    .63 ETA ?

Well, I enjoy what I have from this. For this kind of money, for early access, I already had a great deal of gameplay honestly. And that's for a game that's without any clear story content. Just kill the expectations and the wait. I'm not worried about the player base and size. They'll come back. More new players will show up. It's a good shooter with a good game idea for a change. Still, you don't get all these glitches in early access with Bethesda titles, do you. You get it AFTER the final release :D But seriously, anyone burned out, or in doubt of Dayz's success compared to other released or upcoming titles or with only disappointments so far: make a break, come back later. Play those games. Play other games. That's how I did it since spring. And lately I'm forced to, because of my graphics card's sudden death. So, this week, I'll be mostly posting stuff on these forums :D

    Zombies

Yeah, man it is what it is now in development. This is not a done game, this is early access, which means it's expected to have broken areas that are to be fixed until final release. Games are broken even when fully released so no point to get any more angrier at Dayz. Takes time because basically first they switched from an old engine to this new one but with an old player controller. They were building the new one for the next 0.63 beta update, parallel to these last couple of updates. Now we have just some kind of a working combination of players and zombies movement, which is why it seems we have zombies with funny/frustrating super abilities. Limited demo edition of the new player controller and beta was shown at the Gamescom in Cologne couple of months ago. At least they don't have to deal with making content, stories and quests, which is up to us players. Plus, it will be moddable.
  3. Hey, welcome to the forums. The character is not showing for no one and it's like that for some time now. We still don't know when will they release the beta 0.63. Also, I had a strange problem with loot back in .58 or .59 version and with updates. Maybe your game installation is broken now. If it's not a big problem for you, try reinstalling the game completely, or verify game content through Steam options if you didn't already.

    Almost done with this game

Hey, @onedog, just wanted to say to you and other like minded players that might be reading your post and agreeing (which is not the first time): don't have yourself put off this great game just because of other people's motives and these trigger happy ways that they play. Long time ago I was (a lot of us were) in the same way thinking while straight KoS-ed or being mugged, shot, stabbed and/or killed with minimal or some extensive interaction, but then after I finished playing, I gave it a thought and saw that we all need some role-play mentality here indeed to understand this. It doesn't have to be so deep but it comes to this: A lot of things and opportunities that we have in civilized environments just don't count anymore, people are not the same anymore. Besides bugs and flaws in this alpha stage of the game, what can kill the game experience for you is the lousy player interaction. But that's the player's job, not the game's job. There are no NPCs to interact with, waiting for you to push a button to make them talk to you. Still, do you think, right now, getting out into the street at night, that there is absolutely no chance that you'll (never) see this guy mugging you? What makes things even more difficult, Dayz doesn't have yet a clear goal for a player, like in other games, a quest if you will. Maybe it shouldn't and doesn't need one. An average character could think: will the military eventually come in and clear the area, or will the government come up with a plan of evacuation at some point, and will there ever be cure for this disease, or is crime really a crime anymore, and just when will all this end? You don't know, you're stuck in this situation. All that matters is that you're up for some hard times and need to survive like this until who knows when. And you get to enjoy some pretty Chernarus landscape. So, thinking like this, if this was a real situation and not a game, you would pretty much have to be always really wary of the environment and the others, wouldn't you? In case you successfully get by that horrible idea of hanging yourself or throwing yourself off the balcony immediately, you would want to look for cover as soon as you encounter someone before ANY interaction. Or just make sure you're the first to draw, like Wild west you know? You need to have ways of protecting yourself by all means necessary. Hell, as soon as you login, this is where your perception should kick in 24/7. Now for these players who decide to play like classic raiders, it's pretty much easy. It's the easy way, although they're facing the same thing as you are but this is how they play it. In this game it's not just about you anymore. And having them talking shit to you (if you're lucky) before they shoot, is perfect for this game. And realistic too. I'm guessing, tell me if I'm wrong and please forgive me, but this is your every day get out of comfy bed after a good night sleep mentality that you are bringing into this game? Want to be friendly like in those youtube videos, share stuff, not get eaten by wolves, get through the areas with the infected, through hunger and sickness more easily? That's ok, just put it a little lower in your priorities list. Like, closer to the bottom. And it shouldn't be a long list, too. And guess what, their list is even shorter. If you get a slight hint of a suspicion, shoot first. Or run. It takes a lot of time to get some of that good looking youtube material :D If you didn't already, watch this movie, The Road, based on a novel. It's pretty grim, depending on what you've seen so far. Now, as far as finding other players to tag along with, it will take more or less time. I'm an older gamer, I like some games here and there. After some time playing alone, I made a post on one forum and got into this group of older gamers 30+ and 40+. You can try and identify the player that's somewhere near and write him a chat message through Steam list of players on the server. And yes, you can personal message a forum member here. You'd feel much safer with a buddy or buddies in Chernarus. Of course, it is much more rewarding if you bump into someone which eventually becomes your partner in this. Ages ago, during one of the darkest nights, fresh in Chernaya Polana, which was pretty busy and echoing with gunshots, I went to hide in this garage. There was another guy already, crouched and hiding, looking at the streets. I started whispering (hey! ksss ksss!), he played along :D and we started talking, still whispering, about how to quick loot for essentials and get the hell out of that place unnoticed, which we eventually did. On a public server I found one German guy rummaging through this wrecked car, he started talking first. He played on his own too. We got through pretty much the whole map that day although his English is so bad. And he is an all PVP and KoS guy which surprised me, quick to shoot and loot. That's how he usually plays. Found one similar aged Brit in a tree just logging on to the server, which means easy prey for me, and I brought him too to this older gamers crew whenever he wanted to join in. Also, while pretty much a fresh spawn, and waiting for one buddy to come along, this Russian guy came running at me with a shovel although I clearly had nothing of interest on me. Instead of punching him or poking his eyes with a sharpened stick, I managed to persuade him to stop the nonsense and we talked a bit. My buddy showed up armed to the teeth but we still talked. Eventually he decided to move on towards some other place on the map. I must say Russian nor English are not my native languages, and most of my encounters ended eventually without time to becoming friends on Steam, so all this pretty much makes me happy to remember all these small moments. It's just it might take hours, and also depends in what situation and mood you catch these other players. Are they scared and caught by surprise? Do YOU look and sound scared and behave like a nice little prey for them? So, in the end, although this is still a game, use it. Explore your good side, or evil side if you want. Or both :D Play it however you want, just remember if you choose one side, the other will surely be out there to get you.

DayZ .62 And You! (A review of 62 from a bandit perspective)

Nah, for sure I knew what you meant there in the first place :) I was just joking Anyway, keep the videos coming. It's another cool DayZ adventures channel

DayZ .62 And You! (A review of 62 from a bandit perspective)

A fine video. I think we can all say pretty much the same about distance rendering and camouflage, "The Gamma Nights" and game crashes. Night time survival is still pretty much pointless in my opinion. And yeah, it's cool to have ambient sounds mask a bit of the sounds you make around other people. Of course, all those affect general gameplay, not just banditry :D Oddly enough, I haven't had a single game crash since 0.62 hit stable on my couple of years old rig.

    How old are you?

Talking about age, 38 caliber here :) With all the things that went on, had a couple of years break but generally in gaming since 1985. DayZ really got my attention, since I consider it still an unconventional game. I play it either alone or with a small group of 30-40 year old EU players that I joined two years ago.
  9. I'm not sure either :D or yeah, why not Beretta carbine? Hell, we have old weapons like P1 and Mosin, still in game. I understand those are kind of legendary also. But, whatever developers think is suitable in DayZ world. I was just thinking... Since we have a .357 magnum and a repeater, for example, I miss something like a "popular" civilian carbine that can use that 9x19 mm ammo and (I think) CR 75 pistol mags we already have in game. And, since we have this availability thing for items in game, it doesn't have to be a too common find. Just more of a thing for earllier stages of the game if you will. I hope you get my point.
  10. Hah, the pipe gun! That's cool there. Speaking of Marlin earlier in the topic, how about Marlin camp 9 rifle? This variant I tried uses 9x19 mm Parabellum ammo and I think it was a 10 round mag. Basicaly, good thing is you can use stuff from pistols of the same caliber like CZ 99 (or CR75, Glock and Red9 in game). You can attach optics on it and I tried that also. It was a red dot one, which was cool. Heard that some of the USA and Canada police officers had it as an in-car weapon of choice because of its smaller size.

    Let's talk about new animations

Yeah! But without crosshair then, since you're not actually aiming down the sights.

    Let's talk about new animations

Throwing animation, but this is more of a feature I guess. Honestly, I'd like to throw stuff at players sometimes. :D

    View backpack contents

Yes, I'm definitely for this in DayZ. Thing is, thinking as a developer who want to sell the game, some people who want to have a simple, pure fun experience, could just leave the game. That's why I think we need a separation of options for 'regular' and 'hardcore' servers. These two game modes could mean something then. Like mentioned in this thread about what 'regular' and 'hardcore' means. Things like this backpack suggestion here should be only in hardcore game mode. Or you could have a series of *check options like these when starting your own server. Like when you choose between 1st/3rd person or 1st person only.

    Unconsciousness Overhaul

Sure! I like all the ideas here. I've been thinking about some of these also. I hope they are not so hard to implement.
