Was an ancient tale, but one worth mentioning. I was scavenging within the bowels of Cherno when the slight tapping of footsteps were heard on the outside of the streets at a nearby door. I had only a crossbow at the time, and I was unaware of it's effects. I figured it was gonna be another zombie, so I aimed my Crossbow at the door, and as soon as I saw the glimpse of something... "SWOOSH" A death message was shown below and I looked to find a bandit on the ground, holding a revolver. The blood was spurting out from the wound located in his head, right between the eyes was the bolt that I had shot. This marked my first bandit kill of the season...

I guess my job isn't done here... Private servers were a really suitable asset to the DayZ community in several different ways. They prevented the constant issue of unfair play, such as logging off one public server then logging into another. The solution also drove the way for the expansion of DayZ servers so that the regular servers can withhold so much usage. Granted, private servers do have their downsides, such as customization options that can feature extra start-up gear, 24/7 daylight, max vehicles and all the sorts, but that comes with all variants of private servers in other games as well. It's simply a newer generation of server additions, and one that has improved experiences of DayZ players since then. Also, moving towards the Balota Buddies situation, when has a single server satisfied every single possible player of DayZ? How has public hives, or private hives fully satisfied the mainstream DayZ player? Everyone has preferences, I admit, but they have to think logically if they want the better experience. Balota Buddies may not be the bestest of choices, but even if the general population were bronies, why judge it by social aspect? I think the overall experience would be the more important thing. Let's be honest here, though. When have you heard of some random player with no server authority what-so-ever advertising a server to a public forum? The main administrators or moderators for that particular server are usually the ones to advert their products.

The 1866 was never even a shotgun in the first place, it was a lever action rifle using .44 rimfire. If anything, they might have trying implement the 1887 model and mistaken it for the 1866.

If you think using the island 12km off the shore as a base is a good idea.

Or you could hold down the W key like a man. Seriously, texting while driving is a serious offense in DayZ... -
It's best to download either 6Launcher or DayZ Commander in the links available within the forums, as other sources can be harmful to your computer. But the launchers themselves are perfectly safe, but my recommendation for the best experience and preference is DayZ Commander.

I was in Panthera where I find a VTOL Osprey at the Northern Airfield. I took it out for a spin and flew it around, picking up a few people as a improvised taxi service, where they can parachute out once their destination has been reached. I was running out of fuel, and I was to lazy to go and refill it. So I crashed it into a Chinook that was flying nearby, killing me and 3 guys in the Chinook. They didn't like me after that...

What is the best DayZ map so far?
smore98 replied to Snowboarder's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Chernarus has and always will be the top map in the list of maps available for the DayZ mod. If I were to choose a runner-up, I think Lingor would be another great experience. -
Can anyone recommend a good non-white listed uk server, or worldwide
smore98 replied to richjones19772000's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ Commander holds a relatively useful filter function to find UK Private Hives. If not, other websites hold lists of private hives and what countries they are stationed in, along with the Private Hive section on these forums. -
1. Servers advertise so they can actually have people play on them. 2. To avoid hackers, you can simply join a white-listed private hive or join a PH with active admins, which usually leads to the complete avoidance of hackers or, at the very least, far less frequent meetings with them. 3. There is always the ban feature. 4. Have you seen how many people have been advertising Balota Buddies? I think my job is done here.

[MOD] Weapons Poll - Overpowered vs Underpowered - Tell me if you think a weapon should be buffed or nerfed
smore98 replied to Grimzentide's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Though it was an impressive break-through in the use of the ArmA engine to create a zombie-survival simulator, the game still has it's areas of unreasonably visible OP stakes. Military weapons are quite common throughout the DayZ experience, especially the all the Military Encampments in certain towns (most common assault rifle was the AK-47). And to what Gews said about Handguns: They are supposed to be underpowered. If the logic of zombie elimination were put into effect (brain only = zombie death), they would be used as an emergency weapon, like if you were getting attacked out of the blue by one. Best case scenario, a shot through the temple will get him off you in a jiffy. For regular players, the main fault of the handguns is not relied on their power, rather the games medical interface and how it works. If you were to perhaps get shot in the side by a .45 caliber bullet, chances are you mobility will be greatly diminished by such an open wound, especially if you were shot in the lower limb. The nerves of that certain area will immediately go into shock, which would then lead to the brains motor skills becoming relentlessly useless. Also, what I find in a CZ or M24 in what kind of damage they would do would be completely irreversible in such an environmental If you were shot 9.3x62mm caliber, you will be getting a small entry point in the front, and wide, possible a diameter of 1 foot hole in the exit wound, and that's just with a regular brass bullet. I won't go more in-depth into what I see within the medical or gun mechanics within DayZ, but by all odds, they will be improved in Standalone. -
It's been ages since I have played public, but from what what I have heard, it really hasn't improved much since my last playthrough (literally the moment I got into the server I was teleported to Skalasty Island for a Deathmatch, which I fought and won, just because.) Private, as long as proper moderation and counter-hacking measures via white-listing or pass-wording are implemented, will be the best option for a fair experience, but regular private hives also work fine.

An artist's word on the standalone pics
smore98 replied to ponc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's not a bad idea, but to be honest, in a realistic scenario, the lack of gases rising into the atmosphere due to the apocalyptic scenario would rather keep the sky in it's regular blue, cheery color. As the old saying goes, "The light can shine down on a bad day". -
Strange experience with Russian players
smore98 replied to Sula's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have had experience with several europeans, including Russian, Swedish, British, German, Finnish, Ukrainian, Portuguese, and (my heritage favorite), Polish. All show likable characteristics, but many show little to no experience or fully capable understanding of skill or communication (with a few exceptions). -
Let's be honest here... ...who WOULDN'T want to jump off a bicycle and break their neck?

Favourite background music while on DayZ
smore98 replied to philbottle's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Either the Ambiance of DayZ keeps me going, otherwise, I put up some recent songs from Bronies and Friends. If I were to choose someone mainstream, I would go through Daft Punk, The Beatles, and maybe Eurythmics. None of them match the mood, but GOD DAMN MAN, THIS IS A FREE APOCALYPSE. -
No Pepsi, Coca-Cola or Heinz in standalone
smore98 replied to SmashT's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We simply can't graveyard the beanz... ...it just DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY, MAN! Aw well, by any chance, the companies are losing the chance to get more beanz and drinks selling. This eventually could just lead every DayZ player to boycott buying any of their product. -
DayZ Standalone . Test Period .
smore98 replied to kalashinkov's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Standalone testing will eventually be out, and I am unsure if regular players will be involved in this testing. If I heard correctly, Forum Mods will be the first ones to to go and start "breaking" the game down. All I am waiting for is Standalone, whether it takes a few more months or a couple of years. -
Ghillie Suits can be found all around Chenerus, in Residential, Military, and Crash Sites. The sort of camo you wear is your own preference. If you like to stay invisible and go long range with a sniper, the Ghillie is your best friend. Camo-clothing is for a bit more stealthy assault, crawling through the forest while staying within the environment. If it does have some sort of armor boost, that's also another boost for those assault or defense situations. ...but you can always stay Vanilla with the survivor-skin.

Yes, our Czechs are free! Now we can continue the espion- I mean... developing the latest installment of the Arma series. Seriously, it is good to see these 2 guys are finally free after 4 months of imprisonment.

Putting out a fire and then...KO'ed?
smore98 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Did you lose any blood after you got knocked out? If there was sidechat, was anybody else facing the same situation? I have a solution in which you can have a buddy join your server, get an epi-pen, and tell him where you are so he can revive you. By little chance, you might have been nuked. -
This social event might be more of a conceptual idea rather than one to be used. But if it to be put into play, let's go put in the NWAF, smoke grenades around the campefire, taking potshots at zombies.

What are you playing while waiting for standalone?
smore98 replied to deathrush's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Games that pass the time, single-player and multi-player, preferably DayZ. -
In DayZ, there will always be shmucks. It will never change, no matter if the full game is out or the mod is complete. Human stupidity can not be scripted, it can only happen in random cases. Human instinct however, is an entirely different story...
-
Hm... let's mark every douchebag that this represented... 1. Shooting a practically unarmed player in the head for no reason. 2. Being an ass and talking in sidechat even though the guy is practically next to you. 3. Using YOLO as an excuse. Yep... legit gameplay there...

I've mostly been wondering what the weapon load-out will be... I have been hoping for some more civilian weaponry, because I simply enjoy playing vanilla. I found getting military load-outs quite common in my public and sometimes private hive experiences. This way, I can find a different set to go for, or find a preference. I just rather enjoy my Makarov in DayZ to go for a longer range of civilian armaments. :P
