  1. Agreed. If they don't change it I'll just have to make a mod to the effect. While I really like the tweaks to the infected themselves, the nerf to melee damage and (and melee head trauma on zeds, apparently they have some magic force field around their heads vs melee) was a very bad idea. They've been doing changes to damage and shock damage output from both firearms and melee - but since infected are not affected by shock the damage nerf to melee weapons has a too strong effect on combat with them. It seems to me that there is one group/guy tweaking numbers for pvp "balance" and another group/guy working with infected. And they haven't been speaking to each other... Personally I'd actually love if infected had a shock stat so you could knock them out but they'd wake up later to harass you or somebody else. It would make them more interesting.

    It is. Q or E while having melee weapon raised. Better than block in 1.12 since block is essentially useless.

    Also the spawning is controlled by the trajectory fruit events in events.xml, but these are active by default - you should not need to do anything. For apples for example, in events.xml you should have the below code: <event name="TrajectoryApple"> <nominal>140</nominal> <min>2</min> <max>4</max> <lifetime>180</lifetime> <restock>0</restock> <saferadius>25</saferadius> <distanceradius>100</distanceradius> <cleanupradius>25</cleanupradius> <flags deletable="0" init_random="0" remove_damaged="0"/> <position>player</position> <limit>mixed</limit> <active>1</active> <children> <child lootmax="0" lootmin="0" max="0" min="0" type="Apple"/> </children> </event> Check that it is indeed active and that nominal is at 140 and not less. If so it is as drgullen says - you just need to give them time to spawn. When you are alone on a server there is nobody else moving around triggering fruit to spawn, so best way of testing is to just run around a village, then afk in a safe spot for about 15 minutes and then run around checking all fruit trees. You'll find all you can eat basically.

    The cold won't kill you, unless the constant sniffling drives you nuts so you'd rather F11 and start over than go on... It does increase the rate at which hydration goes down, which is usually not a big factor anyway. Like the above posters said it goes away with time if you stay hydrated, fed and warm. Vitamins and tetra will cure it faster.

    Currently also operating a brutal winter chernarus server. It combines beautiful Winter Chernarus with the survival mechanics from Namalsk Survival - and lets loose the same evil things that roam my Namalsk server. Food is scarce and it is COLD, if you want a brutal survival experience try it out! Server name: "Derleth's Winter Nightmare". Important notice: The Winter Nightmare is not a PvE server, there are no rules there. Kill, raid, cannibalize. Do whatever you need to survive... (players are few however, it might be better to cooperate).

    Derleth's Den is my own dedicated server, PvE-ish survival server set on Deer Isle. You won't find any traders here, and food does not lie around everywhere - here you'll need to hunt or fish to survive, unless you get really lucky. Samina is vanilla, the nights are long and dark - and nightvision extremely rare. 3PP is enabled because I like having the option and PvE is the focus of the server. Base raiding disabled - if you have your stuff locked away properly it is safe. Infected spawns greatly increased, and they aren't the only things that want to kill you...     In addition to the Deer Isle server I also operate a PvE Namalsk server. It was set up for those who would like to explore that awesome map without needing to worry about the marauding death squads shooting at everything that moves. Some very nasty PvE threats roam the island instead, so just because nobody will shoot you doesn't make it easy to survive... Server name is "Derleth's Namalsk Den".

    Also - some of the soaked damage (from a platecarrier etc) should be changed into shock damage. While you'd survive a scorpion mag to the chest you wouldn't stand there laughing in the face of the shooter, at the very least you'd get the air knocked out of your lungs and possibly get knocked of your feet. Definitely so with stronger rounds. I agree that vital organs other than the brain should be reactivated, but iirc there was a patchnote a while back that they "removed code related to unused vitals"* which can't be read any other way than that the vitals are gone for good.. A shame really, but it will still be interesting to see what they come up with regarding the balancing. *) Been going through patchnotes from the last 3-4 updateds and can't find it. Must have dreamed that..

    I have a feeling the upcoming balancing effort intending to increase the occurence of unconsciousness instead of instadeath can bring about this. Even if four or five makarov shots don't kill you outright you should never ever be able to sprint away after that as if nothing happened... One thing I would also like to see is that taking a body shot while wearing body armour will knock you off your feet or at least knock the breath out of your lungs (=depleted temp stamina). Likewise headshots that do not kill due to missing the brain, or helmets soaking some of the damage, should knock the player unconscious. And uncon duration should vary depending on situation. I'm looking forward to whatever comes.

    Well I get that, one is part the game and the other is an arbitrary reset of everything that you cannot avoid no matter what you do. I just doesn't bother me that much personally and even though I can understand where the frustration comes from, I have a hard time understanding why anyone would ragequit over it. One thing strikes me as odd though - there was not a single wipe on the official hive between 1.0 and 1.11 - and now they're going to wipe every 3-4 months. It's a pretty remarkable shift in philosophy, and I very much doubt performance or duping has anything to do with it. They claim "balance", so what balance? Economy? As in high grade gear being buried away and unavailable? That is easy to fix - either don't track it in storage or reduce the efficiency of hoarding. Don't allow crates to be buried, make rifles not fit in drybags, reduce the amount of barrels, make buried stashes last less time etc etc. I can think of many other ways to keep the economy circulating without cleaning the slate every few months.

    I agree. My point is just that gear (and bases) is something that comes and goes. They’re talking about three wipes in a year, I’d wager most players go through ten times that number of lives or more during that time. It’s not that bad, I know of community servers that wipe every other month. I think it is uncalled for personally, on my own servers I don’t wipe unless I absolutely have to because the database has been corrupted. I simply don’t think it is that big of a deal when it happens though.

    That's how the hive should be used - linked maps. One server Chernarus, one Livonia, another a hypothetical second DLC etc. Hopping between different Chernarus servers doesn't make any sense, travelling between different regions does. Could be used to expand the game world beyond the map size restrictions set by current technology. For that reason I hope private hives can be a thing again, there are lots of custom maps available already.

    I took that step long ago since I grew tired of the shooty game prevalent on official servers, paired with the server hopping mechanic which makes them very anonymous by nature. There is no community building, it is mostly a day by day existence looking for trouble. The server hop teleport was a step in the right direction but I truly think official servers should have separate databases, but I doubt they will ever leave the hive concept since it is firmly established. So I'll keep to well crafted survival servers. Wiping on its own is not that bad really, we're always a stray bullet from starting fresh anyways so I don't get the strong reactions about it. Starting over and gearing up is half the fun too..

    Agreed. At the very least acknowledge the problem and say something about the whys and hows about it, I am sure there would be more understanding for the time it takes if they give some detail on the complexity. But publishing a 2021 roadmap without mentioning the core issues with a single word is far from reassuring. I do not doubt they are working on server performance and physics - but the way this roadmap was written worries me anyway. Please don't take us for fools - the elefant IS in the room and we can all see it. Talk about it... As for what is in the roadmap - more guns is nice, and easy to implement, so that a few more will get tossed in was a given, but what about the bow? I hope the modding support will include proper animation tools.

    Should lighting be adjusted?

    I believe the current "bright" night setting on official 3PP servers is closer to the 0.63 lighting than the image below it, but I still can't fathom why they can't build a night lighting that is dynamically dependent on moon phase and cloud cover. Weather/overcast values does have influence, but the mon does not - all it does is paint shadows which you can't even see in the dark settings since NO surfaces will reflect any moonlight whatsoever. Apart from how the ground absorbs moonlight I prefer the dark night settings, but the "dead" moon really annoys me...

    While BuildAnywhere enables stacking towers and all kinds of stupid abuse of base building, the vanilla placement restrictions are so sensitive you are pretty much forced to use it. Devs really should make an effort to create a better logic as to where you can place tents etc. Of course you should not be able to place things inside trees or walls, but when I can't place a tent on a patch of flat ground because there's a twig or something sticking up I get a wee bit annoyed.. In the real world I'd kick it aside. Ideally you'd be able to clear away trees and bushes to set tents or build, and then these wouldn't respawn at server restart if there's a structure or container in that space. It would be a detection at server startup so I doubt it would affect performance.

    Physics are generally unreliable, if someone falls from a ladder he might get stuck mid-air or fall through the ground into another dimension which is probably what happened. You see it often with thrown objects that roll, like roadflares, chemlights or torches. They will come to some point where they poke through the ground texture enough for the collision to be lost and they fall through. In the case of road flares you can sometimes even see how the light is falling for a couple of seconds before it is snuffed out (server deletes out-of bounds objects). I read somewhere that buckshot has a pretty substantial negative modifier to armour penetration, so if you hit a guy in a platecarrier it is not a great surprise that he survived.

    Yeah, for ragdoll to even be considered the physics need to work properly. Remember when they tried adding the heavy item physics (barrel rolling downhill etc)? Servers were crashing left and right... Once that physics framework in Enfusion is stable I think it might come, but it seems very distant right now. And yeah, we're half way through february already, a roadmap for the upcoming year is a wee bit overdue...

    I must admit I have more hope now than after the first year post 1.0 when they just kept adding guns while the survival aspect of the game was still in an abysmal state. Sadly, the way a dominant part of the playerbase approaches the game as a slow-paced pewpew shooter is down to the survival part only getting back on track during 2020. Now they view pesky survival mechanics as stamina, cold, hunger and sickness as annoying distractions from the pewpew.

    They have chosen the in between road, like it or not. The vanilla game is like picture you get with the frame when buying it - basic. Most users are more or less expected to put their own content in the frame - the stock picture works but a personal picture is better. So, it is up to community servers and mods to go more towards a pewpew shoot fest or more survival. As for expected updates, they will keep reintroducing old stuff from alpha, and eventually do something about the physics. That it takes so much time is likely because the issue is firmly embedded in the engine, Adam hinted that the DayZ team is basically forced to wait for the Enfusion crew to work these issues out in the engine. Once that is done it can be applied to DayZ, so when a fix is pushed it will likely be a major overhaul. That experimental patch is going to be interesting...

    Lost interest

    I can't answer that, although I am sure there are others on this forum who can. I know that DayZ runs in 4K and looks great, although my old rig can't really handle it. It is playable and I get 30 fps, but I prefer to go down a notch with extreme detail and 60 fps...
