Shoot out windows in passenger seats of cars?

Chernarussian drive-by's!! X) How bulletproof is the door skin going to be, though? Because it's pretty easy to punch through a car door and window/windshield with most standard munitions... Most rounds will still be quite lethal too. Honestly, an unaltered car is pretty much a death trap to a bunch of armed combatants going up against armed combatants... It's just a box of 1/8" (3-ish mm?) sheet steel and glass, and let's not also forget that these vehicles are pretty badly rusted and compromised... Only thing the steel might stop is .22lr, and the glass (sans the windshield, maybe) won't stop jack. :P And speaking of alterations, it would be very interesting to add expedient "bullet-proofing" to doors by adding books to the inner panels; Mythbusters proved it's slightly plausible, better so than unaltered doors, though their .50bmg punched right through with ease... Mainly cuz it's .50bmg, and there's not a lot you can do to stop that round... ;) Unfortunately, in most videogames, cars and stuff are near-impenetrable tanks... A standard car in something like Grand Theft Auto will take a whole mag and a half before it becomes undriveable. In the first Halo game, you had to shoot the player out of the spot to get them off the vehicle (dunno about the rest of them, didn't play them). Etc... When in reality, unarmored vehicles are notoriously easy to punch through...

    Nightshade

It's native to Eastern Europe (where Chernarus is supposed to be), and poisonous as hell; one leaf, a few milligrams of root, or a handful (8-10) of berries will kill an adult human inside a few hours... Further, without proper identification knowledge, you're really not supposed to eat berries in a survival situation, as they could turn out to be very highly poisonous; same with mushrooms (though also because mushrooms provide little to no actual nutritional value).... Also, it has been used since antiquity for medicinal and assassination purposes, from making poison-tipped arrows to making laced wines; it's so totally a craftable item, even better if there's a slight chance of "you made a mistake while applying the poison and now feel ill"... :D It would be really nifty, I think, to add nightshade or other poisonous plants. We already have two types of edible berries and even edible fruit-producing trees... In fact, the first time I found the black/blue/whatever berries, I was very reluctant to feed them to my character, as I wasn't sure if it was something like nightshade or not... The in-game model should be a similar berry bush model that reaches up to six feet and spreads as far as it can drop berries, with green leaves, little purple cup-like flowers, and black berries... I can provide pictures of my own A. belladonna plant, if you need reference... :D And speaking of wild plant life, when is that rhubarb model going to be harvestable? :D (You can't fool me, I so totally saw rhubarb plants somewhere north of the Vybor air field a while back)... Also, when are you going to add strawberries and sugar cane/beets, so's we can make our own Strawberry Rhubarb wine in-game, and then add bees so we can make strawberry rhubarb mead! :D And then, with the addition of nightshade to the cooking pot (gotta mix and heat your initial mash/wort/brine/whatever you call it, before sticking in the yeast and fermenting your wine), crafting poison wines for to assassinate unsuspecting players with...

    Nightshade

Actually, that's a good point. Atropine is anticholinergic, and can work against toxins with a cholinergic property. In fact, I have a garden pesticide in my garage that names "Atropine chloride" as a treatment for accidental poisoning... :D But, yes it could indeed be used quite inefficiently to combat the effects of certain chemical weapons... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atropine#Poisonings Still, though, nightshade WILL kill you if you get a lethal dose, and a lethal dose isn't very much from a mature plant... Honestly, I think it would be a very interesting game mechanic, almost like a DoT (Damage over time) spell or ability in other MMO's. It would be way interesting if the devs actually developed it far enough to be accurate to accounts of survived poisonings, where they see what look like player characters running around that aren't really there (just a model with starting clothes under NPC control), hear noises (pre-recorded speech files, animal calls from animals that are so totally NOT in-game like elephans and lions and stuff, sound effects being played randomly, etc. could work), blurred and kaleidoscoped vision, etc..... Though, I wouldn't be mad if it was just a simple DoT effect or double-damage or something.

    The Endless Waste

They could just erect a political border with some form of physical barrier (say c-wire, jersey barriers, HESCO walls, or military base fence, or even a combination of them all), extend the roads off into the wastes a bit and gate them off with like a turnpike arm thing, maybe even a lootable guard shack on the Chernarus side, etc... Thus it would look as if we were quarantined in a country... Could spawn zombie Soldiers along the border as well, to sort of suggest that the quarantine didn't work and the virus has spread out of Chernarus, and there's probably not going to be much foreign aid coming our way, etc... Could also add a bit of a sea barrier (the floatie lane lines you see at pools, but with a net extending to the bottom) to deter people from just swimming around or something, though without literally anything over that way, there's not really much reason to... Though, I do agree that either way they go, they should naturalize the border a bit better; most borders follow a natural path, not a lot of them are straight lines... Though, straight-line borders do indeed exist; look at Connecticut or Colorado or the Midwest... :P For added horror, they could add a section of fence line that was ripped open by a whole bunch of panicked and fleeing Chernarussian non-infecteds, and were put down by the opposing military, and there was a hasty repair to it, but there's still a huge pile of bodies on the wrong side of the fence.... Those danged Beloslavian Soldiers, anyhow!! At least the Polorabians to the west had heart enough to allow non-infecteds through, at least for a little while...

    Nightshade

It all depends on how they wish to implement it, if at all... But, it's not a very survivable substance; there's a reason its common name is "Deadly Nightshade"... :D

    Nightshade

My bad, I've not really played with the archery aspects too much. Thanks. :)

    Nightshade

As for realism, I'd suspect a modern broadhead similar to the style seen in-game (with the skeletonized cavity in the head) could hold a whole LOT of concentrated belladonna poison! Further, nightshade has indeed been used since its discovery well into the BC times for poisoned weaponry for both hunting and assassination, so the sharpened wooden arrow and stone arrowhead can also be poisoned, along with crossbow bolts, etc... It would be a very interesting way to kill a player character... After a player gets hit with a poisoned arrow, they would run off and bandage themselves (granted you are stealthy enough to not get spotted and killed in the process, etc), but after a few minutes, the game would start with kaleidoscope colors on the edges of your screen, your vision would blur, vomiting, "I am feeling very sick" coming up in red letters, auditory and visual hallucinations (delirium, flashes of reality that aren't real, not like cartoon characters sitting on your shoulders) could be a thing, then you'd black out and die. It could be sped up to say 10-ish minutes after a successful shot (as opposed to real life, where it would take a hot minute depending on the dose), requiring the PK to track down his prey... OR! It could just be a double/triple-damage modifier to in-game arrows, to keep it simple. :D Or, if you eat the "suspect berries", as they could be named (to give newbies and poison seekers a heads-up, maybe), the same effects as above would occur... And depending on how many handfuls you eat, it could result in death inside of a minute; Eat a handful and your vision starts getting blurry but you can survive if you wait say a half-hour in-game (because nobody wants to have their character unplayable for up to a week, as is sometimes the case in real life belladonna poisonings), eat a second handful and you get the effects of above, eat a third, and the screen just goes black and "You are dead" comes up.... Though again, to keep it simple, it could just be like drinking the gasoline (boy was that an adventure)... The worst part about it too, is that the natural "cure" is a counteracting poisonous berry, so you're fighting poison with poison... Also, the sources are largely native to North/South America and Africa, both in the tropics, far far away from Eastern Europe, so there's really no need to program in a "cure"... And worse, even if there were "cure" berries, they'd have to poison you in the same way where you'd have to seek out nightshade to "cure" yourself, and again you're fighting poisons with poisons, so you're probably just gonna end up killing yourself with poisonous plants because you can't exactly control the dosage in a lone survival situation.... In a real-life situation, you'd go to a hospital and they'd be able to administer some form of antidote in a controlled way... However, the likelihood of smaller town hospitals having the antidote on-hand is pretty slim, and they'd have to have it rushed/flown in from a poison control center somewhere close by (I live in a small-town state where our biggest city is like 200,000 people; I know what it's like to be in medical need 30 miles from the nearest hospital, and it SUCKS).... ^ That's mostly the reason I don't bother harvesting animal game in-game; I'm betting eating it raw will probably make me sick, and I don't much feel like making a fire or carrying a cook stove or carrying a cooking pot/skillet, when there's canned food and apples readily available... In the real world, yeah... In a videogame, sod that, I barely wanna feed/water my character the way it is! :P BioHaze: It's your fault you interpreted it that way. Further, please keep discussions in their respective threads; nobody likes drama being spread all over a forum.

    Clothing logic

Personally, I'd like to see ponchos added. Also, dry bags shouldn't take up a huge slot of inventory and require you take them out every time you want to access the stuff inside; it should be just a modification to the bag (if the bag is big enough to hold the dry bag), maybe turn the slots green or something to indicate which items are stored in the dry bag compartment. Also, a trick we used in the Army was to use a heavy black trash bag inside your ruck to water/dustproof it. Thus, it could rain all it wanted on your ruck, and your clothes and MRE parts and mags and stuff would all stay nice and dry. Further, trash bags can be quickly modified into a makeshift poncho by cutting neck and arm holes out of the bottom. Further still, trash bags can be used to carry water as well, in an emergency situation. Also also, I wonder why the ghillie bush rag doesn't fit over the backpack.... After all, it's supposed to go over the shoulders. There's no reason it can't cover your pack's shoulder straps and top of the pack, aside from a bit of clipping.... But I've noticed a good bunch of items already clip, some hilariously so... And don't even get me started on where your back-slung rifle's magazine or drum is disappearing to.... :P

    Nightshade

I never said I was going to stop suggesting.... Further, I said that if they offered a refund I'd be gone... I don't believe I said I was "leaving and never coming back". I did say that if I had to repurchase the game at 1.0 that I definitely wouldn't, however, and when I was corrected in that the early access = your legit 1.0 access, when that ever comes, I acknowledged it. If you want to complain about that thread, I suggest you do so in that thread... Go cry elsewhere...

    new live for old scopes

Still, NATO forces exist(ed) in Chernarus, meaning there's still a likelihood of AK picatinny mounts... If the FAL has the DSA railed top cover, then there's a total possibility of AK picatinnies...
  13. t3h_kgb

    Zombie type

Well, judging by the wear on the buildings and vehicles, the abandoned nature of the entire game world, and the amount of overgrowth., it sure doesn't feel like Day Zero... More like Day 5400.... :P
  14. I'm betting it's because they don't want people joining empty servers to loot... Thus, if the player cap is raised to 75-100, every last server is going to display a "low" population, and we'll have a harder time figuring out which ones are empty or crawling with b-holes...
  15. t3h_kgb

    Zombie type

But the game is called "DayZ" for a reason.... It's not called "DayIHWAV"..... ;)
  16. t3h_kgb

    new live for old scopes

Side-mount picatinny rails for AKs exist... Plus, NATO forces are (or rather, have been) in Chernarus, as evidenced by the Huey crashes and NATO gear. Thus, saying "but it's not common in East-Bloc forces" isn't exactly a strong argument, especially since the AK101 drops in NATO-heavy areas like the Tisy base. Really, I just want to have a Kashtan or EOtech on the 74u, and YES 74u's were manufactured with the side-mount.

Yep, I sure was... The tab was still open, and after a bit of surfing, I figured I'd stick a suggestion up. Why not?

Hey guys new masks for game would be cool.

What's the point? If you see another player in DayZ, you're probably about to die anyway, why bother trying to look at their mask when you should bother with relocation and engagement...

Dead Military Soldier ( Dynamic Event )

US Army vet here: We carry our dead. NMLB. Also, we police up the weapons and gear so the enemy cannot get their hands on them.... Probably best to just add dead bodies in/around the crash sites, give them loot slots like zombies I suppose... As for the crashed helis, they should REALLY consider retexturing them, since they look like they crashed 30 damn years ago and were abandoned, same with the rest of DayZ... Not really sure how we're supposed to just accept that we're an adult waking up in the middle of nowhere in Chernarus; I have to agree, they should at least attempt to write some lore.... Doesn't even need much, just needs something other than "There's zombies around, go collect survival items"...
  20. It's still very viable to create an IED from an RPG rocket, regardless of arming procedure; most of that can be bypassed... As much as I lament the idea of having players litter the map with IEDs, it would be an idea to create tripwires or IEDs or somesuch from RPGs, grenades, etc. Better yet would be to start with just smoke grenade/flashbang tripwires, as it would be nonlethal, and could warn a player of approaching players... Even better still would be the ability to make ANFO from fertilizer and diesel fuel, and create your own explosive compounds to be used for crafting in-game IEDs, improvised frag devices (i.e. pipe bombs), etc.... Of course, the currently existing gasoline cans mixed with the garden lime would just produce garbage, maybe some noxious fumes (not sure of the chemistry of lime + gasoline, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't make an explosive like ANFO), and you'd need to find the specific AN fertilizer and fuel oil (big fuel oil tanks outside of homes could be accessed for small amounts of FO, and the gas stations can have diesel fuel as well)...

You don't know a goddamned thing about me. :D But, if we're playing the assumption game, I'm betting you're at LEAST 75lbs overweight, you perpetually smell of Cheetos and Mountain Dew, and are the type of pussy to ambush players because you're too scared and weak to do your own looting..... See? I can make baseless accusations and insults too! :D Then I stand corrected, and there is indeed a slight chance I might come back to check out 1.0.... But, it's going to have to be pretty phenomenal in order to get me to play regularly, or even continue playing... We'll see, when (if) we get to 1.0....

    Refund

Leave your silly political ideologies OUT of the discussion. You don't know who I voted for, and you damn well DON'T know my political opinion... The thread was about possible refunds, and you've come here picking my opinion apart trying to make yourself feel better for your own inadequacies... That's the only reason I can see for you to constantly be crying in this thread... What, exactly, is the use of seed packets and books? Sure, you can make some tinder out of the book, but you can make tinder and such from trees too, and they're far more widely available in-game... NEVER will you be in an area in DayZ where you can't get to some wood to build a fire, whereas books are spawning loot, and largely pointless. I don't play videogames to read books; I have plenty of books in the real world I can read, many of them the same (or similar contents) as the ones in-game... Further, I'm not about to sit and wait around for peppers to fucking grow; there's plenty of canned foods, apples, kiwis, etc. all over the map. WHY would I bother digging a garden plot and planting seeds and waiting to harvest them? This isn't Farmville, it's DayZ... Finally, why the FUCK should I worry about trying to hunt down and gather each individual spark plug, wheel, door, fender, seat, radio, auto glass, et. al. to put a car back together, when I can just hold W and sprint key, and get to where I'm going, looting along the way? Sure, it may not be as fast as a car or some such, but hunting down car parts just to hope and pray nobody came along with the right part and stole your car you've been rebuilding (or camping your vehicle waiting to merc your ass because DayZ), just sounds like a massive waste of time to me... Maybe if they implemented dirtbikes and quads that you can hop on and run, or maybe need gas or something, that wouldn't be too bad.... But I'd worry about fall damage; should you end up hitting a tiny rock and getting more than 1/2 inch of air, you're going to most assuredly break both your legs (as again, humans are made of glass in DayZ, and even a fall off a flight of stairs at the third goddamned stair tread will result in a chipped ankle and ruined boots... There's a reason we can't jump in-game; we'd break both our legs jumping straight up on flat ground).... At least the garden lime can be used to tan leathers and stuff, if you go that route, but with animals being somewhat rare (and wolves being something you want to hide and log-out if you encounter them, again because humans are made of glass in this game and even a wolf's howl will make you bleed to death or ruin your gear), it's sort of a waste of time to be fucking around trying to make leather stuff, when the entire point of DayZ is to go to the military bases and loot military items... They were the first ones to pop into my mind, the ones I played the most... Doesn't mean I didn't log plenty of hours on Top Gun or Duck Hunt. Stop being a crybaby just because I dared to speak out against your beloved jogging simulator. Don't you have anything better to do? Like holding W and sprint?

Like I said, if they give early access customers free access to 1.0, I might pop in and check it out a bit, but it's highly unlikely to happen that way...

    Refund

You sure do have a warped view of old games.... Magazines were indeed the go-to for videogame news prior to the internet... But I wasn't a fool, I wasn't about to rush out and get the latest shit game because a magazine said I should buy it... Plus, my family was poor, so we didn't have the money to waste on shitty videogames back then (when new games were as expensive, if not more, than games today, but without all the inflation we've had over the past thirty years, so really like 3-4x the felt cost)... Part of the reason I loved Final Fantasy so much; it was a HUGE game, for the day, with DAYS of gameplay! Thus, I let my friends buy the new games first, and I'd buy my own copy later if I wanted... Or, like I said, I'd rent games from the video store, play them, and maybe buy them later if they were worth buying. Maybe you didn't have friends that played videogames like I did, or a video rental store a few blocks down the street or an arcade in your area, but I sure did... Plus, games CAN be replayed, you know that, right? I can't tell you how many times I played through Lemmings, Wolf 3D, the Commander Keen series, the Megaman games, etc. etc. etc... Also, Mario games were hours upon hours of fun, beating them a multitude of different ways, then beating the second playthrough mode, going for score or coin count versus a friend, etc.! And speaking of which, there was plenty of 2-player kickassery back then... Battletoads, Bad Dudes, tank games, top-scrollers, Galaga, Contra, the Ninja Turtles Manhattan Project (I think it was called) game, Mortal Kombat, etc. etc. etc... Maybe you just got unlucky and bought all the bad games, but I had really good games and played them constantly... I was the first kid on my block to get wrist inflammation from the NES controller! And I won't even get into how many hours I logged on Goldeneye 64, or Quake II, or Unreal Tournament GOTY.... But, those were post-Internet... Also post-internet I really got into modding (after learning you can take game software and crack it open and edit it to be way cooler than the original, etc. and found people who knew how to do just that and were willing to teach)... Made mods for just about any game I could, from KOTOR to GTA, edited Rainbow Six, the first expansion that I forget the name of atm, and Rogue Spear, cracked all the STALKER games (of course, AFTER beating them proper, because it's not the same when you mod your way to victory), used to make trucks and tracks for Monster Truck Madness 2 and 4x4 Evo, back when we had garbage for modding tools... Anyways, modding was one way to greatly extend the game's replayability... I can't even begin to tell you how many hours I've spent on San Andreas... Mainly because my first few copies didn't come from Steam.... I spent YEARS modding that game, though! Ain't nothing like driving your own pickup through San Andreas.... Until you take that body and put it on a monster truck frame, and make it damage-proof and bulletproof and go on a car crushing spree down the not-exactly-Vegas strip!! Oh, also, in the interest of full disclosure, I did indeed speedhack/wallhack/godhack a little bit in my infancy, in the Rainbow Six days, but I found it no fun, and haven't since... It's just not for me, I'd rather win or lose proper. Plus, you most likely get banned when you do, and that's never fun... There were TONS of games that had far less than 20hrs of gameplay to them.... But that doesn't mean you couldn't log 20hrs playing them, especially if they were GOOD games, and you had good friends to play them with... About the "bizarre need to get your money's worth out of them," that's actually why I kept playing DayZ after passing 2hrs.... I still haven't felt $35 worth of enjoyment from it, though I did see a zombie spawn on the roof of a building at the Tisy base, that was pretty good.... Just sat there and flipped him off for a while, until he magically descended the invisible loading ramp after me... But I didn't pay 35 bucks just for that.... Other than that, ALL other players have at least tried to kill me, most have been successful because most are little bitches and hide in corners waiting for players to merc... One tried to rob me my first day playing.... Second day playing some dude tried to kill me with a shovel for literally no reason other than to kill me.... Funnily enough, I killed him with a pipe wrench (or maybe machete, not sure at the moment) before he could beat me to death with the shovel. The shovel guy was when I decided to start playing lowest-population servers only, though thanks to the devs dumbing down the server list interface, it's hard to find actually empty servers, and instead I just get shot in the back all the damned time.... But, if I wanted to be constantly attacked, I'd go find a Vegans Only message board or something.... Or just get on 4chan and post that I believe in God and wait for all the autistic atheists to come ranting and raving and foaming at the mouth about muh spaghetti monster.... They certainly wouldn't cost me $35. But no, I played and replayed my old games because that's what we had, and we played them because we loved them!

    Refund

Honestly, I think the others dragged it out of me moreso... I know I can't get a refund anymore. I'd like to, but I can't. The main point behind the entire thread was thus anyways, but the loyal followers just couldn't see that not everything is roses in DayZ. Some points may have been stressed to exaggeration. Still, I stand by my posts and what I've said... I understand poor communication, I've watched projects go up in smoke over it... Great projects went down in flames because nobody could figure out what the fuck was going on... If communication is an issue, then I suggest Bohemia restructure its leadership at the DayZ wing, because it very well could cost them the project, especially this late in the game... I've read about where it's heading... I've read about benchmarks from years ago that have yet to be met... I've read about the history of the development... Sure, there's a whole lot more stuff in DayZ than there was four years ago, but there's still a lot of broken things that seem to be not addressed at all, and instead just sort of buried under all the useless stuff like books and seed packets and drivable vehicles.... Boom. You just proved my point from my very first (and second) post(s) in the thread. How do you know I enjoyed it? Further, how much time did I say I have spent on DayZ? Because I specifically made it a point to NOT answer that question, if you recall.... In fact, I'll even pull out the quote for you below, because you've proven my point oh so perfectly: Funny how the handful of devotees rush to start bailing water, even though they know they're going down.... Me, I done already grabbed a life jacket and made it to shore already... Would be nice if I could recoup the costs... But it's whatever at this point... Still, I agree with the OP... It's not that I need the money... It's that I would gladly take the refund if offered.... That was, in fact, the original point of the thread, after all..... As for years gone by, I didn't just buy games willie-nillie, and I never did read reviews.... I always either let my friends be the ones to buy games on release and then find out they sucked, or I'd rent them first... Unfortunately, rental has gone by the wayside, and I can't have a DayZ weekend rental (that actually would be REALLY helpful for people who want to try it, but are unsure if they want to part with 30 whole dollars). Had I been able to spend two dollars to rent DayZ for a weekend, I know I wouldn't have paid for the early access... Though, that may very well be a good thing for Bohemia. Also, I've gotten far more than 20 hours out of most of the games I own, even the ones with little to no replayability... In fact, DayZ is the first game I actually genuinely feel "burned" on... Like I said, I won't be... I was already burned by Bohemia once, why the hell would I let them burn me twice? Like I said, on the highly unlikely chance they give early access players a copy of 1.0 for free, I might come back and sniff around a little bit... But since there's no chance of that, I won't be... There's a good chance it'll never get finished anyway. It's already an old game, long gone from the pages of the magazines and the minds of the consumers, and worse, has disgruntled many players in the process. At this point, it would be difficult to sell 1.0, and after four more years of development, it will be all but impossible... The marketing math just doesn't add up, and it will continue to get worse as DayZ ages. Maybe people will get it in a $3.99 Bohemia bundle with all the Arma's... But DayZ as a standalone product will be difficult to sell in the future, made all the more difficult as time passes... I have to admit, though, you guys have me laughing at these... X)
