Adding "skills" to limit senseless PvP killing Player learned and teachable skills
Sol (DayZ) replied to firefox (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You can die easily in real life too. Are you saying you're going to be a useless couch-potato, and go on welfare benefits for the rest of your life because it's all just pointless? I've always liked the thought of a skill set that "levels up" in a hidden fashion, as you do certain things repeatedly. I'm no expert marksman, but after I shot the same gun 100 times I bet I'd be pretty okay with it. Catch what Im sayin' here? ~Sol -
It is when the game is supposed to be realistic. Stop trying to make undistinguished connections between games as a generalization. Real life is a "game" mate, and that's as real as it gets. DayZ is "supposed to be" a realistic zombie survival game, so realism is a perfectly valid comparison. There are however certain limitations on realism you can have without making it so everyone could only play once (because if you die, then fuck you, etc), as you pointed out... but for the most part, even though it's a game, it's supposed to be realistic. The ARMA engine is essentially a simulator, therefore DayZ can also be assumed to be as such also. ~Sol

Yeah I can't believe they would try that... I mean it doesn't even seem logical to be able to ride an ATV over a bridge. I'm glad they decided to mimick this dangerous act in DayZ just in case people didn't realise this was a REAL threat. /sarcasm ~Sol

An all-round solution to alt-F4 & server hopping
Sol (DayZ) replied to chaR's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That's only because he's going about it in the wrong way. He's trying to keep the logged out character persistent on the server, AFTER the connection has been dropped. Clearly the ARMA2 engine doesn't have support for non-local entities to be maintained if the receive packets are dropped. All that needs to happen, is Rocket needs to nicely request from his work buddies that they add the ability to disable certain keys from functioning while in-game. I propose the F4 key, and the "Windows" key be disabled through engine hard-coding. Following this... make certain conditions for the ABORT/LOGOUT button to be active, such as; + Player has not moved for 30 seconds + Player has not sustained damage (blood loss) for 30 seconds (cannot log out while bleeding to wait 7 hours for your mate to come save you) -->Logout is now allowed This would eliminate the need to keep some ghost/phantom/imaginary connection of a player that's not there, and likely already logging on somewhere else, simply be reversing the thought process. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Like all other things in life, there are always rules and laws. I know, that while many of them are "made to be broken", most people can discern the difference between "right and wrong" or the "50 shades of grey". There should simply be rules in place where, if enough evidence is captured of players performing unsportsmanlike behaviour can be banned through submission and review. Tracking data and making life hard for people who have kids, run a business, have unexpected visitors, internet trouble (thanks, rainy weather) is really just crazy. If the community gets fed up enough by this behaviour that "can't be fixed because of X reason" then give us the power to do it ourselves. Then and only then will we stop seeing endless threads about the topic, and endless posts of Rocket repeating the same thing over and over again to everyone. Give us the ability to submit these screenshots and videos, and a way to more easily identify a player by name since everyone looks like a fucking clone of the next guy (I love APB Reloaded customization... you can't get any two players confused), and follow up by banning the individuals who cause the problem. When you die, you should be presented with your killers name, not for realism but for policing hackers that insta-kill entire servers worth of people from some place you can't even see them. Quite simply if someone submits a video recording of poor behaviour, like ALT+F4 or server hopping to move covertly... get enough "strikes" they get banned for life. Simple as that. No need for any more "solutions". No need for anything I even said above... give us the power and the means, and the hackers and griefers and ALT+F4'ers will all be gone. If the community truly hates it so much, we will make it happen if you give us the means. ~Sol -
DayZ is booring at late game - my idea.
Sol (DayZ) replied to Bebop (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Everything in life is repetitive. It's what makes us human. We figure things out to the infinite degree... there is only so much you can do with limited resources. I like how you note that it's still not boring though, which is exactly why DayZ is on the right path to success still... if only the major problems would be addressed instead of using up bandwidth to log useless data, and loopholes in the system that allows for it's ultimate destruction by people who simply get "bored" or find it fun to ruin 1000's of other players games. ~Sol -
This. It also works for bikes, even if you've gotten off the bike, or like me kicked from the server because of lag and found the bike on it's side. Otherwise, yeah... wait for server restart to fix it right up. ~Sol
-
The approach we are taking is "would that happen in real life?" If it's a yes, we add it... if it's a not, or very unlikely then we simply don't. So far there are over 30 stat affecting elements to our engine, all of which are treated in realistic manners.... no morphine to "fix" your broken leg, sorry. You'll have to build a splint and hobble around, or figure something else out. I'm adding a wheelchair later... but don't worry, your tires won't go flat from hitting the nearest pebble at 2mph. ~Sol

DayZ is booring at late game - my idea.
Sol (DayZ) replied to Bebop (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You might be talking about that, but OP clearly states "there is no other point than killing people for fun", which is the EXACT attitude that ruins the game. I don't want to remove PvP, bandits, or asshole killers... I want to remove faggots that get bored and effectively ruin days and days of WORK and EFFORT because they want to have "fun". ProTip (I'm going to have to start numbering these): If you get "bored" of DayZ, then go do something the fuck else to "have fun". ~Sol -
Auto-Blood Regen when you are green on food and water?
Sol (DayZ) replied to Spintown's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This. All of it. Things like broken legs should heal by themselves too, but over a LONG TIME. Not like real life, because who wants to wait 6 months to walk right again... but maybe a few hours or even a day to heal by itself... I mean, if morphine can "heal" you instantly (which is hilarious, by the way) then I don't see why we can't have a delayed auto-heal system for people all the way up north who don't HAVE morphine, because they broke their legs thanks to the server restarting suddenly without warning, while they were driving their car. After logging back in my legs insantly broke since I was slipped half way inside of the vehicle. ~Sol -
If I was in an apocalypse survival situation I would...

Learn to forum or GTFO. This is not a suggestion, and does not belong in the suggestions section. Reported for move. ~Sol -
I've found loads of transport, but yeah... on higher population servers, generally ALL of the vehicles have already been hoarded away. ProTip (since I quit that server and the stuff is probably still there) on US 1192 server, I have a camp NW of the NW airfield near the crossroads between the airfield and the edge of the map. I can't remember the grid coordinates just now, but you can find 2 ATVs there and a bunch of tents full of gear. I had a red Skoda and a dirt bike too, but lost them due to some misfortunate accidents and server bugs, combined with some fag-ass hiding in a tree that can apparently see in perfect darkness from 100's of meters away. ~Sol

This is funny because, all of these mechanics are currently being worked on in the project that I am directing... hahaha glad someone else agrees that these things could literally be your downfall... I used the "what if you were hiding, and you farted, then the zombie found you" scenario with my design team and they loved it. Support. ~Sol

Auto-Blood Regen when you are green on food and water?
Sol (DayZ) replied to Spintown's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's realistic that your body would slowly regenerate blood. I'd hate to see alien laser beam heat seeking missile UFO bombardment fleet of death in DayZ... personally. ~Sol -
DayZ is booring at late game - my idea.
Sol (DayZ) replied to Bebop (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't understand this "end game" shit you people spout. I can be fully kitted in 5 minutes of starting... but I still haven't "survived". I don't have a means to stay alive. The game doesn't "end" until you are dead... so unless you have absolutely EVERY item/vehicle/etc plus a stock pile of food, water, and storage... then why do you feel there is nothing left to do but death-match people? People like you are the reason I dislike this game so much as a whole... people "get bored" and decide to "shoot random people for the lulz" which just makes people like me not want to even play. The game is supposed to give some semblance to real life... where you are VERY unlikely to randomly shoot someone in the face because you're "bored". The trouble with DayZ and the "end game" its that the only consequence is losing your inventory, and even then most of the time you can recover it. If you don't like "end game" which, to me is the exact same as "start of game" then go find another "game" so you don't annoy the FUCK out of people who are trying to play it "properly". Go invent things for yourself to do, like... run around the NW airfield 16 times with no ammo, then gravy train the entire fleet of zombies all the way to chern. That will stop you from being bored, and stop you from ruining someone elses game because you miss playing CoD. ~Sol -
I wish I could kick your face in, through the internet. Your contribution to this thread has been invaluable. I like how you give examples of why your opinion is even valid. The fact is, mags don't come preloaded in real life. You are more likely to find boxes of bullets, than you are to find a bunch of loaded mags. It would add to the immersion, realism, and general difficulty of the game if this idea was implemented. You couldn't go guns blazing into a fire fight, because you have 20 mags in your inventory.... you might have 3 mags and 500 rounds of ammo that you have to REARM every time you deplete. Like the other 65 threads about this same topic (I love how people never even TRY to search), I still support it. ~Sol

Should we be able to pull axes out of tree stumps?
Sol (DayZ) replied to JamesButlin's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Why not? It's not like they are useful in any way. Right now hatchets are too easy to find as it is... making them collectable from the stump just adds to the problem. I support axe/stump removal if the existing hatchet spawn rate is reduced. The easy solution is to just remove the axe/stump all together, or modify the model so that the axe is all rusted and useless looking, or has a broken handle, etc. ~Sol -
Thread number 486 on this topic. They flip back over after server restart. I camped next to my Skoda for 5 hours that I managed to flip while doing 100kmph and hitting a washing machine... only to have someone blow out a tire in the meantime while I wasn't watching, to then take another 5 hours to find a wheel AFTER the car had already flipped back over, to then have the server restart again only minutes later still 1km from camp on a dirt road and now three wheel mysteriously missing... to have some other player beat me to fixing it, stealing the car, then crashing it right back in the same washing machine that i flipped it over on.... to then get on my bike after finding two wheels and getting sniped in the middle of the night while going to fix the car AGAIN.... now I've lost my car, bike, two wheels and a bunch of other shit thanks to a dodgy server and some asshole hiding in a tree. RAGE! /rant ~Sol

Go hug some zombies... Also, anyone who thinks hackers are "hilarious" and "good" is simply encouraging shitty behaviour and should be slapped in the same category as the hacker themselves... and thus be perma-banned. IMO encouraging hackers is the same as hacking. ~Sol

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.4 Rolling Update
Sol (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
My tents are still eating everything on server restart, and cloning items that had previously been removed... This is really starting to annoy me enough to stop playing until it's 100% fixed. I keep stocking up on ammo and food, as well as car spares (since tires seem to blow up at the mere thought of running into something) to only have them vanish into thin air with every restart. I still wonder why after the first server reboot after the upgrade was rolled out, my car ended up with 3 flat tires, and the fuel tank and engine badly damaged. Cars are too much of a glitchy pain-in-the-ass right now. I can't even figure out how to contact the server admin to see if he can help at all... GRAAAGH SO FRUSTRATING! Other than that, the new patch seems to deliver all that was listed... I was REALLY hoping tents would stop shitting all over my game though. ~Sol -
Anyone else running the 95310 build? The server I am playing on just wiped all my vehicles and tents. They didn't come back after a couple of restarts... wondering if 95310 has broken something as well... ~Sol

Good job douchebag. You are a stellar example of the exact thing OP was talking about. If you can't be fucked reading the thread (or at the very least, the OP) you should probably avoid posting. On Topic: I think having some form of friendly signal would be superb. Side channel, or even a localized global chat (within say, 2-3km) system would work nicely. I know it's not "realistic" but neither is being completely unable to speak or essentially, wave a white flag. I find "bandits" part of the fun of the game and I wouldn't want to ruin some l33t l33t CoD kiddies fun... sure he might take down one or two of us, but our group has already shoved it right back up the asses of a few players making attack attempts. It's part of the thrill, and I wouldn't want to stop it ever. Personally I have only ever murdered one person in cold blood, and it was by accident... all other times it was self defense. Thing is, I will 99% of the time I'll know you're there before you'll know I'm there... this always gives a brilliant insight to a players behaviour and whether or not they should be trusted. I support this thread, and like always... detest the 99% useless spamming idiots that comprise 99% of the internet. Oh internet, how do I love thee. ~Sol
