Once you've logged on, the next time you go to menu it will show that character. I think it just resets when you quit the game.
-
I can't imagine it being fixed before Christmas but fingers crossed for you. I'd just play on a different server till. they fix it

Like I say, I read it that dayz is set on the first few weeks of the pandemic. The bodies piled up suggest that. Who put them there? Other survivors? Maybe people who succumbed to the virus. Either way, plenty of fuel left in the garages because most people are dead or infected.
-
There would be cars everywhere in perfect working order, without any missing parts. If I don't drive my car for a couple of weeks, it still starts first time. Sure, there would be some old bangers you might have trouble with, and a few cars that have had some parts stripped off them. But dayz takes place very soon after some sort of pandemic. Vehicles haven't been stood for years. And we're also talking about pretty basic Russian cars here, no engine management systems. We're talking about replacing a spark plug, a radiator and maybe a couple of wheels. I'd be driving.

Just sounds to me like cholera. Easy to forget that you haven't chlorinated the water or some such thing. I guess we've all done it before. I once went to empty a bottle and drank some of it by accident. Anyway, doesn't seem to be a bug, more likely just forgot to sterilise the water.

I wouldn't personally want to see helicopters in the game anyway. Basic car maintenance on the other hand doesn't take much to change a radiator or spark plug.

Error Data base servers Br Official Br 002, 003
DayzDayzFanboy replied to Mths's topic in General Discussion
I don't think cheating is the answer. You have the same advantage as everyone else does. They're are plenty of ways to make your loot safe without cheating. -
@VodkaFish I honestly don't think it is broken. In real life it would be harder to build something than to smash your way through it. I also think that if one person or clan has all the high tier loot stashed in an impregnable location then nobody eke on the server has a chance. To build some of the things you're suggesting such as vault rooms would be quite an undertaking in an apocalypse. And even then, given the right tools and a bit of determination it could be breached.

Help with detaching gas stove from cooking pot
DayzDayzFanboy replied to Correspondente's topic in New Player Discussion
You need to cook meat with fat. You can boil it of course but this yields slightly less nutrician. The big fires in houses are the best as you can cook two meat and smoke four more at the same time without the need for pans or fat. Also, no washing up afterwards! -
You can get into a base in half an hour with the right tools. Most people I think just don't bother because they haven't got inventory space to carry all the tools and even if you do get in, most of the time there is nothing worth stealing because anyone with any common sense will hide their decent loot somewhere else.

Broken Nutrition/Hydration mechanics
DayzDayzFanboy replied to Private Evans's topic in General Discussion
On a side note, if anyone that thinks dayz is hard, they should try The Long Dark. -
I think bases are harder to breach than they would be in real life. If two people are present, you could easily just give a leg up and climb the wall. Given the right tools such as a crow bar or sledge hammer, a wooden fence or gate would be easy to breach. Combination locks can be cut with a hacksaw. So I think in all honesty, the game makes it realistically difficult. You can also shoot through fences, so I guess that may be what happened? Like I say, better to hide loot than build a big fort around it to attract attention.

How do you activate the Weapon Flashlight
DayzDayzFanboy replied to Doc4975's topic in New Player Discussion
Iirc you just pull the trigger whilst holding the weapon. Just make sure you're not aiming at the time -
Broken Nutrition/Hydration mechanics
DayzDayzFanboy replied to Private Evans's topic in General Discussion
I think it's just one of those things that people will never agree on. Some want it harder, some don't. I guess I play however/whatever the state of the game is. If it was totally realistic you could get away with a tin of beans every couple of days. But then, there needs to be a reason to travel and loot. Its a mechanic. It isn't realistic that you can run up a mountain with a huge backpack but it would be rather frustrating if you couldn't. I think the fact that there are so many private servers with adjusted loot at least gives people that choice. I enjoyed playing on Don Sibleys hardcore server with one fifth loot. Surviving the first night was a massive achievement and all the more rewarding for it. -
Just in water. Very hard to spot unless you're stood in front of it and even then you'd have to be actively looking for it to spot it.
-
Yeah I know, but I prefer barrels in water purely so I don't have to carry a shovel.
-
I've never had a barrel stash found. Ever. They are virtually impossible to find unless you know exactly where to stand. Buried loot is too easily spotted. But you could be stood virtually next to my barrels and not find it. Bases can be spotted a long way off. And if someone spots it, they'll want in and it doesn't matter how well built it is, they'll get in eventually. Especially a squad. I can hide barrels on the costal hotspots and they won't be found.

Barrels in rivers. You're welcome 😄

Help with detaching gas stove from cooking pot
DayzDayzFanboy replied to Correspondente's topic in New Player Discussion
Hmm not sure what the issue is. I just select the actual pot itself and press X to send it to my inventory. As long as you have 12 slots available it should just go across -

Presents appear anywhere, with or without a tree. The trees look cool at night, though I've yet to see one this year -
Broken Nutrition/Hydration mechanics
DayzDayzFanboy replied to Private Evans's topic in General Discussion
@Private Evans right, I get what you're saying now. It's certainly quite compelling and it looks like you've thoroughly tested it. I suppose when I think about it, food tends to be my main focus starting off and I don't seem to worry about hydration as much. You're right, not game breaking, but odd. You can certainly live longer without food than you can without water irl. I'm still wondering if it's down to temperature though? If you're cold, burning more calories. Maybe now (for science) you could repeat the test, but in a house so you're temperature gauge is white. -
I like the idea of base building but I'd prefer to be able to just pick an apartment somewhere and board up the windows. It's quite a while since I indulged in any sort of base building, and that just involved hiding a couple of barrels in water. I remember watching an old DeadlySlob survival series where he did this. I think barrels were quite rare then but I liked the idea of low profile existence out in the wilds.
-
It may have been highly populated before you came on I guess? Also worth remembering that loot stays on the ground much longer now which could be affected detrimentally by people loot cycling maybe? It's always funny though that people are always looking for the thing that you get sick of stumbling across. Now when I'm looking for an item I tell the game I'm looking for a pea coat!

Broken Nutrition/Hydration mechanics
DayzDayzFanboy replied to Private Evans's topic in General Discussion
@Private Evans I only play solo and on official servers. We're trying to help you, so sorry that you feel the need to be sarcastic in return. Fruit and pepper will give you far more hydration as they have a high water content and low calorie content. That's why your hydration will stay higher than nutrician. Everyone on this thread is giving good advice. Get warm clothing as the cold will burn more calories. Also, you don't need matches to make a fire, you can make a fire drill with tree bark and a stick. There is also no need to walk everywhere. I try not to sprint until I have plenty of food, but jogging is fine. You'll never get anywhere walking. You just need to be very thorough looting. I would guess that one in five infected drop food. Greenhouses and rowing boats are worth checking as well as houses. As others have suggested, watch some YouTube videos for beginners. But honestly, once you get the hang, it isn't that hard to get started. -
Broken Nutrition/Hydration mechanics
DayzDayzFanboy replied to Private Evans's topic in General Discussion
I don't think it is broken, I'm pretty sure it's working as intended if I understand you correctly. It's my understanding that prior to this update, your apple would show as full but you could still eat a ton more before you actually were full. Now, it only fills the apple when you pretty much are full. I find that I need to eat a fair amount before the apple fills, but once it does you're good to go.
