The Yogcast video sure did ruin the community

Jesse Cox of OMFGcata made a "let's play" of DayZ too since his fans requested it. What did he do? Run around for 45 minutes getting eaten by zombies. And it. was. HILARIOUS! First fifteen minutes of it was in the dark too as he had accidentally chosen a night-time server. Not once did he get to unite with his man-companion wowcrendor. Now I'm not saying the Yogscast should've done it the exact same way: Jesse did it in his style, and I have to say it was a million times better than what the Yogscast did (then again I'm biased as I like Jesse's style better anyway, I got bored of the Yogscast in like 20 episodes). But that's not to say the Yogscast couldn't have actually put some effort into this. I didn't expect a stylish interview/let's play like TB did with Rocket himself. But they could've at least tried to play the game like it was meant to -.- Like get together before they start filming and raid small-towns on a populated server or something, I don't know. Also, those Twitter comments speak a lot imo. For two normal guys who got famous because of MINECRAFT content they sure can't take criticism when they fuck up with some other game. Could've just taken it on the chin and admit they didn't do the best of jobs, but no. -
There will be zeds in the wilderness in the future, so no need for hostile animals imo. Though I would love to see animals react to players i.e. boars running away when they detect you (greatly increased detection compared to zeds). This would actually make hunting hunting and not just running in the woods and stopping to pull out your revolver when there's a static wild boar's ass right in front of your face :D Also reduce the number of farm animals, and you have to actually work for that sweet, blood restoring meat.

If you would actually read the posts rocket has made on the subject, you would know he WILL NOT make the zombies slow. He has said there will be zombies with varying speeds (e.g. malnourished ones) but only headshots kill/all zeds slow etc. is not going to happen. One big reason for this was that having slow zombies would mean greatly increased numbers for them to be a threat, and the current engine just can't handle that. Also, it is not splitting hairs mentioning that they are infected people, not zombies. There's a huge difference, since it makes no sense only headshots would kill living human beings.

I'd pick the FN FAL over AKM any day (if I find enough ammo), mainly because of the superior iron sights, since I only play on veteran servers. I find all of the AK-variants' basic iron sights extremely uncomfortable to use, while the FN FAL provides nice visibility when aiming. Also, a single burst is sure to drop any player (not sure if a single shot does it too, but with a burst you can't go wrong ^^) The question here should rather be: the AKM or AK-74? Are there really any advantages for AK-74 apart from the reduced noise?

These seem pretty good and appropriate for the game, very similar to the current ambient music...maybe you should contact the devteam directly? ^^

So, I was making a run for NW airfield southern barracks on FI1. Now this was kinda stupid of me as I had found a GPS in a deer stand, but I had no decent weapon (I did have the AKS-74 kobra, but only one clip with 20 rounds left and G17 with a couple of mags). I took my time circling the place as I had heard shots, and sure enough when I got inside it was already looted. I did get an extra AK mag from one of the zeds inside the barracks and one for my glock. I started making my way towards the building on the west side of the barracks, since it often spawns some mid-tier military weapons in the little alcove. As I creep towards it I see another survivor come from around the corner. Without hesitation I pump him full of lead on full auto, and he goes down like a bag of meat. I pull out my glock and start running from the horde descending on me, meaning to get in that little alcove and make a stand there. As I come across the corner I realize how bad of an idea it was: there's another survivor prone on the far edge of the open ground, against the fence. He shoots me and I go unconcious with 4k blood. I see him pull half of the zeds off me as he runs for the alcove. There is still hope, however: I'm quickly regaining conciousness and as I get up I kill the ~6 zeds feasting on me. I make a run around the corner where I came from and bandage myself up. I can still hear shooting from the alcove, and instinctively I swap to a frag grenade I had found ages ago. I get to the edge of the building and make the throw. BLAAAAAAANNNNGGGG the explosion shakes the ground and I see my murder count go up to 2. Now I know every damn zed in the area will be on me, so I ran around the buliding into the alcove, swapping to my G17 as I run out of AK rounds. My blood is really low, and as I make it to the alcove there's a HUGE pile of dead zeds and the survivor lying in the corner. I make my stand, and just as I'm about to kill the last zed visible (more are coming, I know it) I miss the headshot and have to reload. He brings me down, and I'm dead. Losing a GPS and the possible sweet loot these two had? Not a problem. My heart was still pounding like crazy, my knees were weak and I was laughing hysterically. Because that grenade kill: one of the most goddamn satisfying things I have EVER done in this game. If that survivor is reading: learn your lesson, and don't leave hostiles alive even if they are unconcious and zeds are eating him ;) This is what DayZ is all about: epic moments no other game is capable of providing.

One word to actually make this worthwhile would be to have some of the items on a survivor destroyed when you shoot them. But then again I don't really see people going for a knock-out when it's so easy to kill...I mean, seriously, creeping up on somebody and meleeing them? Not only is it impossible to get within close range quietly, actually hitting them with something in the ArmA2 engine would be a huge gamble. Maybe if there were tranquilizer guns or something....still, I feel like there are many more important features that need to be implemented rather than this one. -
Won't happen, seeing as the zombies are infected people, not classic zombies (rocket has confirmed this multiple times http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=7597&pid=70225#pid70225). I would suggest people reading through the "rocket said" thread and his posts before making suggestions, because the same ideas come up every other day as "new". Once you choose a server, you stay in it 24/7. Log out= character stays on server!

I have a second copy, it's much less than 30 buks: you only need OA. PS: clans pays MUCH more than 30 buks.. and each month, look at those renting multiple servers. They surely wouldn't be scared to pay $15 for another OA copy (or even $150 for ten of them... while some are doing already, using alternate accounts as "offline tents"). Do not understimate clans dedication (and money "wasting"). Wow, way to take a non-competitive game that seriously. If I put that much time and money into some game, it'd be an e-sports title like SC II, Tribes: Ascend or something like that. Then it might actually matter if you get really good at the game, as you could take part in tournaments and such. -

Never going to happen. Rocket has many times talked about the authenticity of the gaming experience DayZ offers. Adding artificial immunity timers, artificial penalties for killing etc. are a no-go. He has stated this clearly, so there really is no point in bringing this up. -
My initial feelings on Arkaeus' story: Wow that is amazing. My initial reaction to the oppositions "defense": wow they are idiots. My reaction to Arkaeus' and co's childish response and the flamewar that ensued: both sides are idiots, why couldn't you just keep it as it was, an entertaining DayZ story for the community -.-

This will get sorted out with highly increased difficulty I think...when the zombies spawn in the woods, hordes wander the map, food and water are harder to come by (increased difficulty in hunting, meat that will spoil over time, reduced food/soda spawns) and you aren't safe anywhere then survival will be a non-stop issue which will keep players busy. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

Hmmm, I'm generally against scripting in a sandbox like this, or NPCs. Might work if done correctly, but I really don't see this as a feature. Maybe add dead scientists/soldiers/something at random sites and you can obtain notes/audio tapes off of these people and you can learn a bit about the story from them? -
I went down to 156.something once, a zombie broke my legs near Balota and was eating me, I got concious just in time to shoot him and bandage myself, was bleeding like a faucet, lost 80-120 blood with each drop so it was pretty close. The story continues by me crawling all the way over to Cherno (during the night), surviving against dehydration by making it to the store and falling unconcious close to zeds...only to die from crawling through a doorway in a building on my way towards the hospitals :( No screenshots unfortunately, can't be bothered to launch the game via steam so taking screenshots is kind of a pain.

I definitely agree, the survival needs to be so much harder than it is right now. And not just harder, it needs to STAY hard even after you get your gear together. Really hope the focus of the updates will be on buffing the difficulty of PvE, maybe it'll force some of these PKers to either switch to a different game because of frustration or actually start to do some PvE too (mind you, not against PvP but in its current extreme state it really is ruining the game for me).
