You shouldn't say friendly, because you don't know if the other person is...and even if he says he is, you often can't trust them, bandits lie. In real world, if you woke up on an island and you see a guy with a gun in his hands, would you run to him with a paper sign (typing equivalent) saying "i'm friendly" ? You have voice chat when you get within a certain range from him (about 40-50 meters I think) ... get a mic and press CAPS LOCK and keep it pressed while talking. So if you really want to risk it go prone or on the other side of a barn where he is and chat with him and ask him to lower his gun or switch to hatchet so you won't get shot. If you see him trying to find you or raising him gun, be prepared to press C and leg it out of there.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

See this page: http://dayz.sykotix.com/arma-ii-beta-client-install/ Copy that script in the main folder of ARMA2 OA and run the game from the script. In the bottom right corner of the page it should say the build version 93965 if you installed the beta correctly. But download the latest beta from http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php there's a newer one there. Or get the 6 updater from dayz site and start mod from the updater.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Oh man... just went through 3-4 hours of adrenaline and stress. I was in Msta and got injured enough to be left with about 3k life, the food was getting red and i had no food in my pack. Basically went Dolina - Shakhova - factory - Polana - Gorka - Dubrovka (and the buildings to its left side) and throughout all the barns and buildings I found only 3 cans of food. Polana was empty...well it had a watch and revolver ammo and two czech packs. And Coke and Pepsi. Coke, Pepsi are EVERYWHERE. Zombies drop them, I found them so much I had about 10 of them in the backpack. 30 -35 zombies killed throughout this trip and only ONE gave a can of pasta. After Dubrovka, i was left with 350 life, from all the zombies i had to kill and the faintings from lack of food. I finally found ONE cow by the side of the road which gave me 8 raw meat that solved both my health and the food issue. In all the fields, near deer stands, anywhere I looked there was NO animals. Well, I lie, there was ONE CHICKEN in Gorka.... but it was pointless to go kill him in the middle of the road. Maybe I was really unlucky that i got a server that probably didn't restart in a while but still... it was more hard than I'd like to experience every day. Stumbled on this lack of food the previous days as well (not pepsi/coke, if the three are in same group maybe there's some bug where the drinks get lot of priority?)

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Hospitals are full of morphine' date=' you know. [/quote'] Yes, they often have morphine. But you're also often spawned far away from hospitals. And new players who are too dumb to google for a map don't know the locations... they may just wander on a road to go inland and if you're unlucky you won't get a hospital for miles. For example, when you spawn in Kamenka, you're far away from Cherno AND the town is full of eager bandits ready to kill survivors. Often, by the time you reach Cherno the water or food icons are already close to red, so it adds to the new player's frustration. Why would player bother when spawned in such place? There's no penalty, he can just respawn somewhere else. Especially new players who try the game for the first time, don't know how much damage the zeds do so they'll attack them carelessly and there's a high change they'll get broken legs and then just quit frustrated and maybe never try the game again. This is further aggravated by the fact there's no longer any chat, so they could ask questions. edit: and how would a new player learn the morphine fixes legs? How realistic is that? It's just a painkiller in real world, basically. Change painkillers to "First aid kit" or something like that and it will be more intuitive. I've played for about 8 hours in this new alpha and while Cherno and Elektro are barren, as you go inland Coke and Pepsi were easy to find (really had no motivation to get water bottle and refill it, they're so easy to get). BUT the food is much rare, and what I noticed is that the zombies are dropping it more often than I find it on the floors. So get a hatchet and attack lone zeds. My strategy was basically to have the map on the second monitor open (browser map) and make my way straight to cherno or elektro and get about 4 morphines at least, then search for barns where shotguns are easy to find - they're easier to find than regular pistols or revolvers. I'd dare to say the hatchet is too good of a weapon now, as I could easily do headshots and not alarm the zeds around me, as I would with guns. As long as I'm writing a long message... there really should be some more repercussions for bandits - as a survivor there's no benefit for me now to NOT shoot anyone - by the time any side effect of killing survivors takes place, the regular player is already dead from loss of blood or whatever. Maybe zeds should hear the bandits more easily or "smell" them or somehow dynamically increase the difficulty... like add to that "humanity factor" something that changes to worse for them when they snipe a survivor that's handling just a hatchet (he was no danger) It would be nice to also know WHO shot you, particularly on Regular servers where you can see their tags if they're on your sight. Could be a nice game mechanic to track and get your revenge on some bandit (if he doesn't disconnect in the meantime and hops on another server).
  6. The broken legs/limbs are seriously a major pain for me. Got hit by a zombie and got broken legs and had to crawl about 20 minutes to reach the hospital in Elektro No morphine anywhere on the floors, just bandages and painkillers (seriously, is this even used? I never had a need for it). Had to go up the ladders all the way to the top where there were some wood boards... when the character got off the ladder at the top it landed on that wood and got broken hands, 2k life gone and bleeding. Anyway, crawled my way on the roof to a box where I finally found a morphine. When I injected it, the character went up by itself with 5 points at visibility and aggroed about 6 infected around the hospital. Now this is not only unexpected but also wrong - infected 10-20 meters below me on the floor shouldn't see/hear me all the way on top of the building. I just had to disconnect, it was pointless - imho based on the little time i played it's about 20% you get broken legs when an infected hits you which feels way too often. Also, the issue with getting broken limbs when near getting out of houses, or going up stairs when crouched... Maybe it's better to just get rid of the broken legs thing and figure something else out, like Punched in the lungs ... can only run for 5 seconds at a time for a period of time, or kidney issues where you have to drink more often for a while or ... I don't know... some other way to punish player instead of such a frustrating issue.
  7. Tested it for about 3 hours, very nice. Got spawned outside Elektro. Found a hatchet relatively fast, probably the 2nd or 3rd place I entered.... but then I probably searched a third of Elektro and the docks and all I could find was a couple of Pepsi cans, various ammo and flares. So to me at least it seems the bandages are really on the low side now. I was basically shadowing a guy for about 5-6 minutes that was bleeding and felt sorry for him but I used my own bandage a few moments before. Oh... I actually started to bleed foolishly because I forgot to switch to 1st person mode. In 3d view mode, the hits go all over the place... in first person I usually get headshots even without crosshairs. IMHO the reaction/behavior of the zombies is nearly perfect... good job on this! Still a bit of slowly moving through walls when closing the doors on the building I'm hiding but it's manageable. Oh yeah... the flies sound is definitely still present, without any bodies. Between Kamenka and Komarovo for example, there's probably 2 places that almost each time I spawn have that sound. Might be a coincidence but the ground has a darker leaves/grass texture in those areas.

    Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.5

Rocket, please see if you can do something about the zombies losing your sight and then detecting you if you're one floor up. I picked up a few zombies, went in a building with two floors (warehouse style) around a corner then climbed the ladders to the first floor and just sat there crouched because i couldn't move anywhere (that's how one of the ladders are in that building). The zombies started to walk around and approached slowly towards the ladders then one of those zombies that go around crouched all the time simply teleported at the top of the ladders.. i was trapped between him and the walkway bars and died. The zombies don't look up, it doesn't feel realistic for them to suddenly start climbing ladders once they lose you. I was also heard (or seen?) when i was behind a hill from a zombie (but I think you already fixed this) Good job on these fixes.
  9. For admins/rocket : Please post a torrent and leave only that for the first 30 minutes to one hour, it will stop the mirrors from getting so hammered. The 6 updater doesn't work for me personally - the rsync or zsync or whatever it's used freezes (i see about 5-6 of those launched in Task Manager but they don't do anything) ps. I might be able to donate up to 5 TB of bandwidth each month on an 100mbps link, have a dedicated server in Holland. If there's interest pm me. I know you're asking for gigabit links and terabytes of bandwidth but considering they're offered for free maybe you'd reconsider that.

    Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.3

I used to think this as well especially with the 1.7.1 patch (i think) where zombies came to you as if you were a magnet. But with that fixed in 1.7.1.1, it was really not that hard to squeeze myself in a barn or even run after aggro-ing some zombies and lose them after a few corners (which didn't happen before, zombies would never leave you) With melee weapon relatively easy to find, I think it's a good compromise between difficulty and frustrating players.

    Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.3

It would be nice also if you could spawn on piles of dead bodies or near some empty medical tents. The idea is that maybe you were showing signs of getting infected or got into a comma and the medics considered you dead so threw you out in a pile of dead bodies. Your body fought the infection and generated antibodies so now a few days later you wake up with less than 12k life and with nothing but some bandages on you. Or maybe you tried to be evacuated by the army when everything started and went to one of those outposts that has soldiers dropped on the floor but they thought you're too infected and shot you.... only it turns out the shot didn't hit anything critical and you were just out for a while and in the meantime the army retreated or got overrun by zombies. Sort of like how it was with the Jews and death marches during the Holocaust - who couldn't keep walking was shot and left on the side of the road to die.

    Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.3

Didn't acknowledge the issue in the other thread and I don't see it as fixed here, so mentioning it again. Apologies if this is not how it should be done. Inventory has issues. When you pick an item that goes into a specific section, all other sections are dropped to the floor. For example, pick a shotgun and painkillers + flashlight in the gun slot and bandages drop. At one time, a beans can popped up when the stuff I had dropped on the floor.
  13. No, this 1.7.1.2 is unplayable for me. With the latest beta patch for Arma 2, I connected to several servers and got no sound, no debug box, no zombies in towns. When trying to pick stuff, everything else in inventory except the back pack drops to the floor ... pick double shotgun, flashlight and bandages go down... pick hunting knife and shotgun, flashlight and the rest fall down... and when stuff falls down new stuff pops up - had a beans can pop up from nowhere. And then 10 minutes later server crashed and lost everything, didn't save my position. ps. in previous versions as well, there's also a tall rock by the side of the road near kamenka, saw one player half way inside it dead, when i tried to check his inventory got stuck, feet went an inch or so through the rock.
