I would like to make a argument for sawed off weapons joining the main loot pool.
I have suspicion this might already be planned, as recent updates have added more sawed off weapons which has seemed odd. To the average player this would seem pointless, as right now there is very little reason to mutilate your weapons. The sawed off version is almost always nothing but worse then standard, So why bother for a little extra inventory space or some tighter cqc spacing? Well if the player had no choice in the matter, and was required to adapt to what he has not what he wants, suddenly you have a whole new challenge.
I feel that the player base is very comfortable with our cast of firearms. But especially comfortable to our family of bolt action and single shot rifles, and our dependable double barrel which holds a place in any veterans heart and inventory. But I feel we are too comfortable with these weapons and that for the most part these guns will get you through every stage and challenge in the early to mid game. For most players the full size rifles will get you well into late game and remain with you for the duration of your life. Now I don't believe they should be nerfed in power or ability beyond minor changes. But i do think it makes sense to limit how many are circulating at a given time and to present a sort of natural rarity tier. Imagine getting a Bk-18 cut down or a savanna chopped and without a mag as your first find. What about a Mosin obrez with a PU? or a chopped magnum and you just have to make it work until finding something better. These guns make no sense if you have to ruin a better gun to get them. But they do make sense if it's better then nothing.
The idea makes sense from a logic and world building perspective as well. Finding sawed off and "concealable" weapons hidden within apartments or in houses should be common as there likely would be some level of crime, especially knowing the violent history of places like Chernarus. Having "gangster" style weapons floating around lends into world building, and not just from the past, but for us survivors. Running around like rats looking for anything that will shoot fits the survival aspect of DayZ nicely, at least to me. Killing someone with garbage, only to find they were also using garbage might change whether i engage or not. Or better yet using an inferior version of a gun and outplaying another player to get the full size would be oh so sweet. Pulling a Obrez out of your pants to hold someone up sounds pretty fun as well.
As far as looting goes, i see these as mainly "coast guns". Finding better options would still be a priority. Ideally moving inland would severely reduce their spawn chance and that in turn leaves you searching towns or hunting locations you might have otherwise skipped within level 2 areas. I don't think they should fully replace rifles in tier 1 areas, but i do think they should share the same pool or maybe be more likely to spawn, then finding a full size. But even if they were spawning at 50/50 chance it would still dilute the loot pool considerably.
TLDR; Disrupt the current "Meta", encourage "adaptability" for players with some not so new but new to them toys, and increase the value of the best guns in the game. Makes sense to me.
Not sure if anyone even really reads posts in here, but figured i would throw it out there, as maybe a few other people have thought the same. might get more action on twitch idk.
