The number one issue my friends talk about is how the game has turned into kill on sight.
scaramoosh posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't care if dumb COD players are to blame or if it's because people have learnt the game and have no reason to make friends now. The main problem really is game design and how it just gives you no reason to not fire at someone you see because they might fire at you. The only people you tend not to kill is your friends, there is no social aspect any more really, 1 in every 10 people I meet are friendly and usually it's because they aren't geared. I personally think mechanics like name plates so you can get to know who is friendly and who isn't or even having an icon appear or several different stages of bandit skins, to show you how likely they're to fire at you. Maybe even killing hero skins or friendly players means they drop no loot..... I dunno but something has to be done to stop kill on sight. You'll always get people who want to kill everyone, that is fine, however it's gotten to the point now where 90% of the people are doing so and it just isn't fun. You get no sense of community now and it is just boring, if I wanted COD I would go and play it..... now Dayz has just turned into crap and it's because it isn't doing anything to promote not shooting on sight. I love PVP as much as the next guy, I don't cry if I get killed, death in this game has become so irrelevant, it's very easy to just get geared up again, just involves getting a lee and taking out a noob camper in one of the main cities. However it is just boring when it is always shoot on sight, I want those experiences the game used to give where you'd meet random people and team up, there is none of that now. -

I just don't enjoy the experience like what I had just now... person spawns in behind us and kills us... like wtf? Why allow players to spawn on players? Just a dumb mechanic for a start but why kill sumone who doesn't even have a bandit skin? Makes me think those Frankie videos are staged because he meets friendly people, I never do, always kill on sight. I never kill on sight, only ever speak first and then get shot... just dumb because the game gives no benefit to working together. The only grouping mechanic is blood bags and no one cares because you can just respawn and be back to where you were at max 30 mins later. -

I think map design has a lot to do with it as well, everyone is basically at Cherno or Elektro because the rest of the map is quite dull and people don't want to waste their time running to places that offer nothing else. Running to the airstrip at the top isn't worth it as half the time there is never anything worthwhile there, might as well just go to the fire stations, military tents or Balota. In the standalone they need to add like a river going through the map, a major city in the middle, spice up some of the smaller towns. It just needs more.... -
whocares if it is? patches in the past have always broke things, at least it was something that kept you playing.

Dean Hall just needs to let them do what they want with the mod, development keeps games alive, as soon as it stops everyone quits. All my friends have stopped and so have I because there is no development, even buggy patches would bring us back. I don't understand why Dean Hall wants everything to be so polished, the game didn't get popular because it was polished, it got popular because it was constantly being developed on with innovative ideas.

Yeh I bought ARMA 2 for Dayz, just like every other person I know, no one cared for ARMA 2 before Dayz. -

Taking too long, my friends have lost interest in Dayz and moved on now. The Standalone needed to be released a long time ago and just patch it as new things come like when Dayz was released. Patches are the fun part, constant change keeps you playing, no one I know plays Dayz anymore cause nothing of any worth has been added since last year. -
Zombies need to be slowed down, they need to stop running so erratically and they need their animations fixed so you can tell if they're hitting your or not. Right now they're annoying, they aren't fun and the slightest shot attracts endless numbers of zombies which is annoying. You often feel cheated as well, you can be sneaking and doing everything right and suddenly a zombie from a mile away comes running towards. It's the like I'm going to run through a bush or a building to lose them because shooting them isn't fun or possible unless they slow down and animate right. There is nothing worse than the zombie standing like 5ft away and suddenly hitting you and it's like WTF? The animation either doesn't happen or it launches them forward and it doesn't even look like they hit you. I just think throw more zombies in, slow them down so they ain't Usain Bolt until the animations are fixed. Right now I think they're the worst part of the game, along with the building interiors. See the problem with speeding them up inside buildings will be you cannot interact with anything, like you cannot close doors for example. so running into a building in real life would be effective, you could just close the door and sneak out of a window. In dayz if they were faster it would be running into a dead end, you cannot protect yourself and you'll have an endless stream of spawning zombies. You need to have more interaction with the world, some buildings let you close doors, however the zombies walk right through them which is dumb and you have these big open windows and you cannot vault out of them.... Really the game needs jump tbh, it would be a simpler way of letting you do more. I don't see why there isn't a jump, I mean humans are pretty nimble, they ain't glued to the ground.

God this patch is taking forever, what do they have like 1 person working on it or something?

I still think instanced bases is the worst thing you could do to Dayz.
scaramoosh posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love Dayz for being seamless and open world, it's what makes it good, everyone sharing the same space. The worst thing you could ever do to Dayz is having all these loading screens and giving people their own space because all that happens then is everyone ends up in their own bases underground and not in the world. I'm also against these types of games that aren't seamless, I cannot play an MMO that isn't like that and that is why I haven't played one since 2005. You'll end up with what happened To EQ2 for example, no one is in the world anymore, they're all in some instance somewhere, the same happened to WoW where you might as well not have a world. I know that's to the extreme, I'm just dead against the whole idea and think as soon as it makes its way in, I'll be gone. Dayz Origins is doing something far more interesting, I know it's a basic start but it's way better than the little effort Dean Hall put in before giving up and focusing on SA. I mean putting sandbags and barbed wire that was broken and had no restrictions was hardly a good indicator to go by on world building. It's easy to just say, you cannot build within a certain distance of things like the premade towns, but also doing something more than something that served no purpose and zombies could just walk right through. It works for Skyrim because it is a Single Player game, it has no impact on world population, this could just be a waste of time and a disaster for Dayz. -
Will Snipers Be Removed Or At Least Tweaked In S.A?

I don't see a problem with them... -
What do you do when you keep getting this? Haven't been able to play all day, just does this, gets to like 30 and then disconnects me :\

Clip combining sucks, it means now you don't have to be careful about reloading anymore. Also watermarks suck, I don't want it clogging up my screen, I mean you're wanting to take away the UI and now adding this shit in?

Anyone else worried about locking down graphical options to the server in SA?
scaramoosh posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't like stuff like post processing, I don't like FXAA or any other kinds of AA that isn't MSAA and I don't like bloom or HDR or fog. I mean I hate it enough how Dayz puts so much fog everywhere, like seriously it makes the game look really ugly. I hate how I have to be forced into HDR now too, it makes the game look worse and causes so many issues when in forests in the game. I just wanna be able to turn all the shit off that I hate, I don't want servers telling me what I can and cannot have. -

scaramoosh replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only thing I don't get though is why they're going CPU heavy, surely it makes more sense to go GPU heavy like a BF3 or Crysis 3. Those games barely take a toll on your CPU, they just kill your GPU and as a result they look amazing and run amazing. Surely the GPU can handle a lot of the tasks they have running on the CPU, GPUs are like 100 times more powerful than the CPUs we have. I just don't see where toll on the CPU is coming from either though tbh, there isn't a lot happening. More is happening in a game of BF3 for example with 64 players and all the destruction and the map that is rendered at any one time is probably about the same size as what you can see in Dayz. I just think the engine is poorly made. -

I don't like the really OP ones which tell you where people are like wall hacks. I don't see a problem with them though, they're a goal to work towards, I think rifles like the CZ are perfectly balanced. -
Rocket: Console version almost certain
scaramoosh replied to Marvel (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Every time developers say "it wont impact the PC version" and it does, it always does. Suddenly patching is slower (especially with the small Dayz team) and things get changed so they can work with the consoles. Otherwise the developers start moaning about having to treat both versions differently and it taking more time for patching. It'll just be the worst thing ever, before you know it, there wont be dedicated servers, everyone will be bunny hopping, there will be quick knives, leader boards and you wont lose your stuff when you die and there will be some map that shows you where everything is. I don't want instances as it is, they're fine for Skyrim, however for a multiplayer game. It'll end up like EQ2 there where the whole world is dead because everyone is in their own instance they created. Like why can't player bases work? I don't think any kind of building would work well in the default Dayz, however that doesn't stop for the option of having a different map built for it in a different mode. At this rate I'll just end up sticking to the Mod. -

My experience is I always spawn near Cherno or Elekctro, I never spawn up north. -
I just think stop giving dates. Don't say "it has to be out before the end of the year" and then miss the end of the year and then give another month and then miss that and then give another month that you'll probably release nowhere near too. It just creates frustration, just say it'll be done when it's done, though not any time soon and say nothing until you're ready to release. People get bored of trickled information, it ends up just tiring people people out, so when it does release, people just don't care any more. We always see this backlash happen, even Bioshock Infinite started to piss people off with years of them going on about the game. We follow the gaming news as gamers, after hearing about it time and time again, it does make you bored.

Standalone in June what do you think?
scaramoosh replied to law1977's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I personally think they've missed the boat on this one, it needed to be launched months ago and now they're going to fight for everyone's time with all the major releases. Also though talking to friends most of them say they don't care any more, they were into Dayz last year and just have no interest in it now. I'm feeling the same way but I know I'll still play it, I'm just bored of the mod, I was bored of it in Sept of last year and have been waiting for SA ever since. I think just release Alpha on Steam forums and let people host their own private hives. I'd love to play a game with lots of development going on, Early Access makes it obvious to people what they're buying and seems to be working well on Steam right now. Knowing it probably wont even make June and will be pushed back, I dunno I'm losing my patience. I wouldn't have cared if they didn't announce it last year, just feels like we've been led on for far too long. I'm just gonna cut off all ties at this point from Dayz and maybe I'll still be interested when it eventually comes out. At this point it better be fucking amazing and have so much changed so that it doesn't just feel like a tweaked Dayz mod or I'll be disappointed. -
Surely Dean can just release Dayz SA on Early Access?
scaramoosh posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Then people buying it wont moan about it not being complete, that whole concept is about buying Alphas. Getting bored of waiting for SA already, I tried going back to the mod but it's so boring with no development, the whole thing that made it fun in the beginning was the constant updates and new content. -

It's my evil master plan, moan and moan and moan along with the rest of the people until Dean gets pissed off and cancels Dayz SA, then Warz will take over! -

scaramoosh replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There isn't, there really isn't. That is why everyone went to custom maps, however IMO they all feel fake and suck, I hate Tavania, it is too big and it's all walls, constantly running around walls because they haven't put holes in them to compensate for the non ability to vault over. Chernarus is really, the coast, the airfield and everything in the middle is boring. It really needs a river going through, with bridges and another major city in the middle to get people to explore the map. Also zombies are not fun on the mod, they just glitch out all over the place, they animate badly so they hit you from like 10ft away and that isn't visually represented. They run too fast and zig n zag all over the place making them impossible to hit. So that is why you drag them into a building or go into a tree to make them manageable. They'd be much better slowing them down, putting more of them on the map and making them head shot only. Just make them fun...
