With all these recent changes, the developers are taking some realistic and unrealistic routes to allow the game to be more enjoyable. Though it is true certain foods can speed the process of blood gain faster, to have them as a lottery ticket seems absolutely absurd. To code in the disadvantage of being unable to eat food for a certain period of time doesn't exactly make a whole lot of sense. I don't know any point in time where I take out a can of a beans, open it up, pour it in a bowl, and try to eat it, then some autonomous voice in my head says "You cannot eat, cause you just ate a TWIX bar 4 minutes ago." The changes show good, realistic ideas. They are however implemented in a form that basically prohibits the player in an unrealistic and certainly not human way.

You might have deleted DayZ's system32... HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA But on a serious note, be sure to fully update all of your DayZ files (best done manually to ensure proper work) and to run Arma II and Operation Arrowhead, turning on the DayZ files in the expansions section when you get in.

I actually would rather have a zombie as a pet. I would name him "Chompy". I would put a metal Bane mask around his mouth to prevent infection. I would train him to do humane things, such as read a book, speak with people, and watch the newest season of Walking Dead. His diet would be with average protein foods. Fish, meat (and maybe human flesh if he is good), along with a more healthy diet of veggies and drinks. He would be humanity's first step in the new found zombie therapy...

Would DayZ exist without The Walking Dead?
smore98 replied to Nefarious (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Perhaps if the "zombie-survival" genre been done to the extent of which it become monotonous and repetitive, DayZ may not have been such a popular game, and may have even been cast-aside. However, DayZ actually put the the word "survival" from zombie-survival games into play, and has become one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2012 because of it. It was a rather fresh idea, and what previous companies did to suit this fulfillment left off with mediocere games, and the best example of the genre back them would have been the rouge-like "Cataclysm". I doubt The Walking Dead had much to do with the revival of the survival genre, but the popularity of DayZ and The Walking Dead make have spawned the long-awaited "Zombie-Apocalypse-Survival-Simulator". -
Does sidechat ruin anyone elses game?
smore98 replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Unless you have a radio with sattelite connection, and EVERYONE else has a radio connected to the same sattelite, THEN I might feel legit in playing the game. When I see people on side-chat say where they are at, I just face-palm... -
Erm... ...you did keep up with the website's stats, right? I think 1.5 million players is quite active, no? :D

I suppose that clan training just represents rugged efficiency out in the field of Chenerus (or whatever map your clan is frequently using). I certainly won't bash on it, since tactics in the engine of a Realistic Military Simulator seems logical. But unlike regular Arma, some tactics used in clans seem lengthy and are more likely to get you killed. To send an entire group into Cherno and having them killed by a snipe squad would be a waste of resources and time. I would go for the basics, send out at most 2 guys to certain areas to do some looting (food/parts/vehicles/etc.), one as a guard and the other as the scavenger. It has worked phenomenally for me in the past and is by far the most basic idea you get have. Guard can have two options, sticking with the scavenger, or staying as spotter to keep an eye on the vicinity. I would recommend a DMR for the guard, or if that's unlikely, at least a Lee Enfield. If the guard prefers to keep close by the scavenger, let him have an Assault rifle, or an M14 AIM. Scavenger keeps a relativly large backpack and basic secondary (preferably a PDW). If the zone proves more threatening (eg. more players and concentration in certain areas), a basic AK would do the scavenger well.

I believe DMR is your best bet, as it excels in short-range and long range combat. The compatibility with NVG's make it the best Night Sniper. It's cartridge gives it the title of "Battle Rifle", along with it's semi-auto fire. Ammo is very common to find unlike several other snipers. You might as well make it your new AS50...

Being a Lone wolf, you should consider it.
smore98 replied to mitor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have gone with the lone-wolf tactic mostly, and it has led to less frustration (no offense to those who I play with...). I have kept my involvement to clans to a mercenary level, where I can do what they require, but go back to the original stand-point. Clans have their benefits, perks, and overall superiority, but the lone-wolf style keeps the game going, having the experience of what DayZ is. I simply stand as a benefactor to those who need me... -
After staring at the first 3 replies profile images... Personal hygiene would be more of a hunting implementation rather than a hinderance within the game, as I would love to see animals have some sort of AI that actually works and doesn't make them stand around while you blast them in a PDW.

Zombie instances (Walking Dead Prison experience)....
smore98 replied to WalBanger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This ability was loosely implemented into the game in the use of wire fencing and sandbags (the former of which was later used to block loot spots and just be a nuisance and the latter being unbelievably rare that you would have better luck finding rocket in-game). Both are presented useless other than making small bases against players, and you are going to need quite a bit of fencing if you are going to pull off a camp in the middle of the woods. I know Balota Buddies have themselves small bases they implemented in their UK server have pre-made bases that you can capture and hold from players if you wish. Never found any yet, but I had recently gotten back into the game and now having another go. Regarding topic clarity, isn't this a suggestion? -
First Wave Of Standalone Keys Limited To 50.000?
smore98 replied to butter_milch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am aware that some mods on the forums are going to do some testing with the game, but I can wait till the actual game comes out. I just hope this won't turn into some storm of asking every damn person that gets to test if they can get their own keys... -
You're favorate weapon in DayZ?
smore98 replied to TruckingBucket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am more old school and tend to stick with practical zombie gear, most preferably a Makarov and Winchester. But if server is populated with clan members, I will have to get the upper hand with an AK and DMR. -
1.7.5 - Cows will now run for their lives

Great, cooked meat is gonna become the lottery of blood. You wanna hit or fold, guys? -
My least favourite part about Dayz is the Zombies.
smore98 replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So... What you are saying is the most difficult thing about the game is zombies... ...isn't that the entire point of a post-apocalyptic survival zombie game, for the zombies to be a THREAT? -
Private servers are your friends :D Or better yet, develop your own mod with more weapons.

Where will you take a dump in the Standalone?

That bambi over there... -
I believe Dead Island attempted a stunt in one of their trailers... ...so much controversy over that damn game...

You must not only learn the survival aspects of DayZ, but the technical aspects as well. You must remember never to put a weapon bigger than your backpack into it, or else it will *nom nom* it. You must remember to never drive ATVs on bridges, or else the DayZ god will table-flip it over. You must never jump off a dock, because water does nothing to soften the impact to the ground. And most importantly... ...you can never simply walkthrough the debug plains. There really should be a technical zombie survival guide, as all of these things may happen in a real-life scenario!

If there is a test, wouldn't they tell us about? Also, OGFHEGUOEHGOUIQHGUOQEGUOQEGUOQ GRAVEYARD OIAGHOAIEGHQOIEGHQOI STANDALONE-CENTERED TOPIC ARRRRRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although it was removed, the Balota Buddies server appeared to have re-added it to their servers, so if you want stats on your kills and blood, you can go and get whitelisted there... But in my personal opinion, I believe it would have been nice to keep it out. The debug blocked my hearing and sight bars and made it difficult to see certain areas. I also prefer to guesstimate my blood and temperature like a value citizen, thank you very much!

What would you do in a close engagement?
smore98 replied to LilBambi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I will decide on what I would understand. Is he a bandit? Is he armed with a sniper? Will he hinder my objective of survival? Or my favorite. Do I feel like it? -
It may not be my first kill, but it is one of the oldest I know of. I was, at the time, a new player to DayZ, and didn't fully get the entire concept of the game. I traveled in the once ideally cursed city of Cherno, patrolling with a Lee Enfield strapped to my back and a M1911 sitting comfortably in my hand. I was with a buddy at the time, so I knew we weren't alone when I heard the gunshot, saw his name in the death message, which then followed by the usual curse of defeat. I wen't running as fast as I could, doing my best to avoid the shots of what I presume to be an AK. I ducked in a red residential home nearby and took my position at the end of the room-hallway. Armed with my Lee, I wait, heart beating like a drum, counting down to the moment he entered and poked his head out in the entrance door. Then... ...boom. I fired the .303 round into the guys head, proving an instant kill. I practically jumped for joy and celebrate with a delicious can of Fanta. Twas a good day, and I got my first Automatic assault rifle of DayZ. That is how the legend of the S'more began...

Hackers are practically the bandits of DayZ when it comes to public hives. Private hives are slightly more controlled, but the double-wammy would be a private-whitelisted hive. I suggest you look into Balota Buddies if you want a hacker-free experience. http://balotabuddies.net/

"141 DayZ" HOHOHOOOOOOOOH WE GOT A WISE GUY HERE ,YE SHEE? But on-topic again, I really don't care how long my character lasts. I'm sure my public hive character has been up for a while, but I don't keep track. I just focus on the after-action statistics...
