I read in an interview with Dean Hall that 'staying brass' isn't on the menu for Dayz, but is in Arma 3. He was asked about that as well as blood trails (which I think won't make it in either). Hey Mac, How come Addon Signatures are disabled on the server? I joined while running some other mods (was playing ACE before and neglected to disable it). The server didn't kick me and let me play. Tested it a few times with different mods to check and the server let me in every time. Can you enable them please as it's a massive security hole and players can just run whatever mods they want without having to go to the trouble of hacking? (think ESP etc). I should have twigged when I noticed you guys don't use Addon Signatures for the pbo files in dayz.rar. You need this, or this. Cheers. -

I know, I should have just said hitpoints instead of "vehicle penetration system". I remember when you used to be able to blow up a T-72 with a Makarov (provided you put enough ammo in it). -

I asked this question on the Arma 2 forums and got the reply that the bullets the AS-50 uses are specifically anti-materiel (to penetrate engine blocks etc) as opposed to the garden-variety .50 BMG used by the M107. I think it needs to be like this in Arma to work with the vehicle penetration system they have in place. It doesn't make much sense in the world of DayZ though I agree. Either would rip through a human like a hot sword through cheap margarine. Agree as well that the guns are fine and having a 50 cal in game is okay, as long as the downsides are represented. At the moment, these guns have all the pros, but none of the cons. I know some guy posted a video of a soldier firing one standing up, but the guy looked like he was breaking his back. Cons suggested: Heavy More space in inventory Possibly can only sight it up when crouched/prone or deployed bipod) Poss make it a choice between carrying backpack or a 50 cal. Can't reload on the move. Maybe new anims for carrying the thing while moving. Obv it's a lot of work and depends on if there's a stamina system and how the new inventory system works. -
Yes that's quite an interesting little vid. Some of the sounds have been around for years (the irritating GBU explosion in Arma 2 springs to mind) so it will be good to get a fresh sound library to work with. I hope they'll do more to differentiate between the guns though. ATM, the DMR and SVD share a common sound for example. I'd like to see individual sounds for the guns respectively. As for how they mix it, that's really subjective to the listener. I recall the devs for Arma 2 mentioned they mixed everything so if it's loud, then it comes alive. I don't really get to crank up the volume though, so a lot of guns sound flat or crackly at low volume (AK-74 springs to mind). I just hope it's balanced, mixed well and sounds meaty. I've done some mixing before in my heyday (studio recordings) so looking forward to checking it out.

This is true, but commercial project must either record all samples itself or pay for the rights to use them. Sound mods can use samples from films/YT and edit them from there as it is a mod project and doesn't have to worry about IP in the same way as commercial entity. But yes, sound engine upgrade would be welcome. DIstance sounds/echo and indoor reverb only help to add to the atmosphere.

Video was very organic, which is positive. You can see everyone there is enthusiastic and switched on, which really helps give off a good vibe about the project. It was good to see the mocap team as well. It's really interesting to hear them speak passionately about their jobs and it came off really well. From what I saw, they aren't used to appearing in videos, which was a plus as they spoke in a very human way, rather than coming across like some kind of rock-star wannabee (see Pitchford et all). Sneakily, I like this as BI are not very good (personable) in general at public relations imo, and this sort of thing can help push them forward with playerbase interaction. Re the skeletons: From what I read previously, the zombies are to have a simpler skeleton, to help with FPS issues. Will the players have this skeleton too, or will it be different to enable deeper interaction with the environment? Noted some footage in there of zombies being shot (falling over) - will these be put in the game as are, or is it for integration with the rumoured ragdoll engine? I ask because I thought with ragdoll on death, the animations cease and the ragdoll engine takes over. Maybe that's not how it works - I'm not too sure. Also, no mocap for zombies climbing up stairs. Is this handled like it is currently in Arma 2 (where a staircase is effectively a hill). Excellent video though, many thanks and don't crash those Lambos in that snow.

I'd like it if they had one wrecked in a forest somewhere like this one: But only one or it would be cheap. Don't think they'd go to the effort just for one plane though. I wouldn't imagine there would be any airworthy WW2 aircraft after a zombie apocalypse. They have enough trouble keeping them in the air at the moment.

There are two new classes of AS-50 in the new Arma 2 betas. "BAF_AS50_scoped_Large" "PMC_AS50_scoped_Large" They are the same as the normal AS50's but you cannot carry a backpack with them. AI? NPC's? They just spent the past few weeks/months removing all of the "human AI" from the standalone. They would have to put it all back in to have AI characters, unless of course they wanted to use the zombie AI for the human NPC's. Player 1: "These NPC's just run towards you in a straight line shooting. Player 2: "Yes, they should zig-zag like real people" ...

Yes also there's a sound of a door banging in Urban areas when doors aren't free to move. Would like to see moar stuff actually moving with the wind (doors, old newspaper pages etc) -

If you have an i7, it can run 2 threads for every physical core. Apart from G2XPL (obscure program to create photoscenery in x-plane) and some video processing software, I've not seen many programs take advantage of this. Something to do with introducing additional overload by splitting up the work that needs to be done is a law of diminishing returns. Personally, I've switched it off. -

That said, I do like the idea of a mental asylum....
