So much talk about airfield, that sounds like i should stay the fark away from it
thorgold replied to oleg86@msn.com's topic in New Player Discussion
Airfields are dangerous, period. They're wide open and popular loot spots. However, they're relatively safe if you follow a couple rules: 1. Stay the hell off the runway. NWA has a forest - go through that, always. Yes, snipers will be watching it, but you'll have a much better survival chance than if you approached by the open area. 2. If you're gonna hit the hangers, hit the back first, then the front. Not only will you be away from the giant open door, but you'll be facing the direction of any attack. 3. Speed. Get in, get out - don't hit every building and corner, just grab what you can and go. Look at a map and see what you'll hit, and know exactly what route you'll take. Don't take risks with the zombies or the snipers. 4. For God's sake, stay PRONE on the top floor of the ATC. You will be shot, mercilessly, if you run around that tiny glass box upright. 5. Use a group. Best way to fight snipers is countersnipers, and the best way to not get shot is have someone else next to you for the sniper to chose. 6. Check ahead. Are there zombies on the airfield before you get within spawn distance? Someone's there. Use caution approaching the airfield. -
That's why I shoot the bro in the leg as zombie bait.

Nice. This is some classy banditry.

It's amazing what you can do with smoke grenades, a CZ550, and a hill. I was raiding NE airfield with a dude I was with when we found a CZ with 60 rounds (two piles full!). With nothing better to do on a 7 pop server, we decided to fuck with zed. We aggroed a dozen or so zeds with 3 smoke grenades, then ran off to the hill. We traded the rifle as we competed to get longest kill. I got to 1km or so before they despawned. He got more than me, though. It just must be me, but I run into a lot more friendly survivors than the "ZOMG everyone kos!" stories suggest.

Date/Time: 7/3/2012 What happened: Logged out while in a bus, logged back in and was killed instantly. Where you were: Stary Sobor wilderness (west of Black Forest) What you were doing: My squad and I were chilling in a bus while we waited for a friend to arrive. While inside the bus, one of my squad's computer froze up, causing him to leave the server. The bus did not move while he was logged out. He restarted and logged back in, at which point he was instantly killed at -2,500 blood. I was able to recover his body. My preliminary guess is that he wasn't logged back into his seat on the vehicle, but wasn't displaced from his coordinate location, causing him to spawn in the bus model and splatter. Current installed version: 1.7.1.5 Server(s) you were on: Austria Vilayer.com

Yellow Dots: Zombies Blue dots: Humans. Arrow indicates direction. Black Xs: Map markers. Visible to ALL players. Waypoints: GPS only, visible to you alone. The reason map markers are visible to ALL players is because all survivors are technically on the same team, BLUFOR. As a result, the map mechanics still work as if we were all teamed up, rather than in a free-for-all, so some communication methods (side channel when that still worked + maps) are still server-wide. GPS markers are only visible to your unique GPS. If you drop the GPS and someone takes it, the mark will be saved. Which could lead to some interesting ways to give people the finger... "Oh hey, a location!" 000,000 - FUCK YOU.

Spot on correct here. Also' date=' Arma2 characters travel at 1km per 3 min flat ground, open terrain running. [/quote'] Specifically, a full-sprint character will move at 5.5 m/s on flat or downhill terrain.

what is going on ? no server works
thorgold replied to Steven89's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The HIVE has been subject to DDoS attack throughout the day. Functionality will be restored eventually, but until then the servers are down. If you do find an online server, odds are you'll spawn in the debug forest. Keep calm and play a few OA missions. Do the helicopter tutorial. Go outside. -
Or, you ONLY break your leg when at the farthest point possible from a hospital or aid. 6 km crawl into Cherno, anyone?

Nice shot, good loot.

suggestion to make player think twice about PK
thorgold replied to Calcey's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
PvP is not a game mechanic problem - it doesn't require a "fix" like other issues, such as combat logging or server loot-hopping. PvP is an in-game problem that can only be solved by in-game efforts. Sniper at Cherno? Instead of running around dodging him, how about you observe for his location and hatchet him in the back? Guys camping NWA? Set up sniper overwatch and protect people going in. The main complainers are people who play solo, who get shot and have no chance to retaliate. Team up and work in groups - their stories usually involve "He got John, but we flushed the sniper out and got John's stuff back" instead of "I got sniped FOR NO RAISON and respawned across the map." Don't punish people for PvP. PvP is, in fact, the game's way of telling you that soloing is a dumbass thing to do in a zombie apocalypse. IMO, the only "fix" PvP needs is a nerfing of snipers. Throw in wind? Eliminate 90% of the snipers (solo CoD kiddies with no spotter). Stop server hopping for loot? Eliminate 95% of the snipers. Stop combat logging? Cripes, you'd actually see snipers get killed! -
The Journey of a (30 minute) Lifetime Rog Castle, Chicago 48. I stockpiled the spoils of a particularly successful loot trip that had taken me up and down the west coast, culminating in the fleecing of Rog Castle. Countless bandages and a pair of binoculars later, I was ready to leave when I noticed I'd forgotten to check the gatehouse room. Someone had set up barbed wire across the door, no doubt a server hopper or a man obsessed with safe spawning. I couldn't remember if I still had a toolbox, so I opened up my inventory to check... whoops. That G key is very close to the V key. I watched, helplessly, as I attempted to vault a barbed wire barrier. Soon, I was unconscious, bleeding profusely, and nursing broken legs. When I woke up, I bandaged myself, but to my chagrin I realized I had no morphine. Frantically, I cried out for a medic on the forum, but to no avail - all busy elsewhere with other broken-leg and 5000-blood victims. Most survivors in this situation would give up - wait hours for assistance to come or commit suicide to reincarnate in an more mobile body. However, death wasn't an option for me - I was going to live. So, I only had one choice - crawl 3km to Elektro with naught but a Winchester and a revolver to raid the hospital there. So, I crawled, rolled, and crawled some more. Whether luck was on my side and no snipers were present or the ghillied bandits were dumbstruck by the odd sight of a survivor barrel rolling down the hill to Elektro, I do not know. However, I do know I managed to make the 3km crawl with no ill harm whatsoever. I found two syringes of morphine, a blood pack, and a knife during my brief tenure in Elektro. In contrast to my stealthy entry, my exit from Elektro was heralded by pyrotechnics and gunfire as I threw some superfluous smoke grenades around the hospital as I made my escape. tl;dr Crawled through the streets of Elektro like a baws.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.
thorgold replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've broken my legs on some deviously placed barbed wire. My blood's at 7.5k and unable to move. Can I get an assist? Steam: xThorgoldx Currently on TS3 Survivor HQ server EDIT: Screw it, unless a medic feels like dropping in on me, I'll be crawling the 3km to Elektro. IT WILL BE WORTH IT. FRAPS WILL BE MADE. -

Hatchet! I choose you! Player uses "Right Click -> Remove Hatchet from Toolbelt!" Player uses "Hack!" It's super effective! Yah, the humble hatchet. One-hit body shot on zombies and completely silent, so none of that annoying aggro. When used in conjunction with doorways, the zombies literally line up to get Jack Torrence'd. Best of all, it's practically a 100% spawn rate for large barns, so farms become the go-to place for new spawns.

I'd support less effective bloodbags if used alone. Bloodbags are currently the main reason survivors will cooperate with strangers - "Heal me up, bro." Hell, it's the reason I don't KoS outside of Cherno. Perhaps using a bloodbag on yourself would only heal... 2,000 health. High enough to make it practical, but low enough to discourage hoarding. Or bloodbags would have a time delay, like 3,000 health over 15 minutes, while friend-adminstered bags would be instant.

You know, this is a brilliant idea. It's a way to give a little aesthetic bling to multi-day survivors without being a full skin change. Though I think it might get a little phallic for some players... Guy1: Look at the size of my beard! Guy2: My beard is TWICE as long! Guy1: Nah, it's like 3 inches, I've got a full 10! Bitches love beards.

I've done this before. I'll shoot on sight within 10m, but I recently saved a bleeding spawner from a few zeds in Elektro. Gave him a Makarov and my spare bandages. I like to keep my karma at neutral; take a penny, leave a penny and all that.

As I see it, the bandit mentality is "Survival for me," which means actively shooting other survivors for loot and safety. In this case, you'd be killing just for the sake of killing, despite knowing you'd be killed for that reason. Therefore, I don't think it'd be worth it or logical.

You might want to try the SP tutorial missions in Arma before you try driving/piloting in DayZ. The pilot training especially is useful, as are the basic movement/navigation tutorials.

I sat, quietly, in the finer of the Elektro firehouse. Gunshots rang outside and zombies screeched in agitation; a big fight was on. Gripping my trusty enfield, I did the only thing I could be expected to: I closed the doors and hid in the tower. Soon, the gunfire died down. As I poked me head out tenuously, zombie yells again flared up. Suddenly, a survivor crashed right into me - completely unarmed and bleeding profusely. We retreated into the firehouse, where he expired before I could bandage him. His pursuers didn't mind switching to me, though, for dinner. A dozen zeds purée through the doors, dropping as I emptied .303 rounds into their skulls. I thought it all for naught - ammunition lost, position compromised, until I searched the fallen zeds. Beans. 6 cans of beans for a starving survivor. As for the fallen man, I left it be for his return.

Can anyone actually play at night?
thorgold replied to FrostDMG's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't think that gamma/visual adjustments to see at night are exploits, since this game doesn't properly model night vision. Seriously, a human with decent vision is NEVER in pitch blackness while outside - them rods do a good job of picking up even starlight. In fact, the gamma "exploit" is probably the closest thing you can get to what natural NV looks like. -
The file is only 7b, and that goes to the .rtf extension. Methinks you didn't save/uploaded incorrectly.
