    Can't combine items?

You're not alone! Anything you combine (can and can openers, sewing kits and damaged items, cutting up sticks) isn't currently working in-game. I'm guessing the Devs are working on this.

    Server Help!

Hello, I have a tiny (4 slot) rented server from Nitrado. And I'm trying my very best not to panic and run around screaming. I rented the server mainly for me and couple of friends to explore in peace and have some fun with the mods when they arrive. But...I have no idea what I'm doing. So far, I have changed the name of the server, passworded it and set the server date and time (to the 21st June at 8am, with a six-hourly restart). I must confess I was terrified fiddling with the code...I feared I may wipe the server, or do something accidently naughty and get banned from DayZ for life! Question 1: Can I muck around with spawn locations and character starting gear on a rented server? Or am I heading straight for a ban? Question 2: Is there a DayZ Servers for Dummies that holds my hand, gives me gentle and kind words of reassurance, while I interfer with the all those scary lines of code? Thank you!

    Status Report - 27 March 2018

Thank you so much for the Status Report. It's getting so close now. The echo inside the warehouse in the video is very, very nice. I do have one quesiton - Are streamers going to get permission to stream the stress tests? Once again, thank you for all you're doing. In Beta We Trust, Support We Must!

    respawned under house

There are two way to deal with this without the need to F11 and respawn. 1. Position yourself next to a wall and run at it. Ask the nice friendly US3 Colony server admins to kick you from the server while you're during this. When you log back in, you'll be outside the wall. 2. Repeat the first step and then pull your ethernet cable out while running. Apparently, for a few seconds, you're both on the server and aren't. And you'll be able to move through walls like a ghost. Good luck.

    Status Report - 13 February 2018

Good question. I always get excited at changes to the map, whether its the Western Expansion, New Cherno, Tisy, new buildings like the radio station at Altar and the redesign of villages like Myskino. But the tourist trails are a little more than 'Cool, new stuff!'. It will mean a whole new way to travel around the map. Rather than taking the routes I've run so many, many times, I'll be able to see 'another' Chernarus, and it will feel to me like the 'Secret Chernarus', the hidden roads that cross woods and fields. So, I get excited and am keen to see the trails that Adam and the team have made for us. Sorry.

Would steam issue me a refund?

I don't think Steams refund policy has anything to do with Bohemia Interactive. On the DayZ store page there is a very clear warning...and I quote... "THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME" Additionally, you purchased the game over a year ago and have 64 hours in game and as such you exceed the criteria of published Steam refund policy. Just uninstall and forget you ever bought it.

I'm sorry, I'm about to do a Veruca Salt. I want to walk the tourist trails! With a backpack, a camping stove, and the grass for my pillow! And I want it NOW! Sorry... Normal adult behaviour will resume shortly... Keep going, you beautiful people, we're almost there. It's so close now, that I can hear 0.63 is whispering. IN BETA WE TRUST!

    Multiple Characters on specific servers..?

Playing this morning, I joined off an friend on what he told me was a Public Unofficial. We looted up for a little while till the server restarted. We have a little tradition of taking alternative turns selecting a server (I live in the UK, he in the US...for the ping, baby!) when we experience a restart. I chose a UK Official server and arrived as a fresh spawn north of Rify which was definitely not where I was on the previous server. I put the disrepancy down to him accidently selecting a Private server despite him swearing it was a Public. But having read your post, I might owe him an apology. Have the Official and Unofficial servers had a divorce? Are they no longer on speaking terms?

    Basebuilding....why?

There will always be wanderers, who need nothing but the grass for a pillow. There will always be those who need a little bolt hole, somewhere to call home. And there will always be those who want to build a gleaming city on the hill, for they drive towards civilisation. And of course, there are always those who seek to tear it all down.

    Simple question about tent.

You've been raided and emerged on the other side relatively intact. It isn't unknown for players to remove everything, casting it to the floor, packing the tent and leaving it to despawn. And as you've still got a tent with items inside, I'd say you were lucky. Nice of them to leave you some apples. A poor trade, but it could have been a lot worse. May I suggest you move? Find a new location to set up home?

To less tins (food) in game

A few days ago, I ran at the Dean Hall zombie screaming 'Give me your kiwi, you bastard.' Which, I must confess, is a sentence I never thought I would utter. DayZ, opening whole new worlds of possibilities.

Dont wanna make new thread?Use this!

Rainbows Question: Are there rainbows or (as mostly likely, I have the 'I like FPS' setting on) is it me? I've just been wandering around a rather wet, soggy and depressing Novo. I climbed to the top of the town hall and saw the sun through the rain. Ah-ha! I turned around to see the rainbow and was rather disheartened not to see one. I want rainbows... ...and unicorns would be nice too.

But...the cardboard box adds that touch of the post-apocalypse that only increases immersion and authenticity.

    Newbie Questions

You need to look inside the clothes. There you'll find tins, sometimes ammo, and the odd useful item. The Infected also have tinned food on them occassionally. The Dean Hall Infected always has a kiwi on him (because he's from New Zealand...) The other 'free' food is the apple. Otherwise, you're hunting and fishing (chickens are everywhere and will provide two chicken breasts, feathers, guts and two bones). Bones can be crafted into a spear, bone arrows and fish hooks. Wolves have good eating on them, if you survive of course. Regarding horticulture - pumpkins are your perfect orange friends. If anything, there's still too much 'free' food available. But that's just a personal opinion.
  18. An apple for the teacher...Thank you, Mr Mookie.
  19. Sooooooo, basically the Infected can't drown either. The virus/bacteria/whatever that caused the Infection is remarkable. The Infected aren't effected* by the cold (happily standing around in the pouring rain, drenched, while we mere mortals are dead of hypothemia in 20 minutes without intervention). They don't need fluids (ever seen an Infected crack open a can or use the water pumps?) and food is completely optional. And now, apparently, the Infected don't need oxygen. It's an amazing disease. I mean, apart from the rage and the terrible skin complexion and the aimless wandering around. Ah...now there's a backstory. Naughty scienists attempting to create a super soldier, one who doesn't need food or water, is immune to temperature extremes and doesn't actually need oxygen...are astonished when it all goes horribly wrong...as these things so often do. Is it effected or affected? Sod it, you know what I mean! No, it's definitely effected. Affected is something you do. Effected is something that happens to you. Right? Yeah? Apparently, I'm completely wrong. It should be affected. Bugger.

Q&A with Map Designer Adam Franců

Firstly I would like to express my respect and admiration for the work you and your team have already achieved on the Chernarus+ Map. There are many times I catch myself simply looking in wonder at the scenery, whether it's the sunlight catching the dome of the church in Pogo, or haunting menace of Prison Island emerging from the sea mist, or looking over the north from the cliffs at Stary Yar, it is such a beautiful place. It looks stunning yet feels like a very real place by skillfully merging the 'old' architectual styles of Chernarus and the 'new' concrete Brutalism of the Soviet era with a diverse landscape. Thank you so much for making my journey across Chernarus as breathtaking as possible. But enough of the praise and onto the business at hand. Firstly, Chernarus has several unique pieces of architecture, for example the radar dish at Tisy, HMS Brian Hicks at Rify, Prison Island and the castles. Are you planning anymore unique additions? Secondly, will there ever be a 'Chernarus Below', a subterranean world of mines, cellars, secret bunkers? Finally, on a completely silly note, who is responisble for the interior design of many of the houses? Because there are some really questionable choices in wallpaper and curtains. I have been known to mutter on several occassions 'those curtains offend me,' and 'that is a ghastly choice of wallpaper,'. Once again, thank you.

    Framed Chernarus Map

I have on my dining room wall a selection of retro travel prints of famous sci-fi and fantasy places (Arrakis, King's Landing, LV-426 etc). I would dearly love a collection of travel poster from DayZ to join them - specially if they were in the style of the old Soviet Intourist posters. For example, Leningrad... Or Charkov I keep wondering what the posters for Cherno, or Berezino, or even Tisy would look like. Sadly, I am no artist. They will probably have to live in my imagination only.

    Found My First Ammo Box

Yes, just like the protector case and barrel, the ammo box is permanent. They are very sought after as they have eight slots, are small, and green. They make an excellent re-supply crate near spawn points as they're very hard to spot. I have a few stashed about - usually with a raincoat, burlap sack, a rope, a bottle of water, some matches and a stack of rags.
  23. Once upon a time, if you were in a vehicle at restart, you would spawn back in where you last had your feet on the ground. Your vehicle would be where ever it last registered on the map. So, if you'd been in No Man's Land (naughty!) and the server had restarted I'm guessing you'd have found yourself back where you last had your feet on the ground and your vehicle would have been lost. Regarding the helicopter....well, if the DayZ gods are feeling merciful, then the same rule would apply. You'd spawn in where ever you'd last touched the ground. Your helicopter will probably crash and burn during the restart. However, if the gods are against you. You'll be crashing and dying during the restart and you'll find yourself back on the beach making sand castles. If you plan to fly a plane or helicopter, it would be wise to keep an eye on the time.

    DayZ Distractions

I always saw the smoking helicopters as hopeful. Okay, not very hopeful for the poor buggers inside when it crashed but it was an indication that there was life outside Chernarus. The rusty helicopters have been there for a long time. But the smokers, they've only just happened which means in the world outside there remains enough infrastructure and people to fuel and maintain military helicopters...which is a positive thought, if slightly morbid. Of course, whoever designed and maintained those helicopters are in for a right royal bollocking because their failure rate is appalling.
  25. I have finally been reunited with my dear old friend Albert, better known to most as the sedan. I found Albert at the factory north of Solnichniy and I was, to put it mildly, overjoyed. Oh, how I have missed you Albert! My companion and I worked tirelessly finding tyres and all the bits and bobs Albert needs and finally we were rewarded when the engine turned over...okay, I must confess, I'd completely forgotten how to drive and sat there asking 'Why aren't you moving, you horrid bucket of rust and malevolence?' till I remember the concept of gears. During my little outing, I uncovered a few...hiccups...and I would like to share a few of my observations with you, dear reader. First Observation - The speedometer and the gear thingy (you know, the numbers at the bottom left of the screen) are fabulous. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Second Observation - I'm something of a veteran of the slightly flighty sedan. Once, you never dared to take it above 2nd gear for fear of spinning wildly out of control. I am delighted to report that the drive was firm and not a hint of a wiggle even at 70+kpm. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Third Observation - Oh dear God, the desync! According to what I saw, I'd past the high school in Zelenogorsk and heading on the road to Pogo. According to what my companion saw, I'd crashed into a lamp post just up from the police station. Goodbye two tyres. Fourth Observation - It is entirely possible to drive at 70+kpm on two wheels. TL:DR The cars are back! Or, according to another thread on this esteemed forum, they are in fact camouflaged cows.
