Our Chicago provider had smoke alarms go off in the datacenter so all Chicago servers are offline for the next 1-2 hours. We apologize for the inconvenience. We are by far the easiest DayZ hosting company to use - not even disputable, and if you want to run an unmodified, mostly stock server it is extremely easy. You just order it, change a couple options, and everything just works. You can place vehicles, move players, manage inventories, etc. through the easy to use control panel. There is a beginner's guide on our wiki that explains every feature of the control panel in depth and some basic server administration stuff. If you want to add a lot of modifications (scripts like self blood bags, lifting, AI, custom loading screens, whatever) then that is on you to figure out, we don't offer much support when it comes to custom mods like that. We have a pretty active community on IRC and the hive.dayz.st forums that are very helpful, and a few people that lurk in the chat room that you can pay (usually around $30) to customize and install complex mods. Our official support won't assist you if you intend to make custom modifications like that. There are also a few articles on our wiki that cover making modifications. Did you check the 'draggable' option at the bottom of the map?

Not currently, the CPU's in those machines aren't designed to handle more than 50 players. We are considering offering dedicated servers at Chicago or Los Angeles in the near(ish) future. Unless you want to pay full price for one (like $250-ish for 4-6 DayZ servers), then we could probably work something out.

Now that we've finally got a handle on the stupid DDoS problems we've had some time to actually work on new features. Today I'm happy to announce a couple new features, Live map tool updates! - Now any changes you make using the web map tool will now happen in-game immediately without requiring a server restart. Below are some examples of this. Spawning and deleting vehicles: http://i.imgur.com/8ss1Iwf.jpg http://i.imgur.com/5NF8dMf.jpg Editing player inventories: http://i.imgur.com/l1EkwWy.jpg http://i.imgur.com/OmNW37H.jpg Healing players: http://i.imgur.com/DMrZL54.jpg Repairing and refueling vehicles: http://i.imgur.com/Ltkzlnf.jpg And also announcing the ability to teleport players and vehicles. Simply click and drag a player or vehicle on the map tool to the desired destination and they will be teleported ingame. There are some caveats: These changes require you to revert to default pbo's to enable. You can see the changes we made if you extract the default pbo and compare them. We will post a writeup on exactly what's changed in the wiki later. It only works on DayZ 1.8 and DayZ Epoch right now, we are working on adding additional maps - Overwatch will be next.Anytime you perform an admin action on the map there will be a global message in-game telling everyone what action was performed - this is to combat admin abuse. We hope to be bringing you guys more new features in the near future since we finally have some free time to work on other things.

HOW COME MY PROVIDER ISNT UPDATING TO 1.8?
ersan replied to piffaroni's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yes, the rest of us have. I believe DayzPriv is in charge of DayzCC since the original developer quit. If you're talking about DayzPriv and they still don't have 1.8 they probably don't have anyone on staff that actually knows how to update it. If DayzPriv is telling you they're waiting on someone else to update DayzCC it just isn't true - they're in charge of DayzCC now. http://dayzcc.tk/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=4161&pageNo=1 -
Our LA host (Black Lotus) told us they acquired a company in Ashburn recently so they are going to do hosting there. They also said it won't be for 1-2 quarters, so not for 3-6 months unfortunately. Chicago gets generally great pings to the east coast compared to DC: http://i.imgur.com/fnOf39U.png We'll definitely add Ashburn as soon as it is available. Also Epoch 1.0.2.3 is being deployed now and will be complete within the next 2 hours. EDIT: Epoch 1.0.2.3 complete.

More cores means you can host more server instances on the same machine. It's basically like having two e3-1245's glued together, allowing you to host twice as many servers on the same machine. It will not make your single server any faster because Arma2 is not multi-threaded and each instance is constrained to one CPU core.

DayZ 1.8 is now available under 'mods' in your control panel. Be aware that your custom 1.7.7.1 pbo's will NOT work on 1.8, and your BattlEye filters probably won't either. Epoch will come a bit later, we were waiting on them to fix the trader bugs in the new version but they haven't yet. Washington DC still on track to be moved to Chicago tomorrow, and Dallas on Tuesday. There will also be general availability for transfers and new orders on Tuesday.

Yep plenty of space in Chicago from the get-go. And yeah we've seen the epoch patch, we'll probably do it at the same time as 1.8. We've also decided to offer 1.8 as an OPTION instead of forcing everyone to update. When it is available it will be available under 'mods' for Chernarus. I've been told that they removed a lot of the code from the mission and server pbo's and placed it inside the dayz_code.pbo where it is inaccessible and immutable, making 1.8 much more difficult to add customizations (self blood bags, tow scripts, etc) to, so we're going to continue offering 1.7.7.1 as well as 1.8 for the time being.

I'm waiting on a call back from Chicago about how soon they can have things setup - they said they'd be calling me 2 hours from now. They said they have all of the machines in stock currently so optimistically I'm hoping for tomorrow, but I'll post when I have more information. I'm setting up some new servers in Los Angeles right now because it filled up. As for 1.8, we had it working in a test environment before all of this DDoS nonesense happened, just with a lot of features disabled. It will likely take longer to support than other patches because it has some significant changes, I hope to have it available by this weekend depending on how the Chicago move goes.

Okay we finally got word about what is going to happen. Softlayer is forcing us to close all of our servers in Washington DC and Dallas due to 'excessive' DDoS attacks. We have struck a deal with a DDoS-specialized hosting company in Chicago, and we intend to move all Washington DC and Dallas servers to the Chicago location as soon as humanly possible (ideally by today or tomorrow but I don't have information on that yet). This will unfortunately mean that servers will lose their IP and ports to be moved to the new location. This is regrettable but unavoidable. Any files that were uploaded via FTP to your server (BattlEye filters or additional PBO's) will be lost in the transition, all other settings are intact. We had intended to offer Chicago as an additional option sometime in late October/early November but we have no choice but to ramp it up to this week. Here is a chart I made that shows pings from various locations and explains why we ultimately decided against using Dallas and BHS/Vancouver (besides the fact that they don't have 'guaranteed' ddos protection): http://i.imgur.com/fnOf39U.png We will now be offering servers at two of the three most trusted DDoS-protected providers in the US (Black Lotus and GigeNET, Staminus is the other one but they are also in Los Angeles). We are very happy and proud to be able to do this at the current prices, generally good DDoS protection is upwards of a thousand dollars a month per server. Unfortunately there aren't options like this in Europe, but London has basic DDoS protection that seems to hold up pretty well. We will be doing something similar for servers hosted in Amsterdam, they will either be moved to our current location in London or a new location in France - I'll make a decision on that later but right now we're just trying to get Dallas and DC handled. For anyone considering using Softlayer as a host in the future - don't. Someone can take down your entire infrastructure with a 10-zombie botnet using DNS reflection.

Best to send an e-mail to support (admin@dayz.st) - haven't heard of anyone else having a problem like that. It generally means your server has a ghost process and is running twice and the ghost needs to be killed. Often times these problems are resolved on their own automatically within a few hours but if it persists contact support, they can help.

We are working on making arrangements in Dallas for better protection than we currently have (but not something we would advertise as 'ddos protected') - that could be available as soon as this week, and are working on a Chicago location with full protection. Chicago was scheduled to be available sometime in November, but we may have to ramp up this timeframe significantly due to the situation we are currently in with Softlayer. We also have a prospect in Ashburn, VA - but that won't be for at least 3 months. With the state we are currently in (all servers in Dallas and Washington DC are currently nullrouted due to daily DDoS attacks) we may end up having to change everyone's IP's in those locations anyway. We believe Softlayer intends to terminate our contract with them, but we won't know until Monday. It's been a pretty bad week for us, these non-stop attacks are making things very difficult.

Hive error: Unknown internal error
ersan replied to liukang168's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
FWIW we'd love to host the public hive, we can do things like geographic anycasting, replication, and we have lots of hardware resources (SSD's, very fast processors) to ensure low latency and 100% uptime for all servers regardless of where they are in the world - as well as very serious DDoS protection - instead of running it off of one server at some random datacenter in California like it is now. We've been hosting a geographically distributed hive that supports significantly more servers than the public hive does for some time now. (2000 vs 400 official servers) We can also help automate or staff the approval of official instance ID's, which haven't been staffed for many months now. Additionally, we can write a new support portal for managing and requesting new official instance ID's (instead of the weird WHMCS thing they have now), start responding to (or automate) reporting of admin abuse on official servers again, and I personally have many other ideas to improve the official hive and get more people interested in hosting/playing the game again. Let us know if we can help.
