My suggestion is simple and to the point. I suggest the Dev team releases big fixes as they are completed on a day-to-day basis. Meaning if 3 bugs are fixed on Day x then release the hotfixes containing those fixes on Day x+1. You don't wait weeks to fix bugs. It shouldn't work like that. Bug fixes shouldn't have to come with additional content they should just come as soon as they are completed. Sure it might mean installing patches daily, but taking 5 minutes away from your times is better than taking 3 hours because you died or lost progress because of a ridiculous bug. This is not a rage thread, do not mark it as such. I haven't played in over two weeks so 1.7.2 hasn't affected me at all, but the bug reports are rampant and there is nothing being released to fix it, instead we are forced to wait for other side-projects to be completed.

This gets the award of "Not reading the f***ing posts." I'm not saying to fix bugs immediately after new build I'm saying RELEASE THE BUG FIXES AS THEY ARE FIXED. This has nothing to do with prioritizing. This has to do with releasing fixes as they fix them. Does everyone that thinks they know something about software an asshole? Let me say it again. When. they. fix. the. bugs. while. doing. their. normal. programming. and. build. releases. they. release. said. fix. This. has. nothing. to. do. with. prioritization. It. merely. has. to. do. with. releasing. the. work. they've. already. done. to. our. benefit. without. having. to. wait. for. the. next. build. One more time. Nothing. to. do. with. prioritization. Nothing. This is how it goes release > bugs found > code for next build > code a few bug fixes that would normally go in next build > release bug fixes if it doesn't mess anything more up or isn't for that build > release next build. I'm not being a silly guy demanding stuff. You obviously don't know what subforum you are in. It's called suggestions. If I were "that guy" everyone in the subforum is "that guy"

Why? Doing that makes you an ass. And stop with this carebear crap, it was stupid when it started and it's stupid now, use something else. If you want permanent destruction tell rocket to fix it. Why burn a tent anyways, you might start a wildfire, that would suck not to mention the fumes are probably bad for you. DayZ isn't about trolling it's about surviving. Your skewing the whole point of the game just to fit your sadistic ideals. Deal with it you bandit "carebear," it won't happen.

1. You are wrong, I am a programmer. Two, you are wrong, you code in segments, not the entire game all at once. Three, you still don't undrstand what I'm trying tosay. I'm trying to say that bug fixes shouldn't have to wait to be released because of new content that is being added. Also, I was saying day-to-day hypothetically. It isn't ALWAYS day to day. And of COURSE you need to test code that references other code that may cause other errors within other code. Of course you need to test it bit by bit. But the things that are already fixed or what they think is fixed should be release with the hindrance of wanting to throw in a few other special treats in with the next build. But when you get all those things ironed out, you release it, you don't wait, and then say, "oh i think this might be the right time to release it." No you release it ASAP(As soon as possible(meaning if it isn't feasible you dont release it, hence the as soon as possible part)) If the bug fixes they release cause more bugs, then good! We know what the problem is and can be fixed easier. Or would you rather have an entire game that runs off of paperclips and twigs? If they don't want to fix it within this update then they won't fix it! Not hard to figure out really, they can always fix it later and release content that causes more bugs. They don't have to fix the entire thing bit by bit. We test it for them and release the bug reports. They get the bug reports and fix them on their own time. But when they have a fix for the bugs or one they think works, they should release it as soon as they can.
-
But that's the whole point of the alpha, for us to test out the stuff they probably broke in an attempt to fix something. I'd rather get just a couple of bugs, from smaller releases, than a swarm of bugs from a larger release, it takes too long to document each bug and find out what is actually causing the problem, thus wasting everyone's time.
-
Do you really think any of these things in the sub-forum do? No. Of course not. And of course fixes take time, unlike you, who didn't take the time to read the post. It isn't like 20 bugs are fixed at the exact same time. They are fixed(or at least attempted to be fixed) on a day-to-day basis. So as soon as the fix a couple of bugs within a few days, they release a hotfix containing those fixes, despite there being more bugs to fix.

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.3 Rolling Update
chefwillis replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I know this is gonna sounds like I use the exploit but I don't. But, aren't there better things to work on atm, like bugs, zombie pathing and behavior, a way to encourage cooperation, zombies attacking through walls and moving through them, etc...? I'd much rather you fix these than alt+f4, that can wait til the next patch imo. Edit: Also can you release hotfixes for the bugs ahead of time? It's quite annoying having to deal with bugs for weeks on end just because we have to wait for other additional content. -
Do you think DayZ should be more frightening?
chefwillis replied to The Poacher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Couldn't agree more. DayZ is already an emotional trip. But it could be made into so much more with some creepier ambiance, sounds, textures, etc... It would be great to see. -
Well the problem with this is that we have to wait an entire week just to might maybe but probably not get the major bugs fixed, and a week after that again. What should be happening is minor bugs on Friday but major ASAP, I haven't played Dayz in two weeks because of the horrendous bugs that haven't been fixed, such as beer traps, terrible desync, and zombie behavior. I understand it's an alpha, but that's all the more reason to get this hotfixes out asap and keep the minor stuff & content to Fridays.

Take it away as long as you replace it with a weapon that can actually take something out from the same distance. I find it strange that the anti-material rifles are the only ones with such range. Also who ever heard of a sniper rifle that can't kill in 2 hits. One hit should take them down 100% of the time, 2 hits should always be a kill!

It's really a simply suggestion where the devs set up a sort of "content" workshop for fans to submit their own fan-made meshes, textures, and other things for possible implementation into the mod. It won't really require a program, just a dedicated sub-domain or even just a forum thread. Everyone knows DayZ is in alpha and it is moving relatively slow due to a small sized team. The devs current priority is performance and exploits so things like added content such as new meshes and textures and sounds and ambiance are on the back burner and will be for a long while. My suggestion is that they set up this workshop where fans can improve on DayZ's textures and submit things via an application system for later perusal by the dev team. -Possible submissions- Sounds: New infected noises, new ambient music, background noise such as glass breaking in the distance or metal dropping or shuffling of feet. Meshes: Static meshes for "decoration" to increase the horror aspect of the game such as limbs, damaged zombies(missing legs and such for crawlers, etc..), Textures: Bloody streets bloody windows with smeared handprints, darker(mood-wise not light) atmosphere, etc.. Animations: Obviously the zombie run animation is very uncharacteristic and Rocket hasn't gotten around to implementing his new customs, maybe you'll submit one that is better. Other stuff: Whatever the hell you created. _How to Filter Out Quality From Not_ This is quite simple each submission should require a visual or audio preview for the DayZ community to look at. Each finalized submission will be available for preview and can be voted on by the community to be viewed by the devs. Once a particular submissions reaches something like 200 votes/likes it becomes available in a dev preview section where devs can browse the popular submissions without having to filter through all the white noise submissions. What the devs marked can be marked or favorited by them. If it can be implemented the devs may use your work in the final product! =A Scarier, Fresher looking DayZ= Arma 2 is old by today's standards. The Graphics are sub-par when compared to the newer games such as Battlefield 3, MW3, Skyrim, etc... So I think this could be the opportunity the mod needs to maker a crisper and fresh final product. Please do not post comments about how this won't work or anything of that nature, it's a suggestion not a demand. I am fully aware of the alpha nature and the challenges the dev team is currently concerning themselves with. I don't ask this to be implemented immediately, I merely ask it to be considered for future use. Post your suggestions and thoughts and give beans if you like and show support! ALSO post some of your work if you have any, it would be cool to see what the community can do. If you like this suggestion post on the thread to keep it alive, just keep it germane.

Actually yeah, never really though of that. In fact you could always do both. Those who get their stuff implemented get a special colored name or a special status name thing like "DayZ Honorary Dev" or something like that. While the competition would help encourage more and more creations to keep coming out! Good idea. Remember if you like post you ideas or suggestion to keep this alive. Thanks.

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.3 Rolling Update
chefwillis replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Are tents giving anyone issues? Like losing items? -
Base Defenses ( Document included )
chefwillis replied to ZombieGrin's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Very true. But then again the tents camo is very bad. It doesn't really do a good job of being camouflaged. -
Here I'll give you some ways to fix this and some counter arguments. As for repetitiveness it would be a simple matter of making it so you can't be tranquilized again for a period of idk 30 seconds? Easy fix. As for using multiple bullets I beg to differ. The m107, AS50, Lee Enfield are all one hit kills for the most part as well as any headshot, it wouldn't be an exploit at all nor would it be cheap, just another powerful weapon. If this doesn't convince you a simple fix would be to make the guns.. dart... drop significantly more than a bullets, thus making it hard to get a hit thus wasting possibly rare ammo. It's not about getting a lot of hits, it's about landing one, just like in real life you don't stay up after getting hit with 10 mp5 round, you go down after 1 or 2, it's one shot drop would make it realistic. As for you last doubt its quite simply not an exploit. So what? Snipers don't give you a chance to fight back. Headshots don't let you fight back, grenades, Lee Enfield, bear traps, grenade launchers, rockets all don't give you a fighting chance, that's what weapons are suppose to do. If someone wants to lose their humanity in the process let them. At least they gave you even a slim chance of survival rather than getting sniped or shot by a Enfield.

I too would think this would be a good challenge, but the main problem is how you would measure the wind. You are a video game character and as such do not have nerves, I guess a wind speed meter in the hud might suffice but idk if that would fly.

chefwillis replied to resistence1993's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Bro, do you have to be a dick every time you disagree with someone? Change your attitude toward people and they'll be less likely to get into stupid arguments with you. Being cynical make you look like an ass, try to respond to someone's lack of knowledge with understanding not disgust. Anywho, I too would like to know what constitutes as a common civilian gun, I know of a few, but not many. If someone could make a short list to give me an idea that would be great. -
Right, the other stuff submitted would of course be available for perusal based on a categorical system, but the popular stuff could always be just on some sort of "hot page". The problem with having it in forums is that there is often too much white noise and it would get annoying trying to view previews of the files or getting the files themselves. I think it would be easier if you could just search for keywords(without getting drowned in irrelevant posts) and if not just browse whatever you see in a list. The problem with competition is that they are rare events that will probably offer no reward other than implementation(rewards would be costly and implementation would happen regardless of web site or forum competition, there would also be a limit on the number of victors thus ruling out potentially excellent content). The devs would have to make such a site or maybe a fan-site could be made.
-
Things like this are exactly what I'm talking about! http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/21465-new-zombie-textures/ The community can help out and the dev team only has to port in the new textures! It would be great to see custom skins, scarier textures, something to give DayZ that apocalyptic feel it sort of misses.

That wouldn't even be necessary, just put 'em at deer stands.

Not to mention the fun that could be had with this gun, tranquilize your friends to get back at them, tranquilize them and trap them in barbed wire, so much fun could be had.

chefwillis replied to resistence1993's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well maybe not an m4, but there are a lot of deadly guns out there, at least in the US. -
This is hardly relevant. How European-centric of you to think of it as American-centric. All he said was states, and you jump on the opportunity to troll. As for OP, the process of doing that is extremely difficult as far as I know and I very, very unlikely probability, though it would be great to see, it probably isn't possible.
-
I disagree with this entirely, why would a bandit spray tranquilizer when they can spray bullets? If they're going to kill you any way they would do the former and be done with it, no need for a dart gun, no need for wasted space. The gas grenades would have to be fairly rare for it to not be over exploited and have a relatively small aoe compared to smoke grenades. jsyk bullets are exploited to take stuff from innocent survivors, you can say something is exploited when they're just being used as intended. There is no difference in tranquilizers and bullets other than the non-lethality, a little bit of mercy, and it requires you to gtfo before they wake up and so you have to pick and choose from their inventory fairly quickly, and you maybe might not possibly ruin the other guys day and let them keep their side arm. This would be a survivor route to take, rather than a bandit one.
