Yeah, same principle basically for everything. Though after ~550hours in DayZ I still don't know many places, especially as map got updated a lot, though I am able to tell where tent city used to be, now it is different location. But I don't feel uncomfortable for still not having explored some places. But when you find some high end weapon, with little ammunition and you don't have any skill at all with it then it is weird. Or, I imagine, it would be very weird to find a Helicopter, and have absolutely no idea how to play with it lol

Not surprised by negativity about upcoming 1.0

Because you have to adjust your ambitions realistically, and good quality has to be always priority over quantity. Obviously DayZ is huge task, especially as it is suspicious that Bohemia didn't put adequate resources, or for some particular reasons it happened to be rather tight on man power, I just can't imagine how much heavy it is for the ones responsible for coding. It is quite obvious that nowadays people are rather spoiled, and gaming has never been so much about hype and craving for new/next content, items... the experience is getting pushed to the background in games industry. DayZ did many mistakes raising the bar... Now it has to come back to reality. The way I see it is that game is not going to be postponed years further because of some content and features, which aren't essential. Also it will be possible to finish the foundation, imagine it would be difficult to build foundation while building walls and roof at the same time while the building is also being exploited already. We just have to accept our "loss", to me it is sad that there aren't going to be bikes/bicycles, whats worse is that they are not even mentioned at all.. I am often really sick of running for hours, really bad lack of variety in ways of travel. Probably will have to rely on some modded gimmick bikes/bicycles. But I don't worry too much, because IMO DayZ only needs good gameplay in the first place, which is mostly depended on basic stuff like spawn points, loot economy... and of course the proper foundation which will mean that game will run well. The wait is also killing DayZ, and devs, not hard to understand that. -
Yes, it is the only logical reason to be against 1.0. But it is just wrong assumption which for some reason got widely spread. The game can be absolutely awesome, and yet few sentences about annoying stuff can break the image much more than few sentences about missing content, and missing content is not going to be obvious for absolute majority. Broken stuff is very obvious. It is like going into forest full of wolves with bacon suit.

Maybe there will be enough of survival anyway, you'll still get hungry, still going to be bitten by zombie or wolf. You'll still get shot by someone which will attack you, or will successfully defend from your attack. I'd say "passive" survival coming after that is logical.

LOL "stabbed in the back", "worst option", "added frustration to people who are already angry", "you are convincing yourselves"... Can you believe in manipulation level of this guy. I just don't get how persistent are current DayZ fans to block releasing the game. Even when they are acknowledged that it is not going to have an effect for end product content and features, and that 1.0 doesn't mean finish. For me it is ridiculous how gamers these days are all about hype and waiting, actual gaming and good experience is kinda a background thing...

I totaly meant the same thing. It always should be so various, some friendly interactions, some battles, just simply everything possible and happening. To be more exact last few years of DayZ was super dull for me too. I had plenty of fun in DayZ in 0.54-0.57 or something like that, where "are you friendly" was a common phrase. It was rather often that you meet people, there always were bandits, or maybe some were just simpletons "I see i kill". But there definitely was some creative bandits, but half or maybe even more than half of players was friendly, and I used to have lots of conversations in DayZ. Later it flipped, it became rare to meet people, conversations became super rare, as it became more rare to meet someone relatively "just killing" increased a lot. There is obvious correlation between amount of interactions and their quality. Super rare interactions might drive people into just going for pvp or kill, too much might spoil it, but i don't think there can be too much, map is simply too big for that. -

You miss one thing, which is that majority of peaople doesn't like or can spend multiple hours in a game and achieve absolutely nothing, and have no challenge. Lets be a bit more exact and expand your two seconds to ~twenty minutes. Also lets assume that Chernarus is 14x14km and lots of different pace is achievable in different places. Also you miss a thing that spawning and loot economy is going to be adjustable, also allowing everyone to have his own best thing. You can simply play in lesser populated server... Do you get it now ? DayZ essentially is a game which is full of potential, and appeal to creativity, has possibility to so many different ways of great experience. And you want it to work only in one way. But I am too tired to explain it all over again, I've done it so many times already. -
Deadline does not only consists of a date. Deadline is also a must to do work. If must to do work can be adjusted, then deadline automatically gets adjusted as well. So 1.0 is relative. 1.0 doesn't have to bring loads of stuff for existing players that already nearly played out the game during most boring gameplay years, but it has to bring good experience to newcomers and people who didin't play DayZ for a long time.

I think running for three hours, searching houses, not finding anything, most importantly not having any interactions, collecting weapons in empty server and then ghosting out, only playing in warm sunshine is a dumbed down version of DayZ, basically past few years. Now it is more than likely to change. The importance of interactions is unquestionable, if interactions are happening in 1.0, game runs well, and everything is adjustable forproper gameplay. Then all additional content and features are just a bonus details which will just make it better soon after.

What if 1.0 is actually awesome even with limited stuff ?

I don't get why so many people around DayZ are so mad about it leaving early access. While it was obvious that it is going to be exactly like that at least half a year ago. It was obvious that project is too ambitious for how Bohemia was handling it to come all together in time. I don't know why you are panicking if nothing was canceled. I am certain that DayZ can be very entertaining with smaller package, the only thing what is needed is to make good use of it and there will be all kinds of servers, hopefully full. And I would expect details filling in the game regularly and rapidly and this time for good. 1.0 is really anything, it is supertask, you can go after it forever. I think it is great that core stability is +/- achieved and DayZ can be unleashed, I think it is fair to be 1.0 if it just works well and there are enough of game really. While many of you found DayZ fun in last few years, most of you are actually minority, many people found DayZ desperately lacking interactions and experiences, and simply didn't play. I have read in reddit a post where people are concerned that with less weapons they will have no business in DayZ, as they basically are collecting weapons. And they are like "what else you can do in this game" ? That is so incredibly wrong, in DayZ you are creating experience, different experience each time... You can be damn weapons collector, cars collector, bikes and bicycles collector, teddy bears collector, mushrooms collector whatever.. you can be just traveler survivor, you can be criminal survivor, you can be guarding a town from bandits, endless stuff.. DayZ is about being active, and surviving challenges. It is about creativity. Not about running in low population server and collecting weapons, it is lowest end goal I can think of.

Well perhaps true. I still think that naturaly more scandinavians will be in such server, than in USA server. And it is great to have some servers dedicated to convetional PVP. It is enjoyable and it is better to do many mistakes in one hour of DM and learn from them, rather than hundred hours of normal DayZ. I was so unsuccesful in DayZ in the past, that I used to ask myself why do I even search for that high end stuff, if I'll fail within first or second threat or not even use it. But the best DayZ is with normal interatctions where some players are friendly and social, and some are bandits then adding zombies, wolves, bears, weather, player status... best DayZ. And of course not hours of running from house to house.
-
Well hopefully game will be fun experience and very eventfull like in the earlier years, so missing content and features won't be so bad, and not for long hopefully. With proper adjustment DayZ can be very fun even with limited features and content. With proper adjustments and plenty of players to fill servers with those adjustments. But speaking of content I feel concerned about bikes/bicycles not being mentioned at all. But hey, it is just a game.

I think DayZ by default is about to become great rather soon. At least judging by how things have been evolving lately, and how game plays right now. But DayZ players has always been spread across many different servers anyway. There are some examples where mods makes way into official game content. Like for example Kunos with Assetto Corsa, later when they had enough content they just said goodbye to modders. Thats for various reasons, enough content and distraction modding created and so on... Perhaps there will be few mods which will/would fit to vanilla DayZ, who knows... DayZ SA itself is a mod which actually become a full game. Perhaps you suggest that there might be a mod to DayZ SA which would become a standalone game too, DayZ SA^2 ? :D I don't really get how players being spread in number of different mods would be bad. As long as there will be some highly populated servers for each type of gameplay it will not make that much difference. And I have no doubt that vanilla DayZ will be dominating anyway. Hopefully player base will increase with increasing amount of choices.

There were nothing to do in DayZ in general, but now it is becoming better. Stresstest #50 is rather epic, there are few little issues, but nothing majorly bad. It feels so much more entertaining than current experimental build, and I enjoy current experimental build. It is not purely DayZ in this stresstest as it is mainly DM in NWAF and vehicles testing, but it is just beautiful. Becoming pretty happy about DayZ, I think there is not going to be a thread like "it's been 7 years" :D Also some tips of basebuilding appeared, if you find axe and you go to the tree you can see options for basebuilding, I guess you are going to look for groups to build bases, I suppose it might be difficult to build bases alone. Hopefully axes aren't going to get ruined by few trees like it used to be earlier.

Writing Notes...The biggest "small" content mechanic.
Mantasisg replied to philbur's topic in General Discussion
Sorry my reply might have sounded a bit harsh, I constantly forget that we are writing, and you can't totally express yourself by a tone, body language and so on... I can not see your particular text anymore, so I can not really apologise. And I don't think that it takes a lot to implement those particular items, probably done in minutes. -
I can't see vanilla being obsolete, unless it is going to stay 2hours running and finding nothing simulator. Vanilla will be dominating if ways of transportation will be balanced properly, game will be eventful, and looting is not going to be main focus and essence of survival, but interactions with players zombies and various other environment threats will be it. It is just a great shame that it is not yet like that. The bright side of poor mods is that various unimaginative simpletons will be in their Lamborghini servers, so no issue.

Writing Notes...The biggest "small" content mechanic.
Mantasisg replied to philbur's topic in General Discussion
It also would be cool if notes were very quickly to check, like just tab while it is near to you, and note would be instantly on the screen, without a need to pick up every single paper to check if anything is written. It would be great, picking it up and you read: "I SEE YOU", and then boom you get knocked-out. P.S. I don't get this please scrap masks and teddy bears. Thats none of your business lol It reminds me how a guy was asking to remove storm weather from driving simulator, as it felt wrong for it to be there in his opinion. P.P.S. I remember where there were a scrapyard near berezino, plus loot economy was good and it was good place to find something. Also risky place. Once as I was leaving the spot two or three guys with those scary masks approached me, forced to give everything to them and then shot me in the legs and left. That was when original DayZ concept was fun, eventful. -
Months ago I speculated that it is one of the reasons why underground structures doesn't exist in DayZ. DayZ did amazing job with how additional lights works indoors at night. Also as I was playing recently I really enjoyed how exposure works, when you are in a room which is supposed to be darker than outside, you see how much brighter outside appears, also when you leave the house exposure takes a bit time to adjust, even when you go through woods and it is supposed to be darker in there, and you see a well lit tree trunk it appears almost glowing till exposure adjusts, that is a really great effect. But it doesn't seem to work the other way around, and I haven't seen in any game that it would work the other way around, that when you go from much brighter zone to much darker there would be an opposite effect, especially should be noticeable in winter when everything is white and super bright outside. Thats exactly the reason why raytracing is such a big deal. People say that raytracing doesn't do that much of a difference, but thats till you get into such situations when good lighting in all situations is becoming important. Also they has no idea how much development time goes into faking the light effects by doing various stuff with textures, shaders, invisible objects and all sorts of things and then it still doesn't look right in all ways. 5-6 years more and raytracing will be a normal thing in most games. P.S. really excited about counter-measure thing to stop gamma abuse.

Yes ! We want to run and run for hours for loot hide in bushes and get KOS - thats DayZ, modders will ruin it, server files already did plenty of harm ! I hate when those other guys has to get their good things !

I'm commiting. Taking my crystal ball. The future will be like that - most hated two letters in gaming industry "EA", will stop being used so much in DayZ topics. The DayZ price will rise. Some people will be happy that they actually didn't refund the game. The game will be finished and will start its life cycle, and hopefully will be played by normal people again. There will be modding, there will be a bunch of hella stupid and retarded anti climatic mods, but proper mods will dominate in modding grounds, however the most popular will be unmodded DayZ because people will be too tired to download and try mods and there will be too many bad ones, so modding reputation is going to be average. 93m meters tall statue of Dean Hall holding a 1:4 sized Saturn V rocket will be built by the coast, and will be nasty snipping spot. Radiation around Tissy will result in some weird muttations of animals and zombies. I'm really looking forward for next revolution of DayZ SA lifecycle. I'll run DayZ independently of BI and off steam. Why ?? I don't know, just sounds rebellious, even though makes no sense. I wonder what will make it first to the game bicycles and bikes or modding.
-
So it is eithers devs are finished or the game lol wut Whats up about vigor, xbox releases like for real, the world is like moving forward. By the way, I wonder which will be developed first, helis or bikes and bicycles. But seriously the wait is a bit stretched out too much by now, but less than two months are left, right ?

As far as I understand it is meant that you shouldn't buy the game when it is uninteresting and cheap, but you should when it is guarantee entertaining and expensive :D Unless you are really mad about it. I suppose early access is successful when certain amount of people buy the product to support it, but it is not successful if lets suppose most buys it in EA, and then only minority after it is finished. But I suppose in practice it is not an issue. Anyway... the art has to be sell enough but not too much in EA, and then increase attraction as price will get risen.
-
Devs must be close to something by now. Server files release is already something big IMO Playing in 100 player servers, and different modes and configurations is already pretty great sign of game switching from "leave me alone" to "lets have some good time". And it works rather well as far as I can tell. Vehicles, basebuilding and massive optimisations were mentioned on the high note in last RP, so lets see... And then hopefully modding is also not too far.
