[Terrain addition] Artillery/Airstrike/Gunship/Naval bombardment craters
cirkular replied to RaphaelDeFusco's topic in Suggestions
Fine thinking there both @RaphaelDeFusco and @Dancing.Russian.Man... But I like the idea of having one area like that. It would be unique. There's already that hole filled up with infected corpses somewhere in the north (can't remember - around Kamensk?) so things there must have gotten really scary. There's a couple of towns bigger and smaller near both NW airfield (Vybor) and Tisy base (Novaya Petrovka). Also Kamensk with Severograd. So maybe a few bigger attacks could have happened following and pushing the military towards back north - north west into those bases. Those desperate military forces that eventually got caught up in the base, decided to use whatever they got finally, like those tanks or some artillery and mortars, just before bailing towards Tisy and the hell out of Chernarus. Maybe that open field by the road separating NW airfield and Vybor and/or Kabanino. No loot to be destroyed there :) -
I used space tap for raise weapon or lower weapon from the beginning, but some time ago when .62 came out, I changed that to hold space for holding raised weapon and releasing space would lower the weapon. Made much more sense with running and gunning. Now, with these changes, I just made one right mouse click to get into ADS, click again to get out of it. Holding left CTRL would hold breath for that precision far shot. It's not really a piano-stretch since I wouldn't be moving much in that moment anyway.

Although things like saturation and brightness levels are surely a matter of taste and are prone to changes in the development stages, I don't see much problem with colors in the game really. I don't like too much of those, but I don't want to watch a gray horror movie either. It's like having a sticker on your screen saying that this is a horror movie you're watching. The real world indeed is a colorful place. Except when it's raining. That's why the game is not set in England. And sometimes it can feel like a really strange place to be in, too. You can live in a beautiful colorful little village surrounded by hills, valleys, forests and streams yet your first door neighbors or even your own family can make your life miserable. Let alone one virus. For me, this is what made a certain contrast into the whole Dayz world. A colorful looking world with some really grim and desperate situations our characters get in. The more contrast, the more maddening. Now, keep in mind that with many of us having played these early access versions for years now, getting to learn and use so much of the game mechanics... we don't feel that much impressed or surprised anymore. Maybe take a break? As far as crosshair, sway, recoil aiming and ADS stuff, or to cut it short: "this game will become PUBG arcadey and BI is going for the $$$"... I wouldn't like that either, and it's why I never got into H1Z1:KotK and PUBG in the first place. But I think that it's their business decision what they will do with it finally. It's okay on our end to state our opinions what we like and what we don't like in a developing game, but without speculations which can be really hurting and insulting. Let your opinions be heard on the forums, reddit etc and we'll see from there which side prevails. Maybe millions of players will run to it then, which is $$$ of course, or maybe it will be Dayz's doom and the whole thing would get watered down in the mix with the others. There's too much wish from us users to control a direction of a product as if we made some kind of a major investment in it and became shareholders. And not someone who paid half a price for an early access game like this, that we still played for years, undoubtedly had fun, created ziggabytes of video content from etc. With Brian Hicks also leaving couple of years after Dean Hall, and trying to get into some new project back home, I can't really tell what's wrong with that. I don't really want to read between the lines. So I don't see a point in guessing and predicting what that means for Dayz. There's plenty of people that just left or sold their years-successful businesses, bands, game franchises, projects which went on going. But they could finally do something else in their life, elsewhere.

Great to see good and detailed answers here to some of the questions :) From thoughts on future game mechanics and stress tests experience, to Brian taking a back seat. Anyway...

Yeah, that's what I thought when I saw this about with shoes / without shoes. Some positive or negative values, although it does make it even more complex for a first person shooter, it's not more then what RPGs have. Meaning items that increase some stats or add bonuses for your character. I like this way of translating it into a game like Dayz. Also sounds from running in sneakers as opposed to running in working/military boots. I'll be very happy if any of these other fine details make it into the game. But don't forget that characters did originally spawn without any gear, just basic clothing. This is when you should get that full stamina, which is a small bonus actually if you go barehanded against someone who is armed :D Also I think having an axe on your back, especially anything in your hands while sprinting should slow you down. Another thing is to have a pistol held in a pocket, or just carried in a backpack, as opposed to carrying your gun in a gun holster. There should be some fine differences there.
-
And while we're at stamina, I don't think you'd be able to run more and have more stamina if you even took off your shoes :D Overall weight on you is just that much but still you would probably run faster and longer with some shoes than someone who is chasing you bare foot.

Yeah that one was epic :) and for me it was because of how everything sounds. However I think these 'demonic' sounds you mention are pretty much what we're used to in all horror type games. What makes it scarier for me at least is the sounds of these infected as deranged humans. That's what they are in the first place, afflicted by this virus thing. I think off-world and alien things surely are scary but there's nothing more scarier then seeing one of your own going mad and without control. Sort of 'the other side of their nature'. There'll be certainly some time spent to get used to everything since we've played the legacy stuff for so long, but I think they're going in the right way with it. And when we do get used to it, I'd say it will feel more dynamic and smooth for everyone.

You can't zoom while sprinting, you can zoom while walking and jogging. They also disabled a lot of features and items in this stress test version. They wrote about it in the status reports and also spoke in the stream a month or so ago.
-
I do, and I also think we all do :D we'll see
-
I also thought about this, how cool it could look to see a player who got killed by the infected raised again but as an NPC. Behaving like the usual infected that spawn, AI controlled but with the clothes he was wearing. But the basic idea was that you as a survivor are immune to this 'rage' virus. These infected are not the classic undead or zombies.
-
Yeah I think that's a real good solution. Fading in when some problems start to come up, and colored depending on the weight of situation. But how would it be represented when you are stuffed or close to vomiting? Except if some of those critical messages in the corner still remain there to warn us.

Some questions to the devs regarding the content shown in the stream
cirkular replied to exwoll's topic in General Discussion
Well, yeah those screen freezes, lags, whatever you want to call them. The thing is I don't know what caused them. So that was my initial idea, that it didn't have to do with the game but with the stream transfer or something. I don't know. On another note, the video in the corner with them talking is not freezing up. This is what I'm talking about for example. The first couple of minutes of the video from the official youtube: From 2:40 - 3:30 -
Yeah, that steam overlay issue maybe could explain the problem. I didn't use chat at those moments though. This was purely looking through the list, or even just leaving the server browser menu on while I get up and go fetch something for example, so the computer was not doing anything at all. I use the steam fps counter and you could see that it suddenly just drops, together with ambiance sounds getting choppy. Sometimes it only drops to about 10-15 fps, so the menu responsiveness gets a bit slower but after I get into another game, it's okay on the server itself. What's worse, I don't know when will it happen exactly. Maybe after I change only one or a couple of servers. I guess I'm pretty superficial in explaining and testing this issue so far. I'd try to keep an eye on this in the future and experiment with steam overlay to see if that could solve the issue. I saw there are some options in steam settings to fiddle with.

Yeah, you're right, that lag did happen a lot. Now you reminded me, I forgot. That was the first thing really obvious when I watched the video, I just wasn't sure if it was something regarding streaming or actually an issue in the gameplay. -
Yeah, why not? I hope there'll be more interest and time for tweaking the UI design over the next beta period.

Lighting of players vs environment is an issue
cirkular replied to Buakaw's topic in General Discussion
Totally agree with too much light inside structures. It's an issue for so long. I'm curious how would it all be solved, not only for inside but outside too, especially since we are playing on a vast open space. I guess the way shadows in the distance are rendered could prove to be a similar issue like with distance rendering and LODs. Quite a bitch that one. -
Some questions to the devs regarding the content shown in the stream

Well, I wouldn't believe after all of this gun sway and recoil tweaked up to the current version, they'd leave it like this for beta and final version, with barely any of it. I think it's obvious that much of what we've seen needs tweaking and it WAS stated it will be, so maybe going too deep and even personal with commenting is too much. On another side, it's a good idea to just plainly point out what you think might be wrong. @exwoll As far as the gun sounds, I think the problem is that it's not a good idea to compare them with badass movies :) except for making badass games, so maybe a balance would do. But for example, at the shooting range for practice, you'd wear ear muffs for hearing protection. Without those, you are risking hearing damage. After the first shot, your hearing would indeed be muffled for a split second at least, followed with some ear ringing probably. Like, you'd just hear the beginning of that loud shot and then barely anything, not like in the movies. Of course, being inside a room or outside when shooting matters too. Maybe our weapons expert @-Gews- could add something there :) -
0.63 Developer Live Stream - 14th March 2018

Just too bad it's a plastic one. I'm sure if they added banana peel after eating it, it could prove quite a deadly trap set at proper places (police station stairs etc.) :) -
I had a similar problem ever since 0.62 came out and I still do. It doesn't happen when in the server browser after a fresh start of the game. This only happens when I disconnect from the first server I played on and get back to the server browser. The search gets done and all of the servers are already shown on the list with no problems at all. It doesn't matter if any the filters I use are on or off. After maybe a minute of looking through it, suddenly the FPS drops to 1-2. Anyway, once it drops, it doesn't ever get back to normal FPS at all and all the game menus are almost non-responsive. I need to push ESC to get out to the main menu and click like crazy on EXIT button to get out of the game eventually and restart.

Now that you mention it, my favorite game with melee combat was Mount and Blade ages ago and I miss good melee combat in DayZ. I mean, it is a shooter game but you can run out of ammo, sometimes too easily, sometimes ammo can be really scarce. Since we have all those melee weapons at disposal it should definitely be enhanced from the simple click or hold. -
Well you don't show us the classic firefights :P or what happens after you get someone's gear. Why don't you call the series 'The Stickman'? ... or Stickmad instead of Nomad lol

Some questions to the devs regarding the content shown in the stream
cirkular replied to exwoll's topic in General Discussion
On all those accounts (except Brian lol) a lot of it will be tweaked, you're right. Well that's what they've stated and I'm sure we are not wrong if we expect it from them. Are you afraid they will turn Dayz into Quake suddenly or something? :) -
0.63 Developer Live Stream - 14th March 2018
cirkular replied to Baty Alquawen's topic in News & Announcements
I liked the whole video - nothing much to comment on that one. And I think both the devs and the community could benefit with some short videos of features progress towards beta and 1.0. I guess it's only lol a matter of putting together the essential and valuable information into several minutes. A lot of people don't read the forums, obviously don't read status reports, and didn't have time to see yet alone catch the info about this particular 2+ hours live stream and I'm not sure we're aware of the power the youtube gaming streamers have there. This thing will spread easily. -
As far as online views for the stream, it's not really a figure to be looking at. It doesn't matter who could and could not make it at that precise time. There is that recording on youtube and twitch, and there'll be enough gaming youtubers who support Dayz and who will share the video for thousands of their subscribers who do want to see it, loving or hating the game. One of them is M1ND3R who posted it last night with several thousand views already.
