    BI Needs to Postpone 1.0

    I agree that they should postpone the 1.0 release. People have been coming to different "big" updates in the past to check the state of the game, and each time they saw a game that's still full of bugs and with lots of prototype, glitchy and unfinished features. They were disappointed and put the game aside in order to wait some more. The release of 1.0 and end of Early Access is the biggest update that the game will ever have marketing wise, and a way of the devs of saying "EVERYONE LISTEN COME BACK TO OUR GAME! IT'S GOOD NOW". That will be the final and last cry of the devs to attract a big playerbase to the game, and it will succeed or fail. And with the current state of the game we can see that it's leaning more towards fail. You have to keep in mind that majority of the potential playerbase for this game doesn't browse the forums and doesn't follow the status reports. The people who do are minority. Most won't care about what's after 1.0, or that it's just temporary. To them the only thing they see is "1.0 FULL RELEASE" which means they expect to get a somewhat finished product that's much better than what they experienced before. They will come back to the game, see that it's still full of bugs just like they saw when they were coming back to a .50 or .60 etc update during alpha, except now lots of content is removed too, like majority of guns. Then they will leave for good. You can have a playerbase consisting only of the dedicated people who follow every update on the forums and are willing to put up with the state of 1.0 knowing that stuff will be fixed later, but that playerbase is a minority. You can see that now by how many players are still playing or even caring about this game. It's dead. The only way for the game to attract and keep a big playerbase is to smack them on the face with something really great when they check the 1.0 version of the game when it comes out. And needless to say this won't happen with the current state of the game because of how many bugs and missing content there is. Remember there is still a very big group of people out there who haven't touched DayZ for years but will check it out once they see that it's come out of Early Access and is 1.0. They've been planning on doing that for years. So if this 1.0 update is just as disappointing then that will be the end. They won't ever come back to DayZ, no matter what the devs do in 1.05 or 1.10.

    The devs bit more than they could chew, In my opinion they did a mistake by trying to work on too many different features at once. They should just focus on one thing and put all the effort and time into perfecting it, then move to another feature. They have added lots of features but none of them are polished enough. Why work on throwing items, base building and hit zones when the most important core features are still not finished from 2013.
  5. Many people are complaining about little canned food spawning on the map but that's a good thing cause that's how it's supposed to be. Canned food or water should be rare. Instead fix the hunger and thirst system and allow us to go for much longer periods of time without food or water. If food or water is rare then it can become a trading currency. No one ever gave a shit about food or water as a trading currency because it was so common and easy to get. items like canned food, cereal, bottled water etc should be VERY rare. Getting food through crafting and survival-mechanics should be encouraged. Hunger and thirst should be fixed so that we can go much longer without food or water
  6. You should stop focusing on words like "beta", "alpha", or "finished" and just look at the time. It's been 6 years in development and zombies are still a broken mess. I don't care if it's beta, alpha, delta or whatever you want to call it. Look at the time. After 20 years if the game is still in beta and zombies still won't be fixed people will defend it cause it's beta and "it's expected". And that's true, in beta bugs are expected, unfinished content is expected, but not when it's been "worked on" for 6 years and still barely functions while also being the single most important part of the game. It should never take 6 years to create proper zombies in any game, on any engine. If it does then there are only three possibilities: 1. the engine is so difficult to work with that it takes this long. 2. the devs are inexperienced 3. the devs don't care or aren't putting enough time into it. If you have a good engine and enough skilled people coding then it would never take 6 years to fix zombies. (keep in mind I say finished but the current zombies are far from being finished even after 6 years).

    Yeah because 0.62 doesn't have the same bugs and the same broken mechanics/problems that the game always had. I'm not even going to list all the things that are still as broken as they were since the beginning of the early access, we've already heard that hundreds of times. To someone who comes back to 0.62 after having a break for years and sees the state of the game there is an understandable reason to complain. You can't expect everyone to follow every single status report. Most of the people who bought DayZ never even came to the forums once. They bought the game, they saw it was broken so they gave it time (many years), they came back, saw that it has the same problems and is just as glitchy and choppy as it was back then, so they complain. Your logic to me is like someone comes to a restaurant, gets a bad meal so they give it a negative review, but your defense is "but our chef said there will be big improvements soon and gave us pictures of his upcoming new dishes so it's ok". That's great but why should the customer give a shit? He rates what he got at that time. And his review should be taken into consideration. Yes we've all heard the complaints hundreds of times and we KNOW what is wrong with DayZ and we know what needs to be fixed, but that doesn't mean that people shouldn't have the right to continue complaining about it. And don't pretend like there is no reason to complain, that's just being blinded. The development of the game is very slow and we get very few updates, last update took 8 months just to get it on the stress test if I remember correctly. Do I have a problem with it? No, I can patiently wait years more because I trust the devs and believe it will be a good game. Is it a valid reason to complain for other people? Yes. The amount of negative reviews and complaints is what is expected when you do an early access on a game with an engine that makes it painfully difficult to add new stuff and improvements, and then decide to rework the engine. The devs knew it will take a long ass time, and that this will cause many negative reviews. You knew what you were getting into. You can't take years to fix basic features like climbing ladders or clipping through doors, and expect people not to complain.

    People complaining about people complaining is a problem too. Reviews and feedback exist for a reason. If someone paid for something and is not happy with it they have the right to complain as much as they want. If there is a lot of people complaining about something it's a reminder to the devs that this problem exists and needs to be addressed. So what if there's been lots of people complaining about the same thing? Everyone can complain about what they don't like, and if there's 100 people complaining about the same thing then that means it's a big issue - and you should not tell them to stop complaining just because "it's already been complained about in the past". And these aren't even dumb or trollish complaints. I am patient with the devs and the game and I have no problem waiting for them to finish the game, but I'm not blinded like some people here. There is A LOT to complain about, and it's understandable why a lot of people complain and say the game is dead etc. You obviously have some people whose complaints are done without any research, but those aren't any less valuable. Let's say someone pays for the game, plays it, sees how broken and unplayable it is, then leaves the game for 3-4 years, doesn't keep track of any of the status reports and the dev updates, just forgets about this game. Then comes back after 4 years to see that it's still a broken mess just like it was 4 years ago. What do they do? They complain about it and it's understandable. Even though they haven't done any research on the current state of the game and what the devs have to say, their complaint is valid and it shows what the people who aren't regularly following the forums think about the game. Complaining should not be discouraged. If you do that's basically dictatorship. With that being said, what I'm disappointed in with the devs is that they can't even make a tiny update to fix the broken hunger and thirst system in 0.63. It currently makes the game not enjoyable because you die from starvation and hunger WAY too fast and a lot of people complained about it saying that it's unplayable because of this one small thing. How much time would it take to make this fix? 5 minutes? It's just a matter of changing some number values. The update would be like 1mb but it would allow us to actually enjoy the game because we wouldn't have to eat and drink every 5 minutes. But instead we will have to wait months until another update just so this tiny thing gets fixed. This isn't the first time this is happening, there's been plenty of tiny things that made the game unplayable that could be fixed in literally 5 minutes with a tiny update, but they apparently can't take 5 minutes out of their super busy 8 months to make a tiny update to fix a tiny issue that single handedly ruins the game.

    What's stopping the devs from making a 1mb update which slows down hunger and thirst? Why isn't it done yet? All it takes is adjusting some numbers and that's it. This is a thing that can be fixed instantly and with no effort and yet it has a huge negative impact on the game

  12. Canned food and other "house" food definitely needs to be more rare, even to the point where people will start trading food for other items.
  13. It's not the melee system, it's the desync Remove the desync (which will probably never happen anyway) and melee will be good.

    So this morning while taking a shit I thought of a cool idea, what if we had a mountain that's twice THRICE as big as the Skyrim mountain. At the right time of the day when you go high enough you won't even see anything below you because everything below will be covered in fog. Somewhere near the top is a heli pad that could spawn heli parts, On the top on the mountain is an astronomical observatory that also spawns some cool items and weapons, and the zombies are astronomers There could also be a devastated military camp of those who tried to settle there after the apocalypse but failed.

    I have a Winchester and a hunting scope, I can't see zeroing in the top right corner because it's covered in a black square Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Music in DayZ - Short tracks

    I've suggested this years ago but I'll suggest it again to see opinions of new people. The music in Dayz Mod was the biggest contributor to the gloomy and threatening atmosphere. I'm not suggesting to put the entire music from the mod into the standalone, but short and very "gameplay friendly" tracks. This would improve the atmosphere by A LOT. And to give you an idea of what kind of "short tracks" I'm talking about, here's the DayZ Mod soundtrack Track playing at 2:44 and 3:02 (Suspense 7 and 8) Could be played upon spawning into the game for the first time with a new character. Track playing at 6:08 (Suspense 18) Could be played at random times during the game Track played at 19:50 (Suspense 29) Could be played after you die during the death screen, Those are just examples And BTW, Music in DayZ (Mod in particular) DID NOT make it impossible to hear your surroundings, even with loud and heavy music playing you could still hear footsteps, gunshots, zombies etc. So with these short and light tracks there should be absolutely no problem.

    DayZ Ideas to reduce KOS

    The main idea is that they will NEED to work with other people to survive. Running around killing everybody with axe will get them nowhere because they will die to the big amount of zombies or die from starvation (in order to get food they will have to get into cities/villages = need teamwork) If they want to just run around with axes and die in 5 minutes and repeat forever than let them do that but I'm sure majority of players have higher ambitions than than We're also not removing KoS, because it will ALWAYS be there no matter what, and running around fighting with brooms will also always be there, but we're just reducing it.

    I'm pretty sure that wouldn't reduce KoS in any way. The main core problem of KoS is that there is nothing else to do in the game besides Roleplaying. After someone gets fully geared and has the best weapons in the game, KoS is the only thing to do So, using simple logic, to reduce KoS, we need to make getting geared up and the game itself a lot harder. Fresh spawn -> End Game -> KoS So we need to make it harder to go from fresh spawn to end game Fresh spawn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> End Game -> KoS A good start would be reducing the ammount of ammo spawning by A LOT. So that people have 3 bullets for their mosin and that's considered a lot. Thay way when they see someone, they will think twice. "Is it worth wasting one of my precious bullets to kill that guy when there's a chance that he will have no ammo or anything usefull on him and I will just waste my bullets" ? and btw if this game ever gets to that state we will have to brace ourselves for the countless crying threads "omg why theres no ammo i cant find shit in this game devs pls do something !!!11" But we will have to get through that stage and decide if we want to do a hard game or not Now the other problem with this is "well if the ammo is going to be so rare then do you expect us to just use the shitty melee combat all the time"? that's why 1) Melee combat should be better and more fun, it's a zombie game after all. I want a melee combat that actually has something to do with skill rather than a lottery. Right now the melee combat is "whoever is lucky enough to hit the other guy in his past de-sync state". I """"believe"""" that with the engine being reworked they can improve the melee system maybe in a year. 2)Ammo for shitty weapons like the makarov should me easier to find 3) If everybody knows that ammo is a rarity, you can easily point an empty gun at someone and pretend you have ammo. It will make for another fun element in the gameplay. Another big thing is obviously the amount of zombies. This will single handedly reduce KoS, not in the wilderness but in the cities. If you're hidden in grass in the middle of a big city with 100 zombies around you and you see another guy crawling towards you, you're not gonna shoot him. You're going to talk to him and try to be friends with him because you know that the moment you release a bullet from your weapon you're as good as dead. The ruined clothes/items is a good idea but not now, because simply no one cares. If the guy you just killed has ruined everything you don't care because you can find everything that he had on him in 5 minutes because it's that easy. If everything becomes rare then this concept will become a thing because what's the point of wasting ammo just to "loot" people if their gear will be ruined. Shooting people will be used in self-defense more often. Right now this game is far from "hardcore survival" like it's supposed to be, I bet something like 99% of the today's players don't play the game to experience "hardcore survival" but for the shooting, since it's an Arma game it has a fun shooting engine, and the rest are people who make creative videos for their youtube channel.
