You can eat the meat raw, but it's a bad practice because diseases will be implemented in the future and it will cost you badly. So you need to cook it on fire or in a pot. Make fire with wood stick or logs + bark or rags. Add logs if you want to keep the fire going for longer. Cut a long stick from a bush with knife / axe. Use the "Micro management" button to place the food in the slot, inside the long stick. It will not do it automatically like other items. Then aim the stick on fire, long press to cook until done. To cook in a pot (boil): You should fill the pot with clean water Add raw food items (meat / veg / fruit ) Make a fireplace, but dont light it up yet - Carry it in your hand and place it inside an indoors fireplace (in some houses). Light it up, and put the pot on top. Indoors fireplaces have space to store logs, so you can chop more trees and store them it you plan long fires. * Not sure if pot cooking is available yet on xbox, will try it soon though. This game is half empty and yet - it blew my mind. And I'm talking about XBox version (Paid Trial version), with all the known bugs and incomplete features. I was so frustrated in the first 48 hours, looking for answers on forums, wikis and youtube, looking for some explanations about what can I do in general and what functions are not working on the current trial version. I have many basic questions like how-to's and even more simple questions (maybe silly ones) like why isnt there night, camping, base building and what to do except for running all the time. But I got it now (thanks for youtubers, or guys like Minder who took it to a new level of RPG fun). Also, it could have been useful if there was list of working/not working features especially for noobs like me that are unfamiliar with DayZ's in-game depth. I urge the company to invest more in updating the Wiki, its really hard to find relevant info to the latest version, and there is so much to take in. If it could be done, I believe it would help alot of players. As for the game itself: A wonderful adventure. I have spent so much time in this since Friday, and I can't wait for the official version. Well done!

I loaded a Mosin rifle with 5 bullets, fired one shot, the rest of the 4 bullets are still in the internal magazine, can't shoot any more bullets. While having 4 bullets stuck, if I load a single bullet from my bag (combine), I can fire it. How do I reload the rifle? is the magazine jammed or is it a bug?

Thank you for releasing the update! My inventory now works better - Items just go wherever there's available space, without hassle. Cheers guys EDIT: I quit the game for 30 min, logged back in, and my USG45 rifle was dropped on the floor. It was invisible, but was visible in my "vicinity" window. However, I could not interact with it - cannot pick it up or it's mag / silencer / scope.

I am familiar with the history and evolution of DayZ. Did not play anything but DayZ. Just saying that today DayZ is well recognized and have a huge fan base of players - the active players, new players and those who tasted it 5 years ago and are eager to play it on it's full version, depths and glory that it deserves. Nothing more ;)

Mods are only a reaction of the community to a disappointment or lack of content in any game. If DayZ will live up to our expectations - most of the Mods will not be needed by anyone. Of-course, there will always people who will look to improve/change their game-play with mods, it's only natural. Plus, remember that BI is trying to get a fresh start for the game with a new engine, so a lot of the contents needs to be re-designed/re-animated/re-think'ed over. You can take for example the new controller for the game, I believe this was done as a first step to make PC and Consoles interface and control look and feel the same.

Any news on a new update for xbox this week? Also, when should we expect to have some of the missing content? I need to re-organize my life, so a basic timetable from BI would be mostly appreciated ?

Currently the game doesn't give you a real purpose or any kind of End Game. So you can be the friendliest teddy bear on Chernarus, but once you get all geared up and realize you cannot build anything - you just lose purpose. Morality and imagination becomes an option only, instead of a being real and a crucial factor. Add to that the server hopping problem that allows you to harvest any location, you can get fully geared in about an hour, and go on hunting players. Once the servers will be stable, we will be able to play a stable and continuous game, then add bug fixes and missing animations, then get time moving (should be done ASAP/yesterday in my opinion) + get missing content + get night stuff working, and maybe then ... I believe that resetting all players on the next stable update AND also when 1.0 comes out, would be nothing but fair.

Same here. My USG45 and M4 and canteen got duplicated in the last 2 days, each time it was a different item. I'm guessing it duplicates the last item I was holding/using and maybe related to the a problem that the server is not registering the changes in your character sometimes.

Had same problem with those yellow "Protected Boxes". When you throw them out, they sit on the branches of the tree, not ground. And since they are big yellow boxes, they are like Christmas lights on daylight...

I noticed it too. when I open my inventory, there is a lag / delay, the game freezes for a second or two. Which is terrible, it could cost you everything if you don't predict this. My character is alive for a long time and inventory is almost maxed out. A friend of mine just joined DayZ yesterday and was experiencing the same problems with the kinder school backpack and a can of spaghetti. I did not have this problem prior to the reverted-update (playing this since day of release) on the other hand, can't prove that, so it's only a speculation. We both use X Box One.

In PC you could find an Ashwood tree, if you chop it down you'd find a Long Stick. In XBox you can cut down a bush to get a Long Stick. You can't craft bows with it yet in the current version, but it can be used to roast meat & fruits on the fire pit.

After 30+ hours I opened the radio on first channel (87.8 i think), ran for hours and climbed mountains trying to get some broadcast. So I climbed to the top of an antenna, located on the top of this cool mountain and after like 10 minutes I started to hear loud static noise, dunno if it was a bug, but it sounded like someone is talking but all u hear is loud white noise. Then, I wanted to "think big", and dragged large batteries in my Alice backpack across town to power up some PA's to scare people but cant put the batteries in. So now I'm recruiting my friends to join DayZ, nothing else to do for now, except for dancing with the wolves (which are amazing, especially how they surround you, Respect - BI)

I understand that some players are proud of themselves for being able to memorize many parts of Cherno, but maps are required for smart, long term survival, for trade and for social meeting points. Using a navigation tool such as maps and markers is a basic survival skill. Imagine that you could get a map (or create/copy a partial map), mark a path on it and share it with friends. I haven't played on PC for years so I never used tents and camps, but the way I see it: maps + camps is only logical.

This could be useful if you could open the map in a GUI and use a marker/pen/whatever to mark your paths and mark points of interest. But for the existing maps - I would expect atleast a mark on the map that says You Are Here. Could save you 5 precious minutes of being exposed.
