Use the razor as a special weapon which allows you to silently kill a target from behind by slicing its throat open. It would kill animals instantly on use and would kill a human instantly providing you can get close enough to perform the action As for toilet paper you could use it as an improvised fire lighting material or as extra padding in cold environments (for as long as you and it is not WET!)

Snowy areas and maybe snowmobiles.
Draco122 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As an extra trait of snowmobiles, it should be possible to skim them across small bodies of water when at top speed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowmobile_skipping -
I agree with this, I think worn backpacks would be a good idea. I think the differences should be that a worn backpack has a chance to loose items but repairing it sacrifices some of the space to ensure no items are lost while in carrying it In terms of civilian versus military, Civilian backpacks should be less durable and cost the wearer more stamina. Why is this? Some military backpacks carry lightweight aluminium frames which evenly spreads the weight allowing the person to travel further without rest, this is especially true with backpacks such as the ALICE pack which often is seen with a lightweight steel frame. I think you should also be able to improvise backpacks, using old clothes, twine and duct tape. Maybe even able to construct a frame for a backpack which would lessen the amount of fatigue one gets by constructing it out of wood and string.

In my opinion I think the CZ-75 should be added, but not as the full auto variant and should not replace the M9. It should do the same damage as the other 9mm handguns but be found within residental spawn zones at a lower chance than the Makarov. It should be placed alongside the idea that the former chernarussion police force used it as their standard handgun which replaced the ageing makarovs that were previously used. As for the Vz.61 Skorpion, I'd say add that too but bump the damage equal to the Makarov or other 9mm weapons and add them to Residental Spawns as an extremely rare drop or in military zones at a common drop. Like above, I'd imagine the Czech Police would also use it as a sidearm or machine pistol. The PDW should remain but just rename it to Micro Uzi, I'm all for adding the full size one too for an additional SMG besides the Mp5 and Bizon. Perhaps add a Suppressed version also to compete with the MP5 SD

While I agree with no more hosipitals I think we should have more medical clinics and small buildings that once housed a doctor of some kind. Chernarus has many areas which are fairly remote and I doubt an ambulance would be able to quickly get to one of these villages quickly, so how about having some areas that were perhaps a small doctors clinic, vet or dentist. These places could provide a place to find medical loot besides hosipitals, just lower in number and types of loot found (No morphines or epi-pens but bandages, painkillers and a rare chance of anti-biotics) I'd like to see maybe one or two plane crashes that seem fairly old though, I remember seeing a screenshot where a plane had crashed into a diner and it looked fairly old and decrepid, it also adds more to the feel that there was a zombie apocalypse at some point. Maybe have that as well as perhaps an old rusted out world war 2 fighter or bomber that can be found somewhere in chernarus's giant woods and forests

One thing I will say, we don't know the full extent of what kind of shotguns are going to be in Standalone, for all intents and purposes we may see new variants introduced besides those introduced in the mod. I for one support Sawn Off Shotguns, of course I believe they should function mostly with "Civilian" varieties, some examples include: Sawn Off Over & Under, same concept as a Sawn Off Side by Side, just different appearance Sawn Off Remington 870 Express, a civilian hunting shotgun, normally limited to 4-5 rounds, just simply cut the barrel down a bit more and remove the stock, there you go one sawn off Same concept as above, yet with a Semi-auto shotgun, often the same with just 4-5 rounds
-
And as shown in the video, really only worth while with breech loading shotguns ie the double barrel. Would give another good reason for using the Double barrel. I feel it's a great idea, fits well within the crafting mechanic of the standalone, and if people have the time and resource I don't think they'd hesitate to make something more deadly if it kills quicker than the bog standard. Positives remain in higher damage output by modifying conventional target and small game hunting loads for shotguns ie birdshot. The negatives of course is severe lack of range and little effect to modern body armor (they were shooting a target at 25 yards), as well limiting its overall effectiveness when used with repeating firearms such as pump actions or semi-autos, leaving double barrel and other breech loaders the main weapons it can be used with. Modifying ammunition to suit a purpose in a dire situation or to offer high probability of a kill is not as "silly" as you think. Gangs in LA have frequently made "Dum-Dum" bullets to better kill targets and victims, as well as gaining an infamous reputation as "Cop killer ammo". The British even had the term dum-dum refer to modified .303 British ammo for use in India, before the hague convention and even more so the term was later expanded to the expanding bullet aka, Hollow Point or Soft Point. I could see modified ammo being used when more conventional ammunition which provides far better results are just not available or extremely rare. Here's some examples: http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot32.htm (Box o truth on Dum-Dum bullets) (a youtube playlist where a guy shows off a variety of home-made or improvised shotgun shells, you'd be amazed just how much damage some of these things can do)I wouldn't rule out modified bullets entirely, Rocket has mentioned in interviews, if people know how to do it and it's capable in the crafting system, they should be able to make modified rounds.

A cool crafting element with this idea in mind, Hobo Fishing. Simply combine an empty tin can with a roll of fishing line with a pin to one end to act as a hook. Futher more combine it together with an old metal strip of a soda can to make a nice looking lure. There you go, a portable handy fishing tool, great for ponds, lakes or rivers.

I think its a sound idea, but I think animals should have a lower detection chance from Zeds.Larger slower animals such as Cows, Sheeps, Goats and Pigs/Boars should be fairly obivious to spot from Zombies (say between a hearing range of 20m and a Sight range of 50-60m) and I don't think they should attract a massive horde, a few zombies initially for example. Smaller animals attract even less Zeds, Dogs, Rabbits and Chickens for example sometimes only attract 1 or 2 if they come within close proximity, (5m hearing range and 10m sight range). Zeds should also "taint" the meat once they've killed it, given players a chance to pickup tainted meat which offers a high chance of infection and half the original blood restored when cooked. But eaten raw offers instant infection and no blood restoration.

What about improvised trains? I remember watching Land of the Dead and remember seeing as how some survivors used an Old Pickup truck running on the rims to go back and forth on an underground subway system using the rails there. Would that technically be possible? Somehow manange to get a pickup truck to run on the railway tracks? Alternatively, there do exist some trucks that are modified for railway mainteniance use, such as this one here: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8144/7526996760_3bbdc01318_z.jpg

Melee Weapons Ideas (Megathread) Post your ideas
Draco122 replied to Robert Shannon's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Instead of a Katana, I'd go for a rusty medieval sword that someone dug up around one of the old castles of Chernarus. It would deal high damage, lead to possible infection (Tetanus is a bitch) but break after a few uses because its so worn. I'd also remove the trench knife and perhaps add in an old style bayonet knife, something you'd normally find on an old rifle like the Lee Enfield, longer than a traditional bayonet but overall a bit more awkward to use (due to its longer than average length). As for other weapons, alot has already been said. Some I'd like to see are: Pipe Wrench, Ice Axe Crutch Different styles of knives (ranging from a Fillet Knife, different styles of Combat Knives and Bayonets, folding knives, hunting knives, survival knives) Fire Poker Length of 2x4 Timber Varying lengths and types of metal piping (from rusty, copper, aluminium, iron, steel and lead) Improvised Spear (something akin to a knife affixed to a wooden or steel pole) Cattle Prod (Uses batteries, does no damage but induces a state of shock and stuns oppenants briefly) Bolt Gun (Not a "gun" per say, its used to humanly stun animals prior to slaughter such as this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/99/Schlachtschussapparat_%28modified%29.jpg must be extremely close to use or could be used to silent kill animals from a goat and larger) Pickaxe Brass Knuckles (Found in Pubs) Pool Cue Wooden Cane Broken Table Leg Baton (Something akin to a police baton) Meat Cleaver Torch (As in a Stick with a fuel soaked rag, can provide a light source and also set enemies on fire when struck with it) Flashlight (Maglite Flashlights can be used as a crude club or baton) Broken Rifle (A long rifle that is broken, could be used as a low damaging clubbing weapon) Rusty Medieval Sword Sledge Hammer Claw Hammer Club/Heavy Hammer Bone (A human Femur can be used as an effective club weapon or a cow femur which is even larger can be used) -
And yet the L85A2 a common british assault rifle is found at Helicopter crash sites...

In terms of pistols in DayZ the bullet damage while weak seems to do the exact same damage regardless of distance with the correct adjustments to account for bullet drop and spread. It also sometimes doesn't take additional factors such as the clothes or equipment a person is wearing or the ammunition quality the weapon is firing. I've heard the Makarov's 9x18mm PM round (the original 9x18 Mak) has similar performance to a .380 ACP. From what I've seen, hearded, read and so on so forth, most pistol rounds are effective at 10-20 yards at most (9-18 metres) but loose significant energy over range. Now while I agree for the purpose of authenticity that damage should be as a realistic as possible, I believe the developers are largely going for balanced over realism. However, I believe they are pushing it as close as possible to the realism mark. IN MY OPINION damage should be based on a minimum and maximum damage at range with weapon groups such as pistols, shotguns and sub-machine guns having this effect most of all, while Rifles and Machine guns suffer very little in damage loss at long range. Smaller factors can be applied alterting these effects negatively or postively with such things as ammo quality, weapon used, clothing/equipment such as body armor, fully-loaded backpacks (with food, gear and/orweapons) or equipment on the person (such as a pistol round striking a weapons magazine) on the person and distance the target is located.
-
Way I see it, some people have said that the TT-33, 7,62x25mm TT cartridge can penetrate light body armor. So in-game terms, I think it shold be the same damage as a .9mm but ignore the factors of when a player is wearing light body armor giving it a unique trait among similar pistols of its damage level

Weapon skins/attachments - encourage looting
Draco122 replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think DayZ should steer clear of the call of duty esque custom camos and stick with standard ones that would be more useful. I could see gold weapons being an extremely rare easter egg weapon sure, but it would have to be extremely rare. 0.001% chance of it spawning rare found in the most unlikely of places or the hardest to reach, so only those who put effort into finding it will succeed. As for camo's in general I think there should be two main "groups", factory camo's and improvised camo's. Factory camo's should be there when you find them, a mix of types from Desert Camo to Woodland, just your standard mix. As for impovised, it says it on the tin. There are numerous ways to do it, varies pieces of white and black tape can make an interesting snow camo, you can get camo tape. Could even make an anti-glare for sniper scopes by putting a little tape over the lens, leaving a hole or small slit for viewing. Improvised camo's and decorations should be the large part of customising ones weapons to suit themselves, even if they were to carve their name in the wooden stock of an AKM. As for attachments in general, I support the idea of taking off attachments from one weapon and adding them to another. Perhaps there could also be a chance of jury rigging an attachment to something its not made for. Like for example, taking a scope from a CZ-550 and attaching it to a Lee-Enfield or perhaps sawing off the stock and barrel of a double barrel to create a shorter more compact weapon to stow in a backpack -
Four ideas I thought about, for DayZ Mod and Standalone. Safety Deposit Box One of the things alot of people want is safe protection of their loot. Tents are only a means of storage but there not exactly a safe way to store loot reliably without it being discovered and stolen or simply destroyed. The idea I propose is the use of a safety deposit box which can be found in world as an item similar to Camping tents. The difference from a camping tent to a Safety deposit box is that three of said boxes can be carried around on the person, can only be opened via a key (which comes with said box) or a special specific means such as tool which can aid in said operation. They can also act as very small tents, allowing players to set up stashes in buildings. They come in four different sizes, each with a different capacity and number of spaces they take up in a players inventory. Small - Small deposit box, takes up 3 slots in the Inventory and has 6 capacity slots (enough for a pistol and a magazine or some navigation equipment) Medium - Medium Deposit Box, takes up 5 Slots in the Inventory and has 8 capacity slots Large - Large Deposit Box, takes up 10 slots in the inventory and has a capacity of 16 slots. Extra Large - Takes up 6 slots but is a unique deposit box as it must be constructed in-world like a tent but can store upto 30 slots and can be placed inside buildings. The extra large is important, because its essientially a much sturdier and much more difficult storage box to break into as well as being able to construct it inside a building, offering slightly more security. Now if you die in possession of a smaller box it can be looted, but that person won't be able to break into it unless he has a specific means to, those means I'll get into below. Keys for said boxes can also be stored, they would be carried in the toolbelt and can be stashed away for later use in another stash. If notes and journals are added to Standalone, it could give players a unique quest to find whoevers stash they just come across. Crowbar Usuage One such thing people have said is how useless the Crowbar is as a weapon and wanted to see it used more as a tool, as it's been suggested plenty of times before as a means to break into objects, perhaps the idea above of a Safety Deposit box helps with enforcing this idea. Basically put, Crowbars can be used to break into a locked safety deposit box of any size. Deposit boxes such as Small, Medium and Large which can be carried on the person will be destroyed once broken into, as the crowbar would destroy the locking mechanism, making them useless. The loot contents will immediatly be dropped onto the ground for those to pillage and take it. An extra large box would simply function as a storage chest similar to a tent after its been broken into. Its not an easy process either, as it takes a little while to unlock each size of box, the smaller it is the easier it is to break into with a crowbar, but the larger it is the harder it becomes. I suppose it would depend on a percentage chance of reliably breaking into it. Supply Drops Again suggested before but as I've seen this marked as "Care Packages" on private hives the problem with alot of them is that some of the more "military loot" is highly available without any need to have anything in hand. Have supply drops similar to chopper crashes with a unique twist, the idea above of a crowbar breaking into things, the Crowbar should be used on contents that are Military in nature while civilian food and medical supplies are freely accessed. Supply drops should be slightly more common than Chopper crashes and shouldn't always been easy to get to, for example they could have been dropped on a roof, in a forest (stuck in a tree where the tree or drop must be shot down) or in a pond where the player must swim out to grab said gear. Military supply drops should host medium level gear, medium level weapons (M16, AK-74, R870), ammunition and grenades nothing too majorly higher, still making chopper crashes the ideal place for high tier loot.

Safety Deposit Box, Supply Drops and Crowbar Idea
Draco122 replied to Draco122's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Your logic is flawed, if you read the first post you'd see that there not "unlootable". They all require a key to open or can be opened with a crowbar for which you can take said contents but first you must find said crowbar or that key. And where do you find that key, on your corpse where you last died. Do you honestly think the Key is gonna be teleported to once you spawn back in? It's not gonna defeat the purpose of looting, they can't hold much anyway, its enough to hold some basic supplies and THATS it. The box is nothing more than a tent which sacrifices space for security. It would be rarer than a tent and unless you specifically wrote down co-ordinates without a map, compass or even a GPS good luck trying to find it in Chernarus unless you placed it in a really obivious spot, which by the time you get to it, is probably already looted. It would still be difficult to reclaim the loot from the box itself, you'd still need a key to unlock the storage box and wheres that key? On your corpse when you last died which has probably been looted which means the only way unlock it, is to destroy it with a crowbar. Even then once you destroy it with a crowbar you not gonna be able to use it again, your gonna have to find another box to replace the one you just whacked open and there NOT that common, they'd be rarer than camping tents, and that depends on whether you find a crowbar or not and your not gonna be able to hold much inside said box anyway. It would also make the crowbar a somewhat useful tool now instead of being a rather weak weapon. Plus unless you place it in a really hidden spot, it's gonna be WAY out of the way of any spawn spoint and not completely defeat the purpose of looting. Add some common sense to your post perhaps -
Hello all I'm looking to write up some articles on DayZ Wiki and DayZ DB on some of the weapons which are custom on some unofficial custom maps. Now I know there's two currently which I know have custom weapons. Those being Namalsk and the newest map O'Ring. Question is, its hard to pin-point whether these are actually ON the map or whether they are apart of a private hive. My research indicates that some custom weapons do exist on these maps, but I'm just not sure. If anyone can share some light on this and perhaps any infomation about "official" weapons in other maps it would be greatly apprieciated.
-
In that case the only weapons I need to add to DayZ DB are those that are on O'Ring which include the following: P88 Pistol SIG P226 PM63 MP5A3SD SKS MG1 G3 FW Steiner (Don't know what this is, rifle or a shotgun but is found in supermarkets)
-
Just something I was curious about, while the topic of military vehicles in DayZ makes some people frown with disgust I was curious if its possible and would be enjoyable to have something akin to an old fighter plane. Something from say World War 2. Some examples I can think of would be something similar to a russian Yak, British Spitfire or Hurricane or German Mischatsmit. Whether they'd still have functioning Machine guns or simply be used as air transport and something fun to mess with. Some picture based examples: Russian Yakalev Yak-9 British Spitfire Yugoslavian Air force Hawker Hurricane German Nazi Messerschmitt Bf 109

Safety Deposit Box, Supply Drops and Crowbar Idea
Draco122 replied to Draco122's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't really agree with you though, because if they were larger you wouldn't even be able to put them in your main inventory, some items such as Camping Tents can't just be put into your backpack sometimes, you need space in your main inventory in order to pick it up. If they were larger than what they provided you wouldn't even be able to pick up. Technically speaking those were just examples I listed above, Rethinking of it, I suppose the two smaller boxes, Small and Medium should have been smaller or equal to one another, say 2 or 3 slots, the same as a Camping tent. This is what I had in mind for the Small and Medium sized deposit box: For small, it's enough to store a Handgun (at 5 slots) and a single magazine or six one slot items. Where's Medium would be somewhere slightly bigger than this able to fit more (8 Slots, the same as a Coyote Patrol pack). For the large box its the largest "portable" box available, I'd say it should take up 6 slots in your inventory the same as an Engine block. It gives the same size as a medium level backpack (Alice, Survival ACU) useful for a rifle and some magazines or a bunch of medical loot but it does take up a significant portion of your inventory space in the backpack and main inventory. For the Extra Large I actually thought this through and I think it would be better staying at 3 slots in a dismantled form, it's like a tent or a construction item. You'd need a toolbox to build it and once built, it's static like a tent (it can also be dismantled but loosing any loot thats still inside). It trades the storage space of a tent for more security and somewhat easier to spot. -
Most from my knowledge are decommissioned but are sold as civilian planes with the guns removed and most military markings removed, I still think its a fun idea though to discover an old unarmed fighter plane. It'd be a bonus if it was still armed of course. I just don't think there are enough single seater aircraft

Disadvantages To Carrying/Using AS50/M107
Draco122 replied to Dark Terror's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I believe there were, conflicting against the normal ones I'm still for my bipod idea or at least forcing these snipers to go prone with a devasting recoil effect that causes a slight pain effect. Also I don't think these weapons should be able to be stored inside a backpack at all, the alternative of course is to dismantle the weapon into parts to store it -
To add onto that if the game/mod was going for a realistic approach, wouldn't 5,56 SD ammo be useless or to the point where only a headshot would suffice due to the lower power of the round and be extremely difficult to score reliable hits over range? And wouldn't 5,45 fired from the AK-74 do equal or more damage than the 5,56? Looking at the DayZ wiki it says 5,45 does 2722. Yet reports indicate that the 5,45 fired from an AK-74 does almost equal damage to the M16 Also I think most people are forgetting that sometimes its safer to put more rounds downrange because of technical issues such as bad connection or lagg

I think its a larger sized fishing vessel and no it can't be entered or boarded, I presume your thinking of that wreck on the coast a few minutes run over from willow lake just north of Berezino. And besides having a "single" ship, I'd love something akin to Ship graveyards, a mis-match of various vessels so far out of the way as some sort of vain attempt by the islands populace to flee the infection but were stopped by the Military and/or sunk for trying to break qaurantine. But I think if this was implemented, only a few should be able to be boarded. Maybe even a half-sunken aircraft carrier or destroyer, one that can be entered but the other half is half submerged under water.
