    Fog Inbound for DayZ? [Reddit]

Love the fog. That lens flare needs to fuck the fuck off though

    Vehicle Discussion

I agree, everyones screaming for vehicles expecting to use them instead of footing it. In the mod my group used them for storage, emergency base relocating and night time insertions (headlights out) cars were a death trap to be in at day because they are so easy to spot, hear and ambush. My group always preferred moving on foot, rather than just nipping to cherno in the uaz anyone want a lift? Bs

plz do the new patch with this

OK.... you do realise even when vehicles are implemented there going to be really rare right? as they should be, I get the impression a lot of these vehicle nuts think there going to be provided one on spawn or something. I remember a time in the mod where I didn't have a clue where I was going and everything was so intimidating, and hearing a vehicle was a serious WTF! moment. They were the Dayz, I wish I could forget the layout of chernarus and discover it all again, no internet maps, only using what I was provided ingame. Now I can travel anywhere I want, knowing the safest routes without a map or compass. Some people are so lazy.

The challenge and saga of Zombie Pathfinding

Nope I know I'm not smart and never said I was an expert, I have worked with navmesh before though in mods and playing around on Unity which has a similar baking process. And what are your expertise on this engine exactly? Navmesh can be buggy your right but is it not better than having infected run through walls? How do you cope in life being so negative anyway? Bet your a real buzzkill.

The challenge and saga of Zombie Pathfinding

Not the entire thing maybe the quadrant the area is in at most but as stated its done automatically so there wont be any problems adding new areas, last time I worked with navmesh it was all manual and took an age, really tedious work too. That was on the fallout 3 GECK, I believe skyrim uses a similar auto navmesh solution now too.

    Torchia's Mega Vest Sneak Peak

I know there not gods gift, but an item like this with the benefits it brings should be rare in DayZ for gameplays sake. You could say the same thing about tin openers, irl just about every house would have one in some form or another and you could open a tin without one anyway if you were starving to death. But wheres the challenge? The same can be said about backpacks, if the large capacity ones (hunting/military) spawned in abundance there would be no need to bother with the crappier ones, so more common civilian bags are added to dilute the loot and keep you searching.I like the vest anyway so I'm not complaining, would just like more low tier stuff mixed in there like utility belts and hunting vest with bright orange on them. Make the good stuff that little more special. Also to clarify its not the aesthetic or military style that bothers me but the benefits the item brings, it looks like it holds a lot of gear therefore should be rare is my reasoning. Military/civilian is a terrible way to define items and I agree with you that rarity should be based on the perks the items bring.

    Torchia's Mega Vest Sneak Peak

Nothing against it at all I just want it to be rare, yet they seem to be making more endgame content as some would call it. I guess I use the term military gear completely wrong, I guess what I mean is high tier loot. I want to have to put up with low tier loot like civilian clothing, standard pistol hip holsters (police issue maybe) and actually work towards the high tier. Not just enter military barracks and come out looking like a spetsnaz operator. Although I'm not complaining, this isn't the time for loot balancing but testing. I just don't want this stuff to be to common.

No Attachments for Attachments [Torchia Tweet]

Hmm.. I don't know what your getting at, are you talking about handguard or foregrip?Foregrip attaches to handguard rail.

No Attachments for Attachments [Torchia Tweet]

Kind of is an attachment though,I mean you do attach it to the rail, unless its built into the handguard.

    Torchia's Mega Vest Sneak Peak

I've nothing against mil gear but I want it to be really, really rare, maybe they are making ArmaZ... Oh wait the weapon ballistics say otherwise lol.

    Torchia's Mega Vest Sneak Peak

Yea I like it, it looks great. But I want to see more civilian or hunting wear. More holsters for pistols in different styles. The current uk assault vest is already to easy to find.. I like the zombie tease, that one along with rockets comment on the new navmesh is making me excited to see what they've managed with the infected.

Lol weedmasta that split my sides. What does all this mean for foregrips damnit?! I thought they might utilise that m4 RIS foregrip a little more make it more than just a torch holder, which I could just tape on anyway.

    No more whining

I don't know about that theres a load more "whys game still broken" threads. Its nice to read some positive feedback once in awhile.

Anyone else think DayZ should switch engines?

Sigh.. Here we go again. You don't just whip up a game engine in a couple of weeks, it takes years and many of them. I don't understand all the hate the RV engine gets arma 3 is an awesome game that looks gorgeous, runs well and does what it is designed to do which is a military simulator. People who say its to clunky, well its supposed to be to try and simulate the fact you have a body and legs and aren't just a camera floating around. Saying they should of made DayZ on the Arma 3 engine is nonsense because thats just an updated version of RV3 engine, its not written from the ground up. And thats exactly what they are doing with DayZ anyway and with access to the engine they can basically add most Arma 3 features into it (the ones they want anyway) such as the lighting, physics and renderer. The engine in its current state is a mess because it isn't finished, they are still working on it. Changing the renderer for example could improve performance ten fold. Zombie ai is down to how ai was handled in arma, it didn't need to take into account tight spaces because most battles took place in open space. So the ai has been redone by a team who specialise in coding ai and pathfinding. Melee, ai and most complaints are down to programming, not really the engine. This stuff can only go so far in a mod but with full access to the engine they can do quite a bit.

Love How Everyone Is An Expert

Yep, this is my exact predicament with A3 I love it! Except for the setting and futuristic stuff, which is kind of a deal breaker. I mean there's mods sure but what I really want is ARMA 2 ACE on the Arma 3 engine... there was just so much content in Arma 2 that I miss.

Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.

In the ballistics department I couldn't agree more, I miss the feeling my M4 gave me in the mod good old reliable in most situations. In the SA however I am always worried its going to let me down. I too hope they don't try and force people away from PvP as its an important aspect of the game, where would the fun be if you weren't paranoid of getting your face removed by a 7.62. I play many roles in DayZ from 6 man strong psycho bandit squad to timid lone fresh spawn with a trick or two up his sleeve lol

Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.

Ahh I see where your coming from now, I don't 100% agree with you though but that's just my opinion. I think the game should have more focus on survival and with a deep health system along with disease and injuries, I want more things to worry about killing me other than another player hiding in a tree. I agree with the guns being piss poor (performance wise, I love the way they look) and also think they should be much more accurate and deadly like they were in the mod the M4 for example is a joke compared to its mod counterpart, but I'm hoping they plan more work on this in the future and pray to god they scrap the way attachments effect your weapons. I also like the direction they are going with having more civilian type weaponry but I'm sure they will add much more (hopefully no .50 cals though). We have to remember that we aren't playing the game for fun or as a complete experience but for testing purposes, in other words most of the game is still incomplete. A lot of the fixes and tweaks to damage and balancing fun with authentic will come at a later stage, when they have more content to work with and more of the core engines tweaks are complete. I'm not trying to say the game will become what you want it to be because everybody has there own opinions, but you cant judge something until it is finished or more in line with the final product. I hope it does turn out to be something you can enjoy though, and if not maybe the mod community can help out. Personally I love the SA and the direction its heading.

Sorry but I don't understand, I too am a DayZ mod veteran from the days of it being black screen simulator because every server was rammed and spawning with makarov and coyote pack. What is it that you miss from the mod that wont be coming to SA? The abundance of weapons? The horrid inventory screen? Blood bag to instantly replenish your health? Zero animations for eating and drinking? I loved the mod but for me I loved the survival aspect, which I believe the SA to be more inclined towards. I always see you saying there taking it in the wrong direction, but not why. Unless I missed it. What do you mean by "bare bones".

    Please, say NO to helicopters.

And with the growth of the dev team I expect the pace to pick up dramatically soon, its taking awhile because they are working on major engine changes ffs. What do you know about game development exactly? your comment is just unnecessary and off topic. If it takes time for things to be done right then I don't mind waiting. This topics actually making me think about choppers though, there is many pros and cons and the more I think about it the more unsure I am. I guess we will just have to see what happens , it all comes down to how they and camping are implemented.
  22. rickyspanish

    Please, say NO to helicopters.

Most of your argument is based on if helicopters can engage though, what if they are just civilian. Me and my group had our own mod server once and we had the exact issue of dick heads flying down the coast and killing fresh spawns so we just took out the choppers with guns and only had the civilian models in. It worked quite well most people lost interest in them for combat and they were used for things such as re con, rescue operations and transport. They should be really rare and hard to get going. Maybe it could also be something you actualy have to learn to fly make it really complicated and add a flying manual or something I dunno. Either way I could live with or without them, they have just never been that big of an issue for me and have only really added experiences but they must be rare and a bastard to keep fuelled.

    Please, say NO to helicopters.

I've taken down a chopper that was hovering over NW in the mod with an M24 by just shooting the people inside it though, and again when flew over my camp and decided to try and land in it thinking there was nobody there. Shot him right in the face and he dropped out the chopper which gently landed in camp, cleaned up the ones that parachuted out as well but accidentally shot my friend who I mistook for one of them. Ill agree that they can be OP but if they are made difficult enough to maintain, fly and refuel etc I think they will be fine. The real problems come when private servers are up with 80 helicoptors and 200 vehicles. Also there are downsides to having choppers which you haven't mentioned such as stealth is completely gone and anyone on the ground knows your there, I've had to many awesome encounters with choppers such as being nearby when they decide to land and ambushing the landing, destroying/stealing the chopper and wasting all there time the spent getting that thing in the air.

    Reason for DayZ

I think they just scrapped the campaign, something about they weren't happy with it because the devs were stressed and distracted because of Ivan and Martins incarceration. I agree there isn't much to do right now I have about 300h and I've stopped playing constantly and only play when updates come out, I start a fresh spawn and have a little journey check the new stuff and see whats changed and then I play something else when I start to get bored. More stuff will be added I plan to play a lot more when hunting, cooking, camping and such are in. I still enjoy the game though but don't want to burn out to soon, patience is key at this stage.

DayZ SA's current state in a nutshell.

Gun controls are fine he would of been better off with a pistol though. I think the problem is the player speed I mean who moves like that? Also the guy with the gun couldn't handle his shit. FPS is utter turd in cities though thats true but hopefully that will improve.
