This is because double-barrel shotguns, while cool and very post-apoc chic, are extremely ineffective compared to any other weapons one might find, and they will therefore be the kind of weapon one picks up only because there's nothing else. They're nice flavor items.. but once people start to get geared up they will unfortunately not see much use. Pump-action and semi-auto shotguns might actually have a place as primary weapons, though. Especially in cities, and with good amounts of both buckshot and slugs. The exception would be if you added a hacksaw, the possibility to use it to 'craft' sawn-off shotguns, and make the sawn-off take four slots like the handguns do. It would be attractive to carry around a small shotgun for urban use in addition to a rifle for use in the woods and fields.

Sweet! Might as well close it if the tendency is clear after 3k responses. I'm anxious to see what the community actually thinks (not just the squeaky wheels that post).

Yes, it's working. Thanks to the ever-present population of snipers in cities, places like Cherno are littered with bodies full of goodies if you feel like risking running into the sniper's crosshairs. I've had good luck looting both Mosins, M4s and full backpacks and clothes off people who died in this fashion.

"OooOOhh" - "That hurts..." Player groaning

This is a bug. DayZ characters will keep making the pain sounds even after being healed. If you log out and back in again once you're healed, your guy will stop making the sounds. -
How to authentically strike the right balance of PvP in DayZ SA.

Did you not know the bandit skins were removed after a very short while because they ruined immersion, were profoundly silly and not even slightly in line with the idea of a hardcore survival game? -
How to authentically strike the right balance of PvP in DayZ SA.
wartzilla replied to Zeds_Undead_baby's topic in General Discussion
I don't like the PVE solution. I believe games like DayZ thrive on human interaction, and not PvE content. PvP should be 'balanced' by adding more ways to interact in-game than shooting. As pretty much everyone has seen first-hand so far, the first implementation is working very well. That is to say.. Restraints, robbing people, forcing them to consume inedible items, or taking their blood. Personally, even though I am all for shooting anyone and everyone you see as a legitimate way to play this game, we've always let people go after doing this. It's more fun that way. Adding more things like this would make people even more likely to try to 'take people' alive. How about being able to cut off people's ears, toes, or fingers, Diablo-style? Personally I'd love to get an ear collection going. Let me display it around my neck. Make it so ears from corpses are degraded, and if the corpse was killed by a headshot, completely ruined. That way people whose grim inclinations drive them towards hunting people today might be tempted to try to capture people alive instead. No guarantees they'll leave the people alive afterward, but going by our own experience I think many would. -
In my opinion, the current compass is an example of over-design.
wartzilla replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in General Discussion
I think it's fine, maybe adjust the viewmodel a little so it can actually be held up while jogging. Personally I don't even bother picking up compasses any more, I'd rather navigate based on scenery and landmarks. In the mod it was a nobrainer since it took up an otherwise useless tool slot. It's really done wonders for the UI as well, in my opinion. -
Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113925 M4 Gone?
wartzilla replied to Kit - Alpha Six's topic in General Discussion
I guess you never played the mod where finding valuable things was actually a find instead of being a matter of course? It really made the game what it was. Making loot rare is a cornerstone of DayZ. Go ahead and get guns and kill people still. Now, it'll take longer and thus the people you kill will have more effort put in them, and you will be risking more effort yourself by going out there. If that doesn't improve the game for you, maybe it's the wrong kind of game for you. Also, stop whining. Come back in a year when the game is actually beta or released if you want to just whine. -
I'm surprised there are still people who haven't figured out that you need to eat and drink until you get the 'full' message. It's like filling your gas tank just to the point where the 'emergency' light stops glowing, and complaining about the poor gas mileage. Once you figure out that you need to eat and drink way more than just until the notification goes away, thirst and hunger is not an issue at all, perfectly manageable.

I see some people are using the bug tracker for suggested features. I also see there's no suggestions subforum for the SA. Are we supposed to use it like that, or will I just be clogging it with junk if I post suggestions on it?

The Desert Eagle is a terribly unwieldy, heavy pistol with a low capacity, rare ammunition, horrible recoil, and generally a gimmick. It's also rare. I would be for adding it as a gimmick if the ammunition was more rare than hen's teeth, anything else would not make sense. Since it's also mostly pointless I would only support it once the game is stable and we have a full arsenal of Guns That Make Sense already.

Attn: Dev's, Give us a break to help u test the game

Shame everything is gone shortly after server startup! -
Staying at the coast seems hopeless to me. Every time I spawn every single house is completely devoid of stuff, and there's no zombies either, which implies someone's been there, shot everything and taken everything. It seems the best tactic is to hope for a good spawn and then run inland as far away from anywhere anyone would want to go and hope there's still some loot left over from the last server restart. I don't get why they would remove the loot spawn mechanic entirely while refining it.

Hoping that the nature of a sandbox PVP game will change due to {{reason uncited}} is pretty tearful.
-
Uh, yeah? That's the nature of the game. Stop being crybabies and embrace the sandbox.

Hey guys, We're some friends that have reinstalled after not playing since last summer. I got in just fine, in the exact same location I was in, with my stuff. (impressive!) My friend, however, is getting kicked upon logging in from every server he logs onto, including the one I tried. We're both using DayZCommander to update and install stuff, both on the same version, so this is very odd. Pointers?

Reinstalled recently - getting kicked
wartzilla replied to wartzilla's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
It just says 'you have been kicked' which I think we can all agree is an utterly useless kick message. -
Hey guys. I haven't played this game since July. The DayZ wiki is unfortunately woefully out of date, being many, many versions behind and having basically no new content beyond what I remember. Is there some way to summarise the big changes and fixes that have happened since then? Anyone got any good links? Or, you know, if anyone feels like telling me that would be lovely.

Private server is one thing, but I don't want to play on modded servers or modded maps. I wouldn't mind playing on a private server, but it would have to be one that's a) just as active as a public server and b ) isn't admin'd by whining carebears who ban people for shooting other players.
-
Yeah, I did choose to return to the game due to the new patch rolling around.. I'm just worried about having missed all the stuff from the *previous* patches. Also, I don't want to play on 'private hives' or 'custom maps' or any of that nonsense. Gives off a bad taste in my mouth.
-
It's pretty much pointless to do this before the exploiting and hacking is fixed -- that is to say, before the standalone. Unless they actually fixed this without breaking Arma 2. Resetting the hive at this point will only serve to reset legitimate players, while hackers and exploiters will have even more of a field day slaughtering those who prefer getting items the way it's intended. tl;dr yes but only if exploiting and hacking is fixed. Duping is easily disabled by adding a disconnect timer, but hacking? Somehow I doubt that will be fixed before the standalone.

New items/tools: poncho, and barometer/weather station
wartzilla posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hey guys, Yeah, it's rained two days in a row in my game, in case you didn't guess! I don't mind, but it gave me a few ideas for situation-specific items that would be kinda cool. The poncho, a clothing item: Pros: You don't get wet as quickly. Basically, ingame, your temperature will decrease at a much slower rate in rain with the poncho on instead of survivor clothes/a ghillie suit/whatever. Cons: It's a bit noisy. Ingame, the 'noise level' gauge will go slightly up (for zombie detection), and the clothing will make a slight noise that we all know from rain gear (for other players to detect you). The barometer, a tool slot item. (example: http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/B0045W6YO0) Similar to the compass and the watch in the way it is used. A button brings it up, and it shows you temperature, humidity, and the air pressure. I actually have no idea if Arma 2 has a modeled weather system or if it's all just randomized, but I think it's something that should eventually be added if it isn't! This way you could see the eventuality of rain on your server and plan for it, rather than having it occur randomly. -
Not just no, but FUCK NO. This is a gigantic red flag. I don't like this development one bit. I had unprecented faith in the dev team until this warm turd landed in my lap this evening..

Tents are still fucked -- still multiplying, and still emptying out. FYI.

So beta patch 95389 apparently is NOT RECENT ENOUGH to actually play on servers. Bad version, blah dee fucking blah. Seeing as the official site is more broken than a Thai whore, and SixUpdater is seemingly incapable of keeping up to date to new patches, is there anywhere, anyway, anyhow to get a newer patch, besides being an all-powerful demigod? Christ, it's more of a scavenge hunt to actually find the beta patches by these incompetent BI cunts than it is to find life-saving items in the apocalyptic survival simulator we're all playing..
