Sounds like that server is running an incorrect BE version or not running BE. Try more servers? :P

Thanks for the heads-up.

Loot that always seems to avoid you...
wartzilla replied to LastPatriot's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ghillie suit.. until I realized the damn thing was removed from the loot tables.. Tents dodged us for a long time until we gave up and traded for them. Of course, tents are broken so that turned out to be pointless. :P -
Perhaps, but it would just increase the gap between the hoarders with tents and vehicles (*ahem*), and the newer players. I'd support something like this for items like vehicle parts and fuel, along with the bits for the planned underground bases, *if* vehicles are reset globally.

You most exciting DayZ moment?
wartzilla replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My second kill, seeing the muzzle flash from my target light up in my NVGs, spotting and then firing bursts with my Mk48 until the target was down. Tracers pretty much lit up the entire forest behind him/her.. Before that, it was being sniped at in Sobor. I could see the impact of the bullet around a meter away from me, before I got my wits about me and ran. -
The friendly guy and the helicopter
wartzilla replied to iaxx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
'Honor', really? Okay Ned Stark, have fun with that. -
After the 1.7.2.3 patch, I died in place and respawned on top of my own body, replete with the broken bone icon. The icon refused to disappear, even though I didn't actually have any broken bones. Just saying, it happens.

whats is your ideal gun setup/gameplay style
wartzilla replied to resistence1993's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why would you? Once you have the residential drop essentials (M1911, ALICE pack, tool items), there's no point. Food and water can be gotten easier by foraging and visiting ponds. Personally I am a really poor shot so I've gone from sniping to the Mk 48 machine gun. Definitely my favorite gun so far. -
If you don't want a sandbox game, then please get the hell out of the kitchen. It's one thing to have an actual criticism of the game, but this is more like saying 'rocket, you made a game that is exactly what you intended it to be in scope and purpose but I don't like it personally and want a carebear game so you should start over'. Fuck off.

The Bandit Dilemma: An Inner Look at the Economics and Psychology of Banditry
wartzilla replied to Chiefmon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Perhaps this post would do better in the survivor forum, where you can all be butthurt in unison. Also, those of you who seem to think people who kill other people get progressively worse at it as they go on, you should go talk to a professional soldier some time. Believe me, his 'aim doesn't get worse' because he's 'afraid of getting killed'. Rather, he feels more confident because he has more combat experience. Which is *exactly* how it works in DayZ, without any arbitrary effects applied to the player that make no sense whatsoever. -
A kill is a kill. Another notch in my gun. I don't play along the coast, and thus have never actually had the chance to kill someone without a gun, but who gives a shit if you kill a newly-spawned unarmed player? Those players have literally nothing to lose. I'm not sure why this has somehow become a sacred cow. I'm tempted to head to the coast and specifically pick out newly spawned players to shoot just because it gets people's panties in a bunch so much.

Do you use servers with 3rd person enabled?
wartzilla replied to blueskin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't mind third-person being enabled, because the FOV in ArmA II is claustrophobic. The first person view is like looking through a tube. Only with third person view do you actually get something similar to the situational awareness you'd have in real life. It's a shame, but with a game projected on a 2D screen there's not much else to do! Besides someone buying Eyefinity setups for everyone. :D -
What gun did you find the first time?
wartzilla replied to Suzie (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
First gun I found was on the first player I killed (with the starting Makarov, back when that was around), an MP5SD. There was, however, no ammo for it. So the *real* first gun I found was an AK74 Kobra, in the first deerstand I found. I actually never fired a shot with it before I got north to Stary and found a DMR in the tents, which I used for a month after that until I died, 3 days ago. -
Stuck on 'waiting for character to create' version 95170/95168
wartzilla posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Servers are on 95170, I am (apparently) on 95168, and this is all I see. -
Yeah, the performance is blistering considering all the game needs to render now is a black loading screen.

So how long does it take for servers to update to latest version?
wartzilla replied to kingmeanie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In this case though, the patch is not backwards compatible. This is why people are wondering how long it takes this time.. -
Reduce DMR spawnrate and/or reduce rate of fire.
wartzilla replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Play on servers without crosshairs, boom, fixed. -
PvP kills: what % would you do for real?
wartzilla replied to Stukov's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would not actively hunt people the way I do in this game. It *is* just a game. I would avoid, and if necessary shoot, in real life. Making contact with strangers in a scenario like this is not worth the risk.. Unless, of course, it's a game! -
Some PvPers come to DayZ for Easier Kills/Targets
wartzilla replied to bbilbo1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No. The reason I PVP in this game is because this is a sandbox game. Death MATTERS. Both for my targets, and for me if I should fail. That makes the gameplay meaningful, intense and actually makes me want to play. Endlessly respawning with endless out-of-nowhere gear means death is nothing more than a mild annoyance, if even that. -
Financial model Anything but free-to-play (with a game store) The free-to-play model *can* work, in games where it makes sense. Games that have a functioning society and market to begin with! It would be idiotic in an apocalyptic game. I would pay subscription fees for this game, but the buy-once model is a more attractive option. As huge as this mod is now, Kickstarter would probably go through the roof. So definitely do that. Server model I believe the goal of the standalone game should be to somehow implement a single-shard server like EVE Online. Obviously, Chernarus is not big enough for 500,000 or a million players, and it's not like you or anyone else have the art manpower to create an entire frickin' continent, let alone one that would actually run on a cluster. How about having each server be a different Chernarus island, and linking them through some sort of inter-server travel mechanism? Sort of like Perpetuum Online. This way you could, with some effort, travel to a different island if you didn't like the locals. You could *not*, however, simply disconnect and appear in the same place on a different island. You would have to physically go there.

It would make sense. In addition, why not add salt bags to the residential loot drops? Meat could be cured with salt and smoked, not only as an alternative to cooking, but to make it last longer.

This really slots nicely into the stated philosophy of 'if you're good at this in real life, you're good at it in DayZ'. Presently, in order to shoot at long range, you only need to adjust for elevation. It isn't exactly hard, despite the amount of misinformation I see everywhere regarding ranging with mil dots and such.. Currently, long-range shooting in DayZ is arcade-simple. In real life, long-range shooting is something you need to know how to do before you can actually hit someone at 1200-1600 meters like the most powerful sniper rifles in the game are capable of. Not only is this a bit disappointing given the detail found in the rest of the game, it is also frustrating for people when they get shot by the people with those sniper rifles. Now, I'm not against banditry at all, or sniping. I am a bandit and a sniper myself. I do, however, think that it should require more knowledge, more skill, and perhaps even more patience. Adding windage, and adding the element of having to not only judge the wind speed just like you would in real life, but compensating for it, would bring sniping in DayZ up to the level of real long-range shooting. It would make long-range shooting a hell of a lot more interesting and rewarding, as getting that shot out at 1.6 k's really took you some work. ArmA II does not support windage at all, however, ACE2 does. ACE2 is a mod which I know DayZ already loans the occasional feature from. Windage should, in my opinion, also be kindly loaned from ACE2, along with the various items used for windage added to the loot tables and tools section similar to the compass and GPS.

People who call themselves bandits.
wartzilla replied to Jackftw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Greetings, I would like to point you to the game's definition of a bandit; Someone who has killed another player who was not a bandit. That's it. That's the whole puzzle. If you have your own poetic little definition of it, that's very cute and all, but 'bandit' is the word this game uses for people who engage in nonconsensual PVP. That's it. In EVE, they're called pirates. There's some idiots who roll around in that game and think people who 'don't honor ransoms' aren't 'real pirates'. Those people are fools. Entertaining fools, but mostly just silly and annoying when they do their holier-than-thou act. In DayZ there is no equivalent to the warp disruptor that prevents people from just logging off either, so in this game it's a completely untenable playstyle outside of roleplaying. You can put on your robe and wizard hat if you want, just don't try to tell everyone else we need to play your idea of this game to use the game's definition of a bandit. -
I would support this, although I'd probably not ask them for all the different tips.. I support anything that means more player crafting/self-sufficiency. Sure, most people would go for a rifle, including myself.. but why not have some variety? They should add a bolt quiver for the crossbow first, then perhaps add this, with the bolt quiver used for arrows. At the very least, let bolts stack.

[Suggestion] [Poll] Ranked & Unranked Servers
wartzilla replied to domistyle's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No. Absolutely not.
