@Greensek I just tested and confirmed - the hard way - that tents still give no shelter from rain. When the onset of hypothermia from getting wet is so quick and shelter hard to find in parts of the map, you really need to fix this bug, if the weather is going to be this harsh in Livonia... Ugh, I died when tabbed out to write this. Don't even know if it was by zombie, player, wolf or bear. Noob mistake to tab out instead of logging, but it was only 30 seconds ffs 😛

Instead of ragequitting do a forum search here, on the steam forums, reddit or even google. There are tons of newb tips out there to help the struggling freshie. Here's some basic info: First of all DayZ is not a loot n' shoot pewpew shooter like pubg. Gearing up is supposed to take you hours and require you to move around a lot. Don't expect to find everything you need by looting a few buildings in one town. You can drink lake water, no problem. Just kneel down and look down at the water, you'll get an option to hold "F" to drink. Mind you, you'll probably get cholera and die... Most towns have a well, you can drink directly from the well or use it to fill containers with clean water. You can find bottles and canteens with water but there is a risk they are contaminated, if possible use chlorine tablets to sterilise the water before you drink it or empty the bottle (look straight down on the ground with the bottle in hand) and refill at a well. Food cans can be opened with any sharp tool - axes, knives, screw driver, machete... If you don't find anything sharp you can make an improvised knife with two small stones (found on the ground on train tracks, hiking trails and some beaches). Canned food is not everything edible though - you can hunt chickens and other animals and, god forbid, you can eat other players if you are really desperate. Just remember to clean your hands after gutting an animal or you'll get sick. Look for fruit below trees and mushrooms in the woods or by hay bales. Don't eat raw meat or rotten fruit though, you'll get sick. Remember to loot zombies you kill, they often have food or useful items in their pockets. Some of them even have a backpack for you... When it gets dark use the default flare you get to light your way. You can find chemlights that last a long time and you can make torches by cutting down a bush and combining a stick with rags. Stay patient, and keep in mind that DayZ is intended to be a struggle for survival, not quick pvp. There are modded servers that provide that though, but I recommend you learn the game on vanilla before trying modded servers.

Attempted fixes for the blue screen crashes some have been having on PS4.

The VSS and Amphibia are bugged so their sound can sometimes carry unnaturally far. Someone was shooting suppressed pistol somewhere, and the server decided to play the sound for you...

Very good list Asmondian! I agree 100% with nearly everything. A few comments: 4) I think the proportions of the bigger backpacks should also be changed, for example there is just no way you would ever be able to get a Mosin into a backpack. 11) Instead of going from OP to practically useless, It would be a better option to drastically increase the amount consumed from duct tape when patching things it is not ideal for. That way you'd prefer the leather kit for shoes or weapon cleaning kit for guns since using duct tape would consume half the roll or more. 17/18 In addition to this I'd like some visual and/or audio cues to different ailments. E.g. character scratching infected wounds, squatting or holding hands over stomach, mumbling "I'm bleeding" and so on. If all else fails, the old text-based symptom descriptions actually worked well. 21) The placement collisions need to be looked at too, they are way too restrictive right now. 33) Also - please look up the old animations recorded when Dean did mo-cap as an infected eating a corpse, and make infected stop to consume corpses of players and animals if they have no live target on their aggro list. Other than this, I could think of a few more minor changes that could fit the list: Make the upgraded fireplace (stone oven) persistent as a base building item. Since they're gone in a few hours nobody will ever bother with them, which is a shame. Restrict hotbar slots gained from a piece of clothing or gear to items actually placed inside that piece of clothing. Block items placed in backpacks from being put on hotbar or accessed with the "Hold R" mechanic! Being able to have a shotgun in your backpack and whip it out in the fraction of a second is utterly unrealistic and not worthy of DayZ.

There was an update yesterday, so it seems something was corrupted in your installation. I suggest you verify the game files on Steam (tick all the boxes) and delete the DayZ folder in Windows My Documents.

It is probably enough, I've just been paranoid since diseases became a factor to consider!

Whatever works for you is best for you friend! As long as you find enough canned food to survive it is certainly easier, especially on servers with a lot of banditry and kos going on. However, cooked meat and vegetables give far more energy than canned food, so eating yourself full on baked wolf will last you longer than filling your stomach with soggy canned spaghetti, which makes sense. There's a bit of hassle to cook food - make a fire and bake it takes some time - but I kind of like messing with it and the quality of the food makes it worth it (unless the cooking fire attracts some psycho who blows your brains out over a slab of wolf meat).

1) No. Them nasty germs are invisible. If you don't have chlorine tablets best bet is to empty and disinfect the bottle and refill it at a well. Wells are always clean while all other water sources (ponds, streams, lakes, swamps) contain cholera to some extent. Some are worse than others, if you are in top health you can drink stream water without getting sick. 2) Yes. If you keep drinking and eating small amounts so you do not provoke vomiting - you will need to learn the limit by trial and error - and avoid drinking more dirty water, eventually your body will fight off the sickness. It can take a lot of time though, especially if you are fighting zombies or getting cold in the rain and so on. It is basically a fight between the characters immune system and the germs, and the immune system is lowered by several factors such as thirst, hunger, cold and injuries. 3) Yes, that bottle should now be safe!

Some advice: Do not stop drinking when the water symbol goes white. All that means is you are only just out of danger - keep drinking until your stomach is full (you'll see a weird stomach symbol). Be careful so you don't drink too much and puke everything up though. Then wait a few minutes and drink your stomach full again. Repeat this a few times and your character will be fully hydrated, meaning you can run for an hour before needing to drink again. Same goes for food. The best container for food is your stomach. Eat everything you find when you find it and you'll build up an energy reservoir that will last for hours without refilling. Canned food is emergency food, the most reliable food sources walk on four legs. Hunt and thrive - but don't forget to cook the meat or you'll get sick. Codeine pills do nothing against cholera (the disease you get from contaminated water). They are pain killers and will temporarily remove limping if you are injured, as well as helping against cold/flu. Chlorine tablets will cleanse a water bottle or canteen, one for plastic bottles, two for canteens. If you have become sick you need to stay hydrated, fed, warm and uninjured for your body to fight off the infection. When you have cholera your stomach will be sensitive, you can only eat or drink very small amounts before vomiting - so do that but do it often so you keep yourself hydrated. Tetracycline antibiotics will help overcome cholera and food poisoning quicker, eat one pill and take another one when the pill symbol disappears until the sickness is gone (or you're out of pills). Don't take more than one at a time, that has no effect other than wasting pills. Multivitamins strengthen your immune system so any disease you have does not get worse as long as you are eating them (again, one at a time, take a new one when the pill symbol disappears). If you are otherwise fed and hydrated they will help you fight the disease and - most importantly - stop you from getting sick again. You can stack vitamins, antibiotics and other pills. Only one symbol shows though. Water bottles and canteens can have contaminated water in them. If you don't have chlorine tablets empty the water (look straight down at the ground to get the option), decontaminate them with alcohol and refill at a well. If you have gutted an animal, clean your hands before eating or drinking anything!

Yeah if this persists I guess I'll do that. It is not a game breaking issue, it is kinda amusing to be chased by a score of screaming women... I'm just curious if this happens on other servers, and if it does not - what do I do fix it. Cherno, Elektro and Berezino were all still overrun by very angry ladies this morning.
-
Yeah in 0.62 containers only lasted seven days if I remember correctly. So unless you tickled your tent/barrel once every 5-6 days it would be gone. It sometimes felt too restrictive - go on a one week vacation and your crap is gone - but it would save the economy from month-long draughts due to half-forgotten stashes.

I won't be able to help much, since I barely touched the wolf_territories.xml myself, but I'll do some wild guessing: As far as I understand the coordinates define areas around which they will roam, and the Water/Rest/HuntingGround defines what they do in each zone. Herbivores will wander between drinking at water sources, resting in fields or walking around grazing (and making noise) depending on the type. As for wolves I believe they will instantly aggro on any player, zombie or animal coming in range, hence we never see them drinking or resting since they're coming for our throats long before we see them... The spawn event is controlled from events.xml ("AnimalWolf") so here you can increase the amount of flocks spawned at any time (<nominal>) and/or the amount of wolves in a flock (min/max). As for where they spawn I suppose it is randomised for each defined territory, picking either of the coordinates listed for the territory. Hopefully someone else here knows better!

Either use chlorine tablets to disinfect the bottle or empty it (look straight down at your feet to get the option) and refill with clean water, or drink directly from a well (remember to clean your hands!) to avoid getting infected. IF already sick, take small sips of water and small pieces of food - but often - to avoid triggering vomiting. Make sure you are otherwise in good health, meaning dry, warm and not shot up/clawed to fudge by other players or infected. That way your immune system will slowly but surely fight the sickness until it is cured and the germy symbol disappears. Antibiotics help you get rid of it faster, not instantly, while vitamins boost your immune system temporarily so you'll recover even if low on health or other stats as long as you have vitamins active (pill symbol is showing). Proper MOONLIGHT is POSSIBLE! [VIDEO]

Not sure if you can disable so they cannot be crafted, but you can control their persistence so they despawn as soon as they are built. Cruel perhaps, but it would get the message across! -
Proper MOONLIGHT is POSSIBLE! [VIDEO]
Derleth replied to 0.64 Freerider's topic in General Discussion
Exactly. The unnaturally dark nights since 1.0 were a consequence of the anti-gamma system, and although the recent changes to lighting was an improvement, nights still look nowhere near as good as they did in Alpha. Which is a depressing irony... Hence my question to @ImpulZ in my previous post. I would like to shut the anti-gamma system off and have proper nights on my server. To hell with gamma cheaters, I'll smash them with my ban hammer if need be. -
Proper MOONLIGHT is POSSIBLE! [VIDEO]
Derleth replied to 0.64 Freerider's topic in General Discussion
That video is from pre-beta 0.63, nights looked like that before the anti-gamma system was implemented along with beta. It interacted nicely with phases and cloud cover too. With 1.05 they recently tweaked night lighting so the moonlight is a little bit stronger (it casts visible shadows again!) than in previous 1.X builds, unfortunately the current cloud system does not work well with the lighting. The sky looks very unnatural at night (see screenshots below) and has done so ever since around the time personal night light was implemented. The anti-gamma thing was and is a great idea, I just wish they could come up with a way to make it work without making nights look worse. They looked so much better in 0.63... Unnatural looking clouds: The moon is back! @ImpulZ : Would it be possible to add a server-side toggle (such as for the personal night light) for server owners to switch the anti-gamma system off and/or possibly customise the ambient brightness at night? I would very much prefer to get rid of anti-gamma and have the pre-beta nights on my server. -
Tsssk tssssk, you should have known better than getting your bicycle wet, everybody knows they are made of alkali metals! On topic - I like the idea. The chance could apply or be bigger when mistiming the jump over a fence, there is an animation now on 1.05 where you touch the fence with a foot as you're jumpvaulting over, that could easily be built upon for this thing.

Allright, thanks for the answer. Yeah I'm staying clear of events.xml for now. I changed to your config but bro's Gunter started bouncing anyway, and he didn't even have any aggroed zeds near him. He's on a mobile broadband connection with so-so reception, it seems my server is extremely sensitive to when his connection is unstable. Nobody else playing on the server causes this, when bro is not on cars work without problem, even when driving around aggroing that horde on the field above. Funny thing is bro is not having that much lag problems when playing on other servers, so I'm getting a bit confused. Hopefully devs will soon get rid of whatever gremlins in the netcode and/or car simulation cause this to happen. The config itself is a good base spawn pattern to expand upon, good work!
-
That sucks. Hopefully they will relax that soon. It might be that it is not so much BI as Sony/Xbox being restrictive on what private server owners are allowed to do and not to do. Simple configuring of the basic xml-files shouldn't be off the table though, it's not like actual modding since it does not require alteration of the clients of connecting players.
-
Are you able to turn persistence off on console servers? That would be an idea, every restart starting the server on a clean slate except for what online players are actually carrying. The other option is to beg BI for more access to server configuration files.
-
Hey @repzaj1234 after you did the quoted change, is the tweak to distanceradius still necessary? I've been using a tweaked version of the config in "Zombies Everywhere plus" mod - which is fun as heck - but the absurd amounts of infected do seem to trigger harry potter moments for cars a bit too frequently. So time has come to try your config and slowly up the numbers until I find the sweet spot for my machine. If it helps all is gold, if not I can rule out zombies as the cause of flying cars. (Oddly enough the flying car events only happen when my brother is online and aggravating the infected population. When I'm on my own or with other players I can drive around with up to 20-30 infected chasing the car without problems, but when bro's connection goes haywire the car takes off.) Going to miss these:
-
Most important question is - will the moved servers share a hive under the community tab or will they have separate hives like "real" community servers?

Moving this over from the suggestions subforum, in the hope of anyone familiar with modding taking the time to say if it is possible or not. It seems the devs are intent on making broken bones overly complicated (simulated skeleton with actual fractures etc), at least that's the only reason I can fathom that they're now saying they can't promise it will ever be back. So: FAKE IT! Basically, broken bones could be faked to a certain extent using existing systems in the live game: X amount of damage (in a single hit) to an arm - 50% increased time to do 2-handed actions and increased weapon sway. Effect can be cancelled temporarily with painkiller pills and heals with splint, morphine or over time, e.g. 10-15 minutes. Y amount of damage (in a single hit) to an arm - 100% increased time to do 2-handed actions and heavily increased weapon sway. Effect can be reduced temporarily (to the above effects) with painkiller pills, and only heals with splint or morphine. X amount of damage (in a single hit) to a leg - induces yellow health limping effect. Effect can be cancelled temporarily with painkiller pills and heals with splint, morphine or over time, e.g. 10-15 minutes. Y amount of damage (in a single hit) to a leg - induces red health limping effect. Effect can be reduced temporarily to (the above effects) with painkiller pills, and only heals with splint or morphine. Both arms broken - unable to raise hands/weapon until at least one arm is splinted or healed. Both legs broken - pass out and thereafter cannot leave prone position until at least one leg is splinted/healed. Now, is the above (or something like it, these are just my ideas on how to do it) system something that is possible to do as a mod? I believe it would be a good placeholder until a more sophisticated system is developed (if ever).

Don't know if it's possible to alter with mods, but from Sumrak's status reports on Namalsk I've figured out that this is on the devs radar, and will likely be fixed fairly soon. Since ambient food can now be rotten on 1.05 expy - i got sick after eating rotten plums yesterday - I'd say food getting ruined with time and losing heat will be coming soon(ish...)
