I'm a guy and I play as a chick, because I like to stare at woman ass, not man ass.... even though I can't see myself because I'm not some knob-head third person player. I might rethink my reasoning on this one :/ ~Sol

Mate, if I open a private server I'll let you know... I'd be happy to let people on who aren't going to be asshats. Can't assure a good ping if you aren't in Australia, but the offer is still open. I'll most likely be setting one up after the weekend (I have too many client requests for some design work to get done today and tomorrow) for 1.7.2.4 if all goes to plan. Not sure what the update will do to break it though, but it's still worth a mess around with. Also, the admins that do that shit are probably the same wankers that run around teleporting people in to the ocean and dropping jeeps on everyone's head. They probably also have some sort of sense of self entitlement that most kids these days do... since they are the ones paying for the servers that are getting uncontrollably shit all over becuase rocket thinks it's "cool". Guess what Rocket, it ain't fuckin' cool man! ~Sol -

Check this shit: http://dayzmod.com/f...-rocket-inside/ You make one yourself and invite your friends, or you go to one of many Minecraft master server lists and pick one, or you ask on the forums, or look at the many many server threads people make to "advertise" thier servers. Some are totally private (typically whitelisted) while others are public. The public servers are usaully protected with server sided mods (not available for ARMAII of course), but there are one's that arent' and usually end up griefed to shit (like the current DayZ situation). I wouldn't do that shit as an admin. I'm fully prepared to take it on the chin when it's not because of a blackhawk and 16 nukes going off, oh and parachuting cows and ammo crates... Hackers are always fucking idiots.... admins, well, there are a lot of us who don't abuse the rules... also if you're playing on a private server, chances are it's going to be cooperative anyway or maybe pre-defined/determined "factions" where you expect war. ~Sol -
Why the "HIVE" won't work until we have some stability
Sol (DayZ) replied to Sol (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm talking about my own projects. Also, I missed your comment about my "snarky comment"... it wasn't intended to be snarky... I was curious since you seemed to have loads of questions related to how most non-MMO style games transfer and store data. If figured you either hadn't played any non-MMO games, or hadn't made the connection between any other game, and how a private server might work. Also, just read this: UPDATE FROM ROCKET:"... recommend at the moment to do private servers for the live streams. And that actually brings up a good issue because a lot of people have been asking for the ability to create private servers or separate hives and things like that. And I think that's something we need to seriously think about as well going forward, um... you know I wanted to keep it like it is at the moment to get the message out there, to say: "This is a multiplayer game!", to the people we could use for financing and things like that. If they saw that the idea could be taken as a single-player game then they would have gone for that. So what we've done here is we've, you know the gamers have spoken and said "we wanna see more of this", so... we don't have to worry about that so much. So I think that we can probably come to some solution here and in the short term that would help with the hacking". Seems like Rocket already knows the HIVE is causing problems... maybe I won't have to quit playing after-all? ~Sol -

Sol (DayZ) replied to Sol (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have perfect persistence in more than one project. I don't think it's as difficult as you think it is. I can't even program very well... I'm the project designer/director and artist for the project I'm working on... world persistence is childs play, and for the most part, easily faked. *EDIT* If you are referring to the ARMAII engine specifically, I'm afraid I don't know how it works so I can't comment... but I fail to see why that's even a problem as it has nothing to do with HIVE storage vs. local storage. Awesome man, I'll check that out now. Cheers :) ~Sol -

Mate, when it gets to that point, I'm all for it. The mistake I am trying to outline is the fact he's chasing this HIVE bullshit at the completely wrong time. ~Sol -

Sol (DayZ) replied to Sol (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would if I knew any. I was considering starting my own... I've done the research into it and I have a system here that can easily cope. Sure as fuck any skiddies show up and they will be banhammered in 0.2 seconds. I ran my Minecraft server with an iron fist... we had several griefer attempts which all resulted in them being banned from a prestigious server at the time, and no permanent damage being done. Proof? Read the forums lately dude? Getting rid of the HIVE and going private (or at least having the option to do so!) would reduce if not eliminate the hacker problem. Hackers cannot exist in private groups (unless your friends are assholes). Also, I'm not trying to "emulate" anything... Rocket wants the "EVE system" so I think you're slightly confused. I want to opposite. Also, how am I butthurt? You're just being a sterling example of why I want a private server... a fucking twat asshole. ~Sol -

Sol (DayZ) replied to Oddzball's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I understand that... but the problem is really the fact the game is so open to exploits and environmental issues, that any data collected will be basically 95% useless. Like it does now, only it will store it on the local server rather than the HIVE. Again, using Minecraft as an example... the world file, player inventories, etc are all created, modified, and stored on the local server. If a new player logs in, their profile is created on the server, and the contents of thier inventory etc are stored in that profile. A player walks to a new area, and the server will generate new world/terrain data there and distribute it to the game clients in that area. In other words, there will be no difference to how it works now, except the data will be local instead of on a "cloud". Hope this clears things up a little more? ~Sol -

Sol (DayZ) replied to Sol (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The data writes would simply flow to the server IP, instead of the HIVE IP, making data storage local per server. this would mean your character would be server-bound on private servers. Never played a multiplayer game before that's NOT an MMO? ~Sol -

I am a small independent developer who has a team of 4 guys... we are making a game and have been doing so for the last 7 months. I have roughly 20 years of experience with game design, and games in general. I have qualifications both in general industry design (artwork, logos, websites, etc etc) and systems management. Also, this point is really moot... since it shouldn't matter. It's a game that anyone can make a server for. You can have as many or few players are you want, and can make it public/private/whitelisted, etc. It's not much different to how MOST other games work... one person hosts a server, everyone else joins... they have fun playing the game the way they like it without being over-run by a bunch of kids that find it fun to ruin everyone elses (fun). ~Sol -

Sol (DayZ) replied to Oddzball's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The fact the game is different doesn't impact on the way the people that play the game can interact. It doesn't matter if it's multiplayer PONG, Minecraft, DayZ or the latest rubbish from PopCap... the release model is proven, and can work with any game design. Even with mapping tools... and satellite importing... a map big enough to cope with 50,000 players... hell let's just do even 500 players... - Currently at 225km^2 with 50 people, you tend to run into one person every 4.5km^2 (so in a straight line, that's one person every 300m) - For 500 people, we would need effectively 10x the area, or 22,500km^2 to have the same player to terrain density. - For 50,000, we would need 1000x the area, or an impossible 22,500,000km^2 or roughly 1/4 of the size of the land mass on Earth, again for the same player density. Now I don't know about you, but in an apocalypse I would expect to only see a handful of people still alive... otherwise it's not really an apocalypse, is it? I'm sorry but making a map that size is impossible with using instance breakdowns with much lower pop caps (eliminating the usefulness of a HIVE server in the first place), unless you use procedural techniques to generate the world map... which will take months though more likely, years to write something complex enough to make a convincing city or town. I have written several procedural terrain generation algorithms with my meager programming skills, using L systems and cellular automata... the shit isn't exactly a breeze. ~Sol -

Sol (DayZ) replied to Sol (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This tells me nothing. Standalone will be plagued with as many if not more problems than now... that's f it even eventuates. This project is likely going to die before we ever see a standalone version if the HIVE situation doesn't change. I think some of you guys seem to believe that the standalone is going to be like "copy and paste" all of the work Rocket has done so far. It's not. It will be a complete rewrite, from scratch, and with any new content... it will take a LONG TIME. Reported for being an asshole ~Sol -

Sol (DayZ) replied to Oddzball's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
- So where has Rocket said anything about maps large enough to cope with that many players? - Where has Rocket said that's the number of players? - What about the rest of the players... since 60k players is a few less than the 800k GUIDS currently in circulation? You do realise how long that shit takes to make right? YEARS and YEARS with dev teams of 100+ people. The APB Reloaded district Waterfront, took 80+ designers 3 years to build... and it's nowhere NEAR the size of Chernarus. It's a heavily detailed but rather tiny part of a city district. I believe you might be under the assumption that there is some kind of "make map" button you can press. Still think I don't get it, and that I'm stupid? I know more about making games and computer software than you know about the birds and the bees mate. Unless the standalone game is going to come out in 5 years time, or he has been secretly working on it already for 5 years, there is no fucking way known to man that the map will be much, if any bigger then Chernarus,or htat this HIVE thing is even going to work. Go ahead, prove me wrong. I'd love to see this. ~Sol -

Sol (DayZ) replied to Oddzball's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I more than "get it". It's a shitty idea to have at this time. It's nothard to grasp what he wants to do, but when the whole fucking internet is against you and tries to make it impossible, why continue? 50-60k people on a single server? HAHAHAHAH wow... I don't think YOU get it. 1. The map is WAY TOO SMALL 2. No game has THAT many players at once, there are server instances, in which case my point of private servers would remedy this. I see it's there because Rocket thinks it would be "cool", but it's simply not going to work no matter how many "cool points" you want to slap on it. The game beeds major re-structuring to even work with an idea like this HIVE server. Stop telling me "I don't get it" when I know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm not an idiot, thanks. I guess this doesn't include me, since I am a game developer. It's disgusting why? I disagree that this HIVE is a good idea for multiple reasons, and you cannot DENY that having a private server available would stop 99% of the community issues right now with hackers and griefers. Really? Where do I complain and whine? Please show me. I simply state facts of affair. Absolute fucking hypocrite. Tell me it's not my decision yet you're here telling me how wrong I am. Good job. It will feel like an MMO with a private server that has 25 of my mates playing on it... I still don't follow your logic or your blind obsession with something that countless other players have an issue with. Whatever man, I'm sure you will just reply with more OH BUT YOU'RE JUST CRAP AND YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ME! I don't give a fuck... this game is ultimately my competition, so I have no idea why I'm even saying this shit to try and help... I hope it falls on it's face and leaves more market share for me. There, now I sound lie afuckhead, just like you. Oh and, I've noticed you tend to make these comments against me regularly... you got some kind of bone to pick, boy? ~Sol -

Sol (DayZ) replied to Oddzball's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So case and point, clearly it's not "supposed to be" broken. Just because I can see it's useless, doesn't mean that he's going to listen. He doesn't know me, or have any form of value of my knowledge, so that's simply not going to happen. He will do what he's going to do and that's that... mistake or otherwise. The reason I don't care is because you can have this very same game, working perfectly fine in a private server situation... it doesn't have to be MMO to work... look at Minecraft... easily the most successful indie game ever made, played by millions and millions of people HAPPILY on their private servers. I'm suggesting he dumps this shitty waste of space idea, and goes with a more flexible and proven network model. If he REALLY wants to make a central server, do it once the engine isn't so full of holes that every single time I've tried to play in the last 24 hours I get aimbotted, wallhacked, teleported, fist fucked, or turned into a goat. So let's pretend this MMO thing is even a good idea... I guess that only 50-60 people will be able to play at once since the map isn't big enough to have more than that really, so this "central" HIVE server is a waste of fucking time unless he plans on making a MUCH larger map... like 50x the current size (even if it had "loading" zones). ~Sol -
You know, in a real zombie apocalypse
Sol (DayZ) replied to fluffyg's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes there is, except the zombies aren't dead people walking around... They are the self-important kids of today, who can barely string two words together, and are generally degenerate pieces of shit. I hope I die from old age before the current generation gets into any form of world dominance/control because frankly I'd rather pluck my eyes out with a spoon than have to live in a real world "Idiocracy". ~Sol -
You're just a fucking troll faced dickhead, who seeks to argue with EVERY SINGLE PERSON that makes an even semi-intelligent post. YOU and people LIKE YOU are the reason this game sucks, and this community is falling apart. I don't usually attack people like this, but the last 20 posts from you have been nothing but ignorant drivel, telling people that their opinion is "gay". Go play in the middle of a busy intersection. ~Sol

Sol (DayZ) replied to Oddzball's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So again, why is he so upset, saying how "we" killed it... etc... when the problem could easily be fixed or alleviated by allowing the server content to be made available for anyone to download and use? He's so protective over this HIVE thing, when it's a waste of fucking time under the current circumstances. It would be like having your heart set on a 2012 Lambo Aventador , when you live in the Australian bush 150km from nowhere and need a troop carrier to traverse the terrain... how long is that Lambo gonna last? Get a fucking troop carrier until you can pave the road, it's not really that hard of a decision to make. ~Sol -
Ghilliesuit not working for Females in DayZ
Sol (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Uh, yes it does.... Have you even read the message? My "quote" probably isn't 100% accurate, but it says "This feature is currently not available for female characters, but will be added soon" or some shit like that. If you can't figure it out from that message, you shouldn't be allowed to post things on the internet. *EDIT* Reason: It is not available yet (that's a reason) ~Sol -
Probably wouldnt hurt if Rocket communicated a little bit more...
Sol (DayZ) replied to Oddzball's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Then why is he so upset in the post about half way down page 1... if the game is supposed to be broken, then what's the fucking point? Simple, it's not SUPPOSED to be broken at all. It just is, and stubborness is stopping it from having at the very least, a workaround, for the majority of the community. IE Private servers. I'm about to download the server files now, because I've had enough of being blown up, teleported, and generally made miserable because a few Rocket fanboys think his words are like the Holy Bible, and when he said "it's meant to be broken" they take it literally, and seem to WANT it to remain completely fucked up and un-usable by anyone with half a working brain or more. Anyone who disagrees, can essentially be thrown in the pile of hackers and trouble makers, since clearly they are the only sort of people that would even consider defending this utter madness. ~Sol
