Consequences of player killing - a new direction!

BathSalts is unfortunately right. People like this do exist, and when the real zombie apocalypse happens I will be avoiding any unknown human contact like it was AIDS. I'm far more scared of the weirdo down the street than a zombie... the only thing stopping the weirdo now is "civilisation". Once that's gone, then what's stopping him? Use this as an extended learning experience on the behaviour of the average sheep you meet from now, until you die. ~Sol

    City and Town Lighting

Where I live, the street lights are solar charged and powered by the battery at night. I'm not even sure how long the DayZ "outbreak" has been around for... but since the zombies are "infected" and not "undead" I'd say a fairly short amount of time. Maybe some lights would still work on thier own as well? I definately like the idea of lights and generators... it's something I've always considered myself. Running a generator though is loud, and should attract more zombies. It would also run on fuel like a car does, and require refuelling as well as guarding. The constant stream of spawning zombies would be tiresome... but still... I like the core thought here. ~Sol

    Immersive Roleplay

I despise when people do this shit. Just stop, please... you sound like a 2 year old. Using this "oh but such-and-such is like that" argument is gay and stupid. Minecraft didn't invent "Crafting"... and "combining" or "crafting" is the same thing, no matter what symmantec candy coating you want to give it. I guess DayZ shouldn't be 3D because Quake was 3D, and it's not Quake. I like a lot of aspects of this idea. Stapling yourself would probably do more harm than good, since medical staples are usually used for things like bones, not fleshy bleeding wounds. I would suggest soucher kits or even super glue. The sharpeneding of weapons is also a great idea, and would love to see more things in the game have a repair/upgrade feature (much like repairing cars... upgrading... crafting.... same fuckin' shit) where certain things are needed to achieve the result. Also, as much as a despise durability options in games, I would also like to see the occasinal axe handle snap after you've used it 2000 times, or a gun jam up and bend a firing pin after a few hundred rounds and not being cleaned. So much potential... but wait, Skyrim has axes. ~Sol

    The Zombies need changing

How easy it is to lose them has zero bearing on how they should behave in terms of running speed and other AI operations. Maybe they need to be made a little smarter again, since yes they seem a little easy to shake.... this doesn't however mean there isn't other shit wrong. I'm aware of why they do it... again, still doesn't change the fact it needs to be fixed. Poor pathfinding routines are easily fixed in most 3D space... I can't comment directly on the ARMA engine since I haven't developed for it at all, but surely it can't be that hard to fix something so trivial. ~Sol
  5. All pretty good ideas. Some rebalancing of how the items would work, would be in order... since as you mentioned being about to have 100 painkiller doses would be insane and totally imblanaced. The only thing I can consider here is, the reason you eat a whole box is probably because most medication has an expirey date, and it may not work very well. Having to find better quality pills by digging through the weathered/worn/wet/soiled out packaging could be the reason. Personally I think bandages are too common, but I agree on pretty much everything else in essense. Also, it's morphine, not morfine ;) ~Sol

    The Zombies need changing

DayZ zombies are more like "28 Days Later" zombies... they run and are still prone to standard physiological elements, like having a disfunctional heart because you just blew it away with a shotgun. They are not Romero/Brooks zombies incarnations, so they don't have to move slowly or eat brains, or die from only headshots. Here is my opnion on the current DayZ zombies: - They still run too freakishly stupidly insanes fast. They need to be a little less excited, and move thier arms and legs less rapidly for the distance they travel. Currently they look like the Road Runner doing a burnout on ice, or The Flash on meth. - They have some kind of ESP line of sight shit going on still as mentioned by Sick 'n Twiztid where they can see you from outer space through a shitstorm. This is especially annoying when you are in a building and don't even see then coming, until they are raping you from behind you while you're trying to find your toothbrush. - They glitch through closed doors, barbed wire, and walls still (though far far less than previous versions) like Casper the friendly ghost. - They spawn right on top of you (yes, still) but don't even buy you a drink first - They wander too close to noob spawn areas, like the beach at Kamenka is usually crawling with zombies. I have been eaten at least 5 times within 3 seconds of logging in because of beach wanderers. - They have weird directional AI where they will wander some general direction for a nice while, meandering along quite realistically.... to suddenly 180° about-face for no reason at all, and at super speed. It doesn't seem natural, and they remind me of the "too much ketamine raver" video. So, while the OP reasoning doens't coincide with the DayZ lore/world... Yes please, fix. ~Sol

Fair call. Crappy forum software is crappy.... also, poorly named threads are the bane of my existence as a mod elsewhere. ~Sol

    Suggestion for Blood Recovery

I don't understand? Yes I know it takes days for your blood to regenerate... that's not the point really. Time isn't the issue, since we can already instantly heal broken bones with morphine. Either common food needs to give WAY more than a measly 200 blood back, (while meat needing significantly less on the current scale) or there needs to be a slow blood regeneration over time... like real life (only faster). I don't see what being a hospital employee has to do with anything. I'm a hopsital employee but I don't know anything about being a doctor... I'm a computer technician. ~Sol

    Brokenleg

Protip: if you want to backdoor moderate, at least link to existing threads. On Topic: While I am all for realism in games that are supposed to be depicting realistic situations... I can't see using a splint being a good idea from a "fun" perspective. Considering the lifespan of your character is typically minutes or hours... or days and longer if you're experienced... a broken leg would take months to heal enough to walk at full speed again. If I was ever punished beyond needing morphine when I don't have it, for a broken bone... I'd suicide immediately since it would just be too unfair and annoying to continue. ~Sol

    Suggestion for Blood Recovery

Recovering blood slowly over time, would not be "like Minecraft" it would be "like real life". When you give blood, you have less blood. Your body makes more blood, all by itself...slowly, over time... not instantly when you eat McDonalds. I for one, support this suggestion heavily. Being fully fed, and hydrated... you SHOULD slowly increase blood. On a related note, blood packs should NOT give you full blood. It should add a set amount (say, 5000 blood for example). Again, this would be more "realistic" in terms of how things would really work, in real life... with a simple mechanic switch-up. Also, to anyone who uses "no just no"... I hope you die in a fire. :) ~Sol
