    Duper bases!!

It depends on the complexity of the base. Some are as simple as using a hacksaw to cut the combination lock off the front gate. The base we attacked as mentioned above had 3 layers of security. Two outer fences surrounding a barn, then barbed wire over the barn doors and then locked gates behind those doors. The first night we cut through two wall layers, but as there was a lot to cut through we needed lots of duct tape to keep repairing the axe. Then we encountered a locked gate behind the barn's side door. So we had to come back another day when we had a hacksaw to cut the lock off. When we returned they'd repaired the walls and we had to start again. The second night however, we managed to jump through a small gap which was the owners entrance. You had to glitch through to get in without cutting anything down. The best base designs are ones that appear to have no entrance. That's what we encountered. We had to keep trying to jump through gaps until the game glitched us through the first barrier to gain access to the centre of the base. It was a good design, because you can't get out once you're inside unless you go to the roof via the towers they'd built and jump to a lower roof on a nearby shed, then down to the ground. We set up an observation post in a house almost 300m away, using hunting scopes to watch the owners coming and going. We watched them for 2 days, waiting till night fall before switching to NV goggles and approaching the base to commit our burglary acts. It was exhilarating.

    Duper bases!!

Me and my closest friend, we've sort of evolved now into unofficial full time base hunters. It's an amazing game to be honest, as I've been raising bases for weeks, some tiny and some huge like the one mentioned above. What I find amazing is, after I come back to a previously raided base, I find it damaged further by other attackers. I'm still to find a base I haven't been able to break into. Last night was the most tense, as we were around 20 meters from the base in the long grass in ghillie suits listening to the occupants at home fumbling around in the dark. About half way through the night it went quiet, so we crept up and found they had logged out. That's when the fun began.

Mine too, if I notice it quickly enough a single tetracycline pill kills the bug. But I'm certain some wells are dirty water sources.

    kas 74U

Well, to be honest I only found one in a military barracks. The others I found in a heavily defended player base I raided 3 days in a row. Each day, they had another in their wooden storage boxes. Surely if you know determined players can get in your base and are using brute force to get in each day, stop leaving valuables in there ?

    Duper bases!!

We found one on Saturday. We've spent 3 days stealing as much of their stuff and damaging their walls enough to make it pointless repairing. We found hundreds of items in the base, it took us a good 40 minutes to break in on day one, during the middle of the night. Several visits later and watching from a distance in ghillie suits, we waited for them to log out. Constantly stealing items or throwing them out into the nearby forest so they would despawn. Finally this morning I finished stealing the remaining loot and destroying their generators. They will have a nasty surprise when they log in today. Sadly they had no rare weapons to steal, but were duping tons of equipment, food and other supplies.

    kas 74U

Update: found 4x KAS74U guns now. They seem to be much more common than the like of other automatic rifles. Finding mags a little hard to find, luckily they use the same mags as the larger variant so I had some in my stash. It's nice to use a smaller gun with the same calibre of round as a larger automatic.

    questions

Hang on, that's just a small garage type of barn. Theres only one way in or out. It might be they just put it there to lure or troll other players. It's the game equivalent of a red herring. I've done the same, such as putting a barrel in the middle of a road, buried bags on the beach, driven cars into places you can't get them out of. Then sit back and watch other players waste time trying to interact with them.

Can’t Reach Rooftop For A Raid! Look Inside.

Yes, usually the bottom steps look like that but you can jump and hug the wall to get up. But when you get a couple of floors from the top those stairs usually have an invisible barrier stopping players so you can't get up them like the ones near the ground floor. There is usually a ladder in the lift shaft, as you go in turn right and it's on the wall adjacent to where you stand. I've never seen a base in my servers on top of buildings like that yet, I can only imagine how frustrating it is getting all the materials up there. Remember to take a hacksaw to get through their locks !

What happened to all the community servers?

I'm hoping by the time the game goes on physical copy release they will fix most people's concerns. Right now the player count seems much lower than when the game came out on the store.
  11. Well, they managed good vehicle physics in Operation Flashpoint and the Arma series, so i expect them to fix it soon. Literally like two days ago I only just noticed they fixed the LOD skip, now I can look in and out of scopes without the world turning white or the scope being blurred for the first few seconds. It happened so unexpectedly that when I started playing after 1.05 dropped it works so smooth now I didn't even notice. As does the vaulting over walls. I'm really happy with the direction the game is going, I just wish BI fixed these issues before the game came out, we might have kept a higher player count than we do now.

No, filling my military canteens at them. It may just be that I recently took a hit from a Z before going about my business and coincidentally the bug symbol came on at the right time making it look like I got it from the well. I can't be sure, this is my primary way of keeping hydrated so hopefully it's not the case.

Yes the NV wont turn on unless you have a universal flash light. But the flash light doesn't require to be turned on or even have a battery. It makes no sense. But if you have a NV headstrap they work fine.

Running from what exactly ? Like a river? Like I said I thought a village well would guarantee clean water. They're what i use the most. But I have at least twice caught a bug from them. If it's true, it would seem there isn't a perfectly clean water source in the game. Wells are possibly very low chance of being contaminated but there is a risk, imo unless someone could gladly correct me.

Yes you can empty onto the ground. I've not needed to myself or tested it, but my friend does it all the time. Btw I've used a military canteen before which I've considered clean, filled it up at a village well to find the water from the well carried disease also. I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this ? I always thought village wells were guaranteed safe.
  16. I can understand why you wouldn't want to do so on a public server. The reassuring thing is, BI know how to develop good car mechanics so I expect the car physics to be fixed soon.

    Aim Assist???

To be honest I don't think it works against other players at all. Following my last reply, I asked my friend to stand still this time to test it. It did nothing, so it works on zombies only. It doesn't work on players or when shooting animals such as deer or pigs. Unless someone corrects me and shows it works.

Thats usually my concern. If I do that, I usually wait until night time and cook it in a fireplace of a house. Theres less people roaming around and I can lock myself in a house, therefore nobody can sneak up on me.

Well it sounds like you picked a good server if you got no crashing or blue screening. I'm having the same, the game is very stable for me at the moment. If you can't find anything by running on the beach, it means you're probably following someone who is doing the same. I usually always run with the beach on my right, so I always end up in the north. The beaches around the north east coast are usually full of food and drinks, by the time you reach the most northerly village of Berezkhi you'll have tons of supplies and can start heading inland. The best thing to do is find a water bottle, or military canteen. I always carry two or three on me and never run out of drinks and theres always a well in a village you can top up from. I would also suggest you eat all your food you find until you're full. Then carry two cans of beans, bacon, peaches etc. They'll last you a good few hours of game time. I do disagree though that hunting animals is the best. For me it isn't, first you have to find the animal, then kill it, skin it before then looking for supplies to cook it. That's too much fooling around for me. I'd rather just keep a knife on me and use it to open tinned food, requires virtually no preparation.

Theres so many bugs right now it's almost funny. The current annoying one for me is you can't use you NV goggles without a universal flashlight attached to your tactical helmet. Even though it doesn't need a battery to work. A lot of these bugs are reported online but people don't talk about them on the forum as they're not a massive deal.

    Blue Screen of Death

To be honest guys, I've been around longer than most gamers. I've played Bohemia games for almost 20 years now. They have always been this way. It doesn't mean they don't care, it just means they'd rather spend more time working on the issues tha replying to us. Modern day gamers have it a little too comfortable. Usually when a bug rears its head in a game by a bigger developer they're usually quick to fix it. However with Bohemia, they're a much smaller team and often take longer to fix an issue. I'm not totally defending them, but imagine if you were the BI employees tasked with answering questions on this forum, you'd never get a rest from people asking when something is going to be fixed when you can't always get the answers yourself. I think even with all the issues, I'm patient with Bohemia. Unlike other developers, they've always been fair with me. Unlike companies like EA and Rockstar, who have actively banned me from playing their games or taken my money and given me much worse support than BI ever have. Rockstar for example, banned me from GTAV because I was too good at the game. I was getting reported by other players too regularly because they couldn't beat me, so they actually banned me from playing online from a product I'd paid to play !

It's a known bug and we reported it to them in August once we built a base on a private server. I'm sure they will fix it in an upcoming update.

    character creation screen

Correct. It only works following you respawning. To be honest the character creation option wasnt necessary. Just like the change in bleeding, dead bodies and flies, not being able to pick your character was part of the Dayz experience and for me is what keeps a fresh spawn, umm fresh. Character creation is moving away from the original Dayz experience, imho of course.

    Aim Assist???

It's not actually that bad. I tried it and barely noticed it against a player or my friend. The aim assist is very obvious at close range however, as your entire look will gravitate towards the centre of the mass of the enemy. For example I raided a military checkpoint and set off the zombies, I usually climb onto the concrete road blocks and shoot them in the head as they stand growling below me. With aim assist on, as I tried to aim for head shots it fights against you to go for body shots.
  25. Racing? That's brave. I just slam on the breaks if the lag starts, at least I know when it passes I should come to a complete stop.
