In BI games this is UI editor: https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/User_Interface_Editor_%28Arma_2%29 So any displays you look at or dialogs you interact with are UI. This includes (but is not limited to) messages, menus, on-screen pictures. HUD is a term misappropriated from the military. If you cannot recognise players, then why not ask for customisable faces or something practical. Why link to this thesis about on screen UI? How do you think it is applicable to "player recognition elements"? Your initial post is very vague. If you are strawman, it is only because you have set yourself up for it using a FPS thesis as basis for your arguments. -

It only "improves attachment" to 13 year olds. Player progression is in the player stats screen so why duplicate the info in front of my crosshair while I'm playing the game? That's my opinion though and I'll take that over Dices. The messages they put all over the screen are there to massage your ego and serve no particular purpose. If anything, they ruin certain parts of the game (you unrealistically always know when you have killed someone etc) Re: chess & tetris. You don't need a ui for those. A lot of versions of it put pointless ui in to make it look prettier. You can still play without ui. Read my point about if it is NEEDED or not. Re: Thesis. It's okay. They're obv clever guys but I don't lend too much credence to it as it's opinion-based. You should google them as well. Neither of them works for a (big FPS) games studio. Shame they didn't explore "killing immersion through spamming retarded on-screen messages" in their thesis suppression assist 10 last man in squad killed by [x-killah-x] spot bonus 25 squad spot bonus 25 squad suppression assist 10 and so on.... You can't quantify immersion. It's like trying to quantify anger or happiness. An "immersive" game is one that sucks you in because you forget you're sat in a room playing a game. Their thesis falls apart if you transpose it to any game that isn't FPS. Tetris and Chess? No on-screen UI as such and totally absorbing. UI should only tell you what you NEED to know. Nothing more, nothing less. -

Might want to check on the origins forums: http://www.gamersplatoon.com/forums/showthread.php?9083-can-t-play-on-any-dayz-orgins-server This guys prob has something to do with usernames. Looks like they filter out certain combinations. Not sure if this applies to you. -

Have you tried logging into Vanilla Arma 2 MP missions or DayZ 1.7.6.1? Would eliminate/confirm if it's an issue with A2 or DZO. -
I agree but I thought it wasn't put in the game for the sake of realism, just a fun little homage to the Winchester from Shaun of the Dead. So, I'm not really up for chopping it out of the game. Maybe some nice and talented modder will come along and build a Nagant for the mod. I would imagine there's one in SA if opinion polls are anything to go by.

My first ever kill in Dayz was KSK bandit. Spawned in and was meandering up the east coast when I saw him lurking around a house. A few Mak rounds later and I lost my DayZ murder virginity. Might have to go bandit though if it makes a comeback. -

Yeah, they'e too efficient in A2. Needs bigger recoil coefficient or somesuch. The general concept is nice though. Would promote teamwork between gunner and loader. -

I'd like to see some sort of crossover between dog game mechanics and humanity. Like if you've got a dog and you meet another player, the dog can sense if they're evil or whatever and start snarling at them. It is said dogs are a good judge of character so a mechanic like that could reflect that in game. (Obv, you can tell already in the mod by the skin, but maybe for SA).

Well it's built to be about 36" long and I worked off a 3rd projection so I can't really explain why that looks comicallly large to you. Maybe it's my FOV in the video. It's set at about 95 deg. Not at home at the mo but will post up a pic of all the melee weapons next to each other. IIRC it's in proportion to them. Will double check anyway to see if I haven't boobed with the scale somewhere.
