It took me half a year to realize that the coolest hat in the game has been in the game since release;

Concur. My very favorite thing is when the two are combined. One part scavenged high-end shit, and two parts improvised junk. I love the contrast that occurs when things like that are done. I would enjoy something like having a really nice military vest, but the clothing being home-sewn from animal pelts.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
wartzilla replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
Revolvers are more popular than you might think in Europe. Some countries have specific competition classes for wheelguns, which means there's more than a few of them. Granted, not as wide-spread as they are in the game, but details schmetails. I'll grant you the longhorn, because pistol hunting is banned in many countries, but I'm sure it's allowed in several European countries and would definitely be possible to find in those. I don't know about the Czech Republic but it's got one of the best gun law regimes in Europe. As for the Blaze, double rifles are some of the most popular hunting weapons on the continent, along with combination guns. You can't use that as an example, in an apocalypse they would be everywhere. The Striker is an extreme niche firearm which was never adopted anywhere and has only ever been a civilian weapon in America (before it was banned there too). It's an extremely unlikely firearm to find, and seeing it in-game would be jarring. Like suddenly finding a pilotable Apollo moon lander or some shit. -
Never mind all that, what's the new boomsticks like
wartzilla replied to theirongiant's topic in General Discussion
The shotgun is back to its good old ways, so don't fret. I've managed to find two shotguns thus far, but never a hacksaw at the same time, so I'm unfortunately not carrying one yet. Hopefully next time I play I'll be able to find a shotgun now that I have a hacksaw. It's hardly the most useful weapon in the game, but it's damn cool. -
What exactly changed about the melee combat in .47 stable?
wartzilla replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I'm pretty sure it's just the hitbox of the zombies being laggy and out of place, most likely due to the ragdoll system since this is the only thing that has changed. I've found that if you hit them head-on they're as easy to hit as before, but if you let them run past you and try to circle-strafe them, it's a complete crapshoot. To me that indicates hitbox fuckery. -
Uh, no, this would ruin the game.
-
No. Why would you want to regress? Even the mod has implemented blood types now.

Anyone like the idea of a more complicated reloading system?
wartzilla replied to MONKAYPOO0's topic in General Discussion
The frantic, panicky gameplay that comes from trying to kill zombies when you don't have a magazine for your gun but only loose ammo is actually what inspired me to write that post to begin with. It makes the game harder in a way that makes sense. You'd have done just fine if you realized how reloading without a magazine worked to begin with! -

wartzilla replied to MONKAYPOO0's topic in General Discussion
You wouldn't be 'stuck in an animation loop' in my suggestion. You'd be in the inventory dragging stuff. Just like today you'd be able to tab out of the inventory and do stuff at any time. -
OP seems to be really mad about people shooting other people in a sandbox game.

Definition of Bandit vs Murderer?
wartzilla replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
A bandit is literally a murderer. The only reason the term 'bandit' is even in the game is because the original bandit in the mod was a person who had murdered someone. Murdering someone would give you the bandit skin. That's it. You can all try to sugarcoat it if you like, but that's what a bandit is in this game. People who rob others are robbers. Literally. Highwaymen if you want to be fancy. -
Anyone like the idea of a more complicated reloading system?
wartzilla replied to MONKAYPOO0's topic in General Discussion
I think the reload system should not be key-based at all. Remove R for reload, make us drag magazines from the gun to our inventory (or the ground), and drag full mags from the inventory to our gun. This simulates reloading as accurately as possible outside of making everyone buy full-body VR suits and VR goggles. First of all, it simulates the bad situational awareness you have when you are reloading. You need to be safe to reload. You cannot merely press a button while you are still maintaining full visual awareness. In reality, reloading is an action that requires your attention. You cannot just press a button and have a machine do it for you while you scout the area. Second of all, it simulates the frantic fidgeting while you are manipulating your firearm. You can choose to do a 'speed reload' by frantically dragging the magazine to 'vicinity' instead of trying to find space for it in your inventory. This simulates a speed reload in real life. Thirdly, it will somewhat narrow the balance between internal-magazine and external box magazine firearms in DayZ currently. If they also fix the magazine system to allow for weapons like the Mosin to be topped off, they will be much more useful compared to the current state of the game. All in all, making reloading a more risky and realistic activity would serve to differentiate the gunplay in DayZ from run-of-the-mill CODBLOPS720NOSCOPE games, and make firefights much more intense. -
No, I'm complaining about the air fields being 'prime real estate' in terms of loot, which make them the natural focal point for squads and high-end players. I would rather that the loot-rich areas were varied, interesting cities like Novo or complicated military bases with fun layouts, rather than airfields.

An Experiment on Airfield Tunnelvisioning
wartzilla replied to tullyburnalot's topic in General Discussion
Almost everyone who plays this game play with the risk-awareness of a headless chicken. The northeast airfield merely distills them into a potent concoction of stupidity, making it even more obvious. -
No. I hate the layouts of the air fields, they're terrible and boring. Wide open, flat places. I resented going there, and I'm glad there's no longer any reason to.

DAYZ EUROPA - The world's finest vanilla DayZ Mod server
wartzilla replied to vinyljunkie's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Props for taking the initiative to run a clean DayZ server with no mod junk. I'll make sure to remember this server once I decide to reinstall the mod again. -
Tough shit, the SVD is already in development and confirmed. The power of a Mosin, with the PSO scope and (at least) 10-round magazines. They also make 20-round mags for the SVD, so considering we have high-capacity options for the other rifles it would make sense for those to be a rare find in the game.
-
The FNX for sure. I've found the CR75 to be a decent pistol and not nearly as worthless as the 9mm pistols in the mod, but since it has the same magazine capacity as the FNX I see no reason to use it when I can find an FNX and mags just as fast. Once they add 9mms with 17-20rd magazine capacities the FNX starts trailing off. Why use a bigger bullet when you can use way more slightly smaller bullets?
-
Not really. The most common firearms in most countries, if not all countries, are hunting rifles and hunting shotguns. Of which we have one shotgun (bugged and useless), and one hunting rifle, with a second one soon to be added.
-
Yep. Along with the other pistols it is essentially junk loot. I like that they are in for flavor, but in the current state of the game, fairly useless. Adding more rifles would probably be more value for development time, but oh well.
-
let people choose what item they want when they spawn
wartzilla replied to valtsuh's topic in Suggestions
I would like for people to spawn with more 'useless' items like for instance a notepad (to tear pages of paper from) and a pen. The notepad could be used as kindling, or for writing notes if you actually hold on to the pen. -
This would be the most amazing thing ever. Probably won't happen, but hey, they already bought one studio specifically for one game system!
-
It's new but it's not much of a military base, considering the loot tables for the barracks only have junk loot in them.

Possible way to implement vehicles fairly into DayZ
wartzilla replied to SamualACarver's topic in General Discussion
I honestly don't care how rare vehicles are, as long as they add the ridable horses they said they wanted to add before vehicles arrive. Why'd you want a noisy vehicle that wastes rare fuel when you can have a horse that fuels itself on the grass we're all running through all day long when we play? -
People make the game fun, but only if it's actually surprising to see the people. There's someone running around at the NEAF every single time I visit it, much like there's always someone running around on the map if I join a Counter-Strike server. It defeats the entire point of DayZ, which is survival and exploration with unexpected encounters along the way.
