Was the power of the m1911 reduced?
Redshift replied to NickNova's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The 1911 will not 1 shot a zed if you hit it in the arm. Your aim could be just a bit off or your shooting them from the side and hitting the arm is what it sounds like to me. -
Yes, I understand and agree with you. My point, however, was that this type of automated system can flag people who are just trying to find a stable server. And I find it hard to believe that the mod will ever have the manpower to go through the logs and scrutinize them sufficiently to only catch people who are doing wrong and not those who are legitimate. As for your RL analogy... I am a bailiff for a district court criminal judge, as well as having a father and brother who are both criminal defense attorneys, so I have a fair amount of experience with this. I can tell you for certain that "check everyone to catch the bad guys" is a flawed and broken argument. Beyond the flagrant abuses of stop and search by the police, there is the little issue of your eroding rights of protection against unreasonable search and seizure (US argument obviously, may not extend to other countries). But this is going horribly off-topic so I will shut up.

Fair enough. But you do understand why people would be worried about bans for completely legitimate actions that could be misconstrued by an automated system as being inappropriate play, right?

US1337 hacked everyone raped anally then killed
Redshift replied to red62's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Blindingsun you have my beans just because Magical Trevor is awesome. As for the hacker.... and I hate to say it like this. But what did you expect? I saw this same server come up on my list last night and thought to myself "The server number is "leet" in leet-speak. This means the odds of hackers/griefers/ect are bound to increase by at least x4. Think I will go somewhere else". -
It does come down to preference. The M4 is nice for getting up close and for when you want to go fullauto (not that often in my experience, but it happens). I was running with one for a while and loved it, but traded out for a Bizon I found in a tent city (sadly the server that I stored the M4 on went offline for two days and when it came back up everything including my own tent and jeep seem to have re-set). That character died when I tried to jump over barbed wire... On my current life a buddy gave me his M14 because he thought it was too loud and wanted to go with a AK-kobra. I have to say that I am loving the M14. Yes it is loud, no it doesnt have burst or full-auto but it still fires in simi decently well and seems very accurate. It fills the role I most like to play in my group perfectly, mid-range fire support. You don't want to be killing zeds with it because of how loud it is, but thats what sidearms are for anyway.

This right here. I play with two IRL friends, one lives in the same city as I do but the other lives in a different state. When we log in we are forced to go from one server to another with a fair amount of regularity in order to find one that is playable for all of us. Once we find a server that is not lagy or has fps issues or is constantly desyncing then we tend to stay on it for the rest of the night. But even then sometimes servers that looked good will develop rubber-band lag that makes them unplayable and we are forced to start the process all over again. How will this system affect us?
-
How exactly are you supposed to collect this evidence? This is something I have always wondered.

I don't believe DayZ has made any money at all, ARMA2 sales have been made, but not DayZ itself. Secondly even if they did this and put up 100 servers.... you realize that would be over 7000 players per server? Not sure about you but that seems awfully crowded to me. Even if you assume only 1/10th of the players per server were playing at any given time that is still over 70 people playing per server, which is more than most servers hold atm.

So just had something odd happen in game. My buddy and I were scouting out Vybor. We crawled in and were attracting zero zombie agro when all of the sudden we heard someone come over voice chat asking what was up. I start scanning around me trying to find where it was coming from when I see a dog that is trailing zombies running straight toward us. This seemed odd but I had to take care of the zombies first thing before figuring anything else out. Once we killed them the dog was still sitting there right next to me bleeding, and they guy comes on over voice chat again asking "Have you seen anything odd lately? You know, besides the dog". At this point I figure that this was a hacker who made himself look like a dog somehow, so I logged off of the server. If im right it could have been worse, since he didn't seem malicious and in stead was just looking for a laugh. But yea. So was this at all possibly legitimate, or was it in fact a hacker? Because as far as I was aware, dogs are not yet added into the game at all. Edit: Was on US140
-
Well dogs being in AO is one thing, are they in DayZ was my question. And I don't have two accounts, just the one.
-
My buddies and I had started to use US 232 as our home server, then last night it went down and has yet to come back up. Anyone know if it went offline permanently or when it will be back?
-
In a heartbeat if I could do so legitimately in the game.
-
Good job, and good job not abusing the same mechanic they used against you. However I have to say that after reading this I am very thankful I am not on your voice chat server if you actually talk and scream like 13 year old girls like that. Other than that, good job :)

Yea I am pretty sure Rocket has stated that it only counts players who have been alive for longer than 2 min.
-
Love the idea. As for "Why dogtags"? Why not? It isn't a stretch to say that our characters are military people; they know how to effectively use military weapons (knowing how to use a weapon effectively is far different than just pointing a gun at someone and pulling a trigger) equipment (nvgs, rangefinders, entrenching tools ect) and vehicles, know advanced combat first aid, how to properly combat crawl (it's harder than it looks), just to name a few of the things our characters innately know how to do that a normal civilian would not. Besides, its just a mechanic that works and fits the setting. As for this encouraging more pvp.... people will be bandits and engage in pvp regardless. This will do nothing to make it more rampant, nor will it discourage pvp. So in that sense it is a perfect mechanic in that it is neutral. Name Number of hours alive in game (or days alive even though that is much less reliable) Date killed Zombie kills Murders Bandit Kills

Server problems, hackers infiltrating servers, the unreliability of servers to stick to their posted in game times, admin abuse, and the fact that I want nothing to do with nighttime (I like being able to see the gun I am holding in front of my face thank you very much). Not to mention what would happen if your chosen server is full so you can't play the character you have been working on. Too many problems with it. Plus the server hopping and combat logging can be fixed other ways, supposedly Rocket already has a fix for it and is trying to optimize the fix before releasing it.

Massive amount of servers, getting all players kill 6:40am EST
Redshift replied to GunzBlazin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Im sorry but that is a crappy answer. If your admin knows how to stop the script kiddies then he should be sharing that info with everyone, not hording it like some little kid. Hacking/scripts ruin games and people should do whatever they can to make sure it goes away on all servers. -
dayzmod.com - Aug 2012 - Q&A with Rocket
Redshift replied to Max Planck's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Just an opinion, but that blue color hurts to try and read. The red is perfectly fine. Why not go back to normal color text for questions and red for the answers? -
dayzmod.com - Aug 2012 - Q&A with Rocket
Redshift replied to Max Planck's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Just a comment on the supermarket thing. Remember this is Russia not the US, they may not have the same type of mega stores we are used to. In my trips to Prague, and Italy I found that small corner stores like this were pretty much the only things available. Q: When will MyLittlePonies be added into the game? Or if not then what about rideable horses as a type of vehicle? Q: Any plans on adding group functionality within the game (even a simple way to designate who is in your group, and use group chat)? -
The reason you probably don't see this is because when you live stream your gaming it is akin to saying "Hey look at how good I am at this game". Because.... well why would you want to watch someone play who sucks? So if you are implicitly saying you are so good at a game that I should watch you, then why should I try to help you? Why would you need my help? Obviously I understand that everyone who live streams is not in fact trying to say that they are great at the game, but that is an unavoidable undertone that is perfectly natural to take from it.

Grandmaster pickpockets. Shouting "Guards Guards!" will not help you here son.

is this a Good pc to buy
Redshift replied to ShadowGamer (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Honestly if you are buying a Pre-built computer you are going to have to choose 1 of 2 things. EITHER it will be inexpensive (about your stated price range) OR it will be a good gaming machine. You will not find a pre-built computer that is both. The best suggestion is to buy your parts separately (newegg) and build it yourself (or have a friend build it for you). You can build a very nice gaming computer for $600 that way. Otherwise you can buy a pre-built computer for $600 that can surf the internet, and play the last gen of games decently well. -
In the end should i buy Arma 2 for DayZ or wait for standalone?
Redshift replied to Arquitecto's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Definitely buy it now. 1) It's a really fun game. 2) Buying it now sends a clear message to the game company(s) that DayZ works both as concept and in practice. This will help convince them to support the furthering of the game as a standalone project. edit: 2.5) So by purchasing the game for DayZ you are supporting DayZ itself and its future iterations. 3) It's on sale right now and you will get more than your monies worth out of it even if the standalone came out in September (which I doubt will be the case).
