    Fix base building please!!!

what's the point of the game? Base building gives the player a purpose outside accumulating massive stores of loot. My group is at the point on official servers where there's literally no point in looting another weapon, bullet, bomb, or mag; we have stashes of all top tier loot spread out all over livonia, along with food, which makes going from fresh-spawn to geared as simple as walking to Sobotka. Our only options are to either wander the map aimlessly looking for pvp, which becomes unfulfilling pretty fast (especially when the pvp is hard to find), or to focus on carving out our own territory on the map and working hard to defend it. The last option remains the most compelling to me, as it gives my group a common goal to work toward and comes with many side missions and adventures along the way. Base building encourages us to continuously loot towns for tools and nails or to take a convoy of cars and a truck to get planks for building, which leads to impromptu combat on back roads and towns. I can only stand killing and dying in the bunker or at swarog so many times before searching for something more. IMO base building is a poorly implemented afterthought that should either be greatly expanded upon, or scrapped entirely. As much fun as I've had with it, its current state is sorely lacking

    Combination lock 5 numbers

make all of your 4 combos different so it takes much longer than 1-2 hours to crack them. I do a baseline 4dial combo, then add 3 to each digit for every gate thereafter ex: 3250 -> 6583 -> 9806 etc. it's actually a lot faster to farm the explosives for a raid than to crack like six different 4 dial combos, especially if you coordinate with your group. Have someone looting military for nades, someone loot dolnik for plastics and detonators, and same for nadbor quarry (Livonia)

    Bullets shrugged off too easy?

9/10 times the shooter will either execute the uncon or the uncon will wake up before the shooter can close the gap on them and they run or return fire. Tying someone up and messing with them is fun, but it doesnt really happen outside spawn towns; it's just too risky

    Bullets shrugged off too easy?

I think the fact that you can tank a .308 if youre wearing a stab vest is even more concerning. New wounded status effects should be added, similar to the leg fracture. After being shot from a high caliber, armored players are knocked out and wake up shortly after with full stamina and around %75 hp (still white, no movement debuff). IMO, when youre knocked with .308 or 7.62x54, you should have a high probability of a broken rib status, which automatically saps your stamina, either low stamina ceiling or slow regen (like wearing a gas mask). You should also make pained noises, labored breathing, and coughing that can give away your location for a few minutes. If they want to make it very advanced, they could add the potential for complications like a tension pneumothorax (compressing lung due to entrapped air sucking wound, leads to death), in which case a chest dart would need to be on hand to relieve pressure. The same problem exists when you shoot an armored person in the head with an intermediate cartridge (5.56, 5.45x39, 7.62x39); the player is simply knocked out and receives little dmg. When shot in the head, the player should experience transient concussive symptoms. They should have slight tunnel vision (darkness around their peripherals), occasional blurred vision, fever, and rare vomiting for a duration of around 15-30 minutes so they have a lasting disadvantage for the duration of the fight. I dont think these ideas would be hard to implement, since most of the symptoms already exist in different contexts within the game -let me know what you think

    Survivors go missing

The character in the menu doesnt always show you as you are in game. When you reconnect to the server, you should be the same as when you left. Every time you join a community server, you start with a new character for that server; there's no server hopping in community, only in official.

    New player can't get started

make sure you pay attention to the indicators on the bottom right of your screen. You may have had red food, red water, an illness, or were too hot (red thermometer) or too cold (dark blue thermometer). All of those things can slowly leech your health away until you die. If youre having trouble with the early game, I suggest you do as Parazight said; take it slow and loot the town until you have enough supplies to go north. Important items to look out for are a sharp tool, like a knife, a water bottle or cooking pot, a two handed melee for the infected, and a firearm for hunting players and animals. Here's how I typically get off the coast quickly: -drink from the well until my stomach is full, then top it off -find a sharp object or craft a stone knife (two stones) -make gloves with rags (cut up clothing you find, disinfect if used for bandages) -loot police department, hoping to get a pump action or loot around for another gun -find an animal to kill, skin it, wash hands (if needed), make a handrill kit (1 stick + bark), make a campfire (wood +bark + sharpened stick) or use a fireplace in a house, eat until full -run north towards the better loot Also, once you really get the hang of the game, you can make a stash ( crate = 17 nails and 8 planks) somewhere along your usual loot path, which will help you along the way. You could even hide a fishing pole with some hooks somewhere along the coast so you have a systematic way of getting food right off spawn. GL and dont give up; learning the game is the most rewarding part, you should savor it

that can't happen. Something else must've killed you, maybe a player.

    Zombies/Infected Level of Awareness

usually zombies come right to you when you throw an object, no matter the direction. It's like they just automatically know where you are at all times, this is supported by the fact that they tend to drift toward your position even when youre sat in a bush, motionless. They clearly need work, same goes for the animals. They behave like theyre from a ps2 game

    Base raiding/building tips?

It only takes two plastic explosive to get through a wall. I'm not familiar with Deer Isle, but if there's a place to farm plastics and detonators, just focus on that and raiding will be a breeze. Alternatively, you can get through a wall with six nades if you throw them behind the wall such that it targets the back frame (negates the front panels), while also hitting the front panels of the next wall, doing double damage.

    Dynamic event: Paratrooper crash site

the loot could be all over the ground under the crash site or be hanging low enough to be looted
  13. This is an idea for a rare dynamic loot drop that would be harder to find than the other larger ones. A single paratrooper body with a parachute canopy would spawn somewhere in the woods, within the path of where the downed helicopters crash. The body could even be draped in the trees, hanging from the canopy, with loot spread on the ground beneath. The body would have a chance to spawn a high tier weapon, NVGs, a camo plate carrier, and miscellaneous items a soldier might have (map, flare gun, food etc.). Dynamic bodies of varying states of decay in different locations have the potential to add eerie ambiance to the game. -Let me know what you guys think
  14. Hi all, I've made this thread for everyone to discuss their thoughts on the bunker. I created a poll as an attempt to display the statistics; if you vote in favor of the bunker being reworked, please elaborate on why and provide examples of some fixes/features you'd like to see. ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- Personally, I think the bunker is a great concept that was poorly executed. The overall design leaves much to be desired, and encourages camping on cramped stairwells/ladders, sound wh*ring, and spamming the widely available gas. The poor combat is exacerbated by the fact that players can logout inside; I've died a few times to players simply logging in right behind me (in the pump room, twice) and to players that logged into the stairwells to guard the ladders on level 03, after I've already cleared the area. The ability to logout inside the bottom levels allows players to farm NVGs, Augs, AK101s, and gas bombs, and renders the keycards pointless. I've killed players carrying two field bags full of top tier loot because they've been farming the rooms off and on for days. I don't think top tier loot should be this easy to farm, if at all. I'm sure the devs considered making it impossible to logout in there, and settled for the current state, but I hope it changes. Another issue with the design is that it essentially forces you down one path that funnels you up a ladder, single file to your death. I'd like the design to be less linear so players have different routes available to them to avoid campers. There could even be another door activated by a key card found in the bunker, which would open a new route to go down. Main issues: -too small -too linear -easy to farm -campy (but that's inevitable)

    Thoughts on the Bunker (1.19)

having a gassed area is a good idea. It would make sense with the purpose of the bunker, since there's tons of gas research in there and it looks like that's where it's synthesized. They could make it look like a gas spill or something. If it is turned into a gassed area, they shouldnt make it as easy to farm filters inside there, like it is in the static gas. I'd also like to see infected there, maybe even a new kind of infected that's more difficult. Imagine a rare infected wearing the NVGs and the special plates, basically geared zombies

    Thoughts on the Bunker (1.19)

they don't come back out; they server hop then come back and usually end up in Bielawa or Lukow. Every element of the bunker that can be exploited, is being exploited

    The Infected of the Forest

I always thought it'd be cool if they added a special infected type that roams the forest and produces a loud screech when in an aggro state, which can be heard from long distances (1km+). This way, other players in a 1-2km radius would know when a screecher has been "activated" and could move toward you

    Stab Vest OP

I like the idea about the replaceable armor plates. Carrying a bunch of epoxy is too easy right now. Maybe the plate carrier should have limited number of times it can be repaired; by the third time you repair it, it should only be able to go to a "damaged" state (first repair being when you get it off a zombie)

    Stab Vest OP

yeah, Topolin (spawn town) is basically a Savannah, Tundra, and Mosin factory, it's kinda absurd. Endgame long-guns should be moved further south or the lower tier ones are rendered totally useless. I've actually never had to use a pioneer or Cr527 because a better alternative is easier to find, and I dont even need to find a mag if it's the Tundra, Blaze, or Mosin. Sidenote about the snipers, imo it wouldve been better if a very high tier military bolt action (like an SV98) was added instead of another hunting bolty (savannah); the military version would have a scope with mil dots, an SR suppressor attachment, bipod attachment, and be mag-fed, differentiating it from the hunting rifles. Plus, it wouldnt spawn in freshy towns.
  21. Problem: Game chat is rarely used by players on console because of the party chat system and difficulty switching from party chat to game chat. Implications: Lack of game chat use has made the culture of console DayZ largely KOS because it's too dangerous to switch to game chat from party chat near strangers. Furthermore, an entire unique feature of the DayZ experience is ignored by console players; walkie-talkies are completely neglected on console. It's unrealistic to expect players to not use party chat when playing with a squad, this even happens on PC with Discord. I believe a small change would impact the way players interact as a whole. Suggestion: Make a button to toggle from party chat to game chat easily. I've played other games on console that offer the ability to switch between the two seamlessly, so I believe it is possible in DayZ. I've also played games that ban party chat in certain playlists, but I think that would deter more casual players from the game. - Let me know what you guys think

    1.18 Experimental Release

unfortunately, it was on a roof where they arced the bombs on top. Maybe roofs arent as viable as they used to be. That probably shouldn't even exist in DayZ, or it should be based on probability (maybe a couple go off in a pile and the rest become a dangerous pile of damaged uxo. From what I've read, it's unlikely for fragmentation explosives to go off like a daisy chain due to their shape and structure. On top of that, it renders the IEDs somewhat pointless because finding grenades is still extremely easy. The blast radius is absurd; you don't even need to aim with that thing. This is what I'm hoping for in future updates. Building is far too limited right now.

    1.18 Experimental Release

I actually probably have saved about that much, but I definitely think this group in particular dupes because they were willing to waste that amount on one raid just to grief my base walls, which were nearly all gated metal. A buddy of mine based in a different town said he killed someone with a bag completely full of them. It was either that group again, or a server hopper bringing them for a raid. Basically the toxic duper clans have become more toxic with their new AOE toy. The scariest thing about the launcher is you dont have to be good at aiming to use it w/ that 12m kill radius.

    1.18 Experimental Release

My base was raided last night. The raiders brought 3 launchers and probably shot somewhere around 40+ explosive rounds from a mountain, hidden in the trees. If I had been in the base, I would have been blown up after the first round or so because of the 12m blast radius. I'd much prefer if they actually had to come closer to destroy my walls

More Advanced Medical Features in DayZ.

I've had similar thoughts. I think the way damage works in pvp situations is in desperate need of attention. When I first started playing, knockouts from shock damage were rare if they occurred at all. Now it seems that they happen every fight, sometimes multiple times in one fight. I no longer feel rewarded for a patient, well placed shot from a distance because the target is likely to be knocked, fall to cover/out of sight, then wake up with %75 hp and full stamina so they can zig-zag away. You're better off shooting someone in the leg or simply spraying and praying from close range with a high rpm weapon. There have been many times I'm knocked out and wake up just as someone is running to finish the job and I manage to spray them down from the prone position. When you take a .308 to your plate-carrier and get knocked down, there should be a probability of cracking a rib, adding sapped stamina or running speed for a duration. In addition to that new status effect, the development of a tension pneumothorax and chest seals/chest darts could be added for more realistic combat trauma. Also, players shouldn't be able to get away with spamming morphine and adrenaline to have an edge in pvp - it's extremely unrealistic and cheesy.
