  1. Having invisible base plots around the map locking you from building - even though nothing can be seen there - would be an awful, awful mechanic. The only way to feasibly enable offline "protection" from raids would be make to bases invulnerable when the owners are offline. That would also require strict limitations to base building, to avoid absurdly large hoarder bases. You'd have to make a system where you first build a flagpole to which the builder and any number of other players are connected. To that flagpole you'd be able to assign a certain number of base elements. Say, for example's sake, 2 watch towers, ten fences, two tents and four barrels. Or whatever. More than that would not even be possible to build. Nor would it be be possible to build anything anywhere without a flag pole. Then, with all connected "owners" of the base offline, the flag pole would somehow indicate "out of office" and the base elements would be indestructible and locked. Something like the above is certainly technically possible to do in the game - variants have been made in mods - but is this something we want? No, it is not - because it goes directly against the "authentic" nature of DayZ. No limitations, no arbitrary rules for gameplay reasons. There is no ownership in DayZ. This includes the possibility that someone breaks in to take your shit when you're away. It happens in real life, it happens in-game - and it sucks - but that's just the way it is. Also, an offline protection and ownership system would further strain server performance with a bunch of authentication checks going back and forth for every single base and player. Simply put, it would add a layer of complexity to the game that is really not needed. What is needed is a way for base builders to make their bases more durable and a general rebalance of time to build vs time to tear down. Until then, I simply don't build bases on regular servers. I carry what I need. Freedom!
  2. Happens occasionally when you open/close a door and get caught "inside" it due to desync. Often means you can't move or toggle the door again - but the zeds will get to you. Probably can't ever be entirely fixed in an online environment. Variants of the same glitch happens in nearly all other online games that have doors...

    Arma reforger

I'd rather see the import is complete and functional before testing starts, if it ends up getting worse it's not really worth it, is it? I did think the vehicle thing would come with 1.17 but obviously it wasn't ready then. Not surprising, but I would appreciate some more transparency from the devs when they need to change plans. People will complain no matter what, so offering some information about what they're planning and what happens with it couldn't really do any damage. Mar

    porting Mechanics

There is a push to talk mod I think, although that really should be a default thing.

Why don’t Christmas light actually give off light?

They do, but they need power. Connect to a power source and you get some decorative lights around your base. What I want is that they make it possible to hang the xmas lights on fences and watch towers too, as in the concept art for base building shown some years ago.

    Zombie Loot (Need advice)

Could be something else, I often kill zeds who have some cargo in their backpack so the logic normally works. Could be that it just doesn't like 1.0 values, I dunno...

    Zombie Loot (Need advice)

Doesn't work like that, you can't add a second layer of attachments. There is another bit of code controlling what potentially spawns in that type of backpack, lines 147-150: <type name="TaloonBag_Violet"> <cargo preset="foodVillage" /> <cargo preset="mixVillage" /> </type> The foodVillage and mixVillage presets in turn are defined in cfgrandompresets.xml. So if you want that priest to have a special batch of loot it has to be in his pockets, or you can make sure that backpack only spawns on the priest and then use the backpack's config to define its contents.

    Vehicle's disappear after a restart

The use of the word "buy" here is key. Means it is a modded server, so the server has traders but the server admin has forgotten to set up vehicle persistence. In the vanilla game vehicles are handled by events and do not need persistence - so their default lifetime is set to three seconds. If you use a trader (or spawn vehicles in with admin tools) there is no event to control the vehicle and the lifetime is counted. So basically it will disappear as soon as you turn your back. I recommend you play vanilla servers until you have learned the game, then explore modded servers.

DayZ needs the old skybox/clouds come back

Indeed, the volumetric clouds were still in the game through 0.63 experimental and 1.0 release. It was not until the 1.02 patch that they were removed. The reason was apparently client side performance issues leading to extensive weather desync issues. In a group of five players everyone could be seeing different weather - while the actual weather on the server was something else still... At that time (1.02) DayZ had way more serious issues than weather sync, so the decision was a sensible one. Now that the game is in a much better place, it is about time to look into a way to return volumetric clouds. It makes an enormous difference to the atmosphere and lighting. All of the below screenshots are from 0.63 exp or 1.0-1.01. So there is nothing in the engine stopping this from happening, it's just the will to overcome the performance and desync issues. My tinfoil hat says the old gen consoles are to blame...
  10. Yeah, the fact you must empty a bag to put it in a container is really stupid. I simply cannot believe there is no better way to prevent infinite container stacking. Logically an empty backpack should take up X space in the inventory, but once it is carrying some items it would take exactly as much space as it can contain (like e.g. protector case or cooking pot). That's not rocket science in my eyes, I wonder why they just won't do it like that.
  11. Oooh wait, that sounds like it might be a console specific issue then. I'd say it is not intended in that case.
  12. It's a game balance thing. You simply should not be able to insta draw a Mosin out of a backpack and shoot in a second. That's what we're talking about. Needing to take your backpack in hands just to do the regular inventory tetris is just annoying without really adding anything of value to the gameplay - but blocking players from hotbarring items carried in a backpack would make gameplay sense. Anyway - I think this whole topic comes from someone playing on modded servers - from some quick testing just now I can say there is nothing wrong with buttpacks or platecarrier pouches, items in them are as accessible as ever. I suspect a mod like "HardcoreBackpack" or similar might have broken with 1.17 and is causing various inventory issues with attached containers.
  13. Your perspective comes from the PvE side of the game being neglected for too long. When 0.63 hit experimental there were barely any survival elements present in the game and zombies were trivial at best. The only threat was other players - and thus people have played the game as a pure shooter since then. I'm with Riddick on this one. The game should be mainly a struggle for survival against the world - with occasional clashes with other equally desperate survivors. I can't find any fun in playing the game only to get some gunz and then look for someone to shoot at until you die, then rince repeat. I'm in it for the slower game, actively looking for trouble goes against that.. Anyway Riddick I do run some PvE servers - but I must admit there's one or two mutants running around. That and about 3 times the vanilla number of zeds. Can't have PvE without some PvE threats - without danger it does get boring.

    Groza?

Now that bullpup animations are in (after Famas and Aug implementations) the Groza is very likely to be the next military firearm they add, if any.

    DayZ Vehicle spawn for events

In types.xml - change the lifetime value of the base car (not the various parts such as doors and wheels) to 3888000. Default is 3 seconds, since vehicles are handled by events and don't need a lifetime. But if you spawn it with admin tools the server uses the lifetime in types.xml, so the car will despawn as soon as no player is within sight of the car...
  16. Lead dev admitted in an interview a couple of years ago that all plans for flying vehicles had been permanently scrapped due to lack of resources. They simply didn't have the manpower to implement the necessary physics. Now they are currently working on moving over a newer version of vehicle physics from the current version of Enfusion, whether this will include support for other vehicle types than regular cars is another question. Personally I think the maps in DayZ are simply too small for flying vehicles, but I would very much like to see boats and bikes implemented at some point.

    DayZ Stutters / Please FIX

Bugger, that's the one that helped for me. Hope you get it sorted.

    DayZ Stutters / Please FIX

If I remember right this issue was related to Full Screen optimisation in Windows 10. Try disabling that and see if it helps.

Any community vanilla 1PP servers? (PC)

Indeed there are tons of monetised servers out there and for some unfathomable reason they attract a large number of players, who pay for priority queues and god knows what. I'd never ever set foot on a server like that even if they paid ME for it... As for performace - I never said I only play Spaggies. I hop on Spaggie servers whenever I feel like playing vanilla, since official are unplayable. I have occasionally noted a bit of door lag on full servers, but never rubber banding. Rubber banding is a high ping symptom, whenever you see another player rubber banding you know they have a crap connection to the server. Doesn't even have to mean their own connection is crap - but for some reason their connection with the server results in high ping and packet loss. When that happens stay clear of vehicles...

Any community vanilla 1PP servers? (PC)

Yeah. My experience is that the only ones who get into trouble with the "law" on Spaggie servers are the ones who are unable to understand or accept how they operate. They provide free servers for fun, they do not offer any kind of assistance - "There Is No God". They do catch and ban cheaters and the few who just can't abide by the simple rules - and they won't tolerate footstomping behaviour either on the servers or on the discord. They do not charge a penny for their services, they are not obliged to treat ppl on their discord with silk gloves just because. Some people have a hard time understanding that, but that's just how it is. If someone doesn't like it there are many other servers after all. I've played on Spaggie servers since 0.62 and never had any kind of problems. Nor have I ever run into a cheater. They can be a nightmarishly shooty KOS-fest, but that is vanilla DayZ for you... Performance is generally no better or worse than any other high pop servers.

Any community vanilla 1PP servers? (PC)

Yeah I can vouch for the Spaggie servers. On top of the vanilla servers they run a few on modded maps (Deer Isle, Namalsk and Melkart last time I looked) but then it's literally just the map, no changes to mechanics. They also have a modded server "Russia 11" which is currently more of a hardcore winter setting.

    Connecting failed (0x0001001)

Was this on official, so you can join other servers on the public hive with the same character? If not, it sounds like your character was corrupted on that server. It happens rarely, and I've only ever heard about it happening on modded servers due to a modded item causing something weird. The only thing to do in that case is to ask the server admin to delete your character so you can respawn with a new one. If it was on official I don't have a clue what it could be...

    Let’s talk about the M4

Was it you or somebody else who explained the whys and hows of the correlation between the server/client net communication and rate of fire? I know I've seen it here on the forum a while back last time this was being discussed.
  24. Derleth

    Let’s talk about the M4

The M4 rate of fire was not higher before because of a quirk (or bug if you will) with how the DayZ engine handles networking and the rate of fire with weapons. Now that that issue was fixed the M4 could finally receive its proper rate of fire. Because yes, the in-game rof now matches that it has in real life. The famas is also reknowned for its high rate of fire, so that it came about at the same time a high rate of fire was finally possible is no surprise. The MP5 and Scorpion also received significant buffs to their rate of fire in the same patch.
  25. Derleth

    Let’s talk about the M4

DayZ isn't CoD, Apex, BF or any other pew pew shooter with a scoreboard and actual objective to kill as many players as you can. That a huge part of the community play it like that doesn't make it so. It doesn't need to be balanced like a competitive shooter. The M4 has that rate of fire because it has that rate of fire. Does that make it beastly in combat? Yes. Is that actually accurate? Yes. Does it need to change? No. Some guns are better than others, that's just how it is, DayZ has already gone too much down the road of gamey balancification of some weapon stats, such as muzzle velocity and totally arbitrary damage values, audible ranges of gunfire and some other things, they sure as heck don't need to make it even worse by nerfing M4 rate of fire because "then nobody wants an AK". In the vanilla game getting your hands on an M4 is hard. They only drop in chem zones, so you need to find full NBC and gear yourself to deal with all others who are headed in there with the same idea. It's a risk vs reward thing, if you get your hands on the M4 you have either done it the hard way or killed someone who did it the hard way and taken their prize. Servers providing anyone and his mother with M4:s due to bloated loot economies and/or traders have no bearing on this. The devs cannot and should not take that into consideration when they make design and balance decisions. If M4 is OP on Roger Rabbit's Pew Pew server then it is Roger Rabbit's own responsibility to take measures to change that, not the game devs.
