    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

Every day I come here and read all the stuff in the pending update threads. Today I had several quotes I wanted to reply but I don't want to start a quote war. The respawn button is not used as intended if you respawn because you don't like the location to get closer to your team, your tent(s) or anything else In both cases: Be a man, deal with it. Run to the location desired and if that takes you an hour to get there... it is part of the game and it is not realistic to teleport from one respawn point to the other. Using the respawn button is ok (not to say needed), if you have been fucked up by a hacker (e.g. turned into a cow or a sheep) respawned in DebugHills (and have no chance to get killed such as run to a z) Both of the things above do happen and up to now are definitely not fixed (and as stated before I doubt that spawning in Debug Hills is really fixed now because it has been addressed many times before, IIRC as long as the mod exists... if this should be really fixed, there are still hackers that can bring you in serious trouble). Beeing heavily injured may be another reason, but honestly, I disagree with that because you can crouch to a z who will finish you up and doing so wont cost you hours normally. The fix for the respawn button (my opinion) is: Do not remove it from the game If you hit respawn, you always respawn at your previous respawn point (unless this is DebugHills). I don't care a shit about start-up items duplication but for those who do: you could add starting with nothing at all if the respawn was done at free will Hitting respawn is disabled for a considerable amount of time (e.g. 5 minutes) Problem fixed. No big deal, no real problem when fucked up anywhere by anyone and no reason for anyone to respawn if not really necessary.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

That was a good one. This bug is alive since DayZ is alive. Would be really surprised if it should be fixed now (in that case could not understand why it was not fixed before). Of course. Think about it once again, this does not make any sense at all. If you move or shoot, the countdown should be aborted. This way you can normally not escape from a conflict with another player by DC regulary because he will not allow you to stand still. Alt+F4 (or any other abort)... simply let the char remain in game for one minute. ( -> Problem -> solved!) I second that. Such a good advice... thanks. I think everyone tries to not break ones legs. But this can happen even if you try hard not to break them. Anyways, one should be able to decide if he wants to go for the quest for morphine or simply start over new (my opinion). I second that (and this happend to me at least 3 times before and simply do not believe this is fixed now by simply not spawning there).Up to now I did never use the Respawn button just because I did not like the spawn point. I do not think the player should be able to choose the spawn point. Wrong spawn point? Deal with it. But several days in Dayz have taught me that you will spawn in DebugHills. You will get stuck and have no way out. You will brake your bones and have 4 hours crouching ahead of you for next morphine spawn point. In this cases (this is my opinion!) I want the option to start over, even if I have a DMR, Backpack, NVGs and all tools one could need.

You are so cool. You refer to this post? So your advice is that I should read rockets posts (which I do)? Or do you refer to the statement that you will no longer spawn out of bounds? In case this case, how long do you think that this bug is scheduled to be fixed (and it is definitely not fixed up to now)? As long as there are still reports of people spawning at debug hill, you should not take away the only way out (Respawn). ***IF*** this is ***REALLY*** fixed, you could decide to remove the respawn button. I do not see how the removing of this feature does improve the game. I don't care if sb uses this to have an easier start. I go from where ever I start... except from debug hills!

Hm. Still, if Respawn is removed -> what can I do if stuck in Object or spawned in Debug Hills?

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

To me this one has a smell. You have a big party running and hide away stuff in different tents on different servers and complain about not beeing able to swap items between several tents on identical places ... in your several universes? I undestand you don't want to loose your stuff but Dayz is definitely not intended to be used like that. But I agree with you in your first point. One may not be used to the dark or just dislike playing when its dark.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

5 Seconds is simply too less. 30 seconds (in which you are not allowed to move, otherwise the log out is aborted) should do the job.I am totally uncomfortable with disabling the respawn button. I visited the debug hills to often and last time was yesterday (1.7.2.3). What can I do in Debug Hills? Reconnecting did not do the job either. I hit respawn, lost my loot but was glad that I had not to live in Debug Hills for several days until my Character dies from thirst or hunger.

    Hotfix Build 1.7.2.3 Rolling Update

I completely disagree with you. Current reports do list some bugs. Some lost their weapons or other stuff. Inconvenient, but it's alpha. This is about gameplay and I agree with your oponent, this changed dramatically by decreasing hearing sensitivity (to nearly deaf) and increasing the visual sensitivity to eagle-eye. This has not been reportet too often, in fact the minority of posts refer to this topic. If Dayz is intended to be more "dynamic" and less "thrilling", this goal has been reached. Read through this thread you can see that most of the players adapted to the current Zombie aggro system by simply running around (don't care how much Zombies are aggroed) and simply look for a 2-exit house or some other obstacle to break sight. Perhaps other players spot you easier, but when moving fast, the risk to be shot is quite low. I prefer the previous aggro system where you had to sneak into towns. Trying to be silent, careful, move slow. More risky, more thrill. Risk to be sniped when moving slow. More "tactical movement", more patience required, it took me more effort. This is why the current aggro system (for me) seems to be a step in the wrong direction (as it led to dramatical change in gameplay). Feels wrong, not "realistic" to move like that in a Zombie- stained surrounding, you would not like to aggro a Zombie. Do the road-runner-thing was last choice, only if everything went wrong and you had no other option, you would have done that. Now it is first option to deal with Zombies. Nah. Don't like that. In my opinion, Zombies should be able to see you with a very narrow field of vision (just few degrees, as it is now) and not on high distance (such as more than 40 - 50 meters, atm, they spot you from 150m as well). The fact that some see you and some not (exponential chance on closer distances) is -in contrast to my critics on new aggro system- really fantastic, I really like this! They should hear you again (as it was before, perhaps be little less sensitive as before) and react to gunfire sounds. But I see that opinions are quite different on this aspect. Most players seem to like the change, so I fear it's me and my slow/ careful/ nearly tactical way to play Dayz is to bite the dust...

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

You are not a server hopper, if you just log out and in again (the same server). I don't call anyone a server hopper, I just see that this is more or less common use. If you have advantage by logging off, this is not meant to be like that. I still do not see how to come across this *without* any inconvenience for legit players.

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

This is the comment I expect coming from server hoppers that take advantage by doing so. If you play for an hour or two on one server without changing the server, this may not be exactly what one can call "convenient", but its way more frustrating if cheaters can do their job and have advantage to those who do not cheat. It is retarded to think server hopping can be stopped without any inconvenience to legit players (this is how it is... always and forever). How many cheaters use Alt-F4? How many times does power-loss occur?1000:1? The one loosing power is simply the one to bite the dust. Next day he will be more lucky. So... yes, this does mean you deserve to be at risk.

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

Rocket, I don't understand that. I would not mind to be forced to go somewhere safe (I do so anyways and my fellows as well -> go to forest, search safe place -> log out), wait for log-off lets say 2 or 3 Minutes without beeing allowed to move (otherwise logOff counter is disabled). This would fix most of the issues (Player dc while fighting and server hopping as well). If a player is killing the app (Alt-F4), the progress done the last 15-30 minutes is lost. By implementing that there should be 90% of current abuse made impossible or too inconvenient for cheaters.Of course this is not perfect as well, but still better than letting some honks destroy PvP of Dayz by using every exploit possible.

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

Again spent some time in Dayz. My experience: You ***can*** go at night, Zombies won't spot you that easy, but still they aggro more than in earlier releases. Take a walk at daylight will soon make every Zombie in radius 100m around you spot/detect you. If you are lone wolf player, this makes it extremely hard to get equipped. I killed some Zombies with the hatchet and -so far- I got no broken bones. So it seems like this issue is fixed for now. The Zombie spawning seems pretty broken to me. I ran around with 3 other guys and we were looting the military tents in Stary Sobor (again at night) and one Zombie did respawn in a tent one of my pals was in. The Zombie attacked him immediatly. 2 Minutes later I saw a Zombie respawning in the tent oposite to the one I was in at that moment but he despawned 2 seconds later. We decided to finish our looting and move on as it really seemed not to be safe. BTW I think Zombies should not respawn that fast. If you cleaned out a place, Zombies should not respawn within at least 5 Minutes. And I hope that the entire Zombie population of a town does not respawn at once, but each one after the other (perhaps one each minute). You should at least be able to withdraw from a previously cleaned out place in a pretty much safe way.

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

1.7.2. took away my primary weapon, but ok, not a big deal. I think it is much more annoying that Zombies will spot you that easy. Kept crouching around a small town north of Gorka yesterday. There was just one or two lootable buildings in it. Around the city in the fields (approx. 400m x 150m) I have counted up to 20 Zombies, I dont know how much Zombies have been on the other sides of this town. Together with the fact that a zombie now can spot you within a range of ... I guess 100 meters or more this town can no longer be approached if you are a single player. Even if you were 2 or 3 guys... this will be a hard job and a waste of ammo that most likely will not pay off. Deer Stands seem to be guarded by 3 Zombies as it was before, so no increase in Zombie count here, but the Zombies can easily spot you if they turn to you. If you dont want to risk broken bones, you have to shoot them and dont use hatchet (which was a favourite weapon for me before). I was spotted several times and lost blood several times, luckily I got no broken legs, so I could at least recover by hunting. I dont know, if this level of difficulty can keep me playing much much longer. I will try to group with my pals, but I think if I play as lone wolf (half the time I do so), they will sooner or later get me (... sooner I think) and I dont want to imagine how hard it will be to get equipped again starting at the beach. I know about rockets intention to make the game "hard" and in principle I agree with that. I completely dislike linear designed shooters. And I don't remember which game was the last to really challenge me before Dayz came out. I also know rocket states that he did not think about fun at all when doing the mod. My first impression is that this patch did not make me want more of that... no matter if you call it "fun" or "survival".

    Disconnecting to avoid death

The Log off should simply last some time. The counter goes down from 30secs... or 45secs, where the player is not allowed to move (or shoot). If he does, logging off is aborted. Of course, one may accomplish to do nothing during a shoot-out for that time, but I doubt that this will work out more often than it does not. If someone had to loose some loot at that point he will choose whatever is more safe (at the moment one chooses to log off, because it is easy and safe to do so). Server- hopping should be addressed server-sided I think. If a player logs off from a server and logs on again somewhere else, thats ok. But if he does this several times (successful!! -> if player is in game and did already move), simply lock the loggon for 5 Minutes (first repeated hopping), 10Minutes (second repeated hopping), 20Minutes (third repeated hopping)... ... ... . I think this would fix 98% of the issues and I would be quite pleased with that. Remember... life is not always fair.

who wants the spawn weapon back

Meanwhile, this does not make a difference for me. But obviously for ohter players it is. So make this a player decision and threads like this will be gone. Nobody can implement this "the right way", there will always be people wanting it this or the other way and you should (as a developer) at least keep an eye on growing the comunity (and all that supa-dupa-hard-core-gamers-need-nothing-at-all-survivors should agree with that because this adds attention to the game by more people so it is less likely this mod will be dumped soon again). It is a fact that people new to the game are more likely frustrated if they can not defend themselves and perhaps will leave without beeing introduced to Dayz (and later on turning to a fan :D ). If you are dead and respawn, you choose if you want to play as a man or a woman anyways. ==> Simply add an option to choose, whether you want to do an "easy" start with Mak, "medium" (as it is atm with little supplies) or the "hard" way with nothing at all and everybody will be pleased.

Petition to spawn with a weapon!

Why not simply leave the choice to the player? Everytime you die you are asked if you are male or female. You just could ask in addition, if he wants to start the easy way (with gun) or the hard way (no gun). You could even implement a medium difficult start with adding the option to start with a crowbar. I started some times now and if you are new to the game, it could discourage you and you could think "why not waste my time with sth else". Small mods like this should be easy accessible for new players and for this beeing an Arma2 Mod, this game has enough bugs that yell in your face "Piss off!" (just think about picking up sth). For me (after starting several times from new) it is no big deal to start without a weapon. But perhaps for a new player it is not (who might become fan later on, if he gets a chance to get familiar with Dayz). If you leave it as it is, we wont gain as much new players as if we would gain with an "easy" start. It should be good for us all, if we gain more players. More players is more money for the devs. But if we implement an easy start, hardcore players may tend play sth. else (again: the community looses). You cannot do it right, except if you implement a players choice on this option. So I clearly vote for "let the player decide".
  16. Hi there, playing alone for some time now but consider me as a noob. Perhaps I am Grandpa here (39 years). Beeing thaaaaaaat old it is quite hard to find RL friends that can be convinced to play video game with scary things in it like zooooooooooooombiiiiieees! Well, I am located in Germany but I think if you as a team mate speak english, it is ok. I would use teamspeak for direct chat (should work?) but we can also text/ chat with ingame client. I prefer playing on vet servers (no HUD), daytime/ nightime does not matter to me, I think I like daytime. Gameplay: I try avoid battles, I dont like to shoot other players (never did up to now). If I spot other players, I check out their intentions, watch them play and avoid them if possible. I try not to get noticed by Zombies and sneak around mostly undetected by them. I am looking for a European Team Mate only for ping matters and for meeting times (otherwise would play with everybody around the world :) ). As I am working all day, I only can play in the evening (earliest start at 20:00) perhaps for 2 Hours. On weekends I may also have some time now and then. If you like to team up, write pm to me.

    The Life of Four

Interesting read. I think I play much more risky (creeping around in PvP areas, larger towns, Zombie howl does not keep me from entering a building), but similar regarding avoiding PvP contact if possible. I do not have an ingame- map yet. But together with Arma2, there was a Paper- map that shows me the landscape and towns. In that map I do not identify any deerstands. Does the ingame map show them or do you use a modified map found somewhere in www?

Im not going to be the good guy anymore

@BeSerious: I disagree with your opinion to go north as soon as one found some drink and food. It did not work out for me at least. More than drink and food you need the tools to have drink and food if heading north. So you need matches (very rare to find), the hunting knife (rare) and a hatchet (easy to find). To be able to drink from water resources you need at least one cabinet (I think quite hard to find for such a basic item, same like matches wich should be quite common as well). If you got these items it is inevitable to find any weapon while trying to complete the list. I always found at least some enfields, sometimes winchester, dual barrel shotgun or AK. Also you sometimes find sidearms (in my opinion harder to find than rifles). I always have the hardest time to find a bigger backpack. Okay, I already found some, but never accomplished to get it equipped! The Alice pack in front of me... everything under it taken away... the shitty "take Alice pack" option wont show up. Once it showed up and I tried to safe my loot from my coyote pack... after I did so, the take alice pack option was no longer available :dodgy: this is really annoying. Now, if I will find my next bigger backpack I will give a damn what loot is inside my coyote backpack, I will take it as soon the option pops up and I advice everybody to do the same. Any loot (except for morphine) is quite easy to replace, but finding a bigger backpack (and having it equipped) is not that easy.
  19. Looter (DayZ)

    Maybe I just suck...

Starting from new can be frustrating in deed. But for sure it is not impossible. Playing 90 mins is not long at all, so just have more patience. If you die multiple times in 90 mins, you definitly do something wrong. There are posts stating "if you dont have a weapon within first 5 min, you are doing sth. wrong". I disagree. It depends on your skill and on the way you play the game. I normally do things really slow in the game. Zombies are not the threat of Dayz... other players are. You can quite easily go past Zombies. Be aware that go prone is only half the deal... if I want to get safe past a Zombie, I go prone and go slow (short click mouse when go prone fast to switch to slow prone mode) and prefer walking in grass rather than walking on the street or on gravel (louder). If Zombie is facing to you without noticing you yet... go backwards slow, perhaps go crouch and avoid him. Of course it takes you longer to get you anywhere, but for me... this works out fine. I dont like spoilers (such as HUD display, Loot Maps and so on), but if you are really desperated... use them to make starting up easier. In general, looting a barn or a deerstand is much easier. There are also big halls in harbors, that may be easier for you as zombies move quite slow in buildings (you can easily outrun them).

Memoirs of a broken man (very long read)

Man... you wrote quite a lot. No replies so far? Strange because its nice to read! I also do avoid players or rather help them instead of killing on sight. Never killed a player up to now. Might be because I am pretty new to the business. Unfortunately I have no RL friends that will join me at Dayz, so I have to walk alone. By doing so, my stories will never be that interesting. Nice story... if you update again, I will take some time and read it again. Good look for you and your pal.

Im not going to be the good guy anymore

Still friendly here. Had some chances to kill other players but did not take advantage and simply let them go (I think none of them was aware to be in scope). I think it is funny to watch other players' movements. Running from Zombies for example always looks funny. Helped one player out as well. The player intended to loot a deer stand but was unable to come around the zombies and aggroed them finally. Obviously had no weapon. I shot the zombies and moved on (good luck unknown playa :D ).
