Computer that can run Dayz and other games on high...
jblackrupert replied to FriskyDingo18's topic in Technology/Programming
Seriously, shop at a proper computer store. The specs on that system are not even fully listed to make a complete judgement.. buying pre-built systems from stores like Bestbuy is not a good idea, they cheap out on parts. -
Intel are the most reliable. Not Samsung. They have the lowest failure rate in the industry. You do not need to "manually direct" Steam download/installs. You set up as many install locations as you like in the Settings and they become selectable when you go to install. Ebay is a bad choice for buying hardware, Pick a Computer retailer that can ship to you if you do not have computer stores where you are. Ebay is a dumping ground for defective, refurbished junk and scams.

WRONG....WRONG....WRONG...WRONG!!!. SSD's also reduce/Eliminate texture popping, micro-stutter and LOD Switching in games like Arma that stream large amounts of data off the drive.

Why the hell are so many people obsessed with turning DayZ into a military shooter? NEWSFLASH: You've already got one installed on your system, it's called ARMA 2!!!!

Don't flag those videos. they are a great way to combat hackers before they get a chance to hack. The more wannabes that get their keys stolen the better. -

Smooth as butter for me with pretty much everything on VERY HIGH... i5-3570K [stock], GTX 560 [Non-Ti], 16GB RAM. -
Gamestop is ok, so long as they aren't selling the Steam version, make sure you check what you're buying. If it's a disc, even better, you get a manual. The Bohemia store is pretty simple, you just create an account, buy the game and you get a direct download link + a Key and you can login anytime to grab it again if you need. No silly client needed like Steam. The Bohemia version also fits nicely on a duel-layer DVD.

Trust me, I've been playing Bohemia's games since Operation Flashpoint in 2001. All you need is Arma 2.... Buy the digital version direct from Bohemia. Reinforcements is Arrowhead, it's just a standalone version for people to play if they don't have or want Arma 2. Buy this: https://store.bistudio.com/arma2 and you'll be playing DayZ once it's all installed. The stuff you're reading is misinformed DayZ players who don't know anything about the Arma series. I've been at this 11 years.

Bad choice, you're going to have low-res textures for the characters in the game when you don't have to because you own the DLC which has the high-res textures on the Reinforcements disc. But if thats what you want to do, buy Combined Operations. Thats Arma 2 + Arrowhead ....No PMC and BAF [Which contain the high-res player models] unless those disc versions work with Steam you'll have to buy them again to get the high-res models. http://store.steampo...d.com/sub/4638/ ALSO...... If you buy from Steam your paying TWICE what you would if you bought Arma 2 from Bohemia's store and you lose the DLC Buy Arma 2 from Bohemia = $12.90 and you enjoy high-res characters. Buy from Steam = $24.99 and you probably won't be able to use the character models from the disc you paid for already.

If you don't want to buy the full version of Arma 2, yes you can use that. The textures are low-res though, it's gonna look pretty ugly. If you choose the Free version, make sure you don't grab a key from Steam just in case, use the other key links.

No idea if the Steam versions are compatible with the disc versions or not [My guess is NO] but I may be wrong. However, the Digital version from Bohemia's own store is 100% compatible with the disc version. https://store.bistudio.com/arma2 The problem is directory and install structure of Steam games that causes problems. Strongly advise buying direct fro Bohemia to save any headaches.

You don't need to buy Arma 2 to play Arrowhead but you do need Arma 2 if you want to play DayZ. It uses assets from both. DayZ also uses assets from the BAF and PMC DLC but you don't need those installed unless you want to higher res textures. Don't know for sure, but you may have to uninstall Reinforcements and install Arma 2 first then the Reinforcements again + DLC, then patch.
