Off map is the area where nothing is programmed into the game but can still be walked into or driven into. It contains only featureless hills with no trees or even grass. And I agree that nothing should be allowed to be saved off map. This is why it is so hard to find vehicles on most servers, groups have moved all of the vehicles a few miles outside of the play area to horde them.

Probably not, on two counts: 1) The base game is unlikely to have a "beta" patch pre-installed. 2) New beta patches are released for ARMA2 with a fair amount of regularity. So even if #1 were not true, then unless you downloaded the game in the last day or so then you would still be unlikely to have the latest patch.

Remove peripheral dots - Enforce server difficulty settings
Redshift replied to Bo0G's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Pretty sure it is a server option, because I have been on servers that didnt seem to have them. -
Im pretty sure that this "off map" are that is completely empty of everything is a product of ARMA itself, and used so that players in jets can turn and bank without running into an invisible wall. It is obvious to anyone who wants to apply critical thinking to the issue that this area is NOT intended to be used as a play area. This is obvious because nothing is programed there, not even grass. The argument that "in real life you could get away and go into the wilderness" does not apply here because "in real life" this area would not be empty as it is now, there would be towns, houses, roads, heck even trees and grass, and zombies. The reason these are not there is that the game could not simulate the entire world. So in summary: The empty zone is a game mechanic from ARMA to allow jet movement to occur. It was not intended to be a valid infantry play area. Therefor moving tents and vehicles to this no mans land is using a game mechanic in a manner that is contrary to its intended purpose, which is the very definition of exploiting. And since this game mechanic can not be used for its intended purpose (no jets in Day Z), the borders should be locked and an invisible wall erected, or in the alternative disable the ability to save tents and vehicles that are off-map and make them despawn if left alone for more than 15 or so minutes.

This game is becoming less fun.

I just lost the game. -
Cheating is cheating. Is it as bad as someone hacking and nuking everyone in the server? No. But it is still detrimental to gameplay. Like you said' date=' now you know how people have such amazing gear, and they got it with little to no risk. This in fact does hurt every player who plays legitimately. There are several perfectly legitimate reasons to jump from server to server, this is an example of one (even though barbwire has never stopped me from jumping over it, but your mileage may vary).

Server hopping for loot spawns is cheating/exploiting. It circumvents the need to move from area to area in order to find loot spawns, and drastically reduces the amount of risk you expose yourself to in order to find loot. I don't think that is entirely correct. Loot/zombies only spawn if players are near the area, but if someone comes into the area and then leaves it doesnt despawn (at least not immediately, I have no information on how long things take to spawn/de spawn). So server hoppers can log into high traffic areas (NW Air, Cherno Firestation, ect) with reasonable certainty that loot will be there even if other players are not there at that moment. This does not work the same in low traffic areas since they would have to wait for the area to populate if no one has been there in a while.

If there was a difference it would kind of defeat the entire purpose behind the ghilli suit wouldnt it? The primary purpose of camouflage is to break up your outline so you are not as easily recognized as "human shaped". That being said I think that female camo skins/ghillie suits should look like this:

Prague is an amazing city. My first overseas trip was spending a week there and I absolutely loved it. I hope you have a blast. -
i persoanlly would love to see third person removed entirely
Redshift replied to A.Jones's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You are seriously going to sit there and say that 3rd person is an exploit but the dots are totally legit? Really? Those dots are way more exploitable than 3rd person is. "Oh look a barn I need a weapon so i'll go in. First let me look to the left a bit, oh look two dots appeared a ways up the side of my screen. Guess that means there are two zombies on in there on the second or third floor waiting to ambush me where I have absolutely no business know that they are there. Think I will just bypass this barn instead." This just highlights an internal inconsistency to your position. -

Dean "Rocket" Hall playing on a password protected server with only a few people!

If he is testing the newest patch to try and find issues then by definition it has to be done on a closed server since none of the other servers will be running an unreleased patch. -

Heli crash sites are a great example of simi-random loot spawns. But how would you implement this for all types of loot across the entire map? No loot except at crash sites? Remove all permanent structures and have all buildings randomly spawn around the map?Remove loot spwans from buildings and have them pop up randomly in the middle of the forest? I just cant think of a way to do it organically so that it feels natural and authentic. If you can think of a specific way of implementing it then I would be all for it, but under the current game structure I can't see it. -
Just don't like these worthless posts. I mean seriously what was the point of the OP except to waste time and put up an intentionally meaningless thread? It adds nothing of value, nothing to the conversation, it can't even claim to be entertaining (like story posts). At best it is a weak trolling attempt. And yes I likened it to Facebook because in all honesty it is the same kind of verbal diarrhea that you see on there so often, like people posting that "I have nothing to say at all", just don't say it then. And I'm not "raging", just mildly annoyed.

Redshift replied to justwrath's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Orthus, more random loot spawning probably would be the best solution. However it is not as practical with ARMA2 because of the low number of areas to spawn loot in. Now, if every building was enterable then you could do this much more easily. But that is (I believe) a limitation that Rocket can not overcome due to the engine. ARMA3 looks to have many more enterable buildings (think I read 90% are enterable) and this solution would work there much better. -
I blame Facebook for this kind of crap. You should really have your posting privileges suspended for at least a day for this type of thing.

Rocket selling out. This is obviously an in-game add for that horrible Battleship movie.

You cant fix broken bones with morphine' date=' or bullet wounds with only the application of a bandage, or cure the symptoms of shock by taking an Advil, or replenish your blood supply instantly by binge eating, or sprint full out forever, or fix a car/helicopter without tools and/or a repair garage, or make magazines for your pistol magically appear (i.e. recombining revolver ammo into 1911 magazines), or any number of other things that you can do in the game. So using "real life" as the [b']only argument is not valid. Using reality as an intensifier to other arguments would be valid, but not on its own. -
The OP has a point that most people seem to be missing, which is odd since it is a point that people throw around like a religious mantra all the time. This is an Alpha, the point of an Alpha is to TEST different scenarios and see what works and what doesnt work. So why not test the idea out? Though I would suggest doing it a little bit differently. First you test making NVGs more common for a while and allow them to spawn at any military spawn point. Then you see how this effects gameplay and server populations at night for a while. Then take NVGs out completely and see how this effects gameplay for a while. Then make a decision based on that TESTED data, instead of just off of current supposition. I would suggest doing it in this order so that if it is found that having NVGs being moderately common is a very bad thing, you dont have everyone with them left over (since they would all be removed in the next test phase). If neither of these scenarios work well then you can revert to the current rarity of NVGs, but at least you would have better information that says it is the best configuration. And as a response to "People will rage over having them taken away". Again, this is an Alpha Test. You should be fully prepared to have all of your stuff taken away on a moments notice. Really I find the lack of this happening more often to be confusing, as it does not really track with previous Alpha experience. Heck Ive been in Betas that did more "we are tinkering with this aspect and taking this away for a week" type testing than Day Z does.
