You need to enter the pilot/drivers seat then exit the vehicle. This has worked for me so far.

They have already added swamps, nothing is preventing them from adding waterways. I would expect it be something like the rivers on panthera.

I agree with everything you are saying, but... If the DayZ Devs are going to wait to put in cars I'm sure the have good reason. When they say they "don't handle well" they could mean the steering is completely broken, could you drive that? The game will be sold at a reduced price as an alpha, for that reason. Many things will be missing and you are paying for what you are getting, an incomplete game for a reduced price.
