwave. What, afraid of being wrong?

Ah, I love misguided noobs who act condescendingly superior. It must be nice to be so wildly out of touch with reality. Yes, you're right. There are certain situations in the game in which cannibalism would potentially be justified. Rocket even says there are still large numbers of people who die to starvation or thirst, so there must be some shortage of food. However, that's besides the point - a cannibalism mechanic would be arbitrary in implementation and very limited in application. If a survivor is capable of killing another survivor, that person is at the point in the game where food is not an issue. You have a gun? You can walk into a town and loot for food. Given DayZ's current loot tables, you'd practically have to pass up food on purpose in order to make use of a cannibalism mechanic. To add it would bring arbitrary controversy, akin to how GTA throws in everything offensive it can think of just for the hell of it.

Stop debating the nature of the zombies/infected. It's a petty nuance that you're hiding behind in order to support a position that was crushed in the first post - cannibalism would get this game banned in several countries. Enough with the "OOHHH, ZOMBIES ARE HUMANS SO ITS AWRIGHT," you sound like some whiny brat who says "You said I couldn't go to the movie with my friends... so I'll go to the movie alone and just happen to meet them there! HAH!" The point is, humans consuming humans in a mechanic that could be defined by anyone as "cannibalism" would get DayZ banned as a standalone in Australia and other videogame-restrictive countries. Zombies get a free pass due to their acceptance in popular culture, so don't try to hitch cannibalism onto that premise. Furthremore, you refuse to acknowledge my basic argument: Rocket, the game dev, has said he won't do this. And, related to your "I searched and found nothing," that quote is from the "A case for cannibalism!" topic that's a month old.

How about read before you post. You know, the part where I pointed out that rocket doesn't want the game banned in Australia, so cannibalism would never be added to the game because would alienate Australian and New Zealand players. Then, this guy tried to justify cannibalism as "acceptable" by saying "zombies eat players". Therefore, I explain that zombies eating eating players isn't offensive because zombies are considered animals / enemies and it's acceptable within the genre. Don't tell me that I'm off-topic just because you're too stupid to read the context or understand the topic at hand!

The "this isn't a suggestion thread" thing wasn't aimed at you, but the guy essentially using this thread to advertise his own thread/idea. Which is... goddamn annoying, since the idea itself means he didn't read the sticky - search bar. Also, ditto. Half the suggestions are "Fix the bugs," which is not only annoyingly spam-ish, but goddamn insulting. "Hey Rocket, here's a suggestion you might not of thought of - fix the bugs that noobs like me post about every 30 seconds!"
-
Not considered objectionable. Having an animal eat a human isn't offensive, having a human eat a human is. STILL doesn't cover the fact that you're a lazy, pathetic liar. That just pisses me off - why lie about using the search bar? It's like murdering a cop to cover up a murder!
-
Bullshit. One search for keyword "cannibal" or "cannibalism" comes up with five topics that have cannibalism explicitly in the title. What search did you use, "Suggestion allow eating guts?" Don't lie, moron, especially when your claim can be debunked with one click. Cannibalism can't happen because it would cause any standalone DayZ game to be banned in Australia and New Zealand, and Rocket doesn't want to alienate an entire region over a trivial feature. His words.

A couple of suggestions
thorgold replied to legendaryfish12@yahoo.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1) Doghouses already spawn loot. Check the tables. 2) Suggested to hell and back 3) Support 4) Eh, don't really support. 5) Eh, don't really support 6) It's plenty easy to find. It comes in packs of 10 in hospitals and regularly spawns on military spawns. -
Possibly the greatest reason I wouldn't want DayZ to go CryEngine would be that it would make my computer cry. But dammit if CE3 isn't beautiful.
-
Are you sure you're not talking about Minecraft? I'm not familiar with CE mechanics, but it just strikes me as odd that both MC and CE would have the same world generation limits.
-
I must admit, I was badly mistaken. I don't have much experience with the CryEngine mod community, so pardon my ignorance of the ridiculous level of development it's showing. However, my point still stands. All the work Rocket has done so far has been relatively basic modification of the ArmA 2 engine, and even that's been restricted to glorified mission modification (his words, not mine). 40% of the game (or whatever, I can't find the quote) is stuff he can't work with due to its being in the ArmA source code. The most from-scratch feature is the loot spawning system, and the mechanics on that are so complex and kludged that even he's wary about tinkering about it and risking destabilizing a stable build (see GameBreaker interview re: loot cycling). While I was mistaken about the level to which CE3 can be modded, to rebuild DayZ from scratch would require an enormous effort that I think is basically beyond the scope of what Rocket wants to do. It only reinforces my argument that we'll see mods that borrow the soul of DayZ and express it in their own form. Something like "CryZ" or some somewhat-referential-but-still-independent mod will come along, but a full exodus of DayZ to a completely new engine just seems out of the picture. Again, it'd be AWESOME, but just out of scale.

Players camping towns for new players
thorgold replied to John Johnson's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No, he's not "clearly biased." Your idea is bad. If you're being shot within 5 minutes of spawning, you're doing something wrong. To be seen within 5 minutes of spawning, you practically have to run headlong down the main highway into the nearest high-bandit area, throwing smoke grenades and flares while waving a sign saying "Shoot me, you bandit pansies!" No immunity. Deal with the snipers, deal with the PvP, survive. -
1) Female zombies don't exist because there's a lack of animations for female models in ArmA 2. It's the reason why female survivors can't even wear ghillie. Making female zombies would require entirely new models and animations to be made specifically for them - which is unnecessary as it's an aesthetic issue. 2) Zombies already DO drop what they'd likely be carrying. Civilians drop food, watches, and tin cans. Soldiers drop ammo, military flashlights, and radios. Do a little research. 3) Zombie speed / numbers has already been suggested. Increases in zombie numbers is technically impossible due to the limits of what a server can generate at any given time, you'll notice that high-zombie-count servers have noticeably more lag and desync than low-zombie servers. Go to any other topic if you want arguments on speed/health 4) Post-it notes are already in-game, in the form of map markings. "M" -> Double Click -> Type message. Everyone within 5km should see it if you're on group channel. 5) No quests. Just don't even go there. 6) Bandages, painkillers, and small arms already DO spawn in residential spawns, aka houses. Enfields, Winchesters, revolvers, M1911s, CZ550s... everything except military grade gear. So... congratulations, your suggestion is in the game?

Alright, truthfully? I'd love to see DayZ on CryEngine 3. It's beautiful and has a lot of potential. However, I don't think it's a realistic suggestion to move the entire game to an entirely new engine. There's already enough uncertainty regarding the shift to the ArmA 3 engine, and that shift is relatively minor given it's an update to the same core physics engine. Additionally, CryEngine in general isn't as inherently moddable as ArmA is - sure, it's easier to develop on than say, Battlefield, but it's nowhere near the practically built-in mod support that ArmA has. What I think will happen is that DayZ as a concept will spread to CryEngine 3, and that's what I think Rocket is shooting for. While we may not see DayZ ported to CryEngine 3 as "DayZ," we'll definitely start to see "CryZ" or other spinoffs crop up as the rest of the modding community takes hold of the idea. I wouldn't be surprised if the Project Reality team decided to make DayZ ports as a side project. tl;dr It's unrealistic to expect a port to Cryengine 3. Yes, it'd be awesome, but it's out of the scope of what Rocket can do. Let's hope some other modders/devs pick up the hint on what players like and make a new title.

This just in soccer banned in Elektro

Hah, that's just an additional challenge. Chernarus-rules football match, anyone? -
Actually, they're designed for anti-materiel only at short distance. .50 caliber rifles are regularly used as long-range sniper rifles where conventional 7.62 or .308 caliber rifles lack the power or speed. (See Carlos Hathcock, who strapped a scope to a .50 Browning M2 and had the longest confirmed kill in history from 1968 until 2002, when it was broken by a Candian team with Tac-50s). Heck, the reason that Craig Harrison's 2.4km kills (longest confirmed on record) are so impressive are because he used such a small caliber round, getting kills at nearly twice the effective range of the rifle and ammunition type, compared to the 2,000m effective range of a .50 cal rifle. The .50s are fine as is. They're not rare, they're not OP, in fact I'll pass up an M104 or AS50 if I can get my hands on an M24 just because they're overkill.

Your survivor can already run at a CONSTANT 5.5 m/s (aka, 12mph, a FIVE MINUTE MILE). These are soldiers/civilians, not Olympic athletes.

I accidentally the whole thing.
thorgold replied to Disgraced's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I had this happen a shitton right after 1.7.2 came out, it may have something to due with server/Hive desync and save files getting mixed up. Was alive with one guy. Logged out, went to another server (3 hour intervening period, give me a break). Came in to "You are DEAD" screen. Piss! Respawn, play a new character, log out. Log in, BACK to old character with all my gear, set about 30 minutes before my first log out. Play 12 days, get killed. Respawn as the second character with all HIS gear in the place I left him. I was close enough to catch my killer as he was looting me :P -
Tents, tents everywhere as far as the eye can see...
thorgold replied to AnonDayZ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, I seriously am starting to think that tents should be fixed immediately. The duping and indestructibility just destroys all concept of scavenging. It took me a week to find my first tent - dozens of supermarket raids, trips to Cherno (what fun), and other such things. Imagine my thrill when, in the back room of an apartment, I spy a camping tent. Two weeks later, I have seven stored away because tents keep respawning all over my camp. It took me three tries to place my tent right (successful placements, but packed up and redone). Now, every server reset, I get three new tents. So now, when I go to the market, it's no fun to find a tent. Whoop-de-do, a tent, I have an INFINITE NUMBER of those back at base. I have quite literally left piles of tents in the middle of the woods in an attempt to cull the herd. It's a bad sign when people start passing up rare items because a bug makes them more common (and unwanted) than tin cans. -

Shock. It means you've taken damage (non-zombie), and if you disconnect you'll be unconscious when you log back in. -
