When you find a sniper rifle...

Found an FN FAL AV/PVS-4 today (my luck is definitely improving loot wise). Bit of a double edged sword tough as it is virtually useless during daylight leaving me dependent on a 1911. But come evening, I reckon I may indulge in a bit of sniper hunting; thin out the herd a bit.

Too hard to find sniper rifles WOW

If you ever do manage to find one, the following procedure will virtually guarantee a one-shot kill: 1. Find outhouse. 2. Enter outhouse. 3. Take a seat. 4. Kick off one shoe. 5. Position weapon between knees with butt on floor. 6. Place muzzle in mouth. 7. Pull trigger with big toe. 99.9% effective.

To The massive convoy on US 38

Could be the same group that left an unguarded Huey parked on the Cherno jetty. Sure as hell beats finding a Makarov with 1 clip!
  4. To whoever left their Huey parked on the Cherno jetty on US 38 Texas; if you are going to leave your chopper unguarded at least take the keys with you.

Do You LeaveYour Car like That?

If it was, their sniper was napping. Flew it off the map West of Myshkino, landed and checked it for gear (nothing) then buzzed the NW airfield. I feel kinda bad though, just as I was about to touch down on the tallest tower at Devil's Castle, somehow I was ejected and I wound up dead. I swear I didn't hit "Eject" and it had plenty of fuel. Can't say if it survived or not. If you're anywhere in the area jump on US38 Texas and have a a look.

    Starting with tools? Your thoughts..

Allow the dressing of animal carcasses with the hatchet, which can be done in real life. Needing to find matches, a hatchet AND hunting knife in order to collect and cook meat is brutal, especially when cooked meat is the only viable alternative to blood bags.

    LOOT in DEER STANDS

Have just spent ~12 hours over the last 3 days traveling North from Kamenka. I only looted two buildings in Kamenka which luckily yielded a canteen, 1 can of pasta, and a hatchet within 10 minutes. I purposely concentrated exclusively on deer stands from then on hitting 14 in total, the last one being on the Eastern slope of Bashnya, 1k North of the airfield barracks. My scavenging yielded: 3 DMR mags 2 GL17 mags 2 1911 mags 1 Remington 870 with flashlight but no ammo 1 AKM with 1 mag 1 Makarov with 1 mag 3 Bandages 1 Morphine Sandbags Cans, sooo many cans... My only food since leaving Kamenka was 1 can of beans found on one of the two zeds I was forced to give the chop. Plenty of livestock and game to be had, I even managed to sneak up close enough to a bunny to despatch him with my hatchet, but without a hunting knife or matches there was no point. In the 12th hour, I ventured into Petrovka (don't bother) in an attempt to stave off starvation, where I was promptly gang chomped by zeds after breaking my leg in an outhouse door which, as we all know, the AMA sites as one of the leading causes of leg fractures. Not a huge sample to be sure, but my luck with deer stands to this point has been crap-tacular.

    Does throwing cans work?

In former Soviet state, cans crush you!

    Barb wire and other Blockades!

Server US13 Dallas: Cow barn 1k East of Zelenogorsk. Some bright spark has wired off the doors to the NW alcove and set up tank traps INSIDE the room. That is one paranoid puppy! From what I could see, he did manage to trap himself a can of Pepsi so I guess it was worth it! If I ever find a satchel charge...

    Tips for sneaking past zeds?

Imagine the following scenario: You are "crouch running" in the vicinity of zeds and not attracting their attention; so far, so good. You come to a fence and decide to vault it using the V key. Once over the fence you continue on your way FAILING TO REALISE THAT YOU ARE NOW STANDING AND RUNNING FULL TILT THROUGH THE HORDE! REMEMBER: vaulting any obstacle automatically puts you into a standing stance. You must return to your previous stance, if desired, using the appropriate key. If you stop for any reason, always check that you are in the desired stance before proceeding. A lesson learned through bitter experience.
  11. Just stand on the beach facing the ocean; eventually one will find you!
  12. There are 4 lighthouses that I know of. 1 - on the beach between Kamenka and Komarovo. 2 - on Cap Golova, a rocky outcrop 2k East of downtown Cherno. 3 - on Drakon, a small, rocky island 1k East of Elektro. 4 - on Krutoy Cap, a small peninsula 4k East of Elektro. If you are standing on Krutoy Cap, you will see Skalisty Island (the largest on the map) to the South.

    Tips for a New Character

Take some yoga lessons; when the inevitable happens you will be able to kiss your ass goodbye! As TheSexyGoat suggested, the tutorials in Single Player\Boot Camp, in ArmA 2, should be your first step. DON'T RUSH IT.
  14. In my experience, when prone with secondary weapon in hand, you always "fast" crawl; you cannot select "slow" crawl using Left Shift. If you want the ability to "slow" crawl, you must be prone with primary weapon in hand. If there is a way to "slow" crawl with secondary out, please explain.
  15. That would involve some scripting which I am by no means expert at. Check out the Bohemia Interactive Community wiki site (http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Mission_Editor), Armaholic.com. Download the "Arma 2 Editor Manual" and "Armed Assault Editing Guide - Deluxe Edition" by Mr. Murray. All excellent resources.
  16. Showing initiative, kudos to you! You can also use the editor to practice your land navigation. In Options\Game Options\Difficulty, set "Extended map info" to Disabled; this way your position will not be shown on the map, just like in DayZ (and real life). In the editor, place a unit on the map near Novy Sobor, which is near enough to the center of Chernarus. Team Leaders, Squad Leaders and Snipers will have a GPS receiver as well as a map and compass. Set your unit's "Placement Radius" to 7000m or so; this will make your unit spawn at a random location practically anywhere on the map. Don't worry, you won't spawn in the ocean (no pun intended), although I have found myself knee deep in a pond once or twice. Preview the mission. Set yourself the task of working out where you spawned using terrain association, structures (the TV tower on Green Mountain can be seen from 3 or 4k away), resection, etc. Once you have worked out where you think you are, use your GPS receiver to confirm and see how well you did. You can then set yourself some objectives like navigating your way to Devils' Castle or the Vybor airfield, whatever you want. Chernarus is your oyster. With enough practice, not having a map in-game will be a non-issue; nobody can steal the one you keep in your head. Besides, it is good fun too, IMHO. As an aside, there are many on-line resources available if you want to learn more about creating custom missions using the editor; you should look into it if you haven't already. Good luck, and keep below the ridge lines!
  17. Search function hasn't provided an answer and experimentation keeps getting me killed, so... How close to a structure/village do you need to be in order for zeds to spawn? If I am say 200 to 300m outside of a village doing some recon before a loot run and I see zeds roaming, are they reacting to my presence or should I presume someone else is in, or nearer to, the village?

    ALSATIANS

Outside the scope of the game, but oh, so sweet: 1) Alsatians wandering the countryside lost and confused :(. 2) Can be tamed with offer of meat. 3) Basic Arma II command set utilized, ie: Follow (Return to Formation), Advance, Move To, Watch Direction, Attack Target. 4) Ability to sense zombies/game animals outside of player's perception range and alert player to presence. 5) Must be watered and fed or will perish. Combine that with more elusive, and flighty game animals and I would never set foot on tarmac again! I can dream can't I...
  20. Thanks to the entire dev team for allowing me (I won't presume to speak for "us") the opportunity to participate in this experiment. These forums would be a data mine for any sociology majors researching a thesis! As far as the new loadout in V1.7.1.2 goes, I reckon it's close to optimal. Was pleasantly surprised to see all that usefull gear when I first logged on. Like Christmas morning. In Hell. The matches are especially appreciated! They were damn scarce before. And all those hatchets and crowbars! I could have opened a HomeDepot in the keep of Rog castle! Haven't really been affected by the reported "limited food spawns" as the pig hunting north of Msta is fantastic. Was cooking up some pork chops (thanks again for the matches) when four more on the hoof sauntered past 10 feet from the fire. I suppose some beans would have been nice as a side dish. Too bad the apple orchards aren't raidable! Is having a blood bag to hand a realistic scenario for the average shmuck? Of course not. It does, however, provide me a means to actively assist in saving another players life, should the opportunity arise, which I appreciate as I do not get off on taking them. Anyhow, thanks again and keep up the good work. There hasn't been a game that has made my heart pound and senses crackle like this since... well, ever! Sure it's difficult, near impossible sometimes, but hey, life wasn't meant to be easy, right? And dying I can do in my sleep. The area between Devil's Castle and Novy Lug looks like good hunting ground. Will have to check it out next, I reckon. Just a quick rant in ending: To all those who feel that the devs need to cater to your petulant demands and stop messing with "your" game, you would do well to remember that it isn't "your" game. It is a gift freely given and should be taken as such. No one owes you a thing in this world, or a virtual one.
