Which survivor is the legit survivor?

I have heard that the "sanctuary" servers are open ground for hackers. Perhaps this is what you encountered?
  2. I have to agree, I hate that term. I see people throwing it around all the time and it makes me cringe every time because it just proves that they don't get DayZ. There is no endgame. From my understanding of Rockets point of view there never will be an endgame, nor should there be. If you want "endgame" then Left4Dead, Dead Rising, or any number of other zombie related games that incorporate the concept of levels and a final scripted goal. The only endgame in DayZ is when you die and get to respawn on the beach. Well of course its just my opinion. Honestly, I always feel odd having to say "IMO". Shouldnt the default assumption be that people are just talking out of their asses and giving their own horribly biased opinion, unless they specificaly state otherwise? And if anyone thinks their own opinion is not horribly biased then they need to wake up and stop being so deluded. In the end somewhat arbitraty distinctions are all that you can go based on. I mean why don't we have laser rifles, longswords, breach loading muskets, or those classic Civil War Era (American) gattling guns? They don't fit the setting that is why. And why don't they fit the setting? Because of somewhat arbitrary distinctions. Distinctions in dates, distinctions in gere and setting. And that is where my distinctions come from. It's like the distinction between Dawn of the Dead (2004 specifically, because I think it is the better version) and Resident Evil Apocalypse. In Dawn you have a very minimalist approach to zombie defense, civilian firearms and hand to hand weapons. In RE you have the other end of the spectrum. This is an almost perfect example of this type of distinction, because in the end Dawn of the Dead is by far the better film. Similarly I think DayZ will be a better game by going minimalist also. And I agree, I think all vehicles take you of of the game to one extent or another. And I would not be sad if they were all taken out. That, however, is unlikely to happen. So instead I choose to discuss what I see as being the worst of the bunch (choppers). So that is why I made that distinction. As for the distinction of vehicles with mounted guns that one is pretty simple, though I will admit it could be based on faulty assumptions. I have never used a chopper nor been in one in the game. But from the video's I have seen the mounted guns seem to have unlimited ammo. If accurate, this allows people to fly around above the threat of zombies and fire to their hearts content at people on the ground. People who if they fire back, run the rick of alerting zombies, and running out of ammo in the process. This allows the people in the chopper to effectivly rule a server. You are incorrect. I believe what Rocket has said is that he has no intention of making the game balanced. Balanced and Fair are two very different concepts. The game not being balanced means "not all weapons are good. Some of them just suck, and some weapons are completely amazing". The game being fair means "Everyone can die. No one can be effectivly immune from harm or threat". Otherwise he would have open arms for the hackers who want to spawn battleships and chopped at the push of a button, I mean arn't those people stronger than the ones who can't do that? [Yes that is an example of Reductio ad Absurdum, but I use it to highlight a point]. Why not just add suitcase nukes to the game then? Really rare, but you set it on a timer and then it kills everyone and everything on half of the map. It's not fair, or balanced so you should love it. Or tanks? Im sure there would be some tanks laying around somewhere, lets add those in and see how much better the game gets. Oh thats right, it would be worse, not better. If vehicles must be in the game, then I agree people should be able to defend themselves from them. But not with mounted weapons that never run out of ammo (again see the assumption made above). Instead of putting weapons on the vehicles, why not simply allow people to fire out of the windows with their own guns? It seems a much better compromise to me.

    Day 7...guilt

Nice story. It flowed well, sounded good, and you could make yourself get lost in the narative for a few seconds.

US 524 - Bulls**t by admins or hackers?

What is the point of hacking/cheating in general? It is sad people who can't play the game and find enjoyment in killing people with little to no challenge. They don't want the experience, they just want the lulz.
  5. Please re-read my statement. I know what he said and what he meant, and addressed it.
  6. I dissagree Orlok. Flying vehicles, and any vehicle with a mounted weapon on it just take you out of this game. I am certain they are perfectly valid for ARMA 2, but DayZ is a different animal all together. If you are flying above the map, then you are removed from the zombies. You are removed from most other players. You are removed from what makes DayZ different from ARMA2. Yes civilian vehicles with no guns on them would be better than military vehicles with guns, but not by a whole lot because they still remove you from the world. It is just my opinion, but if you want to fly then play ARMA2. If you want to kill zombies with jets and missles, and all of the gadgetry of ARM2, there are mods for that also. Come to DayZ for something different.
  7. I am so sorry for you. The developers really should stop hacking into your computers and writing scripts that force you to play a certain way. /sarcasm Helicopters should stay out of the game. IMO they don't fit the feel of the game at all. It takes you out of the survival mode, and lets you zoom around the map in a flying fortess while being immune to zombies and much safer from other players. And as someone else said adding Helicopters will not cure you from your boredom. Within a day you will have your chopper up and running and be bored again. This will then force you to fly around the coast and big cities killing everyone you see with much more expediency than you did before. If you are that bored because you have "everything" then here are a few ideas: 1) Put everything you have into tents and run all of them over, then drop the vehicles off in high traffic areas where other players (beside yourself) can easily find them, then respawn. Now you can get it all back while starting with nothing, this should be at least as much fun as it was the first time and give you something to do. 2) break into a few smaller groups and hunt eachother down with all of your phat lootz. This should prove much more entertaining than hunting down random poorly equipped players on the coast. 3) Play the good samaritan. Pack up a few czech or alice packs with gear and run along the coast. See how many new players you can help before getting killed. Honestly 1 is the best option imo. It solves all of your stated problems. The only real reason you wouldn't want to do it is if all of your excuses are just that, excuses for doing what you really want to do anyway and a way of asking for a even more powerful weapon (choppers) to do it with.
  8. IMO Helicopters should stay out. They don't fit the feel of the game. You are supposed to be running around scrounging to live, not zooming around in a flying death machine immune to zombies and much safer from player reprisal than you should be (I didn't say immune, just much safer). If the chopper didnt have a side door gun then my opinion would change some, but still not a whole lot.

Spawn on coast glitch with existing character.

This happened to me last night as well with 1.7.2.3 and 94876 beta patch. I was in the hills near Berezino when I logged out, I logged back in on the beach of Cherno (the one that is basically inside the town). Didn't die but it took me a good long while to work my way back to where I was :). Only happened the once so far.

    My Epic Kill

First off, it's not other peoples fault that you choose to use the "wall of text" format. Please learn to make use of paragraphs. Secondly, expecting people to read text that you have intentionally hidden is.... well sad really. You make it black on black and then make it small text. What is the payoff there? Just to have people respond exactly how they responded, so that you can say "You are all wrong, look here where I said it was all different than what I previously stated"? If that isn't a troll attempt then it is close.
  11. I wouldnt mind knowing what servers those are. I know plenty of people like to say that they love nighttime servers, and good for them. But me, I can't play on them. It gets too dark to see the gun in my own hand. This is not immersive (unless I am unwittingly playing a sensory deprevation tank simulator), not realistic in the least, and lastly not fun. Finding a few nice low ping servers that never go to night time would be a heaven sent.
  12. So and then I think that your choosen course of action of so and then quitting is the correct one to make. So and then I applaud you in your effort to not play Day Z anymore.

    The Winchester 1866

I am fairly certain that it has already been nerfed. When I first started looking over the wiki I remember the page saying that it had been toned down in some fashion but that the weapon was still popular for new spawns. I just checked the page again and it no longer says that, but was updated yesterday. So I think it unlikely that this weapon will recieve a further "nerf".

    The Winchester 1866

Ive shot someone and dropped them unconcious with it, finishing them off with a second shot. But also shot someone multiple times and didnt seem to do anything at all to them. So as far as PvP goes I am not a big fan. For killing zombies its a pretty nice weapon, though in most instances I would just use a 1911 anyway since it is my go to zombie weapon (quick fire for hordes, one shot kill, and plentiful ammo).

    Shotgun or Lee Enfield???

Of those two, yes the Enfield would be my choice. I would take pretty much any other shotgun over the Enfield however.

    Has Anyone Seen this Man?!??!

Ok so that is an example of combat logging that is fully justified. If you want to even call fighting an invulnerable hacker combat.

    Waypoints and maps

Picked up a map in a grocery store tonight to find that it had a giant male "member" drawn on it. My buddy had the same thing happen. Not sure what was going on there.

    Camp Griefing

When Im running around if I find a campsite like this (and I have a vehicle) I will flatten it also. The reason is pretty much the same as the reason you shoot on sight most of the time. It is a premptive defense. 1) You see someone and dont shoot them, chances are they will shoot you. By that point it is pretty much too late to do anything about it as you are probably dead. So the only defense is to shoot first. 2) Campsites are the same way. They are a location that other players can easily re-equip at when they die. This represents a threat to you (see point 1). So you stop the threat before it gets you killed.
  19. Old videos. You do not start with a weapon anymore. Try finding the large barns with the slanted roof, or the long cattle barns with large open doors. Both of them are good places to look for your first gun. Or deer stands if you are near one.

How long until You have to drink/eat ?

Im not certain why it matters to be honest. Unless you are planning on trying a Dead Rising style "lets see how long I can stay alive just by eating" marathon. Otherwise just try to keep atleast 2 food and drink on you and run around playing the game. Eat when it starts to flash, drink when it starts to flash.

    Oil Barrels/Drums locations & related Q's

I have this almost pathological desire to shoot these barrels when I see them. Because.... well barrels always blow up when you shoot them right? Otherwise my youth was mispent and I learned nothing of value about real life from all of my time spent playing video games.

    Oil Barrels/Drums locations & related Q's

Ive seen a few scattered around the larger towns and inside some industrial buildings.
