    Status Report - 25 September 2018

Probably a misunderstanding then. What they have said is that cars and base building would be implemented during or at the beginning of beta. Post 1.0 is the plan for additional vehicles such as more types (specifically such as were never in 0.62 either) of cars and two-wheeled vehicles. Last week they said in the status report that vehicles would be added shortly after the next content patch, now it seems they're content to push it all out at once. Still no ETA though, so we'll see how long we'll have to wait. I want to see that list of beta features first and foremost, I can wait some more if it means we get a smooth release this time.

    Reanimation?

Yeah, would be cool, but lorewise the "zombies" in DayZ are living people infected with a rage virus. Players are part of the small group of humans who were naturally immune to the virus and have to survive in the ruins. So, think more 28 Days/Weeks Later for inspiration rather than flicks with actual undead shuffling about. Since we're immune the turning/reanimation question is moot. That said it would be awesome if the infected would actually proceed to eat players and animals they kill. They have to eat something, right? Or they'd have starved to death long ago. So it would only make sense if they would rip into any corpse they come across, be that player or animal. Could be a legit way to escape a horde that has aggroed you, pop your buddy in the kneecap and leave him to the zeds while you run for the hills... Also, I wouldn't be very surprised if one or two mods pop up with more of the Walking Dead variant of zeds. If it could be possible for modders to script reanimation I haven't an idea, but it would be fun.

Fair enough. I still think it's an okay tradeoff to really make things uncomfortable for the ones who do combat log. Real life stuff that trash your online life happens now and then anyway, power failures, raging wives, kids dropping ice cream on your keyboard... All stuff that has happened to me causing all kinds of in-game mayhem. It's just shit that happens. If I end up needing to leave my character to the wolves once in a while, but combat logging practically ceases to exist, that is fine with me.

How constructive, care to elaborate? You love gearing up by server hopping too much? Chickening out of combat* is your way to survive? No? Then why NO? The compromise posted by Pilgrim above was good, would not be disruptive yet make ghosting and loothopping impractical or just very slow. *) In my opinion fleeing from combat is perfectly valid, but one should do it in-game. Logging out to server hop and regroup is pure cowardice with cheating on top...
  5. Oh yes, the arrows do come up above the germey symbol when you drink. Still not sure how to read that, maybe they're thought to show that you are drinking unsafe water? I think it happens when you eat with bloody hands too, but I'm not sure. It doesn't happen when drinking out of a bottle you looted, only once you've filled it somewhere, regardless of if you used water purification tablets or not.

Oh yes. I've thought about this myself and come to the conclusion that I will probably never bother to build a base at all, depending a bit on how they are implemented. The fact most players behave as if the point of the game is to kill all other players makes it a really bad idea to stay long in any particular location. When I set up tents or barrels in 0.62 and returned later I'd stake it out from afar, rush in and get/drop whatever I needed and then eff off quick as lightning. Preferably in cover of darkness. Speaking of my camp here! Camping near the tent with a cosy fire, cooking some wolf steaks? Unthinkable, any light source in the open will attract psychos like moths.
  7. Just gorge yourself seriously (water is the easiest way, just fill a cooking pot and drink) and the stuffed stomach symbol will appear left of the health cross. Then it will also be obvious that the germy thing is a germ since the stomach symbol looks more stomachey.... And yeah, I experimented a bit with the bleeding yesterday - shot myself in the foot to get bleeding - and when you get low on blood the symbol turns yellow. Presumably red too, but I managed to fall to my death before I lost enough blood. Health symbol also changes colour into yellow and then red when it's critical. I hope the food and water icons will be improved to turn green as the 0.62 indicators used to, that would help keep better control of hydration and energy.

Sounds good to me, although I believe you should also be random spawned if you logged out indoors and logged in on another server, regardless of time. Too easy otherwise to ghost into a locked house or, in the future worst case scenario, somebody's base. I like the thought of a proximity blocker to stop cowardly combat logging too. Nothing to stop players from quitting if they really have to, you'll just have to leave your character vulnerable or at the mercy of your "friends" if in a group...
  9. Actually when you're stuffed a new symbol appears to the left of the health cross, this one actually looking like a stomach and not a germ. If you keep drinking/eating once the stomach comes up you'll puke. At the same place water drops appear to illustrate when you've somehow become wet. If you're both stuffed and wet they overlap so they're unreadable. I've also noticed that drinking supposedly "safe" water often makes arrows appear above the germ symbol, if I keep drinking then I'll puke. Makes it impossible to drink an entire bottle of water (filled from a well) without pausing at least four times to let the arrows fade. Dunno how to read that actually, but the few times I actually became sick the arrows by the germ symbol pointed down and I started losing water faster.

Yeah, it seems combat logging is rampant now on xbox, or it's just that the players aren't used to it there. Impulz mentioned the "Character Locked in Database" thing is meant as a deterrent for server hopping and combat logging, but it seems to me it's not working that way at all. The only time it has been triggered for me is when I've been BE kicked or the server crashed/restarted. Whenever I have logged out and in again, on a new server or another, there's just been the timers. The server hop timer has been halved in 0.63 too, from 180 to 90 seconds. Imho it should have been doubled instead... To me the most sensible thing would be to have one character per server, so no hopping period. Either that or spawn the character in a random location (never indoors) when hopping. As for combat logging, just implement a proximity stopper that won't allow the character to despawn as long as there are other players in the vicinity. You could quit anyway of course, but the character would remain until killed or there's nobody nearby.

I posted this in the suggestions forum a little while ago, should apply to all platforms: As long as there are shared hives these things will happen, but I believe a few steps should be taken to make it less attractive: When logging into a new server within a certain time (at least an hour) after logging out of another, the character should spawn in a random location in the general area (1km2) of where he/she logged out. The login delay when server hopping should be longer, 90 seconds is nowhere near enough. Around 5 minutes or more should do. When logging into a new server, regardless of the time that has passed after logging out of the previous server, the character should never spawn inside a building or base. Trying to do that will lead to random spawn as above. As for combat logging, there should be a proximity delay pausing the logout timer when there are other players in the vicinity (+/- 100m or so). Player should always be able to quit the game (if you gotta go you gotta go...) leaving the character exposed until the others move off or find and kill him. Edit: I don't believe the database lock works at all if the purpose is to prevent server hopping and combat logging. The only times it seems to happen is with BE kicks and server crashes/restarts...

Exit during firefights and server hopping needs fixing.

The answer is no, devs have no plans for cross-platform play with consoles.

Your shadow always points North West

This is due to the frequent server restarts which reset server time, so the sun never moves and you never get night. This should change as soon as they have stabilised the Xbox game enough to allow longer intervals between server restarts.

Some Suggestions ( After SCUM )

I say: Maybe, in some cases. I get annoyed when I can't open fridges, cupboards, dumpsters and stuff like that, and those large rubbage piles lying around everywhere look like there should be stuff to find in them. In general I very much prefer where, as in DayZ, you can see the loot before you. I am not at all a fan of search timers, but e.g. the new mechanic to find small stones (to make the improvised stone knife) does not work very well. For an item that is essential to early survival those stones are way to hard to find. On the other hand having enough stones spawning all over the map to make them useful would probably do terrible things with server performance, so it would be best to make it possible to search for them again. Heeeeeell no. There's pears too in the stresser I believe, and soon enough we'll be able to grow stuff again. There's not that many edible things growing in the open in the climate zone Chernarus is set anyway. It's too cold for olives, oranges and whatnot so apples, pears, berries and mushrooms is just about all you can expect to find, although I think the garden plots found next to some buildings should have a chance to spawn random vegetables. Logically people were growing stuff there when the apocalypse struck so you should be able to find the odd potato or pumpkin growing on its own...

    Zombies

In the stress test build infected aggro range and behavior has been weird recently, and their movement even weirder. I suppose it has to do with the performance issues, maybe it is even part of the cause. They walk and move/attack jittery and occasionally rubberband back and forth like ghosts in crappy horror films. When killed they fall in slow motion, they keep screaming a couple of seconds after dying and they won't react to rifle fire, so you can calmly walk around a town and pick them off one at a time without aggroing. Fire a Makarov and they all come for you though... I believe the current sound effects are only place holders though so I wouldn't worry too much about them, but I really hope aggro range and behavior is improved. Also we need more infected. Lots more!
  18. Now they're talking weeks on twitter. Might be a case of bad writing, but meh. I'm going to keep myself busy with No Man's Sky. Will be back once the patch goes to stress testing, whenever that may be.

    Training required

At the very least I expect simple hand-powered train cars (a.k.a. "handcar", "velocipede" or "pump-trolley" etc to make it into the game at some point. Maybe as craftable items with some auto parts and scrap metal?

    Avoiding boredom in DayZ 0.63

I went back to 0.62. I'm keeping the stress test build in a separate folder so I can quickly get the update and jump into stress testing the content patch when it is time. But for actual playing 0.62 is, in all it's clunky glory, far more engaging than experimental. For me the turning point was when I realised they have disabled wolves. Wolves (along with cows and deer) were in the earlier stress test builds so I don't understand why they were taken out in experimental. Strange decision, especially since they haven't said anything. The animals must have been causing stability issues or something else that needs fixing, or devs just forgot to reactivate the spawns after a pvp stress test...
  21. Derleth

    Where is the DayZ population?

Well I did play experimental a lot, explored map changes and tested this and that. Once it dawned on me that they even took out the wolves and cows, who spawned in the earlier stress test builds, I went back to 0.62. There's so much more depth to it, clunky or not. I'd forgotten all about the bad module crashes though. Hate them.

    Stamina and energy levels?

This is EXACTLY how I want stamina and soft skills to work. I really hope what they are planning is something like this.
  23. You're right, so I'll try to clarify. If people say "We can't find loot anywhere!" or "We keep starving/thirsting to death, we think there should be more food/water around!" we can give tips on how they can deal with their problems and have a healthy discussion. For example, I too think the rates at which energy/hydration drops are exaggerated in 0.63, and the amounts you need to eat and drink to max them are inhuman, just plain silly to be honest. However, I am sick and tired of the people who dive in screaming "THERE IS NO LOOT!!!" or "YOU STARVE TO DEATH IN FIVE MINUTES DAYZ SO BROKEN FFS!!!" etc etc, along with a grand selection of bad words. They are not interested in listening to advice or having a discussion, they just want to scream and rant and get patted on the back by likeminded. I'm sorry, but I have a hard time respecting the opinion of someone who just won't listen to reason and would rather ignore facts and keep screaming than admit he might be exaggerating the problem. That is what I mean with "waa waa" threads, nothing more. It's a question of how they voice their concerns, no matter how valid they might be at the core. And back to topic, I want 3rd person to stay because I like it! ;-)
  24. I'm new around here so the discussion is all fresh to me, and soooo much more interesting than the "waa waa there's no lewt/food/water" threads that were going on. They've quieted down a bit recently though, haven't they? Or have I just developed an internal filter to ignore them?
