  1. An apple for the teacher...Thank you, Mr Mookie.
  2. Sooooooo, basically the Infected can't drown either. The virus/bacteria/whatever that caused the Infection is remarkable. The Infected aren't effected* by the cold (happily standing around in the pouring rain, drenched, while we mere mortals are dead of hypothemia in 20 minutes without intervention). They don't need fluids (ever seen an Infected crack open a can or use the water pumps?) and food is completely optional. And now, apparently, the Infected don't need oxygen. It's an amazing disease. I mean, apart from the rage and the terrible skin complexion and the aimless wandering around. Ah...now there's a backstory. Naughty scienists attempting to create a super soldier, one who doesn't need food or water, is immune to temperature extremes and doesn't actually need oxygen...are astonished when it all goes horribly wrong...as these things so often do. Is it effected or affected? Sod it, you know what I mean! No, it's definitely effected. Affected is something you do. Effected is something that happens to you. Right? Yeah? Apparently, I'm completely wrong. It should be affected. Bugger.

Q&A with Map Designer Adam Franců

Firstly I would like to express my respect and admiration for the work you and your team have already achieved on the Chernarus+ Map. There are many times I catch myself simply looking in wonder at the scenery, whether it's the sunlight catching the dome of the church in Pogo, or haunting menace of Prison Island emerging from the sea mist, or looking over the north from the cliffs at Stary Yar, it is such a beautiful place. It looks stunning yet feels like a very real place by skillfully merging the 'old' architectual styles of Chernarus and the 'new' concrete Brutalism of the Soviet era with a diverse landscape. Thank you so much for making my journey across Chernarus as breathtaking as possible. But enough of the praise and onto the business at hand. Firstly, Chernarus has several unique pieces of architecture, for example the radar dish at Tisy, HMS Brian Hicks at Rify, Prison Island and the castles. Are you planning anymore unique additions? Secondly, will there ever be a 'Chernarus Below', a subterranean world of mines, cellars, secret bunkers? Finally, on a completely silly note, who is responisble for the interior design of many of the houses? Because there are some really questionable choices in wallpaper and curtains. I have been known to mutter on several occassions 'those curtains offend me,' and 'that is a ghastly choice of wallpaper,'. Once again, thank you.

    Framed Chernarus Map

I have on my dining room wall a selection of retro travel prints of famous sci-fi and fantasy places (Arrakis, King's Landing, LV-426 etc). I would dearly love a collection of travel poster from DayZ to join them - specially if they were in the style of the old Soviet Intourist posters. For example, Leningrad... Or Charkov I keep wondering what the posters for Cherno, or Berezino, or even Tisy would look like. Sadly, I am no artist. They will probably have to live in my imagination only.

    Found My First Ammo Box

Yes, just like the protector case and barrel, the ammo box is permanent. They are very sought after as they have eight slots, are small, and green. They make an excellent re-supply crate near spawn points as they're very hard to spot. I have a few stashed about - usually with a raincoat, burlap sack, a rope, a bottle of water, some matches and a stack of rags.
  6. Once upon a time, if you were in a vehicle at restart, you would spawn back in where you last had your feet on the ground. Your vehicle would be where ever it last registered on the map. So, if you'd been in No Man's Land (naughty!) and the server had restarted I'm guessing you'd have found yourself back where you last had your feet on the ground and your vehicle would have been lost. Regarding the helicopter....well, if the DayZ gods are feeling merciful, then the same rule would apply. You'd spawn in where ever you'd last touched the ground. Your helicopter will probably crash and burn during the restart. However, if the gods are against you. You'll be crashing and dying during the restart and you'll find yourself back on the beach making sand castles. If you plan to fly a plane or helicopter, it would be wise to keep an eye on the time.

    DayZ Distractions

I always saw the smoking helicopters as hopeful. Okay, not very hopeful for the poor buggers inside when it crashed but it was an indication that there was life outside Chernarus. The rusty helicopters have been there for a long time. But the smokers, they've only just happened which means in the world outside there remains enough infrastructure and people to fuel and maintain military helicopters...which is a positive thought, if slightly morbid. Of course, whoever designed and maintained those helicopters are in for a right royal bollocking because their failure rate is appalling.
  8. I have finally been reunited with my dear old friend Albert, better known to most as the sedan. I found Albert at the factory north of Solnichniy and I was, to put it mildly, overjoyed. Oh, how I have missed you Albert! My companion and I worked tirelessly finding tyres and all the bits and bobs Albert needs and finally we were rewarded when the engine turned over...okay, I must confess, I'd completely forgotten how to drive and sat there asking 'Why aren't you moving, you horrid bucket of rust and malevolence?' till I remember the concept of gears. During my little outing, I uncovered a few...hiccups...and I would like to share a few of my observations with you, dear reader. First Observation - The speedometer and the gear thingy (you know, the numbers at the bottom left of the screen) are fabulous. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Second Observation - I'm something of a veteran of the slightly flighty sedan. Once, you never dared to take it above 2nd gear for fear of spinning wildly out of control. I am delighted to report that the drive was firm and not a hint of a wiggle even at 70+kpm. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Third Observation - Oh dear God, the desync! According to what I saw, I'd past the high school in Zelenogorsk and heading on the road to Pogo. According to what my companion saw, I'd crashed into a lamp post just up from the police station. Goodbye two tyres. Fourth Observation - It is entirely possible to drive at 70+kpm on two wheels. TL:DR The cars are back! Or, according to another thread on this esteemed forum, they are in fact camouflaged cows.

Q&A with Lead Animator Viktor Kostik

Are there any plans to animate 'nice' interactions with other players? For example, shaking hands, hugging. We can torture people, hit them, kill them in a whole variety of ways. I just think it would be...lovely...if we could touch our friends or interact with them. Braces for incoming derision. Oh, yes. Could we have some new underwear? Thank you.

    Ghost Zombies

I posted the following on the Steam forum a couple of days ago. I must say I'm very curious to find out if you've found how to exorcise the 'Ghost Zombies' ... This morning, approaching Novaya Petrovka from the Topolniki side, I spied two zombies and quickly dispatched them with my trusted surpressed Glock. Silence... *WHACK* What is this? A zombie has snuck up behind me? Pah! Impossible! *WHACK* I turn round, my gun ready to send this cur on its way. Yet no zombie did I see. *WHACK* I can not hit what I cannot see! What new devilry is this? Have I brought the curses of the Gods down upon me? I summond my spear and prodded arounded me. *WHACK* Oh, bugger. I'm bleeding. I must confess at this point I took the cowards way out and legged it. What can I see? What can assist me in my moment of despair? The Novaya apartments! I can climb the ladder to the roof! No zombies can climb ladders (I hope)! I ran up the stairs, not stopping to go 'Oooooh! Tents!' The ladder was within my grasp... *WHACK* I fly out of the window and plummet to my death on the cold, cruel concrete of Chernarus. Goodbye, Mr Puggle (my teddy bear). At least, we went together in the end. TL:DR Invisable zombies, you say? Oh, yes. I've met one. ...

    Make containers useful again

Except the stone knife, the cooking pot is the most useful item in the game. You can catch rain with it (and then purify it), fill it at the well or from any water source (and then purify it), holds four itemslot worth of anything, it keeps your most precious items safe from the Infected....and it cooks things! Just wish they'd make them look like Le Creuset.

    Crafted Storageplace / Hide

On the DayZ Trello, from November 2015, someone has posted in the 'In Progress' section an image of a 'Hidden Stash'. With it being posted back in November 2015, it might be something currently on the 'back burner' while they're ironing out other issues. I think whoever is in this screenshot has deliberately dressed themselves as a pirate! :D

    Status Report - 10 January 2017

For the first time since I started playing, I came, this weekend, to dread the sound of the Infected. Crouched by the well at Kabanino, hearing them beyond the wall, I felt very trapped and very alone (despite having Mr Hicks the teddy bear with me). Well done.
