    DayZ Livonia PC Open Beta

    Thank you so much Bohemia for this surprise Open Beta -- I knew Livonia was coming, but wasn't expecting to play it in October that's for sure! The new map is awesome. Yes, many of the assets are the same as Chernarus, but it definitely feels like a completely different map. I haven't encountered a bear myself, but saw the clip of TheRunningManZ and his mates finding one and it looked scary AF, especially how big it looked and how quickly it attacked. They could hear it a good ways away in the distance too. If you were alone and it attacked, you're basically dead. Very cool. The only thing I really didn't like was the gun sway while looking through a scope. I think this needs tweaking. You have reverted back to how it was in .63 it seems, except even with your breath held, the gun is still moving off target by itself. I would like to see both of those nerfed a bit and when I hold my breath, at least while I still have stamina, I should be able to hold dead steady on a target for a few seconds. This may just be a bug, but if it's intended, it's a bit much. It was so fun to be completely lost on a map again!

    https://dayz.gamepedia.com/Weapons Some of the info here is outdated I believe, but it'll get you going at least. In some cases, especially if you're playing modded servers, it's just trial and error. You find a mag, you loot it and if you're not sure, put your gun in your hands and try to attach it. Same thing with ammo. Learn as you loot kind of thing. Of course, sometimes the game bugs out and won't attach the mag even when it's the right mag! 😋

    Enable Crossplay

    This has been covered ad nauseam in this forum. The devs have already stated that crossplay is not something that they are considering currently, nor should they, since there is plenty of work left to be done in balancing, bug-fixing and feature additions. Once we get stable cars on full servers, other means of transportation like bicycles, improved base building, boats and helis, bows and arrows, broken bones, fishing and more PvE options -- all on a game that is balanced and stable to the point that I don't have to relog every hour to fix a sound bug or a "stuck in my hands" bug or whatever, at that point, it will be time to work on crossplay. In other words, it ain't happenin', brah.

    Footwear Wear & Tear

    I like @EzyStriderPS4's idea of adding a "Fair" level of item degradation. I think that, along with perhaps spawning shoes/boots a bit more often as "Pristine" would prolong the life of the items nicely. The extra level would also help with clothing getting ruined from hits by the infected as that can get annoying quickly as well when the shirt/pants you looted only 10 minutes ago is now listed as "Badly Damaged" after encounters with a few infected.

    Unless it was a coincidence, it sounds like that action of attaching them crashed the server. Did you put in a bug tracker for that? I'm gonna try and do the same thing (the next time I find them that is) and see what happens.

    Yeah, I personally don't want this. If the servers could handle hundreds of players and infected and dozens of cars and everything was a-chugging along smooth as butter, then fuck yeah, the bigger map, the better. Sadly as we all know, this isn't the case, so I think smaller maps more suitable to 60-poppers is the way to go.

    Baseparts decay after 45 days

    No, this would not be a better way. You think server owners want to be bothered combing through logs looking for that? I don't think so. You have to look at it as your base needing maintenance at least once a month or so. As IMT said, remove some nails and put some fresh ones in -- that resets the counter, so you're good for another 45 days. I don't see what's so wrong with that system.

    Neither of you have mentioned this here, so I'll ask -- have you tried deleting both your /My Documents/DayZ folder and your /AppData/Roaming/DayZ folder? Some information related to the characters is stored in there. Doing this will of course delete all your current characters, but may help solve the problem. Your keybinds and other settings will get wiped as well, so you'll have to set those up again.

    Even though I basically agree, the problem is that people will get frustrated and leave the server in favor of a "we've got all de loots" server. If you think of it in terms of the map size, 150 IJ70s is an average of 1 every 1.5 km2 -- I agree the number should be lowered, but if it was dropped to 40 as EzyStrider suggests, that would be 1 every 5.6 km2 -- that's a hell of a lot of running just to find a shitty pistol. You have to be careful when tweaking these kinds of things not to go too far the other way.

    How do you handle other survivors?

    Unfortunately, it happens a lot this way, which is really a shame. I play like this: If he has a gun in his hand, I approach with one in mine. I will tell him I'm friendly and ask him to put his gun away. If he does, I'll do the same. If he doesn't, I fire. If he doesn't have a gun in his hands, I raise my hand to say hello, tell him I'm friendly and not going to kill him and see how he responds. If he doesn't pull out a gun, it's potentially the beginning of a team up. If he does, I'll whip mine out and blast him. If I don't have any guns on me, I try to avoid others at all costs until I have found a pistol at least. As McWendy says, it's DayZ and you'll end up getting killed from something -- but not everyone plays this as if it's PUBG or CoD, so there are definitely friendlies out there -- just keep looking for some and you'll eventually find them.

    This is a good point and one that I hadn't considered. If you ran into enough empty gas stations, you'd be saying "F this server" in no time. I agree though that before we worry about this, we need cars that don't suddenly turn into catapults when a server lag spike hits.

    I agree with you about some of the industrial areas. As for me, I've always thought there should have been more use of the vast amount of sea/ocean in the game. The shipwreck at Rify, for example, should maybe be further out to sea and submerged with some high-end loot at the bottom that you have to swim for. I know most people don't bother swimming to Skalisty and/or the Prison Islands anymore, but a few more islands or objects not far from the coastlines (like maybe 100-200m offshore) would create some interesting and risky loot locations. Having said all that though, I'd actually rather have them developing different maps. Livonia will be interesting at first, but I think is going to have a very similar look and feel to Chernarus, just that much smaller. Namalsk I think will be one that'll be a bit more different, so I'm looking forward to that. What would be really nice is a different setting altogether, including a completely new set of all buildings in a new location, perhaps just a very large city and surrounding area, something like how GTA does it with Los Santos based on Los Angeles and its surrounding hills. I'm completely biased because I live here, but an area such as Vancouver, Canada that has multiple cities, some connected by bridges, four seasons of weather, plus a large island not far to the west that we could travel to. This would, ahem, of course, *cough* mean we'd need them to develop either a helicopter or a boat to get there! So I guess, scratch that idea! 😋 As for changing Chernarus though, I don't think the devs should work on that. At this point, it is what it is. I think a brand new map for DayZ would be better.

    What do you guys do as solo players?

    See, to me, this is the beauty of DayZ -- I get to use my imagination and play however I feel like playing. I might have had a shitty day at work and I'm in a "shooty" mood, so I seek out dudes to kill, pretending like each one of them is my asshole boss. Other days, I'm in the mood for an adventure and explore with my guns put away and my hand ready to raise and say hello. If I can find a friendly, we team up and maybe the two of us (or more if we meet others) decide to put a car together so that we can go for a nice flight, er, umm, drive around Chernarus! One time, I held a guy up, tied him up, took his shit and then we played trivia questions where he got one item back for each correct question and one strike for each incorrect question -- three strikes and you're dead. He did well on the questions, so I ended up giving him all his shit back and we teamed up for a while. Others in this thread have made good suggestions as well, like building bases, like finding a good place to stash loot for a rainy day, like hunting some animals, building a fire and cooking them for plenty of sustenance in the hours/days ahead for your current character. DayZ is what you make of it -- that's why I love the game even in the flawed, buggy, incomplete state that it's currently in. EDIT: While writing this, I was watching Paul (a.k.a. TheRunningManZ) streaming and he had teamed up with a random guy he'd met and they got into some bandit-like adventures.     Okay well, be aware that changing those values in the types.xml file doesn't necessarily mean the cars will spawn with that door attached. You have to look in cfgeventspawns for that since the car is listed in there with a bunch of random chances of having the various bits spawn attached to the car. This is why every time you find a car, it always has a different set of things either attached or missing. At the beginning of this thread, you said: "Ever since, I have not seen the ADA right side door anywhere, in storage units, garages, factories..." so that's what changing the values in types.xml should do -- by turning off the other car parts and increasing the value of the right side door, you should now see a bunch of doors spawning in the world, but not necessarily spawning already attached to the car. I hope that made sense.

    Were you playing on a modded server? There are definitely issues with certain loot causing frame drops on modded servers from my experiences.

    I honestly don't know what to tell you. This is a weird one you have here. The spawning of the doors in the world should have nothing to do with persistence -- things only go into the persistence files once they've been touched by a player, so you should be seeing at least some doors spawning. As a temporary test, you could try changing some of the values in the types.xml related to these doors -- set the min and nominal values to 0 for all the other doors and parts of that car and for the right side door, set it to something high, like 100 min and nominal. Make sure you backup your types file first of course. You should see plenty of right-side doors with that change, but if you still don't, I would try verifying your server files with Steam as perhaps one or more files are corrupted or missing which would account for it. Doing this might overwrite any files you've modified, so take backups of them before you do it just in case. Sorry, don't know what else to suggest at this point.

    You realize this contradicts what we've been told by BI themselves, right? This might be true as of now, but as "new engine DayZ" was being developed over the past couple of years, according to Eugen Harten, the team was comprised of approximately 80 people. If you look in the development logs on dayz.com from around November 2018, you'll see reference to this fact -- they state that the team has I believe they said 86 people and that the team would remain intact going into 2019. So, yeah, what you state here is incorrect.
