The game just updated this morning to version 1.09.153419 and you may be trying to connect to a server that has yet to update to this exact version (i.e. they are on a previous 1.09 version). The version numbers must match exactly to connect. Beyond that, since you say you reinstalled, if you had a "My Documents\DayZ" folder present from before, I would delete that folder, also delete "\%your username%\AppData\Local\DayZ" folder, then verify your game files and try again. You'll have to redo your settings after this though. Also, make sure you're not opted into the beta in Steam because DayZ doesn't use that anymore -- Experimental is its own program now.

New loot respawn timers are next level stupid
drgullen replied to Futurist's topic in General Discussion
I don't know about the hour queue, but I agree that the 48 hours is pretty dumb. I've changed my habits in terms of dropping loot I don't want anymore. I now drop it into the inventory of one of the dead infected -- it vanishes real quick that way. -
I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the 1.09 loot economy and I have to concur. I played yesterday (and I've been playing this game since 2015 so I know what I'm doing) and my first 3 lives of the day ended with me starving to death, each time I might add having cans of food on me without finding a single knife or melee weapon, so I had no means to open them. On my 4th life, I finally found a steak knife and I was golden from then on. If retaining items in the world for 2 days is the new normal (which I think is a mistake personally), I'd like to suggest that you add a mechanic whereby you can smash open a can of food against a rock. You could use the already implemented mechanic of smashing a pick axe or sledgehammer against said rock to chip off some stones. You could also have it that opening the can this way guarantees that you will lose a random amount of the contents, maybe between 25% and 75%, as would happen if you did this IRL. I do enjoy the challenge of PvE survival, but it seems a bit ridiculous to me to be dying of starvation with cans of food in my inventory.

Server issue with placing any object anywhere
drgullen replied to RoxofoxeR's topic in Troubleshooting
I wonder if it could be your persistence folders? Did you wipe the server before updating it? As a test, shut down the server and then move the persistence folders (cut and paste them somewhere else). Now, start up the server and try to place something. If you can now, repeat this test but with the original persistence folders back in place. If it doesn't work again, it means there's something corrupted in there and you'll unfortunately have to wipe the server. -
My understanding is loot that was on your corpse will despawn after 1 hour, but dropped loot, for example a backpack stashed in a bush somewhere, will last for 48 hours now. I have proven this myself as a test -- I stashed a Mosin in a bush near Devil's Castle and sure enough, about 42 hours later, it was still there. This is another issue I have with retaining the loot for this long -- it takes away from valuing your life if you can just stash all your shit and pick it back up next life.

Well this is the beauty of DayZ, right? We all have different play styles and we all have things we like and don't like. I personally don't like it. Retaining items for this long is having too negative an impact on the loot economy, IMO. In my experience so far, if you don't immediately head inland from your spawn point on the coast, your chances of survival are very low because no knives or melee weapons are spawning in coastal towns or if they are, they've been looted and are probably being stored somewhere by players which prevents more from spawning on the coast for 2 days. I think the change was a bit too drastic. Two loot cleanups a day (i.e. retain it for 12 hours, not 48 hours) seems better to me.

I would just start with official vanilla servers to get a sense as to what has changed since you last played. 1.09 went to Stable today, so might as well check that out before you start adding any mods. After that though, DayZ Expansion is pretty cool as it adds a variety of things, like modded weapons and flyable helicopters. There's also some great custom maps out there like Deer Isle which is my favorite. With the new patch going Stable, some of the mods may need to be updated first though, which is why I suggest for the next few days at least, stick to non-modded servers.

There's definitely some lingering bugs that have not been fixed. Hand state issues (i.e. things stuck in your hands) and inventory issues as you've described -- sometimes you are just forced to relog and most of the time, when you log back in, whatever bug is happening is resolved. Try that next time.

That's a great idea! Let's get them to shut down Google, Microsoft and Apple too please. Then we can all move to Linux and life will be grand! 👍

I believe some of the .c code is embedded in the PBO files if I'm not mistaken. You need to download DayZ Tools from Steam to mess with those. I ran a server previously, but the only editing I did was to my init.c and the xml configuration files. I never messed with any of the PBO files so I'll have to defer to someone else for that.
-
Yeah not sure, that's looks okay. I would check for syntax errors in TM/Trader/scripts/5_Mission/mission\missionserver.c and also read through this that pertains to a different type of null pointer to instance but some of the suggested resolutions in this thread may pertain to your issue as well: https://github.com/Da0ne/DZMods/issues/56 Sorry I could not be of more help.
-
Okay, I was hoping for line numbers as well. 😜 Which one of those is line 94?
-
Can you paste the section of your init.c around line 94? Like maybe 10 lines before and after?
-
Yeah and bring back .62 while you're at it! 😜 I'm teasing, yeah I'd agree, that sky looks better than the 1.x skies.

Couldn't agree more. Shoes are getting damaged much too quickly on 1.09. I get that it's supposed to be a survival game and you'd eventually have to repair or replace your shoes, but I should at least be able to travel through several towns before they reach "Badly Damaged" status -- having to do it constantly is tedious. Plus now with the latest Exp. patch, you could spawn with the shoes already badly damaged, so your feet may already be bleeding before you've even found any duct tape or replacement footwear. That isn't survival, that's just silly.

@ImpulZ Great update here, but what about broken bones? Can you confirm at least that there is still intention on the part of the devs to add that at some point?
-
If done right, I really don't think it would ruin the game. It would have to be a quality implementation though in that, as @Derleth has just said, they should do everything a real player would do -- loot, be stealthy sometimes, take damage, bleed, bandage, have to hydrate and energize themselves, etc. If they were implemented in such a way that it was very difficult for you to tell from a distance whether they are AI or not, I think it could be good. @Parazight I don't think it would affect performance if they were only used as a replacement for empty server slots. As I said earlier, as real people join the server, the number of AI start to reduce. If it's approaching full slots, then there'd be no AI at all. But yeah, if they add hundreds of them in addition to infected spawning then performance would tank for sure. It'll be interesting to see the reception that servers get with this in play.

Personally, I like the idea of AI bandits but I definitely do NOT like the idea of "missions". To me, having missions takes away from the true nature of DayZ itself. There's only one mission in a pure game of DayZ -- survive. What I like about this is that if they can get the bugs ironed out of the AI and if they aren't derpy like the infected are, this could be a way to guarantee an "always full" server. If there's only 10 real players on the server for example, you could have 50 AI bandits spread out across the map and then every time a new player joins, one of the AI perhaps vanishes, thus keeping the total number of "non-infected" on the server (i.e. real players + AI) to around 60 or whatever that server's max is. In the video, they talk about mission zones and going to a specific AI to "pick up your mission" and "return the collected item to that first AI". I don't like any of that -- to me, that's trying to turn DayZ back into Arma III. Just add the AI and let them roam the map.

Telling the devs to fix something on here is literally the equivalent of talking to a wall. Put in a Bug Tracker for it otherwise ain't never gettin' fixed.

Public (and press) reception of DayZ in 2020
drgullen replied to emuthreat's topic in General Discussion
Yet another example of how shitty people who call themselves "journalists" or "reporters" are these days. I hope someone from BI contacts this guy and sets him straight. -
I hope you've put this in the Bug Tracker because if you're right about this, it's a major issue for sure and just posting it here won't get it fixed.
-
Well, if you Google that error message, it seems to have something to do with your launch parameters in Steam.
-
It depends on where you shoot them and what you shoot them with, similar to a human. If you have a powerful gun and headshot them, they should drop on the spot (well, except for bears). If you hit them in the rear end on the other hand, you may only damage them, but they start to bleed and since they can't bandage, they run away but eventually bleed out and die.

Let's be honest here, Bohemia have never been very good at communicating. Personally, I'm just glad they're still working on it. I seriously doubt we're going to get three more updates in 2020, if we get one and say two in 2021, that would be great. To be more specific, if we could get broken bones back in and maybe the bow and arrow and then just fix as many of the lingering bugs as possible before you call it "finished", I'd be happy -- everything else can be modded back in over time.

...unless they're bugged in your hands. 😋
