    Peek Feature

This I can agree with more so in a sense of looting things in buildings and checking the tops of cabinets and tall shelves which unless your in regular modes it's nigh impossible to see whats ontop of a shelf in hardcore. Have beans!

Base Building - What would you like to see?

The way I look at base building is that it would come primarily in reinforcing existing buildings. Reinforcing is a term applied to players reinforcing an existing building with additional materials. The primary benefit of this would be that anybody could choose a building they wish to reinforce, however the larger the building, the larger the extent of supplies needed to reinforce that particular building. Reinforcing would focus on applying barricades and shields to doors and windows, adding external defenses (barbed wire or wooden spiked fences) . Additional positives include: Positive Sturdy and strong, able to withstand more punishment from attacks and not always easy to break intoInterior objects could become useful additions that would not necessarily require any additional crafting elements (such as a fireplace, storage areas, work benches etc)Better protection from the elementsBetter defensive location Negative Fixed in place, compared to some craft able base's these cannot be movedEasily found, a reinforced existing building will often stick out of place amongst othersResource intensive, Reinforcing a building may take more resources than what a hand crafted base hasMay attract more attention, reinforcing a building in a center of a city or a small town may attract more attention from Zombies (and inversely other players)

    Water from rain

The way I see it, some containers could become extremely useful water gatherers. We always see those static steel buckets in world, why not pick one up and stash it away to use for collecting large amounts of water. For example: Empty Soda Can's and Empty Tin Cans recover 15-25% water, enough to fill a 1/4 of a water bottle or canteenAn empty water bottle cut with a hacksaw or knife recovers 30-50% water enough to fill a water bottle to 75% or a canteen to 50%, however it renders the plastic bottle of water useless for storing liquids (only worth it if you have two or three bottles)An empty steel bucket which can be placed on a ground, wait a little bit will recover anywhere from 75-100% water, enough to fill two bottles of water to 100% or 1 and half canteens.

    Flare Guns & Riot Launchers

Something I think feels amiss is Flare Guns in DayZ. Say for example you come across the lone ship wreck in the North East or have been skulking around for loot in one of the coastal towns/cities and you happen to stumble upon a flare gun. It would be common in a sense that it would be an ideal location to find one. So... How would a Flare Gun work in-game? Well their primary use would be for night time, fire a flare into the air and let a red/white flare slowly drop to the ground until it extinguishes itself. It would be an alternate method for lighting up an area for a brief time. It could also function as a poor mans pistol and could possibly inflict a new damage type "burn" damage on hit. It certainly wouldn't kill on one hit but it would certainly mess up whoever got hit with it. Plus seeing a bright red or white object flying at high speed at them at night might make it difficult to see the shooter. Two examples of Flare Guns I could see in DayZ: First up, the Orion Flare Gun, pretty common worldwide and while usually available in 12 Gauge Flares some models come with the larger 25mm flares which are brighter, last longer and are typically more powerful. Could be found most commonly in Fire Stations, Industrial Buildings and sometimes rarely Residental. Second up, is the H&K P2A1, while not as common as the Orion, it is certainly is used more by Military outfits. Something akin to a Military Issue flare gun. Fires 26.5mm Flares but some models do come in 25mm calibers. More of a Military spawn type flare gun, perhaps more common. Lastly, something I thought would be an ideal weapon for Police Stations and could also function in with the Flare Guns, is the idea around a police issue riot launcher. Take this weapon for example, the RGS-50M. It can fire a variety of different rounds from less-lethal rubber slugs and buckshot, smoke, Tear-Gas, Flares and even FRAG grenades. The Rubber Slug and Buckshot rounds should inflict purely knockdown and knockout effects when used, smoke and tear gas should inflict a blurring effect (of which tear gas is the longest to recover from), Flares do much in the same way than those of Flare Guns but have an extremely bright white flare, Frags should be extremely rare for their intense power they hold. In my opinion, the RGS-50M should be an extremely rare drop in Fire Stations and Military locations.

    Add .38 Special to Standalone

Just had a thought, if the .357 Magnum currently the Colt Python exists in-game could there be a possibility of .38 Special being added in as an alternative, albiet weaker ammo type for the Revolver. From my knowledge, most .357 Revolvers can fire both .357 Magnum and .38 Special with .38 Special's normally having less recoil and damage to the gun at the expense of overall damage.

    M1 Carbine?

The Colt Python might of been one of the most popular double-action revolvers in the time period of their production line. Colt ended production of the Python in 1996 and even then Colt Custom gunworks stopped the custom making of the Python in 2005. DayZ as far as I can tell, is loosely based in the year 2012. However, while I share your opinion, I would want to see an M1 Carbine in DayZ but not on Chernarus, when ever the time really comes that custom maps exist for DayZ is the time when I'd like to see a map, that has some liability to hold american made weapons. So while I don't find the Colt Python to fit in with the setting of Chernarus, I can deduct that the choice was because it was a developer favourite. Additionally the FNX45 which also doesn't really fit in with the whole post Soviet Union theme, was also released in October 2012 which would make this pistol EXTREMELY RARE, possibly only used by Special Forces Operators if it follows the DayZ timeline, if there is one. Overall I can expect the Dev's to release a number of weapons based largely on the faction they belong to, for example the M4 could have been apart of some US Marines acting as help for a nation in trouble as a means of humantarian aid. Further enforcing this idea is finding a number of unique items such as the UK Assault Vest Possible theory's could be: Chernorussian Civilian PopulaceCriminal ElementsChernorussian PoliceRussian ArmyNATO Peacekeepers/Humantarian AidUS MarinesUS Special ForcesUK Armed ForcesUK Special ForcesPrivate Contracters/MercenariesTerrorist/Rebellious Factions

    M1 Carbine?

The SKS is gonna be added from what I can tell in the next patch update, it fits more in theme and I'd rather not have too many automatic rifles otherwise it's just gonna turn into a slaughter fest

    Dancing

This is more of a flavour suggestion towards a possible animation involving your character dancing. What purpose does this serve? Nothing. Apart from overall amusement of watching someone Dance over a campfire with chemlights or forcing your captured hostage to Dance for the bandits amusement. It's also just to add some humour to otherwise serious game.

    Torches

Yes I need my Flares and Chemlights so I may have the Standalone Beach Rave while blaring Dubstep through my microphone.

    Military Relief Drops

I don't think ANY firearms should exist at all in these Relief Drops, if anything these Drops should provide Food, Medicine and Utility Items instead. For Food it should concerntrate on using Military Rations (all of which have long service lives) and Water CanteensMedical Supplies should focus on First Aid Kits, Blood Transfusion kits, Saline Kits and Military Issue Field DressingsUtility Items should focus primarily on various tools and equipment (these Small Weapons for example that the OP suggested) could be just tools like Crowbars, Shovels, Pipe Wrenches and other "Improvised" melee weapons. In addition, I believe some of these Airdropped Supply Caches should be locked, unlocked and damaged. Locked Variants have what ever is inside them at a good or pristine condition but require a crowbar to break openUnlocked Variants have what ever is inside of them at a worn or badly damaged condition with a rare chance for an item in good condition or pristine.Damaged Variants should have what ever is inside them at a Badly damaged or Ruined State, sometimes even have loot spawn around the site of the Damaged container

    Crafting Weapons

Lets keep some of the suggestions to a realistic level. Some of my "limited use" improvised weapons. Nail Bat - A baseball bat with nails on one end Spear - Combine Sticks with a Kitchen Knife or a ScrewDriver to make an improvised spear Aerosol Flamethrower - Combine a Spraycan with a Lighter/Flare to make an improvised Flamethrower Gas Bomb - Combine a flare with a Gas Canister using a small explosive such as a firecracker as the ignition Tin Grenade - A empty tin can filled with gun powder, made by using several shotgun shells and using string as a wick
  14. My only complaint is if they actually made the M4, an M4. To reiterate, the M4 is the burst firing version which has semi-automatic single fire and automatic 3x round burst. The version featured in-game is more akin to the M4A1 having semi-automatic single fire and fully automatic rapid fire. It's a small detail yes but regardless, I'd certainly think it would balance it out a bit, especially once the AK-74 is added.

    Booze

Way I see it, Booze as a whole has a unique aspect to this game and when properly implemented I can see it doing great things for both immersion and utility. For example: Beers, Ales and Ciders being of a relatively low alcohol content could provide a flavour aspect and immersion in-game, a beer could "calm the nerves of a mild shock" or be used to treat pain in large doses. Spirits and high alcoholic beverages could be used for many things, besides numbing pain they can be used as a crude disinfectant, a compenant for weapon crafting (fire bombs) and even as possible fuel for vehicles (yes some cars will run on high proof alcohol). Wines could even be potentially added as a cooking ingredient for various meals once cooking is implemented, add a fine red wine to a stew to create excellant flavour and boost it's nutrional value

    More Zombie Types

Generally the only "Special" zombies that should exist are those that warrant the title of "Special". I had a few ideas for "Special" zombies. For example: Corpse/Carrier - A Zombie who's so decrepid and decaying, covered in filth and rith with disease, similar to the Viral Zombies of the Mod, higher chance of infections apon hit. Soldier/SWAT - While Soldier Zombies are indeed added at the moment, they are basically cosmetic differences. I believe that these Zombies should be sturdier against Melee attacks. Backpacker - A Zombie who carries a backpack, the supplies are almost always in a badly damaged state and they purely basic stuff. Fat - Just a really fat but slow zombie, takes some punishment from melee weapons and even firearms without a headshot Child - A child Zombie, smaller in frame so harder to spot, slightly faster than average infected but weaker as a result. Hopper - A Zombie that crawls around on all fours, often "hopping" in it's idle state Crawler - A Zombie who's lost the use of its legs, crawling wherever it goes
  17. So I'm just curious so I'll post this question here In-game recently I managed to craft an improvised courier bag using a burlap sack and some rope which created a small bag with 12 slots but all information I've found relating to the Improvised backpack state it needs "Sticks+Burlap Sack+Rope" in order to make a backpack with 20 slots. So this got me thinking, is this the only variant in game or could you improve the carrying capacity of an improvised backpack by simply adding things in the creation process? Anyone willing to test this out? It would be nice to share to the mass and update otherwise incorrect or outdated information

    Improvised Weapons/Items Thread

Just starting this up to get ideas for recipes and possible ideas for future Improvised Weapons and items. Just some examples from my own: Improvised Weapons Improvised Knuckle Duster Tin Grenade Improvised Flamethrower Improvised Items Improvised Oil Lamp Improvised Alcohol Stove I'll update the main post with more items that people suggest, remember, make sure to add the recipe to your chosen weapon or item

    Shotgun Birdshot Ammo

Just a suggestion towards the Shotguns ammo types, as well as Buckshot and Slugs, I believe there should also be Birdshot ammunition. It's weaker than Buckshot but has more of a spread (because of the greater number of pellets) and so would be more useful against smaller wild animals as well as perhaps a more common alternative to buckshot and slugs.

    Mosin Variants

Just had a thought, currently there exists only the most common Mosin Nagant, the M91/30. However I got to thinking, what about having other variants of the same weapon? Surely some other variants of the same weapon are just as common the original? First up is the M59 Carbine, a carbine version of the M91/30 A size comparison, between the M59 and M91/30, M91/30 is at the top with the M59 at the bottom And Second is the Obrez, a sawn off version of the M91/30
  21. Draco122

    Mosin Variants

The way I see it, the standard Mosin M91/30 we have currently is loooong when slung on a players back (and with a bayonet it looks like you have a radio antennae sticking out of your back). It defiantly makes it easy to identify by people even at range. It benefits most from long range but is poor in closer engagements. A carbine variant, such as the M59 I posted above or one of the earlier Carbines like the M44 or M38 (of which the M44 had a permanent side folding spike bayonet) with it's smaller profile and better use at close ranges could make it ideal for someone who doesn't want others to know what he's carrying from far off. Additionally the Obrez could function as a form of advanced crafting and would function as a very powerful "pistol" class weapon that takes the 7,62x54mmR rounds, it would have poor range, high recoil and be extremely loud, not to mention not being able to attach anything to it.

Duct Tape Mouth + Rope Tying

A possible use I imagined for Duct Tape is being able to tape up a handcuffed victims mouth preventing them from talking. While a victim has his/her mouth taped up, direct communication is disabled. This could prevent a potential capturee from saying anything you don't like and just an idea to get them to shut up. It can also have other potential effects such as preventing people from vomiting and in essence, kill them by having them choke on their own vomit. Additionally perhaps have Rope function as a means to tying up individuals over handcuffs, it's longer to perform yes but takes longer to break out of it once its fully completed. It could also spell for players to tie victims to objects, like a tree or lamp post so they are stuck in that location and can only move in a set area or function as a crude "leash" allowing your captured victim to follow you as a slave (or potentially a human pack mule)
  23. Basically put, what maps would you want in the Standalone? Mod Maps reintroduced as "Plus" variants? Or entirely new maps?
  24. Draco122

    Add grocery bags

I can see three uses for using Grocery Bags in DayZ. First I could see this working as a "hands only storage", you still have to carry the bag in your hands but you could carry at least a few cans of food and drink inside. Second, I can see Grocery Bags being a compenant in Crafting for various items such as using several to craft an makeshift backpack with some duct tape and rope and another being used as a crude way to catch fresh water when it rains. Thirdly, plastic shopping bags could also be used as a makeshift weapon. Wrap it around someones head and hold it there or tie it off for a cruel slow suffocation.
  25. Draco122

    Sewing kits?

I don't think increasing your health is a good idea but it could implement a line of more detailed medical procedures, for example, if you need to take a bullet out of your leg after an op you need something to sew the wound shut, why not using a sewing kit, the same could be said for non bleeding open wounds, stich them open before the wound gets worse and potentially an infection
