    And while we're at stamina, I don't think you'd be able to run more and have more stamina if you even took off your shoes :D Overall weight on you is just that much but still you would probably run faster and longer with some shoes than someone who is chasing you bare foot.

    Yeah that one was epic :) and for me it was because of how everything sounds. However I think these 'demonic' sounds you mention are pretty much what we're used to in all horror type games. What makes it scarier for me at least is the sounds of these infected as deranged humans. That's what they are in the first place, afflicted by this virus thing. I think off-world and alien things surely are scary but there's nothing more scarier then seeing one of your own going mad and without control. Sort of 'the other side of their nature'. There'll be certainly some time spent to get used to everything since we've played the legacy stuff for so long, but I think they're going in the right way with it. And when we do get used to it, I'd say it will feel more dynamic and smooth for everyone.

    Stress tests Feedback

    You can't zoom while sprinting, you can zoom while walking and jogging. They also disabled a lot of features and items in this stress test version. They wrote about it in the status reports and also spoke in the stream a month or so ago.

    Dead players turn to zombies?

    I also thought about this, how cool it could look to see a player who got killed by the infected raised again but as an NPC. Behaving like the usual infected that spawn, AI controlled but with the clothes he was wearing. But the basic idea was that you as a survivor are immune to this 'rage' virus. These infected are not the classic undead or zombies.

    Yeah I think that's a real good solution. Fading in when some problems start to come up, and colored depending on the weight of situation. But how would it be represented when you are stuffed or close to vomiting? Except if some of those critical messages in the corner still remain there to warn us.
  7. Well, yeah those screen freezes, lags, whatever you want to call them. The thing is I don't know what caused them. So that was my initial idea, that it didn't have to do with the game but with the stream transfer or something. I don't know. On another note, the video in the corner with them talking is not freezing up. This is what I'm talking about for example. The first couple of minutes of the video from the official youtube: From 2:40 - 3:30

    Server Browser FPS DROPS

    Yeah, that steam overlay issue maybe could explain the problem. I didn't use chat at those moments though. This was purely looking through the list, or even just leaving the server browser menu on while I get up and go fetch something for example, so the computer was not doing anything at all. I use the steam fps counter and you could see that it suddenly just drops, together with ambiance sounds getting choppy. Sometimes it only drops to about 10-15 fps, so the menu responsiveness gets a bit slower but after I get into another game, it's okay on the server itself. What's worse, I don't know when will it happen exactly. Maybe after I change only one or a couple of servers. I guess I'm pretty superficial in explaining and testing this issue so far. I'd try to keep an eye on this in the future and experiment with steam overlay to see if that could solve the issue. I saw there are some options in steam settings to fiddle with.
  9. Yeah, you're right, that lag did happen a lot. Now you reminded me, I forgot. That was the first thing really obvious when I watched the video, I just wasn't sure if it was something regarding streaming or actually an issue in the gameplay.

  11. Totally agree with too much light inside structures. It's an issue for so long. I'm curious how would it all be solved, not only for inside but outside too, especially since we are playing on a vast open space. I guess the way shadows in the distance are rendered could prove to be a similar issue like with distance rendering and LODs. Quite a bitch that one.
  12. Well, I wouldn't believe after all of this gun sway and recoil tweaked up to the current version, they'd leave it like this for beta and final version, with barely any of it. I think it's obvious that much of what we've seen needs tweaking and it WAS stated it will be, so maybe going too deep and even personal with commenting is too much. On another side, it's a good idea to just plainly point out what you think might be wrong. @exwoll As far as the gun sounds, I think the problem is that it's not a good idea to compare them with badass movies :) except for making badass games, so maybe a balance would do. But for example, at the shooting range for practice, you'd wear ear muffs for hearing protection. Without those, you are risking hearing damage. After the first shot, your hearing would indeed be muffled for a split second at least, followed with some ear ringing probably. Like, you'd just hear the beginning of that loud shot and then barely anything, not like in the movies. Of course, being inside a room or outside when shooting matters too. Maybe our weapons expert @-Gews- could add something there :)

    Just too bad it's a plastic one. I'm sure if they added banana peel after eating it, it could prove quite a deadly trap set at proper places (police station stairs etc.) :)

    Server Browser FPS DROPS

    I had a similar problem ever since 0.62 came out and I still do. It doesn't happen when in the server browser after a fresh start of the game. This only happens when I disconnect from the first server I played on and get back to the server browser. The search gets done and all of the servers are already shown on the list with no problems at all. It doesn't matter if any the filters I use are on or off. After maybe a minute of looking through it, suddenly the FPS drops to 1-2. Anyway, once it drops, it doesn't ever get back to normal FPS at all and all the game menus are almost non-responsive. I need to push ESC to get out to the main menu and click like crazy on EXIT button to get out of the game eventually and restart.

    Now that you mention it, my favorite game with melee combat was Mount and Blade ages ago and I miss good melee combat in DayZ. I mean, it is a shooter game but you can run out of ammo, sometimes too easily, sometimes ammo can be really scarce. Since we have all those melee weapons at disposal it should definitely be enhanced from the simple click or hold.

  17. On all those accounts (except Brian lol) a lot of it will be tweaked, you're right. Well that's what they've stated and I'm sure we are not wrong if we expect it from them. Are you afraid they will turn Dayz into Quake suddenly or something? :)

    0.63 Developer Live Stream - 14th March 2018

    I liked the whole video - nothing much to comment on that one. And I think both the devs and the community could benefit with some short videos of features progress towards beta and 1.0. I guess it's only lol a matter of putting together the essential and valuable information into several minutes. A lot of people don't read the forums, obviously don't read status reports, and didn't have time to see yet alone catch the info about this particular 2+ hours live stream and I'm not sure we're aware of the power the youtube gaming streamers have there. This thing will spread easily.

    5 months till the new update? Realy?

    As far as online views for the stream, it's not really a figure to be looking at. It doesn't matter who could and could not make it at that precise time. There is that recording on youtube and twitch, and there'll be enough gaming youtubers who support Dayz and who will share the video for thousands of their subscribers who do want to see it, loving or hating the game. One of them is M1ND3R who posted it last night with several thousand views already.

    This is a very good point explained. I'd rather see the devs go in this direction and give us maybe a couple more options for that than what we have now. The "cannibal's cry" was real fun for me (still is) but it's kind of worn off now to this point, when everyone is informed and knows "what you've been doing". I think that this particular thingy was the devs' first peak at mental health system together with some fun. Some points I made earlier here and couple of posts above for example, in regards to eventual "mental health system", were regarding better performance of your character. Such as aiming, shooting, reloading and generally doing things (more precise/less time). And on the opposite side, the performance would degrade if suffering addictions or side-effects from alcohol (if they get it in) and substances. Of course, we'll see how deeper the devs can go into this. I was thinking it could enrichen the experience a bit more besides the now usual "energized/hydrated/healthy", the physical health system. I guess it's so easy to speak about this for us who've been playing it for some longer time now :) let's see what can we get in the vanilla, before the mods become available. Totally right, had the same idea like forever :) your fruit and vegetables - never forget! This is also great feature, which I think should be easy to tweak with wearability and that it should just need proper testing on experimental and stable servers. Additionally, the military boots, if best at everything, should be also generating different noise or just more noise like the hiking shoes you mentioned there. In general, definitely the more gear on you, the more noise should be generated.
  22. Yeah, I'm generally for some addition in this field. I dunno about this hypothetic tracking system you mentioned come to think about it. It could all be too much of a strain on server systems, and also tracking time spent speaking would again be open to misuse. But especially erratic mouse movement. We'll see if it would make sense at all with the new player controller :D Books however, well that's kind of somewhere in between. You'd be able to exploit it but you'd have to find them first (if they become rare items). Now I don't want to be negative all the time with this :D so maybe something with gestures could be done. Maybe when you approach to a player, similar to 'check pulse' there could be an option like 'handshake' which could be one of positive influences in this mental health system. A side thought: I'd try something with this name display when you 'check pulse' on the player. I'd remove the other player's name from these messages totally until this 'handshake' was done. This is just all too more interesting when you can't know who you are dealing with. Just someone who presents themselves as they want, through chat or VOIP, as it is in real life. Unless you can positively identify them visually, but we'd need more of character visual customization options for that.

Well that's a long way :) I did say 'an average character' though :) But I think it's just that the more you want to go deeper with details, the more difficult it gets to achieve, and then even more details come up to cover. But, we're just talking anyway, so here's a couple of more against getting too deep into systems like this mental health system in the Dayz. I don't want to cover positives much here since it's obvious. So you reach the rock bottom and then what? Your character starts panicking and shooting out of control? Or does he get so hopeless and depressed that he shoots himself? That would remind me of Dark corners of the Earth ;) That was amazing and horrifying back then. But that might have worked well in single-player. Again, I think that's too much for this kind of an MMO approach where there's so much going on at moments so much to manage and to search for. Some players are always looking to interact with others anyway, and some are avoiding players always. Forcing you to interact with others in game to keep/raise your character's mental health is open to misuse. Misuse should always be considered whenever thinking about game features. Because in this case, when familiar with the system, everyone would make sure to flap their gums and flood the VOIP prior to and while shooting another player. But then there should be distinctions which I don't know how a game could handle without a damn good AI. Distinction because, a positive interaction would be with positive result on your mental health obviously, what you've said. But there is negative interaction too, the ones that bring small or massive stress to you. Meaning turning away, mocking, molesting and/or robbing someone, leaving them with nothing. Or much likely dead. Even making them kill themselves. There's infinite stress coming your way with just getting shot at, or just one shot narrowly missing you too. The way some people play with others sometimes makes me more worried of those players' mental health, not their characters' :D Suffering addictions and their drawbacks on the other hand sounds fun to me ;) For example making you less precise and slow with actions, or getting less energy from food. Healing it could happen and should take time, but could also bring some small permanent quirk to the character. The search for alcohol and particular substances to keep you steady would bring even more adventures.
